[Q] Need Help with TitaniumBackup screw up please. Anyone. - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 SM-T330NU KitKat 4.4.2
Sister borrowed by tablet on a study abroad trip and took it upon herself to root it. it was rooted successfully using Odin 3.10.6. she then installed TitaniumBackup Pro and started to uninstall things. in an effort to rid the tablet of bloatware, she probably deleted something important. When booted, tablet will stick on Samsung screen. So i factory reset. this goes smoothly, but right after the initial setup, i can see the notification bar if there is a notification present and can access the multi window thing at the bottom but no home screen. I also get an error saying "Unfortunately, Samsung Knox has stopped". When i am in settings or anything else and press the home key the screen just goes black. almost as thought everything else it there, its just missing the home screen. I flashed 2 different stock ROMs, and 1 pre-rooted ROM with Odin, and factory reset after and the same thing happens.

First try a factory reset in recovery not rom
in philz goto > wipe and format options > Factory reset and reboot
if no go then
Try formatting data,
adb pull all you important stuff off of tab first
then
in philz recovery goto > wipe and format options > wipe user media
twrp has a similar functions but i don't know where they are
then reflash an official release

cannot operate the tablet to install philz

(Wasnt really clear on m y first reply, sorry.)
also, on attempt of flashing just downloaded stock ROM, Odin is telling me to get a PIT file, which are very specific to the device, but i cant seem to find one for the SM-330NU. Delete cache and factory reset done before i even tried flashing. Same result. the data is gone and ive made peach with that. I just want it to work at this point. as i cannot access the home screen, cannot install philz.

Philz is a touch version of Clockworkmod recovery (a custom recovery); you can install the tar file with Odin with the tablet in download mode. Alternatively you can use TWRP (a different custom recovery) instead of Philz, whichever you prefer

I went to the TWRP developer site and could not find a version for my model. Found your post of Philz downloads and got 6_58_9 final recovery and flashed it. flash said successful in Odin, but when i tried to reboot into recovery mode i see the "Recovery Mode: in the upper left corner for a split second, then it automatically jumps into download mode and says "Could not do normal boot" right above where it says Odin Mode.

We have a winner! Thank you so much for the links. You saves my sister's life. Literally. I appriciate your time.

Edit: sorry didn't see that last post

The TWRP links posted by user badusenamechoice seemed to have worked. I truly appreciate your time and energy helping me out. I am a computer nerd from waaaay back, but I'm still learning the world of Android modding. So, thank you for you patience in explaining things to me. Even if it hadn't been fixed, its nice to know theres a forum out there with knowledgeable folks, should I eff it up myself. You are a gentleman and a scholar, sir.

[Q] SGH-i377 stuck on Cyanogenmod logo

Hello,
first I'd like to say that since the first day, I really....hate my Galaxy S4, this is probably the phone I hate the most actually. This is why I wanted to get rid of this stupid stock ROM (who the hell wants all this preinstalled on his phone ?!)
I flashed it from the CWM Rom manger with Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and it's been stuck on the CM logo since 3 hours, I tried entering into recovery mode, but it boots on the stock recovery.
Please, help me..
You can fix this. You have to reflash stock firmware again since something clearly went wrong and you cant do anything.
1. Download Odin ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 )
2. Download the stock ROM image ( http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-I337 ) Large File. Unzip the file to get the .tar.md5 file you will need.
3. Download and install Samsung Kies (Installs Drivers)
4. Boot the phone into "Download Mode" (From http://www.ninjaromeo.com/download-mode-samsung-galaxy-s4/ for i9500 but same procedure)
Unplug phone
Switch off your Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 Android Smartphone.
Now press and hold “Volume Down + Power + Home” buttons together for a little bit of time.
After appearing Samsung logo release the buttons.
Then you will move on to Warning page.
Read the warning before going to proceed.
As the given on screen instruction, press Volume Up button to enter into download mode.
The you will see the page with Android logo and “Downloading, Do not turn off target!!”
If you don’t want to move on download mode, just press Volume Down button in the proceed page.
5. Plug Phone into PC. Open Odin. Select "PDA" and point it to the large firmware file that you downloaded that has a .tar.md5 extension.
6. Click "Start". This will reflash the stock recovery and firmware. It will retain your Data partition. Odin will inform you when it's done. Then close Odin.
You now have a functioning phone. Yay!
Backup everything you need to back up from your data partition to your PC or a microSD card.
If you want to Flash CM10.1
first run this,CASUAL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297900
It will install TWRP Recovery. Just like CWM but touch. No difference to me has all same features. It installs easier so I used it. It will also root the device and perform the Loki trick to get it to boot and bypass the locked bootloader. RUN IT and follow the instructions laid on in that post word for word and you will get everything working.
So! Now you have a working recover! Yay!. Boot up into Android.
Download the latest CM10.1 Nightly from here. http://get.cm/?device=jflteatt&type=nightly
Download Latest Google Apps from here http://goo.im/gapps
Copy it to your phone. Preferably a mcroSD card.
Reboot to recovery. Go to Install. Select that CM10.1 file and install it.. (Choosing external SD card if you saved it to a microsd). Repeat for the Google Apps zip file.
When done, wipe Data, Cache, Dalverik Cache from the menu in recovery, sometimes under Advanced.
Reboot.
Working CM10.1.

