HI Guys:
Today we want to try the miracast (wifi display) function on the newest Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 smartphone.
Redmi Note 2 is using 64bit Helio X10 Octa Core CPU, comes with MIUI V7 (base on android 5.0 os).
We test with our Tronsmart T1000, T1000 Elite, T1000 Plus Miracast adapter, and all of them can mirror
Redmi Note 2 screen to TV without problem. Here are some photos:

Step 1: You should open the wireless display function in settings, see the following photo:
Click “More” in setting

Turn on the “Wireless display”
Step 2: Connect our miscast adapter (such as T1000) to your TV, and change to Ezmirror(miracast) mode. and then follow the instruction on screen to connect.
If you want to enjoy better game experience , we suggest you choose Tronsmart T1000 Plus which support 5G wifi.

easycast 5g problem
Hi i bought this gadget from gearbest (EasyCast 2.4G + 5G Wi-Fi Display Dongle)
I tried on my TV which is not smart tv but has usb and HDMI port.
First question is, does the tv needs to be smart tv?
If i try through wifi direct or screen mirroring it does some kind of connection and after it crashes directly.
I changed to 5g and to miracast but my samsung galaxy s5 does not find the dongle in the wireless networks list so i can put the password and continue.
Does the dongle need to be very close to my rooter which is just on the other room?
Basically after i try all this things i never had the chance to show in the tv my smartphone homescreen.
Is there any better manual than the one in the box of the gadget, or any video for the easycast 5g dongle not the ota one?
Thanks

Stick on Universal for me, that is huge phone if in my palm. Anyway if someone give it to me as gift, I won't disappoint him/her, I'll use it...
From what I read, this has a detachable keyboard, thus I can't consider as a Universal successor.

To fast to talk? But if I read more and see the pict that uploaded that compare Athena to Universal... I think i'm start to fall in love with athena???
its really great device but for me I am still thinking I have same usability with my old universal. Sure, I would like 8Gb hdd and 5'' LCD but except of this I find nothing more usefull in everyday life.
I am fully aware of usb-host and ext. VGA -these are really great extensions but I am asking myself how many time I use VGA out except of those first time shows-off to my friends. Same for USB - How many time I attach external harddrive.
My point is - I would consider spending around 1K$ for a device with similar specs like my old uni.
But of course If I dindt have Uni I would definitely consider buying it.
And I would buy it right now if it would have 800x480 display or something with better resolution - this is the most important feature for me.
just my 2c
best,
Whoa...awesome . I'd have thought VGA res would look a tad pixelated on a 5" display, considering that all other VGA's are 3.7". But this one manages to pull it off...Is it an 18-bit (262K color) TFT, or the regular 16-bit?
PLEASE NOTE THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SAMSUNG ALLSHARE CAST SCREEN MIRRORING ONLY - NOT ALLSHARE / PLAY OR OTHERWISE.
POST EDIT 13.10.212 - Latest gathered information and Thread rollup.
1. All Samsung Phones with allshare cast should be able to connect to samsung tv's with allshare cast, My S3 works great with my 55 F series.
2. Samsungs Allshare cast dongle works but i found it flaky and laggy, although watching movies was generally ok with no audio lag/ sync issues (using samsung video player)
yes but this is just you telling us some information.......that your now saying they will not even publish or comfirm. so we should take your word and sticky it hoping its accurate.....not belittling the information, just a link or source would be good.

Like I said, they advised there is nothing official anywhere about this, it would help some people to have this mentioned in a sticky somewhere, it will save them time trying different ROMS and going back to stock like I did, what's the worst that could happen if you do and I am wrong?
I believe him and can you please let me know when the update is so I can update my TV firmware ..... thanks

Hi, just dropping you some info on this as its a really useful option but nobody can seem to get it to work on Samsung TV's where it should be working without a dongle as long as you have a compatible model. Sammy tell me that this is only working on the newer ES models at the moment but there will be an update shortly for all compatible smart TV's which will allow it to work, so it doesn't matter which ROM you are using, stock or cooked. They also tell me they this information hasn't been released and there is nothing in any support sections about this.
Might be worth adding this to the info sticky if not already there.

