Hiya,
So I bought one on eBay and I THINK it's real - but I want to be sure. Is there any easy way of telling? The main reason's I'm worried are the few things that irked me slightly - 1: it's apparently from 'Singtel', and had a 'My Singtel' bloatware app - which is annoying either way. 2: The Google search bar seems to have a slightly different font - but that could be because it's an international version or something? There's also a spelling mistake in the 'battery info' pane on the settings - but again, I'm wondering if this is just because of where the phone's from. EIther way, that's very annoying, now that I've seen it - do you think Samsung would release a patch or is this Singtel version going to rely on Singtel to send updates (ie, I won't get them from Samsung OTA until Singtel have 'cleared' them?).
FYI I can compare it to my definitely real (well, should be!) O2 store bought S6.

CPU-Z is saying its a 'Samsung Exynos processor' Octa, 7420. 2.10 Ghz
Phone Info says the Model is SM-G928I, device type zenlte, made in Vietnam
Geekbench 3 gives it Multi core of 5225
Antutu gives it 69145
So it seems legit... that spelling mistake in settings is odd though???
As long as it's legit I plan on flashing a rom asap anyway, so I guess it's 'nationality' doesn't matter at that point, right?
When I contacted the seller the response was this:
'Usually for new release products we will take from around the world the ensure we have enough quantity to satisfy demand, and for our customers to get the latest products. therefore in this case some were collected from Singapore hence the singtel. for this we believe the matter is small because now a day most devices comes with 32gb or above, therefore even the network provider provides some preinstalled apps our customers will still have many space to play with. moreover a mobile requires network operators so there is some such apps anyway
with the box being opened, it is culture we found best to do, especially for newly released items, you will never know if the manufacturer have accidentally manufactured a faulty product to come the release date, so we open the box to ensure basic functions, calls, network connections etc are functional before giving it to you to avoid returns because the manufacturer produced a faulty product
lastly the information spell error, we really did not know. However upon your question, we checked our stock, samsung and googled, we found that it is a common problem amongst the first batch of release. Samsung Singapore informed us that they realised this silly issue and will correct this upon the next firmware update. '
-so does this mean (without flashing) I'm dependant on Samsung Singapore, even though I'm in the UK? Would that slow down updates/ cause me issues do you think?
Thanks

You can always flash some other stock firmware with Odin, your phone supports all stock firmwares from all mobile operators from Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, so pick one, they can't all have that spelling error.

Thanks for the response! Just a question (or three :S)
Does flashing official firmware in this way trip knox?
How do you know which regions firmware my phone supports?
Will it inhibit me at all that it's not a European model?
And if I flash an Australian one, for example, will it cause me signal worries or anything? Thanks

No, flashing firmware with Odin will not trip Knox.
I know because "I" model is for those regions, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand,
Here you can find all firmwares supported by your model:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G928I/
I presume that you don't have any signal problems with Singaporean firmware, so i don't think you'll have any problems with any other firmware from that region, since they all are using the same modem.

Thanks so much! Last question (promise!) Is there firmware/ region of firmware choice likely to make a difference to when updates are rolled out?

Yeah, sure, but you can't know which one of them will push update first, and it doesn't really matter, because when the new update is out you can also download it from Sammobile and flash it with Odin, like most people often do. Till recently i had Galaxy S5, 900F model, and when last year Samsung pushed 5.0 update, Poland was the first European country to get it, so i just downloaded Polish 5.0 firmware and flashed it with Odin.

Clearly they do - did you see the amount of tests I did on the first page of this thread? If it IS a fake Samsung, then it's the best fake ever. Same camera spec (I grabbed photo exif data), same antutu and geekbench scores, very good build quality etc.

