Blocked on TWRP presentation Page - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi, I rently bought a Galaxy S7 Edge and i wanted to install the SUPERMAN custom ROM so :
I followed the tutorial to root the phone => ok
the tutorial to install TWRP => OK
Then the tutorial to install the ROM, and thats when the problems started to appear.
When I tried backing up before the installation in TWRP, I had a couple of error message like "unable to mount data". As the phone was new, I did not have any personnal data on it I thought "Backup is not necessary (grave error?)
so I skiped and went directly to ROM installation (the ROM was on an external microSD card) => installation OK
BUT I forgot to wipe Dalvik cache before rebooting, and as i understand it, it can cause a bootloop, it apparently did!
Here, as it was late, I started to lose my cool, so I am not entirely sure about the sequence of what I have done, but I am trying my best to be precise so that you can find a way to help me.
- I went back to TWRP, I tried to wipe dalvik cache and other types of wipe, but had the same error "unable to mount data" on every try.
-I googled a little bit and found a video tutorial ecplaining that I need to wipe => advanced wipe => tick system => change file system => then choose a type (i chose exFat) => It went on for 10-15 minutes without any sign of evolution so I reached the peak of my stupidity (really lost my cool), and forced reboot (not sure if I used volume UP or DOWN
-I dont think I did anything else after this, when I tried going into TWRP, I got stuck on the TWRP presentation page
The phone starts normally in download mode (am I saved?)
But it does not completely start in TWRP mode, it gets stuck on the presentation page (where there is the name of the team and the version number)
I tried installation other versions of TWRP with Odin but I still get stuck on the presentation page, although the version number changes adequatly to the version installed.
Please help me! :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
thank you.

Good news, is yes you can restore your device. Download your stock rom , unzip and flash in odin.
The is a dedicated thread on XDA for TWRP, in the steps the is a no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip which you should download.
Once you reach twrp again you should swipe to allow mod, then click on wipe, format data and type in yes when prompted.
After which flash the zip mentioned above. Now you will have access to the system in twrp, and flash whatever rom you like.
trust this helps

Best of luck buddy.

It worked thanks a lot man!
Now, onto the next step, I guess the tutorial I followed initialy was not good enought. So where can I get this "no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip", and how should I install it exactly? Unless I missed something, it is not explained in the xda tutorial

Thank you all

Follow these instructions, the links for the latest recovery and the zip I mentioned are all there. If you need further help. I will help.

I Followed the instructions of your link, then I followed the instructions of the tutorial to install SuperMan ROM bug at the last reboot (after installation) I got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Edge 7" screen, the starting screen...
Hope I can install this ROM, I dont want to go back to stock.

Have you updated the modem and bootloader as dev instructed?
First initial boot will take time , remember you wiped everything but you Internal storage and SD card.
"9. Reboot and wait around 10 minute's (deodexed roms need longer to boot the first time)
10. Don't interrupt the process of booting the phone, even when it restarts"
How long did you leave it on the Samsung S7 Edge screen?

Yes I followed the instructions and downloaded the too exact files he said, flashed it with odin
I wiped everything (even internal storage) but micro sd card
I left it more than 30 minutes.
One thing I did I'm not sure about, during root, I followed the tutorial (the link you gave me) to root and install twrp, during this step, I flashed both superSU and dm verity... step 11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/recovery-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084 ) Is that ok?

My method, that works for me is as follows :
Flash my stock firmware via odin.
Boot up, select OEM and USB debugging on.
Flash latest TWRP in odin.
Boot up phone, then switch off and enter recovery.
In recovery page i swipe to allow mod, select wipe /format data and type in yes when prompted.
Then , flash the no-verity zip.
I then boot up the phone normally and let it settle for about five min, switch off and get back into TWRP.
Now there shouldn't be any red error msg's in TWRP of cant mount. ( That is important ) otherwise rom wont flash properly.
After which i will flash a rom, most custom stock roms already have SU.

Exactly what I did except for the SU part that i mentionned. i asked on another Forum, they said there might be a problem with the zip I used. So i'm gonna try downloading a new zip for this ROM, but i can't find any alternative links...

I redownloaded the zip from the link in the tutorial, it worked!! thanks for your help!

If you have download mode (completely turned off phone, the VOL UP and insert cable would boot you there) and flash stock ROM with flashtool to return to stock.

Custom rom for note 3 Help required.

