What do you guys think of this brand new bug? Peronsally as big as Google is they should have released patches about these bugs a long time ago...they have the money and the time to do that. Getting a newer version of android won't solve anything until bugs are fully squashed in the ecosystem in my opinion. To be honest it is also the manufactures fault for tweaking and putting different UI's in their phone's. If all androids ran stock linux android the world would be a better place!!!

LG promised yesterday to start sending monthly OTA security updates to in this regard.
In th mean time I advise you to do the following in order to minimise the risk of your LG G3 device being exploited by the Stagefright bug:
Open Messaging > Settings > Multimedia messages > uncheck the "Auto-retrieve" option.
This way it will not automatically open received links.

Any link about this???cause LG isnt very good about updates..
Here you go:
“LG will be providing security updates on a monthly basis which carriers will then be able to make available to customers immediately. We believe these important steps will demonstrate to LG customers that security is our highest priority,” an LG representative told WIRED today in an email.

I guess only time will tell!
35b hopefully contains a stagefright fix.

Thanks for the reply. With Sprint I might hold my breath. Besides that post on Sprint was a user, not an official thread. I want proof of the official thread not a pic of the thread. Proof is in the pudding. Not to be an ass. I seen this issue with other phones that got the very same issue on 2.2. No one had a fix just a work around and everything I seen was several months before Sprint published their Update for the Epic EB13. I know someone has a kernel or bluetooth fix out there. It is just going to take others to join in and help fix this issue.

In case you guys don't check the main WP7 forums on here, the Microsoft Nodo update is officially available and working. I am updating my phone right now as we speak.
All you have to do is plug your phone into your PC and use the Zune software to update. It should automatically detect and ask for you to update.

I checked at 3:50PM and still no update for my DVP Unlocked US T-Mobile.
Currently shows Your phone is up to date version 7.0 (7004)
just plugged in, no update yet. it is probably being pushed out in phases. cool that yours is updating, thanks for letting us know!
US DVP will most likely be LAST!
NO UPDATE YET GUYS. MY BAD.
I got some responses back from both the Microsoft Windows Phone Support and Dell Support. Microsoft says that they don't know when we will get it. Only that it will be before the end of the month. Dell support said that they don't know either.
This just boils down to the fact that for us here in the states, and as far as the Dell Venue Pro is concerned, the update release is in T-Mobile's hands.
I just want to know if it will fix the problems with wi-fi connections.
What's included in the update (emphasis mine), courtesy of Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/update-history.aspx
Microsoft said:
Here's a summary of what we've included in each update so far.
March 2011
OS version: 7.0.7390.0
•
Copy & paste. You asked for it—now it's here. Just tap a word and drag the arrows to copy and paste it on your phone. You can copy text from emails, text messages, web pages, and Office Mobile documents, and paste it anywhere you can type. To learn more, see Copy & paste.
•
Faster apps and games. Nobody likes to wait. That's why we've whittled down the time it takes for apps and games to start up and resume. It's all part of our focus on getting you to the things you love, easier and faster.
•
Better Marketplace search. We've streamlined Marketplace search to make it easier to find specific apps, games, or music. Press the Search button in the Apps or Games section of Marketplace and you'll see only apps or games in the results. Press Search in the Music section of Marketplace to search just the music catalog.
•
Other Marketplace improvements. We've improved the stability of Marketplace while you download apps. We've also improved the experience of downloading apps larger than 20 megabytes, upgrading from trial apps to paid apps, using a credit card with an address outside the United States, sharing links to apps via email, sorting Xbox LIVE games by release date, and creating an Xbox LIVE account from within the Games Hub.
•
Wi-Fi improvements. We now display your phone's Media Access Control (MAC) address in Settings. (You might need this info if you try to connect to a Wi-Fi network that uses MAC address filtering. To learn more, see Connect to a Wi-Fi network.) We've also removed the limit on the number of Wi-Fi profiles that you can store and reduced the time it takes to start your phone if you've stored lots of Wi-Fi profiles.
•
Outlook improvements. We've improved the experience of viewing iPhone photo attachments you receive from a non-Exchange-based email account (such as a Google Mail, Hotmail, or Yahoo! Mail account), using the Global Address List (GAL) when connecting to Exchange Server 2003 using Exchange ActiveSync, and working with email display names that contain brackets (for example, "David Alexander [Contoso]").
•
Messaging improvements. We've improved the experience of receiving Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages if your phone uses a PIN-locked SIM.
•
Facebook integration. We've improved the experience of syncing Facebook accounts.
•
Camera improvements. We've improved the stability of switching between camera and video modes.
•
Audio improvements. We've improved the experience of using a Bluetooth headset to make calls when you're playing music or videos.
•
Other performance improvements. This month's update also includes software from several phone manufacturers that improves the performance of specific models. Naturally, if you don't have one of the affected models, we won't install this portion of the update on your phone.