Sammy told me it should be working, however it could be that only the higher end ES models are capable like the older models, if your is a 7 or 8 series ES is should work, although you need to check the support section for a firmware update, i made that mistake of thinking there were not updates for mine as i was checking using the support section on the TV which only checks for OTA;'s, there were two USB updates to install on mine. It could be yours just needs updating. Register your TV and sammy and check for firmware updates in the software section.

any people have been trying to get some information about allshare cast on existing samsung tv's that dont need the additional dongle, do you have any information on this, it has been suggested but samsung support uk that some models will get a firmware update soon, when and which models?. I have also been told by Samsung support that the ES models already support allshare cast, they dont appear to at all.

Samsung UK Hi Julian, i will confirm this with our customer service team and let you know. ^Ravi
losing the Will to live..
Galaxy S3 wireless Media connectivity explanations:
1.) - ALLSHARE CAST - screen mirroring over miracast DNLA / WIFI - hardware decoding is done on Phone.
2.) - ALSHARE PLAY / SHARE - sends files to your tv and decodes / plays / shows files using TV hardware. (no real time screen mirroring)
3.) - ALLSHARE CAST DONGLE - as in option 1 but for none wifi tv's, you have to buy the dongle which connects to your tv hdmi port.
Samsung now tell me that allshare cast isnt currently working on any devices, it is still in dev, although when I asked about the allshare dongle he didnt know what I was on about. He also suggested the SGS3 was missing some software to run allshare cast, how can that be the case if the dongle works? , do you get an app with the dongle does anyone know?
So none the wiser again after 30 mins on the phone with them.
UPDATE: 25.9.2012 - after exhaustive hammering at Samsung from various channels there is still no answer on this - here is an update on what is currently known / assumed:
1. Allshare cast is currently only working with the ALLSHARE CAST dongle it will not work with any TV's direct, regardless of model.
2. It is still not clear which TV's are going to work if it does eventually work at all, it was suggested by an OP at Samsung support that it will be only the high end models, although whether this means all those that have WIFI built in or just some of them.
3. The Allshare Cast info on the Samsung Website seems to have changed to me, it previously suggested it would work on all WIFI/DLNA enabled TV's regardless of model.
4. Samsung and other companies are still working on a universal mirroring system which will be an agreed variant of "mirrorcast", Samsungs version of Allshare cast appears to be an early version of this and may in fact not work very well - the lag on the dongle version seems to back this up.
So, if you want to use Allshare cast at the moment you will need a dongle and the dongle has quite a bit of lag which for me rules out gaming. Please also note this information is a best conjecture on my part and so I cannot corroborate any of it, choose to believe it or not, I am happy to make changes to this if people have any more up to date information.

I have tried that with my friend's D8000 model and it works. Whether the your TV will work with certain media is all depends on the TV's firmware that can decode your media or not. It is all DLNA and it has nothing to do with what Samsung call Allshare. Implementation of DLNA varies greatly between manufacturers and even models. My own Sony NX810 claimed to support DLNA and it turns out it can display JPEG photos only while the D8000 works with 1080P MKVs pushing from the phone. If your TV has WiFi, it doesn't mean it has WiDi (this is not WiFi Direct, WiFi Direct is an entirely seperate protocol). DLNA depends on your WiFi network and router settings. WiDi is direct to the TV like they are virtually connected with a cable.

Read. You need WiDi on your TV. WiDi is not a piece of software that Samsung can add to your TV. Not many TVs has WiDi. Your TV might have WiFi but without WiDi it will never work. By the way, the dongle is called allshare cast dongle. allshare cast is just the name of the dongle used to communicate with your phone. If you are talking about allshare cast, it is the dongle. If the phone works with your TV, it is not using the allshare cast. Allshare cast IS the dongle and without the dongle it will never works with your TV.

Rubbish, allshare cast is a feature in the same way allshare play and group cast are, the naming convention is irrelevant though, you clearly dont understand the difference between allshare play and cast - IT ISNT WORKING FOR YOU - YOU ARE MISTAKEN.