Yes, you can flash back to a stock Samsung ROM using Odin. I recommend downloading the stock ROM and keep it on your computer so you can flash back to stock when required.

Well I tried to use that rom but I had some problem with that due to which I got to reflash stock firmware. Whenever I tried to install rom using TWRP my phone rebooted and get stuck on note 3 logo.
Friends, I was unable to install Phronesis rom. The steps that I followed are given below.
1) Downloaded Phronesis v6.2 rom from OP and copied it to SD Card.
2) Booted into TWRP recovery.
3) Selected "Wipe" option in the recovery menu.
4) Selected Advanced wipe.
5) From this menu I selected system, data, cache and delvit/art cache.
6) After selecting above options I swiped to wipe.
7) After this I went back to main recovery Menu.
8) From recovery menu I selected Install.
9) From here I chose Phronesis v6.2 rom from SD card storage.
10) Installation started and a bar started to load on the bottom of screen.
And after a few seconds (10 to 30 sec) my phone restated and stuck on note 3 logo.
At the end I didn't have any option but to re-flash stock firmware using odin.
It is the horror story of my note 3.
Please tell me where I have done wrong.

1. Boot into recovery (say TWRP) Please read Q&A re TWRP .
2. Select wipe in recovery menu
3. Select Advanced Wipe
4. From the resulting window, select to wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache (of course after backing up your rom / data)
5. Swipe to wipe the selected partitions.
That's recovery wipe completed.
Recovery install zip .
In Aroma menu when you get to option to wipe, select:
1. Select "Full Wipe" radio button
2. Select "Full wipe 1" radio button
3. Select your CSC as desired
4. Continue making other choices as you like....
Sir i am trying to follow this guide given in OP in Phronesis Rom thread. I successfully followed this guide till recovery wipe. But unfortunately it is not going into aroma installer.?
Then its a failed download of the rom .
Install zip should lead to a start of the rom install and aroma with options .
Suggest you stop posting multiple threads its to hard to follow .

Thanks. And sorry for multiple threads. I will download that rom again.
Should I put rom file in internal memory of note 3 or I should put it in SD card?
SD Card .
Tried by redownloading the rom but still I can not enter aroma installer.
What is MD5?
The lollipop that I am currently installing my note 3 is "N9005ZSUGOL1_N9005OZSGOL1_N9005ZSUGOL1_HOME.tar.md5" via odin.
Is there any other way to make my stock rom more significant without installing custom rom?
Upgrade is almost complete. I will root soon after completion.
After trying many times, I don't want to install this rom anymore. Thanks every one for help. XDA is really amazing.

please bro could u tell me more about this way
First, go to the link provided https://samsungodin.com/ I would download V310.6 personally.. It must be run in a Windows Enviorment IE. Win 7, Win 10 etc. Put you phone into download mode Volume down, home button, the power button all at the same time. Plug your USB cable into a USB port on your computer, and plug in your phone. Unzip Odin, then open and right click Icon, and run as administrator.. Put TWRP. zip in the AP slot. Under options in Odin uncheck reboot and reset, hit the start. When it says pass, unplug your phone, pull battery. But battery back in. Then hold Volume up, home, and the power button, and your phone will start in TWRP recovery.

TWRP is the custom recovery you flash in Odin, to replace stock recovery. You need that to install custom roms and mods.
Go to this link https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ I would download 3.0.2-1-ktle.img.tar. to your desktop. Open up Odin uncheck reset, and reboot. Place phone in download mode Volume down+home+power. Open up Odin choose AP find your file and insert, then hit start. When done pull battery, but battery back in then Volume up+Home+Power and you will boot into recovery.

Flash TWRP first in Odin.. Then what ever Rom you use, will already have root (some dev's might require you to install root as well separate from the ROM you use).. Put the ROM of your choice on your External SD card. Go to recovery wipe cache dalvik/cache, system, data, internal storage. This is why you but the ROM of your choice on a External sd card, because you will wipe the internal storage. Flash ROM and reboot.. Now of course follow the dev's install instructions, as you might have to do something different. But that is usually the normal process to flash a custom ROM.

If you do not use those app, I just uninstall them period, through Titanium Back Up and Root.. Better yet you really should try flashing a custom rom, you won't have all that garbage.. I'm using this one
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-crdroid-t2860894
It runs great.. Give me a minute, I going to upload the files you need, so you do not have to go through the trouble of downloading them..