Thanks. So that would confirm that our update is being held hostage by T-Mobile.
And I was so excited to read the news on engadget's website, only to be disappointed...
I'm okay with getting late updates as long as I get one but I really hope DOJ does not approve the AT&T buying Tmobile. I HATE AT&T.

no access to registry...yet
Anyone with non-carrier DVP who is willing to volunteer to help in getting the nodo update un-branded?
Basically this is what i need:
A Non Carrier DVP which has not been updated to NoDo, but is eligible or being prompted for. (or) A Non Carrier DVP which has been updated to NoDo, but is willing to reset the device to have it updated again thru my steps.
What will i do:
The user needs to install Wireshark and capture the log for Microsoft servers and send me the same. I can then figure out the direct path to the download.
Let me know and i will PM the details.

Any idea if any future hacks would allow us to backup our text messages?
Why is it that we have to wait for T-Mobile to (eventually) give the ok for an update? Why didn't MS just make it so we plug our phones in, hit Zune update and everything does its thing?
Reading the Twitter updates about Euro T-Mobile pushing the update at the end of April is a little disheartening. There's no telling when US T-Mobile will push the update...
Hi,
We have not been able to replicate the battery drain and random reboot issue that several users have reported after the ICS update and subsequent firmware updates.
As such we are looking for a few volunteers here to run a custom logging problem and report back their results. The system needs to have either the random reboot or battery drain issue and cannot be rooted.
If you are willing to run this logging problem (very much appreciated) then please PM with the following information.
Name
Email Contact Information
Serial Number
Problem Description
Sincerely,
Gary
Update -
I will start sending out the logging file and instructions to the test group tomorrow.
The logging tool simply captures low level OS routines that might lead us to the source problem.
3/21/2012 Update -
The logging tool was delivered to the first control group tonight. I will send the tool to the second control group tomorrow. Thank you for your assistance and replies.
3/26/2012 Update -
Thank you for your assistance and log reports. R&D is working on them feverishly right now. I will send out the tool to a third control group shortly.
4/2/2012 Update -
First off, thank you for your assistance and log reports. We are still investigating root causes for some of the problems. As such, personnel from the three control groups might be contacted directly for a system replacement so we can further investigate the lockup problem. I will have an update later this week.
4/9/2012 Update -
Thank you for the continued log reports. We are working through all the data now within R&D and at NVIDIA/Google. As soon as I have word on a Firmware update I will post it here.
4/18/2012 Update -
We sent out a beta Firmware release to a few users for testing. So far, it has solved the problems these users have experienced but I am still waiting on a couple of test updates. We also received back a unit that had the random lockup and screen corruption problem and so far after 22 hours of testing no problems. If the balance of the test updates are positive, we will get this build qualified and releases ASAP.
4/24/2012 Update -
9.2.1.21 will roll out today in North America. This release addresses several of the random reboot and lock problems reported by a few users after upgrading to ICS. It also provides new functionality with WiFi-Direct, Unzip in File Manager, Restore Tab function in the Browser, and general performance/stability tweaks. Although we had a high success rate in the beta testing phase in solving the random reboots, there were a couple of users who still experienced it during deep sleep mode. We are having those systems returned to us for further analysis and regression testing with their particular setups.
