It is available from www.sony.co.uk their own store. I bought it on Sunday and it got delivered yesterday. Just writing the first impressions with some photos now. Will be live in 90 mins approx.

Appart from the obvious 10x optical zoom, have you noticed any advantages on using the QX10 instead of the Z1's 20.7 mpix G lens 1/2.3shooter?
Are photos that better with the 1/2.3 18 mpix QX10? Is it worth? Or should we wait for the more capable (one inch sensor) QX100?

From my perspective the QX10 delivers much better quality photos. I would use it for stills not motion though. It has superior low light, nearly noise free, sharp and clear. However, it will be more convenient to carry once the spa-acx2 case is available, since you can reduce its thickness by removing the clamp section.
However, you have no real control over the QX10. It is designed to be used in auto mode. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you want proper control you need the QX100, which I will be getting soon. From all the descriptions by Sony, I didnt expect the QX10 to have such good low light photos. So it makes me wonder how much better the QX100 wil be.
I reckon it will be better manual control and slightly better quality optics.
The Z1 camera firmware really needs improving. The danger here is in 3-6 months Sony have addressed this, and the QX10 might only be useful for zoom. Somehow, I still think the QX10 will always take better quality shots though.

So, it DOES take better pictures than the Z1's sensor?

Better quality yes. Z1 camera has more fancy options due to its speed and effects

As I sold my HTC One to get a better camera phone I hope Sony update the firmware as fast as they can. The HTC One took very good photo's but the 4mp was lacking for detail in my opinion and it was nowhere near as good as my trusty 'old' Lumia 920 camera which I was very impressed by.
Going to wait a few months and see if the camera improves if not will seriously consider the QX10 with the Sony case for attaching it onto which looks seriously cool.

I am too thinking of swapping from HTC One to Z1 due to purple tint issue in the camera.
Though is it worth it to take the Z1 instead of other phones like S4 and G2 just for the 20mp?
Camera is important for me but the 170g and large bezel of the Z1 are crazy no?
Also what about the screen under sunlight?
Even if not as good as the One,is it usable for texting for example?

I wouldn't go back to the htc one. The z1 camera needs firmware tweaking. 20mp doesn't equal great shots. I wouldn't get either samsung . the z1 build quality is fantastic. Waterproof etc. No sunshine yet. So can't tell you. Texting etc is fine. Default keyboard can be customised. I think its swiftkey.

I must find some time to at the very least look at my Z1.
It arrived Wed so that is three days the package has sat waiting to be opened....

Trouble is if I do have a peek it will end up with me picking it up, then reaching for the rest of the box contents.....
The next thing I would find myself putting the phone on charge, and I just know although I would be sat working the temptation to keep looking across at the soft glowing red light waiting for the change to green would be just too tempting.
So no, not even a peek Gavin.

Xperia Z3 wishlist

1. Display screen by SRGB standard or SRGB mode (or better yet automatically switch between color profiles)

As for the next generation z series, z3 or z4 I would say
1 up to date processor and ram improvement well.
2 screen quality improved not just resolution they have to improved with color production and other factors. Z2 is great but why stop there push it for more
3 thicker phone or retain z2 thickness so that more battery capacity 3500 mah preferably or more if 2k resolution 3,800 is needed and camera sensor bigger, maybe they should start improving camera lens at the back and 5 mp to 8 mp front camera with led flash.
4 front stereo retain and improved audio quality but headphone quality included should be as good as my xperia s. Up today that headphone is the best I used. Maybe xba 2 dual armature will be a dream come true
5 charging dock should be available to all z series and I think it is better to have additional used such as stereo mode even with good quality sound output
6 software improvement from camera from superior mode, faster focus and user interface; video quality; walkman; social life and all other software sony app needs also a better widget. Put some transparent type this is android.
7 sunlight legibility this is a simple and really waterproof but barely see during sunny days is kinda weird. We expect a premium and kinda outdoor user friendly.
8 ois hardware or not we really need a good used of stability of taking video just improved it. The trend now is more people going outdoor and take a video or picture themselves doing even a crazy things such as zip lining or even biking during selfie or taking video. If they can maximized software and have a quality video why would we buy a go pro when we can used our phobe to have a great time taking video.
9 synchronization of all sony product I think all in one software is a good start for mutimedia devices. Cause we don't really like many app each device.
10 improved wifi and gsm reception signal
11 improved hardware connection device such as USB, hdmi and others. I really dont know if z2 is updated well better to say than be sorry
12 stop pushing bigger device. Many consumers have small hands like me im having difficulty using my z2.
13 new physical design we need it now.
14 one thing I observed is we have to choosed different type of packages such as there are package include a good headphone and a dock other headphone only and another dock. And sometimes no dock and cheapskate headset. Really one package is enough to all of us sony make up their mind if they're gonna a package one package is enough.
15 Well to retain pricing, I think sony should have a better value added feature or hardware include to retain competitive China phone such as xiaomi mi4 it cannot justify the introductory price of z2.

