How to activate only part of screen (like Quick Window WITHOUT Case) - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use my phone as a cycling computer for my bicycle but don't like how the whole screen is used for something that can be minimized to 1/8 of the screen (ie. DigiHUD). I looked around for apps that allow you to only trigger some pixels of a screen but there are only screen dimming apps. Does anyone know if this has been done or is possible?

That would definitely do the trick minus the fact that the non-used screen is still on. Now I'm just being picky, I know (first off, thanks for pointing it out to me), but anyway of actually powering on only part of the screen itself? Is that what the QuickWindow case does?

The only display able to shutdown unused pixels is AMOLED
G2 has got IPS

That's right, I don't know why I was thinking AMOLED in my head; getting my phones mixed up. Thanks guys, was worth a try, will have to try out Mini View tho

I was using rltoday on my today screen and decided to change the refresh rate in the xml file to show seconds on the clock. As soon as i changed it my touchscreen failed. I have tried everything in the wiki to fix it if it was a screen alignment issue - but its not.
Can someone please help me?
I have:

Need more info. Is it just not touch sensitive is the screen blank, have you soft reset etc.
Mike
Its just not touch sensetive, i have soft reset. Someone told me to hard reset and now i'm stuck in the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile-based device". It won't acknowlege the tap.
Have you accidentally dropped it or anything to that effect??
Or is this literally just since you tweaked the clock refresh rate??
It's literally sine i tweaked the clock refresh rate. I havent dropped it or done anything else like that.
Joe
I probably need i new screen, don't i?
Thanks for your replies
Joe
try reflashing a new ROM in it if you ****ed with the clock speed that was stupid since i dont think at the moment there are any apps that properly clock the processor

I would just be cautious not to assume a screen fault as opposed to some other fault. If you are taking it for repair that's one thing but if you were thinking of replacing the screen yourself it might still not work.

Update!
My touch screen does work! If i hold the stylus in the top left corner of the screen and drag it down, the start menu appears. I can also go up and down in the settings menu. I have followed the instructions for screen alignment, hasn't made any difference.
Where should i go from here?
thanks
Joe
I have the same situation as you.
I took my x01ht to a repair shop. Touch screen replacement is not work.
The technician said that hermes uses Samsung CPU which integrates with touch screen controller.
In order to fix our problem, replacing the CPU(board) is needed.
Don't know whether that is true or not

Somehow get to the notes application and try drawing on the screen. This will let you know whether only the left side of the screen is working.
If you get weird shapes coming up then you'll just have to send it for repair as it's not as people often assume, just a screen problem.
EDIT: Hang on!!! How can you have done the screen alignment if the screen is not touch sensitive at the 5 crosshairs on screen??????

I've been stupid. the touch screen wasnt working, i was just pressing so hard it was pushing the keypads in. What an egit!

Bottom of screen (1cm) not touch sensitive with nav.

Hi all,
I dropped my nexus in water about a month ago, it didn't work for about 2 days and then day 3 it came out of rice and voila, it worked.. not a single issue, although the bottom of the screen where the nav buttons are, don't detect touch when the nav is visible, although when I remove nav and just touch the screen there, it acknowledges my touch.
Any thoughts? I've uploaded a video to explain a little more.
It's the same with stock rom, cm10.1 and pa.

(Edit) Didn`t read the last part correctly (sorry for that), try reflashing the rom you are on or a factory image to see if the problem remains.
It works when no navbar is there, but doesn't when a navbar is present? Sounds like a software issue to me.
I thought so too, but I believe it's the "multitouch" function that constantly enabled down the bottom.. as if something is already touching it, so it doesn't allow a second touch. Which is why I thought I'd take it apart and see if something is possibly doing that..

nav bar doesnt work
but with no nav bar it recognizes your touch, so just reflash the rom or another rom. simple as that.

now it's occur full screen.Sometimes it's just transparent sometimes mix color.
Rom-Icex 5.9
i can't flash rom....because now my display bottom side is fully black.bt touch is working.
Is that hardware or software issue?

The shopkeeper gave you a LCD with a faulty touchscreen. Always check if everything is working before you pay them.
But sometimes it might be software issue. I suggest you to try one thing, that is if you can flash a new rom, go ahead and do it, then see if the touchscreen problem still persists. If yes, then you have to replace it and get a new one.
Note that : the touchscreen panel stays on top and lcd on bottom, you replaced the whole thing that comes with the panel and lcd so theres no chance shopkeeper changed it, to remove the touch panel, you have to completely destroy it by applying heat and then slowly remove it.
Heres a video to clear it up on how to remove the touch panel : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTKV0RRv2IU

Can we avoid Ghost touch and Burn in?

