Add/Associate photos automatically to my @gmail contacts from social media accounts. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to associate photos/images to my contacts on my mobile.
All my contacts are saved on @gmail.com (without photos)
I have 700+ contacts on my @gmail account
I only want to sync photos of those users who are present on my @gmail.com contacts list
I have several chat messengers and social media accounts like
Facebook (over 3000+ facebook friends/users)
Linkedin (over 200+)
Whatsapp (200+)
etc.
I only want to sync photos of those users who are present on my @gmail.com contacts list
Problems faced in past trying various ways:
1. all my fb users where added to my @gmail contact list
2. photos were synced properly to mobile, but where not synced back to @gmail.com reflashing some roms, deleted all photos from mobile contacts and @gmail was blank without photos.
What should be the safest way to do same?
I have a very hard time acheiving this.
Please help

The highlighted text should be "were" I reckon..
I don't think there's any way to do so with an App, you'll have to assign photos to your gmail contacts manually so that they sync with the gmail account contacts..

Thanks Tamas, there should be an automated way for sure.
Contacts+ and haxsync can do same.. but they do also add all facebook users to my contacts list, which I dont require at all.

Push email

Does anyone know when push email will be available for the T-Mobile MDA?
it is available in the new roms qtek 2.8 and i-mate 2.16.
hades.

hi,
what is "pushed mail" ?
thanks
Push e-mail is for E-mail systems that use Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2. If your company or e-mail provider does not use this then push e-mail is meaningless to you.
Push E-mail = server notifies your phone when you get new message then ActiveSync pulls it to you device
push email for pop3 / imap...?
There are probably a LOT of people using WM5/HTC devices (i.e., new T-Mobile MDA / SDA users) who would love to have the same kind of push email functionality ... but do NOT use exchange server to host their email.
T-Mobile's "my email" (or whatever they call it) can be set up to monitor one or more pop3 / imap email servers and accounts via the configuration web pages at t-mobile.com. A back-office process at t-mobile will check your email accounts on these 3rd party servers periodically, and send you a "silent SMS" if your device and account are configured properly. The phone receives the SMS, and if set right, it opens a connection to your pop3 or imap4 server and retrieves the message.
I've tried this on my new MDA. If I'm already on the net (via USB sync cable or WiFi), it uses that connection -- otherwise, when it receives the silent SMS, it opens a GPRS connection (EDGE if available), retrieves the mail from the pop3/imap4 server via T-Mobile (where you've already keyed in your account info), notifies you according to whatever tone you've selected for this, and displays the incoming email header.
The concept is great -- especially since I signed up for unlimited family messaging for $9.99 a month (for up to 5 phone lines!) -- so there's no concern that all these "silent SMS" messages will create a huge bill. In theory, this could be very similar, functionally, to either blackberry or the new exchange server push email facility.
So far, the only problem is that T-Mobile doesn't seem to be checking my email accounts too frequently. I just sent a test message to my monitored account, and it took 30 minutes before arriving at my MDA.
Great idea...implementation still needs fine-tuning...

ok... i'm ready to be flamed for stupidity. however, be gentle anyway 'cause i'm a nice guy...
my cingular 8125 rom info is below and is the oem. my company runs the latest exchange w/sp2. i use activesync scheduled sync and am set to receive new email when they are sent. i get them automatically usually in a few seconds. i've been told this is not "true" push-mail but instead a triggered pull-mail. meaning that exchange sent an "invisable" sms ping to wake my wizard's activesync to pull-mail. IS THIS CORRECT?
if so, what is the advantage of push-mail in your expert and novice opinions?

Hi,
It's not much but who knows, it might be interesting for some people:
I've (very) recently developped a small application which emulates PushMail using operator's SMS notification of a new message.
Description, readme and CAB files are available on this page: http://www-rocq.inria.fr/who/Arnaud.Porterie/projects/PushMail/
SMS delivery is a cool idea.
1 it does not use data. just keeping a GPRS/EDGE connection will sometimes thow a phonecall to VM. crappy.
but on my HTC, SMS wakes up the phone. sometimes unlocks the key lock
2 SMS's sometimes are delayed. not often any more.. I rember Nextel getting messages 3 days later.
push is nice, SMS is nice.. it would be nice if one could backup the other..

well you could have your gmail pull the emails from the pop3 and that would effectively work.

