I am working on a friend's Verizon Galaxy S5 running on a rooted Lollipop stock rom. The in-call photo is completely mess up. Let's say I have 5 contacts and 3 out of 5 have it's own contact photo (contact #1-3). When I look those 3 up on my contact, it shows their photo fine. However, when I make and receive a call from contact #3, it shows another contact photo. Below are what I tried but with no success.
1. Back up contacts to microsd card. Remove all contacts and uncheck sync with Google contacts. Imported contacts from backup to phone's contact. Still locked on that single contact photo.
2. Deleted that particular contact completely. Back up contacts to microsd card. Remove all contacts and uncheck sync with Google contacts. Imported contacts from backup to phone's contact. Still locked on that single contact photo.
3. Deleted that particular contact completely. Clear both contact data and cache via app setting. Imported contacts from backup to phone's contact. Still locked on that single contact photo.
Guys, any ideas on resolving this? I want to avoid a full factory reset on this if possible. Thanks in advance.

Hey all,
So I have the Rogers Dream, and whenever I go into my contacts app, it doesn't show any of my contacts. However, if I wanted to send a new text to someone, I can start typing a letter or whatnot and it will show their name and number perfectly. How do I go about correcting this issue?
Also, how come my dream won't sync to my PC? It only sees it when I activate the USB mode, I want to be able to sync my contacts over to my PC. How can I make this happen?
Thank you for your help!
Ok, on the phone open up the contacts app. Hit menu>edit sync groups. Make sure sync all contacts is checked. Hit ok. Menu>display group select all contacts and hit ok. If your contacts still dont show up then you need to get on your computer and log into your gmail account and check to see if you have contacts listed there. If there are no contacts there or not the right ones im guessing your contacts are on your sim card. If this is the case then in the contacts app menu>import contacts.
There is no real sync to pc option on the Dream. Your contacts, calendar, etc. are all synced automatically with Googles servers. If you want access to that info on your PC then you just have to log in to your gmail account and you can see your contacts, calendar, etc.
Hey thanks for the help with the contacts not showing up, I just had to change the view mode from All to Contacts with numbers and then back again. It must have been a glitch.
Anyways, since I can't sync them in the terms I am thinking, how can I send the contacts back to the SIM card? I have yet to see an option for that
I have my contacts displayed perfectectly just having gmail showing.
Now when I go to send message (handcent) I see duplicate numbers! Also only some numbers display the contact picture when it has a pic from facebook synced in contacts.
How do i fix this.
I had this same issue and I just deleted all of the contacts that were on my SIM... Might want to look into that.
This is a limitation of the underlying way in which touchwiz handles contacts. There is no way to limit contacts to just a particular label in Goog contacts. All contacts are shown. In the Contacts app, you can filter the listing somewhat, but when some other app or some selection dialog appears, all the contacts are shown.

probably the easiest, not sure about the only... They are really not needed on your SIM tho. Just make sure that any contact that is not saved to your google contacts is saved there before you delete it off your SIM.
ughh i deleted all the sim contacts still having the issue. I think maybe it was faceoobk issue so I mune settings accounts and sync and unsync facebook contacts but everything is stilll there.
I got contac2sim app to delete the sim contacts worked good. I saw that it says 479 contacts on left and 0 sim contacts....now i only have 211 contaacts in gmail.. there are no contacts on phone, so facebook must be doubling them
EDIT - The facebook contacts are linked actually wtf. If I click link contact them i go to link the same one that person not there..im goin crazy.
Figured most of it out
The contacts were deleted off the sim but phone didnt recongnize it until I shut it off and removed the sim card.
Once i put it back and it worked and contacts were cleaned up
i guess now the only thing would do is merge gmail and facebook contacts
anyone know how to do that
Whenever i flash a new rom Google automatically restores my contacts. Over time i have noticed that there are duplicate contacts. In fact each contact keeps adding more and more duplicate. I want to know how i can go and edit all those contacts so in the future i don't see all those duplicate and only see what i want. The other option would be to have Google not restore them. I have tried to go into settings and disable auto sinc when i flash a new rom but somehow after a few hours or a few days all the duplicate come back. I always export my contacts to my sd card and i would really just like to use that to restore. But again somehow when i restore the contacts from the sd card Google also restores them and i have tons of duplicate. I don't mind using Google to restore just in case one day my phone dies and i don't have a back up in my sd card. But i really have to find a way to go into Google and fix the back up they have.

You need to log into your google account from a computer and edit your contacts from there...also, when you go into your phone settings>accounts & sync, click on the email account that has all your contacts and it will give you a list of options of what you want synced, like contacts, mail, calender, etc. Uncheck contacts. This way you can still have auto sync on. Also when you are in your contacts app, there is a way to manage where your contact info is pulled from i.e. sim card, google account, phone, etc... again, select just the one place you want them imported from or merge the contacts if they are coming from multiple places.
In the end, though, the best thing for me was to spend the time to clean up my google account contacts so I could access the information from anywhere, on any phone, computer, etc. Then you don't have to worry about your sim or sd card crapping out, or losing/accidentally deleting a backup, etc.
Hello,
I am a new user of Galaxy S4 with Android 4.4.2 (first time Android user) and I have issues with the contacts how it is at present and wanted your help to get those resolved.
Note:
I have Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Skype, Exchange account, WhatsApp are synced in the device, but I have disabled Contact Sync for all of these. So now if I go to Contacts screen I can see only Device Contacts which is GOOD .
Issue 1: Search
When I search for contact in the contacts screen the search result includes contacts from Gmail, WhatsApp etc as well along with the device contacts. How can we get rid of these?
From where contact search pull these Gmail contacts even if those are not available inside contacts screen? Same happen when I search for contacts from Compose message screen.
Issue 2: Call Log
The Call Log by default include all Call Log and Message Log. We do have a View Filter where we can set ALL Calls Only and this is a temporary fix for the view to show only Call Log. Next time I open Log I see both of them. Is there a way I can fix this?
Thanks.
It's coz you must have previously synced your contatcs with Gmail / fb. Try deleting them all and adding them again from the backup. Also check the truecaller settings if any.

Thanks river-mystique, Yes when I setup the device with the Gmail ID it did auto synced contacts and later I disabled the Sync. So how can I remove all contacts and restore from backup? Or I need to factory Reset and Sync with Samsung Account? Also no True Caller.
Another question: If I factory reset and Sync with Samsung account (Where I have my contacts and SMS synced) and setup Gmail Again, will the device try to sync Gmail Contact again, as during device setup with Gmail there is no Option to disable Sync types. I think it is only available after the device is configured.
Thanks.
Seems like most of my contacts, which were saved only to the phone internally, has disappeared after I removed a secondary Google account (my brother's who borrowed my phone).
Weird thing is, if I search for the contacts, they show up, even ones that are not part of the call history. So, it seems like my original contacts are hidden somewhere. Only using default contacts app.
I also tried searching the directories for the contacts.db file but could not find it via the phone connected with usb to the pc. Phone is not rooted. All stock.
Odd that they are "still there" in some form... Have you tried exporting them to a vcf file and examining it off the device?

Strange. Looks like the contacts here hidden some how and could not be unhid. I exported all contacts to a vcf and luckily, everyone is there. I've since merged them onto Google Contacts so this does not happen again.
Does any one know how to stop Google Contacts from syncing Contacts that I have hidden on contacts.google.com. I don't want those contacts showing up on my phone or in the overall contacts list. So on contacts.google.com I made a label for all of these contacts and then "Hid" them all. Yet, they are still synced to the phone automatically.
