Presumably you do *not* want to buy the cdma one... You should buy the one that is compatible with the t-mobile network if the UK is the country you're going to be using it in.

If you plan on traveling to North America, the 850/1900 UMTS network here is bigger than the 1700/2100. If you plan on traveling to Asia and I think Australia, there are a few networks that use the 900 band.
It doesn't matter which GSM model you get if you are only counting UK networks.
My query revolves around the google ordering site, both options appear pretty similar...
Initially I thought it was option 2 I needed but now it doesn't really matter, if I understand the replies above. I will mainly be UK based but will be in Europe occasionally.
3G is essential for obvious reasons.

I have seen you post in a couple of Forums and from what I have read they say get the T-MOBILE version, that is the BEST for T-MOBIL UK O2, that is the first one released,

At last.........thanks for being clear and to the point.
Although both versions will work perfectly fine in the UK (all UK carriers use the 2100 UTMS band for 3G), it really depends if you ever plan on using it abroad.
Europe, Asia, Africas and Oceania (everywhere else but Americas basically) you are better off getting the 900/AWS/2100 "US T-Mobile" version as most carriers use 900/2100 band around the world.
Americas (both North and South) you are better with the 850/1900/2100 "US AT&T" version as the majority use the 850/1900 band.
I myself have the 900/AWS/2100 version because most of my usage abroad are either in Europe (France/Italy) or in Asia (Hong Kong/China). You can check the frequency band usage yourself at Wikipedia so you can lookup your favourite carriers if needed.
The Moto Z Play GSM unlocked releases tomorrow in the U.S., and it's not fully compatible with AT&T LTE. So basically its a T-mobile phone. What the hell! I'm so angry they did this. Anyone know where I can pick up the mexican or brazilian model from the States?

According to GSM Arena, the only supported bands on AT&T are 2 and 4. AT&T uses Bands 17, 5, 2 and 4
I think the odds are that is not correct, but I can't guarantee that.
it is correct unfortunately... I already called them. Like I said. Super pissed about it. I really really wanted this phone because of the battery life. Looks like I have to go with the one plus 3 now.

How accurate the app is i dont know, but LTE does infact work fine.
People assumed what Moto had for the supported bands was correct, but people have gotten their phones and all the bands for ATT are there with the GSM model.

It supports LTE band 17, in fact all bands for AT&T. It was mentioned on the box. I got it yesterday and its working just fine. On Best Buy and Motorola website its bad copy paste job from Moto Z Droid.
Going to be picking mine up from best buy in a bit... I will also report back my findings. Hoping everyone is correct about the bad copy pasta

I just bought my phone from ebay, the language on the box is spanish, i am guessing its from Mexico.
On the phone itself it says "MODELO:XT1635-02", TYPE:M1D64
I am in Houghton, Michigan right now and am on an H2O network, which uses AT&T networks.
I am checking network info repetetively, and HSPA is displayed in the settings and not LTE.
Dail *#*#4636#*#* in your phone's dailer for more info on your network.
I tried choosing "Only LTE" here and upon choosing this, the phone doesnt catch any network!
Is the US version same as the Mexican version?

Anyone with additional info please reply ASAP, because if this mexican phone wont catch LTE, i will give it back to the seller and buy a new US version of the phone,

The Mexican version of the phone should be 100% compatible. Make sure however you dont have the euro model or the Peru model.
Works with att lte here but not as good as my s7e att phone. But i still get lte in areas

I just bought the unlocked US Moto Z play from best buy and can't get on the LTE network. I live in a major US city too, philadelphia. Can you maybe share your APN settings with me? What else could it be?

Using LTE Discovery, I can see I'm currently connected to band 17 on my unlocked Moto Z Play. It appears the specs on Moto's website are incorrect.

So there are 2 model numbers for the moto z play. XT1635-01 and XT1635-02. I believe 01 is the US version and 02 is an international version. 01 doesn't seem to come w/ a usb type A to type C cable, and 02 seems horribly inconsistent where the versions shipped to india do seem to come w/ a usb type c cable and the versions to the EU don't seem to have said cable.
According to the box on -02 imgur.com/wBTrUhY, it does support band 17.
Has anyone that has -02 tried cyanogen 14.1 yet? Curious to know if they had any issues w/ flashing twrp or cyanogen to -02. Also curious if -01 takes a full size sim or only a nano-sim.

I live in Australia, and have just ordered this phone in India, who is supposed to bring it to Australia next week.
The box says 'Indian sim only'. But when I asked the Samsung customer care and looked into some other sources, people say that after using it on an Indian sim for 10-15 mins, it'll work on other networks too. The bands are supported though.
I'm really confused, whether to keep it or return it. Please suggest! Thanks in advance.

Thanks @pabgar for the info. I think the bands are supported. It's the regional lock I'm worried about. Because the box says Indian sim only. And there are confusing facts over the internet. Some say it won't work outside India, but others say that after using it on Indian sim and making a call for 10-15 minutes registers in on the Indian carrier, then it works on other networks too. I remember the Australians telling me Band 28 was necessary for good service within Australia.
Indeed B28 is low 700MHz band applied in rural areas because of long range from BTS