Pay the 20 dollars a year and have gmail use the pop3 account. You can refer to gmail to configure the pop3
Thanks ill try it out
I've read about IzyMail allowing you to use Hotmail on the G1. I'm not sure if it costs much, I never finished looking into it. I'm still waiting for the G1 to mature a little to see if it is still a decent option for my next upgrade (soon). IzyMail is free to try and $1.49/mo after that, from what their website says.
forward
I made hotmail.com forward my mails to a live.com adress. I can get the emails on my phone using QMail 3 now. Very handy I'm a happy peron now. Try it.

Going off that link. Isn't qmail a PPC app? Ala Windows Mobile? It wouldn't run on Android.
Plus, if you have WM6 or higher, hotmail is integrated (push email) with Windows Live and Outlook. So that app is pointless to have at that point
Use hotmail on your G1? Or completely move to gmail. It's not that hard to manage two accounts on your phone.
just go to hotmail.com on your g1 browser then you can read your mail from there so you dont have to pay the yearly subscription. if that dont work for you then send everybody in your address book a message to start email you at your gmail address. sorry but hotmail is so outdated

Or just set it up with the 'Email' program on the G1...
Hey, just incase anyone is still unsure of how to forward hotmail to googlemail ill explain. First off, you cant access hotmail on the g1 without going on to the browser(well im not sure about paying the extra $20 to get the pop3 activated). Anyway, the only thing that is possible, is to add a hotmail account to your googlemail. This will let you send messages through the googlemail app on your phone, and allow recepients to reply to your messages, which are then directly forwarded to your gmail on your g1.
To do this;
1.Go to your googlemail account(probably easier doing this on the pc).
2. Go to the 'account' menu top right and add your hotmail account.
3. Make the hotmail account the default to send messages.
4. click on 'edit info' beside your newly added hotmail account, and click on the link to change your 'reply to address'.
5. Change the reply to address to your gmail account and you can now send messages from your gmail as your hotmail account, and recieve the replys back to your gmail.
The only problem is, obviously, any new emails sent to your hotmail account wont be recieved from your gmail as you are not forwarding your new mail from hotmail, you can only recieve messages which are being replied.
Hope this helps.
along the lines of what is said above you can just forward your hotmail for free to your gmail
There's also this method which supposedly works as you'd expect - it'll forward to any email address, external or otherwise.
I haven't verified it myself, but looks like some people are having luck with it.
this worked for me flawlessly
you can easily get ur hotmail to ur gmail with out paying

4. Sign on to the [email protected] account, which should now be linked to the [email protected] account, by clicking on it in the scroll down menu above the ‘Sign Out’ button, go to options, and set up the account to forward to [email protected]. This is a setting in the options menu.
Ok im up to this step, the two accounts are linked, i dont know if i cant see it from looking at it but i cant find the option to "forward to the gmail account"? It says this is a setting in the options menu, but i cnt find it?
Thanks.

Yeah i can see the pictures thanks, the problem is on the third pic it gives you the option to forward your mail to the gmail address, whereas on mine the gmail address isnt there, even though they are linked?
Thanks again.
if uhave already done this
3. Log into the newly created [email protected] Microsoft Passport Account, and link the two accounts to each other - on the scroll down menu above the ‘Sign Out’ button, click on ‘Link Accounts’, and link the [email protected] account to the [email protected] Microsoft Passport Account
then it should show up......but i just remembered it took a while for mine to show up...idk if it has to properly register first or what not but it does work as u can see
EDIT: what does it say when u get to that screen?

Ok i have linked both my accounts, managed to verify my gmail so i can now send emails from my gmail account, but when trying to do the forwarding option i type in my gmail account to assign to and this error message appears.
You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again.

How to remove all the contacts in nexus one?

I won't delete all my contacts in Gmail and then sync, but just delete all my contacts in the phone, how can I do that?