NTT DoCoMo SC-02C FAQ in progress, coming soon...
Q: What is the difference between the SC-02C and other Galaxy S II models?
A: The FM radio on the "international I9100" is missing, and in its place is an ISDB-T digital TV receiver. (Similar to but using a different broadcast protocol as the DMB receivers in the korean M250 models) The SC-02C does not have NFC capabilities, like all models except the M250.
Q: How can I unlock the SC-02C?
A: The unlock used for other early Galaxy S II models will not work on the SC-02C. You can have the handset unlocked at your nearest DoCoMo shop for 3150 yen (tax-inclusive). This does not supposed to affect your monthly billing.
Q: Where can I find original SC-02C firmware if I need to return the handset for service?
A: There is not an official version of the OMKF2 firmware that the earliest released handsets came with, however you may obtain a copy of the first update, OMKG5, here.
Q: What is the current version firmware?
A: The final firmware version is OMMP7 (Android 4.0.3)
Q: What's the deal with tethering?
A: If you use tethering (i.e. mobile access point) you may find your monthly pakehodai charge has increased to 10,395 yen/mo. Its suspected that turning the built-in tether feature switches you invisibly to a different APN which generates an increase on the bill.
Q: How do I activate the Palette UI that Docomo is advertising?
A: Use the 'Home Switcher' application or clear the defaults for 'TwLauncher' in Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications.
Q: Can I use I9100 images (and custom ones) on the SC-02C (or vice-versa)?
A: To an extent yes, there are a couple issues:
1. The kernel/baseband must be for SC-02C or else you will lose GPS/One-Seg functionality. (You can generally flash these back after installing a custom image)
2. The SC-02C has a different partition layout, FACTORYFS is 100MB larger than I9100 and HIDDEN is 100MB smaller. The disk usage on the current OMxxx images does not exceed the size of the I9100 partition, however it is VERY close and the SC-02C's partition table was likely laid out different to allow for additional growth.
Got it now, factory standard firmware is:
PDA: SC02COMKF2
Phone: SC02COMKF2
CSC: SC02CDCMKF2
(Yes, those SC02C prefixes ARE correct, not GTI9100)
I'll see if I can extract original firmware from Kies tonight when I get home.
DoCoMo is bundling a 1GB microSD, and selling the charger seperately (I have 3 other micro-usb-charging phones so no big deal).
Oh, and I think the Palette stuff must have been removed at the last minute, I can't find any trace of it.
Kies firmware info:
SC02COMKF2/SC02CDCMKF2/SC02COMKF2/SC02COMKF2
ProductCode - SGH-N033LKNDCM
Yes, these ARE different than the usual format, I know.
They ARE correct though, direct cut & paste out of my Kies registry keys.
(DCM obviously DoCoMo and SC-02C is the japanese-market name for the handset, Galaxy S was SC-02B)
The Palette UI is something you have to download from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nttdocomo.app.paletteui&feature=search_result
I'm picking mine up on Sunday
Actually its NOT. I later found out how to activate it (there's an app called "home switcher" or something which lets you toggle back and forth between Palette and TW4). Its just as nasty as the promo videos make it out to be.
On other fronts, I rooted today. There don't appear to be any firmware images available on kies for the SC-02C so I had to take a leap of faith and try to root without a backup kernel to go back to. CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip did work though. CF-Root kernel seems to lack support for the one-seg TV though.
The big downer - the nv_data.bin hashes for unlock keys are using a non-zero salt, which means an unlock will be hard to come by without foregoing handset subsidies.
I guess I keep my Galaxy Ace for use on overseas trips for the time being.
so.....
If I get the docomo SGS II can I put whatever ROMs on the phone that are available for vanilla USA SGS II?
The whole reason I have a vibrant here in Japan, instead of the docomo SGS, is because there are no ROMs available for the docomo phone (that I know of).
Please advise. I might go get one this week...
I'm so happy. DoCoMo called at 1845 to tell me I could pick up my SC-02c. Of-course by the time I got to the shop they were closed so I'm going to have to burn half a days leave today and try to beat the crowd. It was a surprise because when I pre-ordered they told me all of the first order were already sold so I guess they either got a bigger shipment than expected or there were some cancellations. I'm guessing that since CF-Root worked we will probably get a crack at some custom ROM's unlike the SC-02b.
Its probably obvious but I'd be very wary about flashing the baseband image on an SC-02C in Odin since DoCoMo are obviously doing something different in there as evidenced by the differences in unlock. CSC/PDA will probably be OK though.
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4.tar got my SC-02C rooted.
Haven't messed with ROMs yet. Haven't even had the phone for 2 hours. hahahaha

Sorry I forgot to mention the one-seg not working. I never use it so no big loss for me.
Any particular reason you used KE8 rather than KF2 to match the rest of the firmware already on the handset?
My GPS seems to work OK. I don't think it would be affected, since my guess is that'd go through the baseband.
warning, you loose your SC02C baseband if you flash the TK-ROM_v0_3_1.zip

This is my first Android phone, but I had a Tablet before which I flashed a couple times, so I'm not a complete noob.
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

You might go to I9300 International for better specific help over there :good:
Your probably the only one on this forum with one so I don't think anyone knows if any ROMs are compatible with it.. But the root method may still be the same so you can try rooting it and than installing Root explorer (paid) or ES File Explorer (free) to remove them from system/app or just get Titanium Backup (paid) after rooting and remove them that way (best option IMO)
So just head over to the international forums and read their easiest root method.
Best of luck, be careful, those things aren't covered under any warranty if you brick it huh :what:

Thanks for the advice. Is there any way to know what "version" I have? I mean, the phone came from China, but knowing the market, it could be Chinese, Hong Kong, Vietnamese or who knows what.