5/3/2012 Update -
We will release 9.2.1.24 into beta testing shortly. This firmware contains new NV code based upon the beta test group who still had issues with .21. I will provide updates once the firmware goes out to the beta group but it did fix returned units that experienced random lockups after .21.
5/9/2012 Update -
I have been out with pneumonia but will have messages forwarded to the Customer Care Team. The .24 release is in final qualification testing and will be released shortly.
5/10/2012 Update -
The .24 release is approved and will be released in the near future.
5/14/2012 Update -
The .24 release should go to FOTA later today or early tomorrow. Please shutdown and perform a cold boot after updating.
5/15/2012 Update -
Bad news, Google has changed their CTS qualification requirements on firmware so the .24 release is delayed for a couple of days. We have asked for an exception to release earlier, especially since it already passed qualification testing.
5/16/2012 Update -
The .24 release should go to FOTA very shortly.
5/22/2012 Update -
Sorry for the delay, tried not to die from pneumonia last week after a relapse. I will start answering general questions again today and forwarding CSR events to the Service Team. Good news is that we have hired a full time employee to assist our Tablet owners in the Android centric forums. His name is Tien Phan and he is available here under the user name Asus_USA. He is part of our new Customer Loyalty Group and will be taking over forum coverage and assisting our valued customers. I will still be around, especially to handle technical problems and coordinate with Engineering until Tien is completely up to speed. However, as always, if you run into a problem that is not solved by our Service Group please feel free to contact me.
5/31/2012 Update -
We are working on another release with updated code from NV/Google. I will be in Taiwan next week to discuss this version and once a beta is available we will release it to a small group of testers. So far, this updated code based has worked extremely well on the TF201/TF300 in beta testing. As soon as I have an update it will be posted.
6/11/2012 Update -
We received additional code enhancements from NV/Google while I was in Taiwan last week. We will create a beta update shortly for testing and hopefully the next firmware update will occur in the next two weeks. I/O and Thread priority changes are the top two items and will address ANR and Sleep issues, however, still testing various application loads as some applications do not want to play nice with thread overrides.
7/4/2012 Update -
New .27 Firmware is released and addresses browser and ANR problems among other items. As always, after the update is complete, clear browser and system caches, shutdown and then power up.

I sent a PM. I would love to help test.
PM'd - Will happily run this tool if it will cure my list of bugs
Thanks Gary,
I also sent a PM.
I've definitely had all the random reboots, stuck in boot loop, battery drain, unresponsive touch screen issues since the ICS update. Everything was fine before that.
Hi Gary: Major kudos to you for reaching out to the community. This harks back to Asus' great efforts when the TF101 first came out, and I'm glad to see you've not forgotten us.
I'll be dropping you a PM; I have two TF101s and both suffer this problem at least once or twice per day, so it should be quite easy to get you a log.
PM'd, hopefully we can help. A bit frustrated with my transformer at the moment.