Lack of fingerprint sensor is the best Z3+ feature for me Z5 premium looks interesting. I wish there was a Z5 ultra with that kind of crazy resolution.

From a student of photography there wont be much in the extra 3 megapixels unless your doing some high res editing - for taking pics of your first pint on holiday or selfies with the mrs it wouldn't be much different.

I have heard people saying that this processor is no good. Any truth to that?

The difference in the camera isn't just that it's a few megapixels higher in value. The camera sensor is new, and made by Sony for Sony. Judging from what's been said the lenses used will be better, it's got a better aperture etc too.

Initial impressions are positive. The whole lineup is great. Compact will have insane GPU performance.

It seems to me the heat issues that initially appeared on the 810 have been forgotten by many, I can't tell if this is because of the 2.1 revision of the processor fixing the issues or if as some claim, the issues were not that bigger deal and other handsets with different cpu´s also suffer similar issues.
Let´s hope that if there are any issues, sony manages to patch them somehow with heat absorbing materials or any other solution that doesn't rev down the cpu clock.

Nope. Heating seems alright, 10+ minutes of 4K recording is pretty good.

Hope it comes to Tmobile.....

I was expecting the type c port is used on this phone, specs show fast charging is included.

Z5 Compact a joke?

Why is this Z5 compact such a joke? It almost has the same specs as the z3 compact and the new camera aint all that good. The new sensor might be good but what if you cant make the software work? Its like putting a retard in a F1 car. Look at these photosamples http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ on the right you find a note 5, which has a sony sensor at 16MP and on the left you find the Z5 premium with a 21MP sensor but it cant shoot any good pictures in the dark..... So again sony ****ed it up.

And I think we should wait for more photo samples to appear before we take final judgement. Most of these early photo samples are using non-final software.

Hate to point out the obvious but every new phone that comes is an incremental improvement over its predecessor. Look at the iPhone, people(fools) queue for hours to be first to get the new model with 10% faster cpu, 10% bigger screen, 10% more pixels on the cmos sensor, and 20% less battery power. How i chuckle when i see iphone 6 owners, like junkies desperately looking for their next power fix! But, i digress.
A jack of all trades is a master of none. It is after all, a phone. It is not meant to be a world class, low light camera. My first camera phone was 0.3megapix. I thought it was pretty damn cool to have a camera at all. People just take it for granted nowadays. You want good low light photos, buy a camera. You know, them things you cant make phone calls on!

I to had Z3C, were active in XDA section for it, and for one i KNOW Z5C has a better camera to start with. Only thing it doesn't have is battery life on KK with Z3C which owned every cell phone with flagship specs.
On Z3C my focus struggled at times, colors were oversaturated and in many occasions picture looked washed out. That is not the case on Z5C BUT there is a lot room for improvement and i think Sony will do it in time. Great potential with the IMX230 hardware.

Yes the camera on the z3c was worse then on the z5c but when you look at the pictures taken with a z5c you will see blurry edges and its almost impossible to make awesome macro shots. So even tho this camera is a bit better it still cant mess with other high ends like note 5 or LG g4 that also uses a sony sensor so thats why i think this z5c is kinda a joke. But if sony doesn't fix all these problems like laggy OS then this will be my last sony phone.

If you really think the performance is as bad as you say you should properly try another vendor! In my experience, they are at least as bad and some a lot worse..
Honestly, I would prefer a smaller Nexus, and might even go for the 5X despite the size.. Nexus device are best in performance (os lag eg), the rest are catching up lately!
You do know that the standard resolution in the app is set to 8M, right?.. I did read its better at that res, but you should maybe try and change it, it goes up to 23 you know..

Yup, because before it was out i judged on sample photo's and now that i own 1 i can confirm it that everything is knew before buying 1 was true. Even in clear daylight most photo's always seem to have a bit of blur on the right side. And batterylife is a bit wonky.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem (except on the left edge instead), returned for a replacement and the second one is much better. It only blurs out the very far corners and only rarely, most pictures are fine. Have you still time for an exchange?
My battery life experience is pretty decent.

No but i can always send it back to the repair center because they sold me a faulty unit but i need to make more photo's to give it a final judgement tho. Which color phone you got and what rev number is on the box if i may ask?