Hi guys I got my phone 3 days ago and I'm completely in love with it but I see many people complaining about ghost touch and burn in effect (ghost scream or dead pixels), mine is just perfect, I avoid using my scream light more than 50% or use while charging but I'd like to know if we can avoid those problems that seem to be a regular in Moto G4 plus because we need support here in brazil we are lost hah
So are there any suggestion on how to save my phone of having any of those problems in a near future? thank you
@lexie90
Actually this problems can not be cured, just reduced...
Check which type of Display panel does your phone have.. [ https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...ntifying-lcd-panel-ghost-screen-burn-t3470472 ]
See result on 6th page..
Then after you see if you need to do anything or not..

Frankly saying, i never had any of both, i don't know how those apps work.. but i read from many one, screen burn can not be completely avoided, you can just reduce the effect.. most of them says to use "bluelight filter or similar app at ~15% value.. it will reduce the display performance, but as it's new phone and don't have any problems you can see at what lower % it looks fine...:good:

So I have a boe panel. Been experiencing Ghost Touches when connected to home theatre or Charger. should I change my display?
Note - since the MPJ24.139-63 update, Ghost touches have been reduced to 5 to 10 percent while charging.
Thank You.

The only problem I have are This ghost touches. They ain't severe, just happens sometimes when I connect the phone to a charger. Do you think they will get severe in future?
10 days down with this phone and no problems. I avoid using while charging and always use low light, as for now its working, hopefuly as mine is made on 12/16 motorola fixed this thing up

Well I am happy for you bro. BTW what Charger do you use?
Have you tried charging with a different Charger?
I face the same issue of ghost touch (since the beginning of when I bought the phone)... However the only workaround I could get is that now I use a power bank to charge.. I guess it's the AC supply that's causing some grounding issues to ghost touch... power banks have DC output so I don't face any ghost touches with this..
OK, so I am unfortunately also a prey to screen burning , leaving screen burns all over the display during heavy usage.
solution : install blue light filter (hardy-infinity) from play store
After installing, select black colour as the filter colour option and set transparency/opacity to 3% ,. Done !!!! No more screen burns ! Enjoy??

Screen weirdly split in two

Hello guys !!
So I just discovered my screen doesn't work well anymore. Nothing is broken and my phone didn't fall or anything, but now when I scroll my screen it's split in the middle of the screen.
For example when I scroll down my screen the right part follow my finger, but the left part is a bit late. There is a time lag everytime. I can see this disconnection when I'm watching videos too and that's really annoying. Also sometimes my screen goes black for few seconds and comes back to normal.
I tried to turn off and on my phone but it didn't change anything, restart it either. I'm not really good with technology so that were the only manipulations I tried. I don't know why my screen is like that. The only thing I can think is that the day before my phone turned off by it self because there was no more battery.
Please can you tell me if something like this happens to you, and if yes what did you do to fix it ? Or if anyone has a solution for me, I would be really grateful.
Thank you in advance.

Hey ! Thanks for your answer.
No I didn't install any apps at all lately. I did factory reset and it didn't fix the problem
But it's a bit better, it seems the screen doesn't go black anymore, but there is still the disconnection in the middle. Especially when I'm looking at videos or when I want to make picture.
I don't know what can be the problem
Try to squeeze the phone with your index finger and thumb, a half an inch besides the spot between the volume switch and power switch. There is an internal screen connector there that can get a bit loose

Thanks for your answer Waancho ! I tried your solution but it didn't work either. But now I think I might know why my screen is like that. One night I fell asleep listening music on my phone and when I woke up it was totally discharged. I could urn it off, I had to charge it a bit first. When I turned it on the screen was split and the left part of the screen was higher than the right part. I know it isn't good to let the battery discharged completely.... ?
Do you think the battery is damaged ? If yes, is there a way to fix it ?

the battery has nothing to do with it. the display connector gets loose and does this all the time. Fortunately it never happened to me but i've seen more than 10 people with this problem
here's a couple pics for ya, the best solution is to take it apart and secure it but if you never did it then just push upon the screen, where my finger is pointing, about half or 1 cm from the side