Try the emergency restore / recovery option in Kies. I have never done it but many people have had to after a bad flash. Not sure how you lost your custom recovery. I had issues with a rom I flashed and for stuck at boot but my recovery was fine so I restored my nandroid.
Try wiping your Data partition. Should fix that. Just hook the device up to a computer and copy your stuff off it first. Stock firmware was restored so any lingering problems would be related to stuff in the Data partition. Should be able to boot the stock recovery and do a factory reset which will also wipe the data partition.
As mentioned above you dont need the whole Kies suit. You can just install USB drivers. To make it simple as possible I stated using Kies but you can obtain the drivers elsewhere and install them rather than the whole Kies suit.

and while flashing the firmware using odin and pit do check re-partition also
Note with out pit file do not check the re-partition box
and once the flashing is done device should boot if its not booting
go to stock recovery like how i told u earlier and do factory reset and wipe cache
and reboot

Based on what you said, it seem like you still have all the partitions intact. Just that they are empty right now.
Did you do a full backup before all this problem happen? Or did you do a custom backup?
Are your backups stored in external memory and is a full backup? If so, try using custom recovery to restore your backup?

Chill. Your phone is definitely not bricked. I encountered your problem before when i was experimenting with something.
- Right now, boot to whatever recovery that you have. Try to wipe cache, dalvik, and any other partition if possible.
- After that, boot to download mode and try to flash STOCK rom using odin. Check that flash was success.
- Try to boot your phone and report here on what happens.
Edit: You might want to consider restarting your computer and changing usb port. "Faulty" Usb port will affect the flashing part.

Behave your speech smart guy, they are trying to help!
general rule on how to fix a bootloop:
1- Wipe data and cache. If not,
2- Restore a nandroid backup if available. If not,
3- Flash stock firmware, If not,
4- Flash stock firmware with pit file (you can try pit file alone).

[Q] Soft bricked Samsung Note 3 N9005

Hi,
I was recently given this samsung note 3 (32 gb) by a friend to fix it.
It was on running on O2 (UK) not sure of FW version, while doing an OTA battery died and the phone is stuck on the download screen.
I have been trying to resurrect it since last 5 days and no luck :crying:
I have gone through 5-6 different threads on XDA and tried out different options outlined there....Most of the time it failed (while installing CWM recovery using ODIN, installing superSU and running the boot loop fix.zip all failed ).
Current status:
I was able to get the O2 4.3 version installed on it (N9005XXUENB4_N9005O2UENB1_O2U) by using PIT file (from one of the thread) and selecting FW in AP of ODIN and selecting these options Re-partition, Nand Erase and Phone EFS Clear
Phone boots up, shows O2 logo and then SAMSUNG and then throws series of errors
1) Unfortunately, Samsung setupwizard has stopped, Press OK
2) Go to initial setup screen, selected English (United Kingdom) Press Next and it reboots
3) Sometimes it goes to next screen and starts wifi scanning and then freezes and reboots
I am totally lost, would really appreciate if you can help me revive this phone. I am okay installing custom ROM
(not worried about Knox, its already 0x1 after i tried CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005)
Please help.

You still having Lollipop Bootloader. What you have to do is:
1. Download the latest firmware for your device: HERE.
2. Flash it via ODIN like in the pic attached. I add the .PIT file too of your 32 GB device.
3. Take out the battery when the process finish (10 sec.). Put it in again.
4. Reboot in Stock Recovery and wipe data/Factory reset and wipe cache partition. "Reboot system now" then.
Thanks Joku for helping with the files. Followed all the steps and process completed successfully.
After recovery and wiping and rebooting the phone.....
phone reboots after one or sometimes 2nd second screen of initial setup (with those seemingly random "Unfortunately...." error messages)
Pics attached. Any ideas.

1. Flash TWRP via ODIN -> HERE.
2. Boot in TWRP and Wipe System. Reboot in DOWNLOAD MODE.
3. Flash again the firmware GNG1 normally like in the pic attached.
TWRP installation successful....wiped cache and restarted in download mode and installed fw again.
Phone reboots and goes to setup screen but again goes through series of messages and then freezes.
please advice.