I would also like to know what has changed
Thanks for the information!
However, since you mentioned that Today Amazon has released a new Fire TV 5.0.3, I would like to know in which specific model of the FireTV, do you has received this new update??
I am asking you, because at this moment there are 3 FireTV models with different hardware specifications available:
- FireTV 2nd Gen. BOX
- FireTV 1st Gen BOX
- FireTV Stick (with 2 different Remotes Options: Bluetooth or WIFI)
I am not sure, but I suspect, for the v5.0.3 number that you have given us, this new update could be for the FireTV 2nd Gen. BOX..?
Please, let us know if you noticed any enhancements over the previous 5.0.2.2 (531006420) or something that now could work better (like the Wifi Remote)?
--
Edit...
Apparently this information is totally true, because I just checked the FireTV update site at Amazon, and now says that there is a newest version 5.0.3_user_532011220 for the Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation):*
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201497590
--
I just received that update for my FireTV Gen 1 will check later when I get home to see if it fixes dolby digital playback.
Biglo, are you fully sure that you received the 5.0.3_user_532011220 update, that supposedly is only for the 2nd FireTV BOX, on your 1st Gen. FireTV BOX?
This is a little strange, because on the amazon update site, it says that the latest 5.0.3_user_532011220 is for the 2nd Gen FireTV BOX and for the 1st Gen FireTV it still says that the current version is 51.1.6.3_user_516012020 ?

Well I'm on the developer preview I have attached a pic of the version number I have. I would also like to confirm that the Dolby digital has now been fixed with this update as well.
I wish i know what was going on with the 5.0.3 update I have 2nd FireTV BOX and I have yet to receive an update even checking for updates manually
@biglo - can you please elaborate. My understanding is that they would add additional option under Audio to send traditional DD over HDMI (in addition to DD+). Can you verify if that is what you are seeing.
They still have the same options as before
Dolby digital plus automatic
Dolby digital plus off
Dolby digital plus over HDMI
Dolby digital over optical
I'm using automatic
Ok, thanks. Can you please elaborate on how your system is wired and what specific fix are you noticing? There are many configuration variants out in the field. Thanks.

My FireTV connects direct to my AV system which then feeds one HDMI cable to my TV. I use automatic because the FireTV automatically switches to stereo if it detects the AV system is not turned on since I use pass-through mode when I'm not watching moving. So another thing that I'm noticing personally that I have no experienced by is now that when I press the home button out of the Netflix App and I open it right back up, it doesn't reload the app all the way over again it just start back from where you left off which is pretty handy (not sure if this is something that I haven't noticed before or what). I still havent checked much but I will try some more stuff today, meaning kodi and other sideload apps.
Thanks for the detail. But what was not working prior to 5.0.3?

Prior to the update I noticed that sometimes apps would just close suddenly without any warning, like I would be watching a show on Netflix or Hulu and the app would just crash to the home screen without any errors. The next issue which was the biggest for me is the Dolby Digital not working only Stereo supported. I can't remember having any other issues that really nagged me because they didn't effect me much but those are the ones that I remember mainly. Still haven't check out Kodi as yet, will update to the latest version and see whats going on there soon but so far pass through mode is still a no go all you get is white noise.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I am still waiting on the update. But I heard from several folks who received the update that they have no issues with pass through audio. Also, they confirmed that DD is now being sent to receivers that cannot handle DD+. // Max

Oh sounds good, will give it a try when I get home later today.
I am still waiting for my update to come, but at the ATTVNEWS site, some FireTV users that received the update, have finally confirmed that the low volume issue is gone!!
http://www.aftvnews.com/2nd-gen-fire-tv-starting-to-receive-version-5-0-3-software-update/
I do not know why but the Only APP that always worked for me flawlessly and with a very High Volume was “NHK WORLD”, but with all the others APPs, I always had an extremely Low volume level… The volume level was so Low, that always had to raise the volume to the double, that I was using with my 1st Gen. FireTV!
I Would also like to know, if anyone that received the update, has noticed some improvements in the UI and functionality of the FireOS-5, if it now works faster and with less lags?
I would also like to know, if anyone has noticed if all the connection problems with the WIFI Remote have been now corrected?
I finally received the 5.0.3 update. Before I share the results, would like to lay out my setup.
Fire TV 2 -> HDMI -> Samsung 4K (2014) -> TOSLINK -> Yamaha Receiver
I used Netflix movie FOCUS as a test. It has DD 5.1 audio.
Test 1: Fire TV 2 Set to Dolby Digital Plus (Automatic)
Result: Stereo at the Receiver (Samsung TV does not detect Dolby Digital signal)
Test 2: Fire TV 2 Set to Dolby Digital Plus over HDMI (i.e. force DD+)
Result: Stereo at the Receiver (Samsung TV does not detect Dolby Digital Signal)
Test 3: Fire TV Set to Dolby Digital Plus Off
Result: Stereo at the Receiver (Samsung TV does not detect Dolby Digital Signal)
Changed to Apple TV as the source (identical hook up … but to a different HDMI port on TV). Played the same Netflix movie.
Test Result: DD 5.1 at the Receiver (Samsung TV detects Dolby Digital Signal)
Final Result – Firmware 5.0.3 does not fix the problem for people who are using a setup that is similar to the above.