Vietnamese doesn't use those weird letters, it uses French alphabet.

Hmm pretty much the only info about its build you could compare to others would be under Settings > About device, screenshot that and post it up over on the international forums and ask them if it resembles theirs in any way. Personally I'm pretty positive the ROMs won't be directly compatible and definitely wouldn't flash any of them, but if I personally can't use an Android phone without root so I'd personally try the root method and pray to god my phone booted afterward lol
Tough situation man, curious as to how it goes for you so post back if you try !

From what I read about those Chinese knock-offs they only have like 512MB RAM and almost just as bad in storage capacity.. how can anyone use a phone like that nowadays?
I don't think any ROM will even "fit" on it, sorry to say

Some people can only afford what they can afford man. No point in discouraging what they buy. Obviously OP knew it was a knockoff before buying.

Really? Not to be a ****, but mind showing us a screen shot under the "about device" section in settings?
Because as far as I know, there are no legit GS3's coming out of China on direct sales..
Do you know the model number? It's in Settings -> About

Weird......most of Sammy's stuff is rolling out of china, including my T-999
I said on "direct sales"
Having a factory in China is not the same as selling unbranded GS3s from China. Plus it's known that they're selling knockoffs

It's not unfathomable that a few slip out and on to the streets
You have to confirm your model number, there are many Galaxy S3
models (international,japan,korean,US) selling in China.
Come on, I'm telling you it's good...
Here is the About device:

I would personally try to flash a standard i9300 ROM onto it. Then you wouldn't have to worry about any sketchy apps that have been added.
There's no guarantee it will work, but if it really is a legit i9300 (which it seems to be), I would imagine the standard international ROM would work on it.

Hello guys,
The USA got their update on Friday, but nothing so far in the UK. I am really unhappy with the very jerky user experience on the Note 4 and want to try the update which apparently has made a big difference to many who are experiencing system-wide lags and jerky scrolling. Do any of you know if this update is eminent, have any of you had it yet? I am on EE.
N910FXXU1ANIE is the build I have... and it was built on 16th september
N910FXXU1ANJ4 was built on 8th october, and is supposedly smoother.
What build do you have, what is your experience scrolling Messages, Play Store, Facebook, Google+ etc...?
Cheers,
Mark.

lag?
Does anyone find that the phone occasionally misses touches? For example when typing i will press a key and the phone ignores my tap. No sound, no feedback and its not lagging. If you wait it does not appear. It only happens once every half hour, but is annoying. It is not limited to typing, can happen when pressing app button on home screen or trying to enter an app. If you press the unresponsive button immediatly after it works again.
Having just come from an iphone i am not used to this.
Anyone else experienced this?
I have just checked for updates on my phone and found this

so does these updates really remove the lag or is it another useless update??

Scrolling pretty much anything other than the home screen and app drawer, things like Facebook, Gmail, G+, Pulse...
Much jerkier than my N5.
I am going to do a factory reset and see if it jerks my phone into update mode. Mine seems to be stuck at the sept 16th build it came with.

I agree! No lag for me so far.
I am starting this thread for the G920I model of the S6. Codenamed "Zerofltedv".
Where is G920I Available?
- Singapore
- India
- Australia
- USA
- Latin American countries
- North America
The S6 comes with regional locks for particular countries, And need to be activated with a sim specific for that region.
What is this thread about?
- For discussion.
- Online and local availability.
- Isssue discussion.
- Custom ROM development specific for this variant.
- Pricing
- Accessories
Curious to see which country with the G920I model gets updates first so I can flash that region's firmware in Odin. Australia will obviously be last as usual so I'm keen to get off this firmware ASAP and get onto one that doesn't block auto-rotate in the Gallery app

And regarding the auto rotate, it's been an issue on Samsung phones in Australia for years due to some lawsuit with Apple.

No details on the changes, but it looks like Indian firmware has a build date of 31 March while everyone else is still the 7th of March.

Yes, I am on the Indian firmware, which came right out of the box, got a small update yesterday thou. If our models are G920I then we should be able to flash any firmware for the same. My question is what is up with the regional locks? will that be a problem?
IS anyone here having the flash always on problem? mine is very dimly lit if you see it in the dark. very very dim, I have to try hard to observe it. Is it a major issue? are your devices doing the same?
am on a singapore version and i dont have the flash always on problem. battery life sucks though, coming from a OPO.

Apparently it is not a normal feature and samsung has been made aware of this issue and they are working on it. Saw this today on the xda channel.