I think you miss understood me. I will explain myself again:
1. First step is unnecessary coz you have installed TWRP. Follow next step then.
2. Boot in TWRP and select WIPE -> Advanced Wipe -> only mark SYSTEM-> Swipe to WIPE (like in the pic attached). Go BACK and BACK again and click REBOOT - DOWNLOAD.
3. Flash again via ODIN the firmware GNG1 normally like in the pic attached.
Thanks much for your patience.
Followed the instructions...installed twrp again as it was replaced with stock recovery when i had installed the fw in previous attempt.
Wiped system and reinstalled the fw, however end result is unchanged.
Phone started in the setup wizard and popped "Unfortunately, Google play newstand has stopped" and then froze on that screen.
tried rebooting after removing the battery and this time error message "Unfortunately, S Voice has stopped"
Hi Joku1981,

The problem becomes here: I was able to get the O2 4.3 version installed on it (N9005XXUENB4_N9005O2UENB1_O2U) by using PIT file (from one of the thread) and selecting FW in AP of ODIN and selecting these options Re-partition, Nand Erase and Phone EFS Clear

* You can try go to TWRP and click Advanced -> Fix permissions. Reboot system then and see what happens. I'm out out ideas coz using Nand Erase your device becomes a paperweight. I'm sorry but I can't help you more. Good luck :fingers-crossed:

Tried fix permission option and on reboot got these two messages and
Unfortunately, Internet has stopped
Unfortunately, Messages has stopped and phone froze on the initial setup screen.
With so many threads on xda on this topic, i thought it would not be this difficult to fix this phone :'(
I am so bummed

Blocked on TWRP presentation Page

Hi, I rently bought a Galaxy S7 Edge and i wanted to install the SUPERMAN custom ROM so :
I followed the tutorial to root the phone => ok
the tutorial to install TWRP => OK
Then the tutorial to install the ROM, and thats when the problems started to appear.
When I tried backing up before the installation in TWRP, I had a couple of error message like "unable to mount data". As the phone was new, I did not have any personnal data on it I thought "Backup is not necessary (grave error?)
so I skiped and went directly to ROM installation (the ROM was on an external microSD card) => installation OK
BUT I forgot to wipe Dalvik cache before rebooting, and as i understand it, it can cause a bootloop, it apparently did!
Here, as it was late, I started to lose my cool, so I am not entirely sure about the sequence of what I have done, but I am trying my best to be precise so that you can find a way to help me.
- I went back to TWRP, I tried to wipe dalvik cache and other types of wipe, but had the same error "unable to mount data" on every try.
-I googled a little bit and found a video tutorial ecplaining that I need to wipe => advanced wipe => tick system => change file system => then choose a type (i chose exFat) => It went on for 10-15 minutes without any sign of evolution so I reached the peak of my stupidity (really lost my cool), and forced reboot (not sure if I used volume UP or DOWN
-I dont think I did anything else after this, when I tried going into TWRP, I got stuck on the TWRP presentation page
The phone starts normally in download mode (am I saved?)
But it does not completely start in TWRP mode, it gets stuck on the presentation page (where there is the name of the team and the version number)
I tried installation other versions of TWRP with Odin but I still get stuck on the presentation page, although the version number changes adequatly to the version installed.
Please help me! :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
thank you.
Good news, is yes you can restore your device. Download your stock rom , unzip and flash in odin.
The is a dedicated thread on XDA for TWRP, in the steps the is a no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip which you should download.
Once you reach twrp again you should swipe to allow mod, then click on wipe, format data and type in yes when prompted.
After which flash the zip mentioned above. Now you will have access to the system in twrp, and flash whatever rom you like.
trust this helps

Best of luck buddy.
It worked thanks a lot man!
Now, onto the next step, I guess the tutorial I followed initialy was not good enought. So where can I get this "no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip", and how should I install it exactly? Unless I missed something, it is not explained in the xda tutorial

I Followed the instructions of your link, then I followed the instructions of the tutorial to install SuperMan ROM bug at the last reboot (after installation) I got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Edge 7" screen, the starting screen...
Hope I can install this ROM, I dont want to go back to stock.
Have you updated the modem and bootloader as dev instructed?
First initial boot will take time , remember you wiped everything but you Internal storage and SD card.
"9. Reboot and wait around 10 minute's (deodexed roms need longer to boot the first time)
10. Don't interrupt the process of booting the phone, even when it restarts"
How long did you leave it on the Samsung S7 Edge screen?

Yes I followed the instructions and downloaded the too exact files he said, flashed it with odin
I wiped everything (even internal storage) but micro sd card
I left it more than 30 minutes.
One thing I did I'm not sure about, during root, I followed the tutorial (the link you gave me) to root and install twrp, during this step, I flashed both superSU and dm verity... step 11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/recovery-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084 ) Is that ok?
My method, that works for me is as follows :
Flash my stock firmware via odin.
Boot up, select OEM and USB debugging on.
Flash latest TWRP in odin.
Boot up phone, then switch off and enter recovery.
In recovery page i swipe to allow mod, select wipe /format data and type in yes when prompted.
Then , flash the no-verity zip.
I then boot up the phone normally and let it settle for about five min, switch off and get back into TWRP.
Now there shouldn't be any red error msg's in TWRP of cant mount. ( That is important ) otherwise rom wont flash properly.
After which i will flash a rom, most custom stock roms already have SU.