Can I ask why the FTV2 is going into the TV rather than going into the Yamaha receiver ?
I have a similar setup, FTV2 going into a Blustream HDCP manager (downgrades HDCP 2.2 for the handshake) then into a Yamaha receiver, then into the Samsung One Connect box and Dolby Digital is working perfect, also working with Kodi !

Not sure how much that HDCP manager costs - I am wary of adding more devices in the chain for a problem that can be easily cured by firmware updates. Roku has managed to do it in their version 3 of the box ... by offering either DD or DD+ as an option. I believe Amazon is working on precisely offering that kind of an option. I can wait - until then, DTS Neo 2:5 works satisfactorily.

This happens to me as well. To get the DD+ to work I would have to have my AV received turned on already and restart my firetv and DD+ starts to works. So yeah theres still bugs in the system as it doesn't auto detect correctly.
Turn Your Old Android Into A Chromecast
A Chromecast isn't the most expensive device in the world, but if you've got an extra Android device lying around, I would recommend saving the $25 and using it as a Chromecast. This can easily be done with just a few modifications. I'll show you how to get everything setup.
Things you'll need:
1. HDMI Cable
Most Android devices within the last few years will have an MHL compatible Micro-USB port. This means that you can get an adapter to plug your phone into an HDMI cord. You can pick up one of the adapters on Amazon for next to nothing.
Micro-USB to HDMI Adapter
2. Unwind Launcher for TV BETA
You'll want to install a launcher on the device that you'll be plugging into your TV. Unwind Launcher is my favorite and it's designed to be used on a big screen. Download this from the Play store and install it on your Android. It's free!

3. Tablet Remote
Tablet remote is an app that you'll install on the device plugged into the TV and on your everyday Android phone. This will let you use your phone as a remote to navigate your makeshift Chromecast device.
Download Tablet Remote
Once you've got everything that you need, you'll just plug in your phone to your TV and pair your two Android phones so you can use the remote feature. That's it! Now you have a fully functional Android TV device.
I've been trying to figure out how to do this except as a media (audio) receiver to use as a bluetooth dongle for use with auxiliary jack.

Great, care to show us how? Cause that's not evenly remotely linked to what you did here.
Using something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...p-youmap-chromecast-receiver-android-t3161851
or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/hardware-hacking/chromecast/app-cast-receiver-app-android-t2900726
might work (and these should work in the background along with the launcher you suggested here, meaning you get both a GUI on the TV and the ability to cast)

I had never heard of tablet remote but there's quite a few other options. I use droidmote. It's paid but I think it works best with android tv.
Agree with other posters. This isn't a fully functional chromecast. I was thinking I could cast my computer to the TV. This seems to just mimic an android tv box except you don't have a dedicated remote and most will need to buy the usb to hdmi adapter (if there old phone is compatible.)
BTW--I don't have much of an interest in this but why not use leanback launcher? Wouldn't that be better if you are trying to turn it into android tv?

Very true. I have 6 androids....not a single damn one has mhl support
I have an acer a500 tab and moto atrix hd, both having a dedicated micro-hdmi port. unfortunately tablet remote gave error-1 on both devices when I tried to setup the connection.
Some androids use slimport instead of mhl

You are right! I'm looking for chromecast-ish app for android phone. Does anyone knows something like that? I know, there is Cheap Cast but that program isn't available in google play shop and I'm not sure if it is safe.

CheapCast is no more available in Google Play but it is available here on XDA, the fact is i don't know if it still works since some users reported that it doesn't anymore, you gotta try it by yourself and, if you can, report back to its thread to help others.
I have an older Motorola Electrify M (XT901) with all the USCC stock firmware (still locked bootloader without root). It has JB Android 4.1 and a 1080p HDMI Port.
With that stated, will this this phone be able to be Chromecast repurposed?
Just wondering as to any restrictions to this.
I never bothered to try and unlock/root it since it was stored for quite some time when I upgraded to Samsung.
It still works like a charm!
Thanks!
My Atrix hd now has become android TV with kodi installed and connected to the TV by the micro hdmi port. Kodi has a remote app called kore which you can install on other phone and control it from there.
Has any one found a way to convert an old Android phone with HDMI output to become a Chromecast receiver?
I just want to press the Chromecast button of my PC browser and watch the videos on the TV. I do not want any menus nor apps on the TV/phone. I just need the phone to become a "dongle".
@DrGreenway, I also have an older Motorola Electrify that's still a quality device with an HDMI port.
It was upgraded years ago to a newer device and hasn't been in service for quite some time. It still works like a charm.
So I'd like to re-purpose this device for Chromecast...
Can it be done on this specific device?
Thanks a Bunch!

