S5 Duos (SM-G900FD) - Lock contacts to Sim1 or Sim2? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got an S5 Duos and want to know if it's possible to natively (or with an app) set specific contacts in my phone to a specific SIM automatically? i.e. it will auto call or text a contact using SIM 1 each and every time?
I use SIM 1 for my day to day usage calling family, works colleagues etc but I also have tenants who I only call or text using SIM 2 (I don't want them to have my other number on SIM 1) so want to keep them separate. I've looked everywhere but can't find a way to do this other than using the utterly useless Chomp SMS which mixes up SIM1 and SIM2 randomly and regularly, without warning which causes no end of issues.
It's such a simple an obvious issue I cannot believe Samsung haven't written this into the phone as standard.

Anyone got any feedback on this for what must be a really common issue?

Thanks but I've already tried this and it doesn't work. Won't lock a contact to a particular SIM even when you set it to. The phone still asks which SIM to use before sending which is what I wanted to avoid.

Is there any way....

..to retrieve SMS messages unseen by the Magician?
I think this is an software issue.
Reason I ask is this:
I bought a dual sim adapter and after I cut my 2 cards up to make them fit, I both inserted them into an old Nokia 3310 I had lying around. Interestingly enough, I saw SMS messages in my inbox from a few months back I hadnt seen before. So I am 99% sure the software isnt capaturing all events, God knows for whatever reason.
Beside the usual **** you receive via SMS, there were some messages form my girlfriend, so in order to prevent heavy arguments with her in the future due to me not replying (hehe), Id like to know how to fix this.
Oddly enough, after inserting the dual sim adapter into my Magician, they dont show up. They should be on the SIMs somewhere though
any ideas/ help would be great
never heard about any pocketpc phone which supported sms's stored on sim cards
i suspect that the whole api interface is limited to contact info
could be, but then how the fook did this occur in the first place?
Its odd enough like it is
maybe nokia and some others stray'd from the std sim std because sims started to have more and more memory and people dident need that much for contacts

Hi DMMH, sorry to go off-topic, but can you tell me where you bought your dual sim adapter? I cannot find conclusive posts on which types work and yours seems to work fine. Can you switch the SIM by an icon or do you have to turn flight-mode on and off? thanks in advance.
It would be possible to write a prog to read through all SMS records on the SIM card. Can't say I've ever tried it, but if stuff is saved on the SIM, it'll find em!
V
well if you can access the address's of the sim then yes
but you access the sim using some interface in the gsm module
then only if it support it

call history

When you go to option in call history, it give you the option NOT to delete call up to a year old...or never. I had mine set to never...but it still deletes the calls. it seems to only be keeping count for a week or two. is there any way to make this setting work?
Cant say i've noticed this since i've flashed my ROM so many times to test out the different Roms, lol.
However, one would presume that the registry entry for this would be the CallHistoryMax DWORD under HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone.
I have change my call History settings numerous times to test this theory but it has no effect on the DWORD value.
Anyone else have similar problems??
S.K.
i have 4 friends with the 8125, they all have the same problem. i too had this problem with my 8125...i was hoping it would go away with the 8525...but no luck. im thinking its something in the OS and not the phone. what you guys think?
any one? try it yourselves guys. this option never works

Interesting just looked at my call history and I suspect a sim card issue/setting may be the root of your problems.
The reason I say this is that my call history extends way back to January this year long before I even got the Hermes!! Info is therefore stored on the Sim. In addition there are gaps in the dates when I would certainly have made/received calls. This inconsistent recording of the info on calls I believe is related to whether the number dialled or received is recognized by the SIM the Phone memory or both. The longest remembered ones are obviously from the SIMs memory.
Not sure where this gets us exactly but my albeit inconsistent record certainly pre-dates this phone and back to my Motorola days.
Mike
funny you should say that. i just got a new sim card with the 8525...they gave me the 3g sim card. Thats kinda odd it would happen to two diffrent sim cards. i had 3 8125's and they all had this problem. now the 8525. the only phone it worked for was my ipaq 6515....and that was wm2003. It sucks because this is a reeeally good feture to have, you always have a number on file.

Yes it is strange. I don't think I'm suggesting any kind of fault on the SIMs. But you know how you can save tel numbers to SIM or to Phone - (I always forget which mine is set to) well I just wonder whether this has any bearing on where the call history is saved and or affects how long it is saved for. If it's the SIM and not the phone then there will be limits on storage space for the records. The question then is if it's the SIM which mine must be - how can it be changed to save on Phone memory for a longer record?
Sorry - more questions than answers!

Wallpaper change based on SIM switched on

I have a Vodafone's TWIN sim card in which I have 2 different numbers: professional number and private number.
I am not concious about what SIM I have switched on in every specific moments so I am spending my money in professional calls and viceversa.
Everytime I want to change from one number to the other I have 2 possibilities:
1.- Turn off and Turn on the Phone in Comm Manager and enter PIN
2.- Use STK Service, selece which number I want ot switch on and enter PIN
I have been searching for a long time a program that changes the Wallpaper (or that writes anything in the main screen) based on the SIM I have switched on so I can be aware about what is the current active SIM at every moment. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything yet.
Also, is there any program to turn off and then turn on the phone with just one click as I am using it very often? Something to switch between sims in a TWIN sim card without entering the PIN?
Could anybody give me any idea? Any program that could help me for some of the mentioned purposes? Any forum in where I could continue my search?
Thank you very much in advance...
for no pin just take the pin of the sim card from the sim card settings. A nokia phone may help you...
Is not there anybody who can help me a little more?
Thank you in advance.....