Exactly what I did except for the SU part that i mentionned. i asked on another Forum, they said there might be a problem with the zip I used. So i'm gonna try downloading a new zip for this ROM, but i can't find any alternative links...
I redownloaded the zip from the link in the tutorial, it worked!! thanks for your help!

SM-J510FN Dual Sim Stuck in TWRP recovery mode

Can anyone help, I rooted my phone last year and installed TWRP as part of the process, I did a backup at the time which I have on my SD card
the phone is stuck in the TWRP recovery mode, I can restore from my backup and it goes through fine but then goes back into recovery mode.
This all started when I tried to reset the phone back to factory defaults. I guess I wiped everything. Has anyone got any ideas how to get out of this.
I am not too familiar with TWRP, if anyone could point me in the right direction with a simple step by step guide it would be most appreciated.

I did try that, I found a ROM j510fnxxs2aq14_j510fndbt2aq14_dbt.zip with size of 1,379,794Kb
when I tried to install it I get a failure could not find META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary in the zip file
Error installing zip file /external_sd/j510fnxxs2aq14_j510fndbt2aq14_dbt.zip
Which is why I asked for a bit more detailed advice on my problem. If you could point me in the direction of a suitable

I have tried several custom roms non of which work. What I don't understand is why when I restore from my one and only backup
it all goes through ok the size is 6036MB it reports restoring 7 partitions
then restoring boot then restoring data, at the end of it I get restore ok then it goes back to the TWRP recovery screen.

Is your stock rom android 5 by any chance?
I don't know what my stock rom is, I can't access anything on my phone apart from the TWRP recovery screen
I do have another SM-J510FN which was bought at the same time which hasn't been rooted running Android 7.1.1
I don't know if that would help to determine what the stock rom is.

I went into the TWRP recovery mode then to Wipe hoping to do a factory reset, that went through ok and came back into the TWRP recovery mode
I then tried Advanced wipe and ticked all the boxes except micro SD card. Nothing could get me out of the recovery mode so then I tried a restore from
an old backup and that seemed to go through ok, but it still came back to the recovery mode.
If it was me, I would remove the back cover and via TWRP menu turn off phone.
As soon as the screen goes black, remove battery.
Insert battery and power on and see what happens.
Have you tried that? Or how do you turn it off?

Okay... when screen goes black have you tried to quickly start pressing the key combination to enter download mode?
For my J500 it's Volume down + Home key + Power (keep pressing until download screen appears) should be same for J510.
If you can enter download you have the option to use Odin and flash either a stock ROM or a newer Recovery.
If you want, you could:
Advance wipe, everything except SD card and OTG Usb. (How much was backed up? Did you tick all boxes?)
Format Data
Restore backup from SD card again
Advance wipe, tick only 2 boxes, Dalvik + Cache
Restart
Report back
Oh, and just to clarify... when you manually go to Restart in TWRP, no matter what option you choose, the phone restarts into TWRP again?
Bare with me, I'm trying to understand and help.
Thats the problem, I can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode so am not able to use Odin, I presume when I did my original backup
I didn't tick all the boxes because it goes through a recovery with no problem I presume the boot sector is missing.
From the TWRP recovery mode I am able to go to install and select a previously downloaded file but then it fails.
I have searched for a suitable ROM to download but am struggling to find one for my phone
Ok, what TWRP version do you have?

You can update your TWRP with a newer version from here:
https://twrp.me/samsung/j5xnlte.html
(Carefully check that I linked to your model!)
.img is what you want to put in your phone. BUT... I haven't done this myself, so it's your call.
In TWRP you choose to install img and locate the file on your SD card.
My thought is that your TWRP is too old for the ROMs you have tried... (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong).

You can. There is an option to reboot download mode from twrp (might be reboot bootloader)
That will put the device into download mode and you can flash with Odin.
Alternatively you could go to advanced wipe and wipe everything like you already did and then just flash a custom ROM. You wiped everything you said and then tried to reboot. That's why it went to twrp because you wiped system, there is no system to boot anymore.

Wow, that worked, I updated the version of TWRP and then installed a ROM that I downloaded "resurrectionremix-5.8.4-20190821"
and all seems to be working, both sims are recognised and operational all I need now is to get my head around the UI apart from that everything seems
good. Thank you everybody who helped me through this. I almost got to the point of binning an otherwise good phone.
Once again a big thankyou to everyone.
