Flashing dev firmware on retail device. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been thinking and noticed in a post that said if you flash the retail verson on a developer device it would lock the bootloader. So my question to the xda community is why dont we flash the developer edition firmware on the retail edition to unlock the bootloader

Google edition bootloader

Hey I'm sorry if this is a really noobish question. When the google edition gs4 is released would we be able to take an unlocked bootloader from it and flash it over the att stock bootloader, thus unlocking the phone?

No, not possible.

Att lg g2 d800 bootloader locked or unlocked?

Do we need to unlock any bootloader before rooting this device?
No you don't, since there is no unlock method for now. Just root it with the methods provided on xda, there are several topics about it. And install your choice of custom recovery, then u good to go.

[Q] {UCUFNB1} Would Odin work to flash?

I'm looking to flash custom Recovery's and what not. I just got the phone 5/2/14. The SGH-I337 on AT&T. Got the phone with 4.4.2 kk. Updated when update was available. Wanted to know if I could use Odin to flash things like any other Samsung phone.

You can not flash a custom recovery. The bootloader is locked. If you want to flash custom roms look in the general forum. Look for " index all things mk2 nb1"

Start here and read it all about 6 times. Rooting and putting a rom on the i337 with mk2 or nb1 is not for the faint of heart. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49562527

I'm on the same situation, just got my phone from AT&T (SGH-i337) with 4.4.2, now on baseband NC1, I would like to root the phone and it seems the only way is downgrading to NB1 and then downgrade again to MK2.
But I'm not so sure if it's safe to flash the roms having a SIM lock on my phone, is it necessary to unlock it before trying to flash?
Another noob question, a locked bootloader means I can't get CWM, but can I still install custom roms installable through Odin?
Sorry, No custom ROM's for locked bootloaders.

Nope. The only way to get a custom ROM would be to use safestrap.

What about the SIM lock? Do I need to get my phone SIM unlocked before flashing a stock ROM?

Sim Locking only restricts your phone to a particular carrier, it wouldn't interfere with a custom rom, as long as said rom was built for your carrier.

[Q] New ROM on Rooted Verizon GS5

I rooted my Verizon S5 yesterday with TowelRoot and want to put a new ROM on it because, lets face it, Touchwiz blows. Anybody care to explain to me how to do it? Thanks in advance.
You can't. The bootloader has yet to be unlocked.
Really? Damn that sucks. Can you explain that to me too? Please

What Is Bootloader?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-bootloader-on-android-phones-complete-guide/
Bootloader unlocking should not be confused with Android rooting.
Oooh okay, so just because the device is rooted, the bootloader is still locked. Also, just as the roots for each carrier's device is different, the bootloaders are as well?

Verizon Note 3 got bootloader unlock

I just found out that Verizon Galaxy Note 3 got an unlock bootloader. They have been in the same situation with locked bootloader like us, ATT Note 3 user. I just wondering is this procedure going to work with our ATT variant?
Link to original Verision Note 3 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...l/official-note-3-verizon-bootloader-t3359370
hey can anyone inform about it???for att note 3
It's my understanding that we would need a dev aboot to flash, I am by no means a vuln expert, but I wouldn't get too excited just yet. I think we have a large hurdle that the Verizon note 3 didn't have.

Has anyone had an issue with losing SD card space after this process? My 16 gigabyte SD card will only form at 2:15 megabytes now.. I bought a brand new one and went through the process again because I screwed up and had to flash back to stock.. The new card did the same thing.

Someone in the Verizon forum said messed with their partitions. Did you attempt this on an att note? I don't think it's supposed to work for us?

This seems to be the case.
The tool is able to change the CID on my ATT Note 3. However it's changing it to a verizon developer CID which is not recognized as a developer CID on our ATT model.
Verizon has an official developer model which is where they took the CID from. ATT has no such device so I've no idea where the creator will be able to get a valid ATT developer CID. Unfortunately I don't see this helping ATT models.
Offtopic, but does anybody oboe of a current root exploit that doesn't require downgrading?
Sent from my DROID Turbo using XDA-Developers mobile app
No, because of the locked boot loader in lollipop.
Down grading only adds about 7 minutes to the process so really not that bad.
An unlocked boot loader doesn't need a root exploit. You simply flash SuperSU. Downgrading means starting over. My wife isn't okay with that. Thanks though.

Is it the digital signing that is preventing the use of other aboot.bin t-mobile has mostly identical hardware couldn't we use the method used for the bump exploit to modify the signature and match the CID to the t-mobile aboot.bin
Unless the t-mobile and AT&T CID have the same checksums that shouldn't work. I think anyway #noob