Yellow. 1298-3810 Rev 1. My first one which had the blur was also the exact same though so I'm not sure whether that number means all that much.

Yea guess the color has nothing to do with is then because lots of white one's have the most problems it seems.

Well, yes, you are correct, a different phone does perform differently... but that's not the point and your Z5 has nothing to do with the topic. We're comparing current flagship camera performance.

Well my post has alot to do with the topic.
Since X/X Performance performs better than Z5.
I mean the settings were strange or the mode, I don't know.
The Sony in lowlight can do as good as S7.

Yes, we all know that DXO manages to be the only source that gives Sony phones high scores. They are able to set up each shot in a manner that allows for objective analysis of each scene. However, their results are rarely representative of what people get on point and shoot situations. Check any YouTube comparison and you'll see that Sony photos just don't look as good when placed next to the leading competition. It's not a trick, it's not just a single review, it's a trend.
But why do I need to convince you. You saw the videos, right? The evidence is all there. The Sony simply underperformed and the overheating issue is consistent with other reviewers well. It's a shame though because we need Sony to succeed. They make great phones and I want another compact flagship some day.

Well now you are heavily exaggerating that it's the only review. As others have posted positive reviews as well. And dxo also specializes in camera reviews. I'd trust their review more so than others for camera.
I have yet to experience overheating in any regular use.

I trust DXO to know more about what makes a photo technically accurate, but the average person only cares about what looks good to them. A shot that scores well technically may look dull and lifeless to the average person. So many people prefer to compare cameras against each other rather than against some checklists. Regardless of how well it scores technically, ask yourself, does the Sony phone look better than the competition in any of the videos above? The answer should be a clear, "no".
On another note, I should clarify that the overheating isn't a result of daily usage, but of recording video. For some reason, the X performance shuts down when recording video. I might forgive it if it was recording 4k resolution (as it did with my z3c), but there's no excuse for a brand new flagship to be shutting down on 1080p. And it didn't just happen in the link above, there's an entire YouTube video dedicated to timing how long each Sony phone takes to overheat and shut down.

If we are talking average person then they won't see differences in clarity. If the experts of cameras say it's the best camera I believe them. Sonys phone boots the camera faster than the others at <.6 seconds. Higher resolution. And easier to use with superior auto and I don't have to change settings. Have you yourself experienced over heating?

The XP camera is fantastic, no other words to describe it. It's night and day compared to my z5c. The reviews I've read sometimes claim a photo that to me is clearly worse is the "winner", so without a clear methodology the reviews are subjective.

If you watch videos and take there showcase as Bible then your always losing.
Living in comparisons (grass is always greener) will always give you a negative result.
For me the camera is absolutely fandabydosey.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you mean that we'll always be disappointed by comparing to other phones because the grass always seems greener on the other side, then I have to disagree. We're disappointed because the grass really is greener. Its not as subjective as you make it seem.
If the XP looks worse in a side by side comparison, then that means it looks worse. The other phones looked better in most shots. What's the argument? Are you saying the XP somehow looked better from your perspective? This thread isn't about our personal experiences with the phone. It's about how the comparison shows the XP to under-perform when compared directly to other phones taking the same shots at the same time.

I didn't hear anywhere in video where he states what setting he used for the Sony. It's not a full blown conclusion in that specific video in my opinion.
Regardless, I'm stating the camera is very good. But in your eyes it's never going to be. 2nd hand tests/judgements don't really cut it in my opinion.
Above all I take your point, there perhaps is some validity in your video link, however I would ask you perform a full blown side by side and see if the XP really falls drastically short when comparing with other devices.
Didn't come here to lay down an argument. Just chime in with my opinion.

Sigh... Yes, another camera review that takes a few photos and says they look good. No one here doubts that a flagship phone can take good pictures. The site you link does not do a side by side comparison which is what this thread is about. Side by side, Sony doesn't seem to keep up with the competition.
It's funny, in the Z3 and Z5 sections, most members actually reached that same conclusion on there own regarding those respective devices. Why is this section so sensitive?
Instead of arguing about this, I was hoping people would actually comment on the comparison.

The Xperia Perfomance X camera pretty much destroys the competition. Great colors, well outlined detail without resorting to abuse of post-processing like the generally bad S7 photos and great exposure. The XXP at ISO 3200 beats the S7 at ISO 1250 like a champ. Z1+ line already outperformed S7 in most areas but XXP takes it to a new level. Pretty much a generational leap. Very impressed!

That is the real life results I saw. Beats a 1080p 8Mbit/s encoded Youtube video of medium encoding quality by miles.