Put all three files on your external sd card.. Do a full wipe, data, system, cache, delvik/cache
1) Install the rom first (do not reboot yet)
2) Install gapps (do not reboot yet)
3) Then install SuperSu- reboot, and set up normal.
Be sure to give proper credit to the crdroid team..

Us996 TWRP not sticking

I'm using the tutorial on the LineageOS wiki for the Us996. I've unlocked the bootloader via official means from LG, but when it comes time to send the recovery via fastboot, it successfully sends and writes it, it even let's me boot into it, after pulling the battery, and using the correct button commands. But if I restart and try to enter again I'm greeted by the official erase everything recovery.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to flash root to get the recovery to stick?
Take a look at this video. If you have TWRP installed right, and are going to it through a battery pull and the power button volume down combination, then the screen that comes up looks scary and looks like you'll "format" your phone, but as you see in this video, you don't.

Not sure why it isnt happening automatically (it usually does when flashing things like magisk to root) but when you get into twrp or with root rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.bak. If in twrp first go into the mount page and uncheck the box at the bottom that says something about system read only first, then you can use the file manager.
Or since it sounds like you want to flash lineage, just flash the lineageos zip (and then optionally opengapps and root). Be sure to format data too (wipe->format data->yes). Then if you dont have lineage on an sdcard ready to go you could reboot recovery so that the formatted data is ready then connect to pc and send the zips over by using adb push C:\path\to\lineage.zip /sdcard/

What I'm thinking about doing is flashing TWRP again, on first boot(of TWRP) backing up my current rom(stock) and trying to boot into recovery again, because if it doesn't stick again, it'll wipe but at least I'll have a backup.
I've noticed a lot of different root files which would you recommend?

What I'm thinking about doing is flashing TWRP again, on first boot(of TWRP) backing up my current rom(stock) and trying to boot into recovery again, because if it doesn't stick again, it'll wipe but at least I'll have a backup.

Sorry for the double post but does the "LG factory reset" stay even after having TWRP installed? Like will I always have to answer yes twice to enter TWRP?

Yes thats always the same.
If you don't flash lineage or something to root stock (I reccommend magisk since the alternative, Supersu, is owned by some Chinese company, and magisk has various modules that do many things) and don't rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p manually (theres a file manager under advanced in twrp) the stock rom will use that file to reflash stock recovery any time it boots.

Awesome I think my issue is not renaming that file and the stock rom reinstalling stock recovery. I've used SuperSU, never used magisk, is there a stickied release thread for it?

You've been a huge help, thank you! I'll report back later tonight, when I can actually work on my phone
So i was able to obtain root aswell as installed twrp, the only issue I had was every rom I tried refused to boot. They just hung at the loading screen, that includes the back up I'd made of stock, is there something I missed?

If you mean the boot animation, the very first time can take a good while, like 20 minutes. Also make sure you've formatted /data if you havnt yet especially going to lineage.

Sorry for the late reply, yeah I think I just let the boot animation go for around 5, I'm gonna have to try reflashing it and hoping for the best, I'll be sure to answer back when I get a chance
OK, I know this is an old thread - but I just got a replacement US996 phone; my old standby has a charger plug problem so I decided to get another one and put a rooted stock Oreo ROM on it. However, I'm having the same issue as the OP. Get into fastboot, flash TWRP (I have the 3.3.1-0 version, as the newer 3.3.1-1 version does not have any download mirrors). The flash appears to go just fine, it says the write was completed. However, when I reboot into adb mode and do "adb reboot recovery" I get "no command" and the little droid with his belly hatch open. So obviously TWRP wasn't flashed. The OP says he eventually was able to get it to work and install root. How did you fix the issue?
Do I still need to do the old recowvery shenanigans that we had to do back when the phone first came out?
Thanks!
I believe you MUST use the button combo to reboot into twrp.

I've done that. The problem is that TWRP hasn't actually been installed via fastboot flash recovery - it goes through the motions, SAYS it's been installed, but when I do the button combo, it actually does reset my phone rather than booting into TWRP.

Disregard the above. Flashed it again (4th time), and it finally took.
The same happened with my wife's US996 now that you mention it. Took a few tries and was a bit frustrating.
When I flashed TWRP on mine it was a "one and done".
Glad you got it sorted.
Thanks - all good. Rooted stock Oreo ROM installed, working great.