Duel sim

Im not really sure how duel sim works, i did a brief search but couldnt find the answer i was looking for.
I have a work phone and a personal phone. If the 6t has duel sim am i able to put the sim from my work and personal in it and receive calls and messages from each on the single device? Would i have to switch between which sim i want to use or can both be active at the same time?
Thanks in advance

What would be the point of having a dual SIM if you had to physically switch them? You can use them both evidently.

It's called dual standby.
Both are in the phone, one is the primary the other is secondary.
Primary has all functions including data. Secondary is only calls and SMS.
Primary/Secondary can be switched.

This is correct. If you want to read up on it Google DSDS (dual sim dual standby) DSDA (dual sim dual active). From everything I've read DSDA is less common these days and it required 2 imei's whereas DSDS only requires one imei. A lot of the switching is software based. Any further technical reading is beyond me.
It's great. You do have to pay attention though; it opens up a a new vector to text or call the wrong person when juggling multiple communications.
There are 2 IMEI on the 6t, meaning DSDA
I have some questions about dual sim also...Never used one before. We are considering getting a 6T for my wife because she has her personal phone (T-Mobile) and her work phone (AT&T) that she carries around everywhere. From reading these threads I understand how the calls and data work I think...You only get data on one at a time, but calls in or out on both. But what about contacts from two different carriers (T-Mo) and (AT&T)? Does it just bury them all together or does it separate the two to keep things apart? Thanks in advance for any insight on this and anything else I may need to know about using dual sims.

What do you mean about contacts from the two carriers?
Are they located in two separate google accounts?
Is one set on Outlook and the other on Google?
I'm using the phone on T-Mobile and Verizon and calls and SMS use intelligent routing/return based on the SIM the call/SMS was received.
You do need to turn on that option.
As far as contacts. If you have two Google accounts, I'm not sure.
My Outlook contacts stay in the app and when I dial them I use SIM2 as my personal contacts are Google and all are SIM1.
Hope that helps.

Thanks...It does kind of help, I guess when I'm able to actually see it I will understand it better. I was just worried about my wife's contacts personal and work getting all grouped together under one. Her work phone is Android also but I'm not sure if her work contacts are in the google account or outlook.

Using Red Pocket CDMA

Is anyone using Red Pocket CDMA? Will I have to contact Red Pocket for CDMA_LESS to have text messaging working? My 6t arrives today and I am beginning to wonder if it will even work with Red Pocket CDMA. I was going to put my activated sim from my axon7 into the 6twhen I get it and hope it works.
So I got the phone today. Data works but can't make or recevive calls/text. Waiting to see if Red Pocket can do anything.

You may need to program in the APN settings for texting and calls. I am unfamiliar with Red Pocket, but searched the APN settings for them:
https://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/red-pocket-mobile-apn-settings/
Hopefully this helps
Edit: I believe CDMA APN settngs are at the bottom of that link.

Thanks. The sim card needed to be replaced. Something about it locked to 3g or a 3g only card. It's all working now except for receiving sms messages. Redpocket has a ticket open to see if they can find a way to add CDMA_less provisioning.

Does Red Pocket use Verizon towers? If so theres been a few articles about a temp fix:
https://piunikaweb.com/2018/11/06/o...ng-issues-receiving-sms-mms-but-theres-a-fix/
Were you able to get the 6T to work completely with red pocket?
I'm attempting to use redpocket (CDMA/Verizon) as well. Sim card is activated and I get data service, but no voice or text. It won't let me change my APN settings. I guess I'll need to call them and get a new sim card like was mentioned earlier in the thread.
The op has the correct CDMA bands for VZW, but unfortunately they are not active. This is a shame as where I work sometimes, CDMA is only available. Not sure why the f CDMA is not active.
So I had the issue with no calls/texts, but data was working on redpocket (verizon version). I called their customer service and told them my symptoms and they got calls and outgoing texts working almost immediately without a new sim card. Apparently we can't update the APN settings because they're automatically fixed on the 6t. Incoming SMS still doesn't work. I asked about CDMA_Less setting, and got a hard "no". Who knows if that's the truth, but the tech I was talking to said it wasn't possible even after consulting his IT guy.
Good news! I was able to get Red Pocket to add the CDMA_LESS feature and now my phone is running smooth as butter! I had some issues so I will explain how I overcame those!
First I couldn't activate my voicemail. By activating this you are activating your phone pretty much. Every time I went to select 1 for English as my language it said I submitted an invalid choice. So I threw my sim in an unlocked iPhone SE and activated the voicemail. I then threw the sim back in my 6t and was able to do everything except receive texts.
So then I contacted Red Pocket. I wasn't expecting much but I let them know clearly that I could do everything except receive texts. I said I just needed the CDMA_LESS feature added. She said my iPhone SE was showing as active so she updated my IMEI on my account and then added the feature. So after restarting my device all is up and running!

Nice! I gave up 5 months ago trying to get the CDMA_LESS added by Red Pocket & switched to their 'AT&T' sim. Not as good as the VZW service, but at least I got texts. Maybe I'll try & switch back...
Thanks for letting us know its possible. Question When you activated the sim on the verison unlocked iphone. Did you enter the activation info again about sim and IMEI of the iphone. Or did you just pop in the sim and made the setup 1st call.
I just tried with a pixel 3 unlocked and I still cant get past activating the sim when I press 1 for English.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to know the answer. Failed to activate with a Oneplus 6T after 20 chats with CS. They said they activated cdma less but I still can't press 1 to activate. I also tried with my friend's iphone and it didn't work either. I now wonder if I need the cdma less deactivated to succeed activate with an iphone...