Not out of the box as 90% of such kind of devices. You need to load firmware from other devices with same chip which support 5.1, not fully supporting all the z68 hw components though, and use modified versions of kodi to support rockchip rk3368.

Have a look at freaktab com forums, section tv players. As to the rockchip based android tv players the best supported seems to be nagrace, zidoo and ugoos devices. May be other chipsets such as amlogic are better or even an intel/windows based device.

The device does not turn off by design. It hasn't got a physical power button and it will only go in stanby with the power on remote. The only way to put it off is to pull off the power cable.
I have not tested it with hdmi-cec cause the tv where i have it attached at the moment does not support cec.
Bought one works great, better than the Fire Stick I was using.
I just received this box and while it's mostly working fine I have stutter and audio sync issues using Netflix, HBO and to some extent YouTube. Plex and Kodi works perfectly though.
Anyone got an idea what could be causing it? Wifi speed is consistently strong, so I'm thinking it's some kind of HDMI issue. I've tried a different cable but that didn't help
I have been using this box for a few weeks now, and I've noticed that a firmware update is badly needed. Can anyone direct me to where I can get a firmware update for this box? It doesn't display 4k, doesn't detect USB drives, or allow access to them, "I've tried several". There are several other issues that I don't remember at the moment as well... Thanks for any help... Ohh yeah, and it would be great to run apps off the micro SD and not the 2x internal storage spaces, they filled up within the first few days...lol

+1 here
Ordered mine from the European warehouse of Gea*best( althoght they took 10 days to ship it, 2 more to arrive in Belgium).
Arrived and when I boot it up it works for about 4 minutes; then it locks up.
Unplug the power, plug it again and it locks up even before the launcher.
Any clue about where to get a firmware before send it back?
Thanks in advance.

I am cyber7 from freaktab and there is a very "lightweight" release for this box that strips it to a no-nonsense device you can use. Go have a look!
Thank you both for the reply! After this post and some more searching I found cyber7
Yesterday evening I opened the box and installed a motherboard chipset cooler I had around and the freezes stopped at least during the 25 minutes I had it running. The 1 mm aluminium "cooler" the chip brings is really for laughing...
That said I will try @aubreykloppers 's stripped down version soo: thanks man for your really good work. if it works good, i'll buy you the coffee

The light release is very quick and runs without a "heat cooler"
I have been running mine (with Kodi and an active Launcher) for about 2 weeks non-stop and have no heat problems. That said, dispersing heat is never a bad idea, unless you are from Antarctica
after a few attempts a cant make the pc detect this or other older box I have from a friend. Is there a SD card method? I already went on the recovery but there is no option to flash from sd...
Just bought this box so I could stream Kodi to my TV, among other things. I tried the Leelbox prior to this, but it was kind of slow and prone to freezing up at times.
So I bought this box because of the better specs, and now I am having a hell of a time trying to navigate on this thing. In some apps, it's impossible to navigate because I can't even see where I'm clicking. I can't even get into the Play Store because it seems to be impossible to click the "accept" button. I have to install all my apps through the browser using Aptoide, and even then that's not a great workaround because, yet again, I can't even see where I'm clicking. Navigating this thing so far is a complete guessing game. I can't believe there's no "mouse" mode on this like the Leelbox had. I'd love to know how you were able to get into the Play Store. Any help or tips???
Use a normal pc usb mouse wired or wireless. Then buy an air mouse remote very soon.

Thanks, I figured that would have to be the case just looking at other people's videos of the box; they were all using mice. So I bought a cheap USB mouse from Walmart and no issues! I was able to sign in and access the Play Store, as well as use the browser normally. It's kind of annoying that a cursor mode wasn't included on the remote, but hey, I'm not complaining, especially since this box performs much better than the Leelbox for my needs. =)