SM-J510FN Dual Sim Stuck in TWRP recovery mode

Can anyone help, I rooted my phone last year and installed TWRP as part of the process, I did a backup at the time which I have on my SD card
the phone is stuck in the TWRP recovery mode, I can restore from my backup and it goes through fine but then goes back into recovery mode.
This all started when I tried to reset the phone back to factory defaults. I guess I wiped everything. Has anyone got any ideas how to get out of this.
I am not too familiar with TWRP, if anyone could point me in the right direction with a simple step by step guide it would be most appreciated.

I did try that, I found a ROM j510fnxxs2aq14_j510fndbt2aq14_dbt.zip with size of 1,379,794Kb
when I tried to install it I get a failure could not find META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary in the zip file
Error installing zip file /external_sd/j510fnxxs2aq14_j510fndbt2aq14_dbt.zip
Which is why I asked for a bit more detailed advice on my problem. If you could point me in the direction of a suitable
ROM for my device which will work I would appreciate it.

I have tried several custom roms non of which work. What I don't understand is why when I restore from my one and only backup
it all goes through ok the size is 6036MB it reports restoring 7 partitions
then restoring boot then restoring data, at the end of it I get restore ok then it goes back to the TWRP recovery screen.

Is your stock rom android 5 by any chance?
I don't know what my stock rom is, I can't access anything on my phone apart from the TWRP recovery screen
I do have another SM-J510FN which was bought at the same time which hasn't been rooted running Android 7.1.1
I don't know if that would help to determine what the stock rom is.

Sorry I misread the thread I thought it was 2015 model.
So what exactly did you do? Step by step.
Did you wipe anything in twrp?

I went into the TWRP recovery mode then to Wipe hoping to do a factory reset, that went through ok and came back into the TWRP recovery mode
I then tried Advanced wipe and ticked all the boxes except micro SD card. Nothing could get me out of the recovery mode so then I tried a restore from
an old backup and that seemed to go through ok, but it still came back to the recovery mode.
If it was me, I would remove the back cover and via TWRP menu turn off phone.
As soon as the screen goes black, remove battery.
Insert battery and power on and see what happens.
Have you tried that? Or how do you turn it off?

Many times
Okay... when screen goes black have you tried to quickly start pressing the key combination to enter download mode?
For my J500 it's Volume down + Home key + Power (keep pressing until download screen appears) should be same for J510.
If you can enter download you have the option to use Odin and flash either a stock ROM or a newer Recovery.
If you want, you could:
Advance wipe, everything except SD card and OTG Usb. (How much was backed up? Did you tick all boxes?)
Format Data
Restore backup from SD card again
Advance wipe, tick only 2 boxes, Dalvik + Cache
Restart
Report back
Oh, and just to clarify... when you manually go to Restart in TWRP, no matter what option you choose, the phone restarts into TWRP again?
Bare with me, I'm trying to understand and help.
Thats the problem, I can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode so am not able to use Odin, I presume when I did my original backup
I didn't tick all the boxes because it goes through a recovery with no problem I presume the boot sector is missing.
From the TWRP recovery mode I am able to go to install and select a previously downloaded file but then it fails.
I have searched for a suitable ROM to download but am struggling to find one for my phone
Ok, what TWRP version do you have?

You can update your TWRP with a newer version from here:
https://twrp.me/samsung/j5xnlte.html
(Carefully check that I linked to your model!)
.img is what you want to put in your phone. BUT... I haven't done this myself, so it's your call.
In TWRP you choose to install img and locate the file on your SD card.
My thought is that your TWRP is too old for the ROMs you have tried... (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I have the TWRP image file 3.4.0-0 which partition should I be flashing it to Boot or Recovery?
I would hate kill it after getting this far.

You can. There is an option to reboot download mode from twrp (might be reboot bootloader)
That will put the device into download mode and you can flash with Odin.
Alternatively you could go to advanced wipe and wipe everything like you already did and then just flash a custom ROM. You wiped everything you said and then tried to reboot. That's why it went to twrp because you wiped system, there is no system to boot anymore.

Wow, that worked, I updated the version of TWRP and then installed a ROM that I downloaded "resurrectionremix-5.8.4-20190821"
and all seems to be working, both sims are recognised and operational all I need now is to get my head around the UI apart from that everything seems
good. Thank you everybody who helped me through this. I almost got to the point of binning an otherwise good phone.
Once again a big thankyou to everyone.