Android Application Enablement.
Effective May 16th, 2011 select AT&T Android devices will begin receiving OTA push updates enabling access to third party application stores. Currently AT&T requires that Android downloads come only from the Android Marketplace. This reduces the likelihood of malicious apps being downloaded. The push updates will allow select Android devices to load third party apps from other servers, links and/or SD cards.
Push updates will begin with the HTC Inspire, HTC Aria and Samsung Captivate. Additional Android devices and tablet updates coming soon.
The update is restricted to customers with Android devices on version 2.2 or greater.
Android devices launching on or after May 15th, 2011 will have the setting ‘Unknown Sources’ displayed in the menu and will not require the update.
Once the application sideloading restriction is removed using our Over the Air method, or for newly launched devices, we urge business users to download Applications from “Unknown Sources” only at the request of their IT or Telecom manager.
Source for above is from:
bizcommunity.att.com/t5/Android-OS/Android-Application-Enablemen/td-p/2350[/url]
I followed the below procedure that someone posted on how they were able to get the push granted its almost 1 year old.
You need to request it from AT&T business data support. Phone number 800-331-0500 select other issues and when you get a live person ask for business data support. When you get another live person tell them you need the android 3rd party push. You should be good to go after they talk you through to make sure the unknown sources option is available in your applications settings.
However for me this is what transpired:
I called and spoke with a very nice lady called Nikki in level 1 support who could not find such a department. She talked to her supervisor who also did not know of such a department nor of this push. I gave Nikki the original post mentioned above and she said let me see what I can find out. She finally talked to someone in her department who knew of this push and gave her guidance.
Long story short..
Later in the day Nikki called me back and said "this was once available but since the new phones come with allow from unknown source this was pulled and is no longer available".
I remember the big uproar when Amazon app store opened and many phones were locked from non market apps and under this uproar AT&T
came out with an OTA to enable allow from unknown source. For myself waiting this long to request the push only to find its been pulled is discerning.
At least there is an alternative: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109125.
Thats true. There are several ways that I am aware of. But my point was to show that within 1 year of allowing this push it was pulled.
BTW are the few issues with MMS and wallpaper resolved?
Does the US version of 34.4.A.2.19 for Android 8.0 support the fingerprint reader? I am using the UK version and very happy with the fingerprint reader but would prefer the US version.
No, the US version disables the fingerprint reader. May I ask why you prefer the US version? I'm using one of the Balkin versions here in the US and it works perfectly.
I have nothing specific to point to, but it has seemed like the security updates are going to the US version more quickly. Also, I have tried to get some response about the posting of "ads" in the Application section of Software Update (Booking.com and Prime Video currently) and my contact with Sony support always goes to UK support instead of US support. As I said earlier, nothing critical but more personal preference. Not worth abandoning the fingerprint reader though!
Have you perhaps noticed any limitations in group text messaging (no photos, or mass text message as opposed to true group messaging) or in text message formatting when a non-USA firmware is used?
---------- Post added 11-03-2018 at 12:10 AM ---------- Previous post was 10-03-2018 at 11:39 PM ----------
As I suspected, installing the USA firmware enables true group Messaging as opposed to Mass text messaging, and also allows the inclusion of photographs in group messaging. This is in the Xperia xz1 Compact, but I have no reason to suspect that it would be different with the X Compact.

I think the MMS status has changed to group. Looking at a history of a group that includes pics, in Dec 17 a message was treated as "Mass text" then in Feb 18, the note says "conversation is now a group MMS" so I think the group is now the status.
As I said previously, I am using the UK version.

I understand. I'm rooted and use an ad blocker so I don't really see many ads, and I've never needed to contact support. In that long thread about using the UK firmware there are some comments about using just the part of the firmware that enables the fingerprint reader but using the rest of the US firmware so the phone reports LTE instead of 4G, and a 5 bar RSSI instead of the 4 bar one that the UK one uses. I didn't really understand the process and it didn't matter to me so I didn't spend any time investigating it.
As for the other's question about MMS group messages vs. multi-texts I use Textra so MMS works as it should

If I go to Settings/System/Software update , There are two tabs: Application Updates and System Update. Under Application Updates there are currently two entries: On to install Booking.com and one to install Prime Videos. I currently have neither installed and am not interested in installing them. These were sent by Sony to via the system update process and appear if as they are required to keep the system up to date - otherwise they would just be in the Play Store. I am not willing to install and then silence the apps and I do not believe an ad blocker will stop these. In my opinion, bad move on Sony part to masquerade ads as system updates.
Oh yeah, I know what you are talking about. The "What's new" app. I froze that with titanium. There are lot's of positives for rooting and no negatives that I know of.