Thanks a lot gtrplr71, you know SIM can't save several phone no.s or emails under one name, that's not good for me.
And delete the contacts in Gmail, that's the final step I will do.
Un sync the contacts, then delete them.
Or set up a dummy gmail account to set up your phone with no contacts and turn off sync for contacts.
I finally got it, go to "setup", prorgrames, open filter and see all, then you can find the contacts storage and clear up.

You can export all contacts from Gmail, open in Excel, do whatever you need to do, and re-import back in. I did this once before; very easy and works great.

First go into settings and disable contacts synching under Accounts.
Then...
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications
Hit Menu, then Filter and select All.
Then simply delete the cache for Contacts and Contacts Storage.
That's right. You just have to clear the cache in applications under contacts and it will re-sync all the contacts again without deleting anthing from Gmail. A friend had the same problem.

Are you only looking to clear all the contacts from the phone itself? then just search the market and download "delete contacts" I always used this on my g1.
If this is way off, im sorry buddy!
just go to application manager then contact storage and conctact....and then delete all the data ...it will b done....

I did this trick a few month ago. it deletes all your contacts but the problem is when you want to send a message and you type anything in To field the suggested contacts appear and the contacts are still somewhere on your phone! and if you retrieve the previous contacts they duplicate!! at least this is what I experienced had to use GO Contacts to remove duplicates (or Google contacts duplicate/merge)
Your contacts are stored in the cloud, with a synced copy on your phone. If you still have sync enabled, they will just download again...

[GUIDE] [HOWTO] Sync everything through Outlook

Using this solution you'll be able to sync you Google, Yahoo, MSN Live/Hotmail account, to your Galaxy S with your Windows Mobile devices, PalmOS devices, and your BlackBerry devices, and perhaps even iphone ... (but why would you want to do that anyways)
___________________________________________________________________
Ingredients for the PC, download the following:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010 (not free)
anyone reading this would probably have it installed already, if not then I'll really suggest not getting it at all, Outlook is the worst program ever invented. If you managed to live this long without Outlook, you'll be better off without it.
Mozilla Thunderbird is a great Desktop Sync with the Android via this App Thunderbird AB Sync Free
yet another great alternative is Android Manager via WiFi / USB
Yahoo Sync (free)
http://mail.zenfs.com/sync/YahooSync.msi
Microsoft Outlook Connector for Hotmail & MSN Live Sync 32bit (free)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...89-af2e-41f9-a175-f93e1377959f&displayLang=en
For PalmOS support add:
WinXP, Vista, 7 Palm Desktop 6.2
Additional info: Support info & system requirements
For Windows Mobile support add:
for WinXP get Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
for WinVista/7 get Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 32bit.
note: don't bother with 64bit, too many support issues and but, it wont work with most sync software not even Outlook
For Galaxy S support add:
Samsung Kies
(for paranoids not wanting to sync to their Gmail accounts, Kies is the only solution)
note: normally I'll suggest using Android Manager on WiFi or USB to sync with the phone, but in this exercise we are syncing to all other devices & services via Outlook
For BlackBerry support add:
nothing BlackBerry by default syncs to the mail server of your email account, so even if you happen to be using any of the above or a private exchange server, you'll automatically get all the contacts, calendar & emails, without installing the BlackBerry desktop software.
Desktop Software v6.0 B47
For Iphone support add:
sorry, no soup for you!
go back to iTunes
___________________________________________________________________
Once you have downloaded & installed all of the above components or the ones you've chosen, you'll need to configure them with the accounts of choices that you want to sync across the multiple accounts and multiple devices.
For example Kies, Palm Desktop, Yahoo Sync, BlackBerry Desktop, and if you are daring iTunes, they will all need to be configured to Sync with Outlook.
Outlook will become the center point where all the devices meet, sync each device with its respective software app, and then use Outlook to manage all your contacts & calendars, optionally the email too if you wish to do that.
Once all the devices are sync-ed into Outlook and have cleaned up all the mess of Contacts and Calendars, now you can easily copy & paste the same info across KiGoo to sync all the stuff into your Gmail accounts, Yahoo sync once configure it will automatically Sync everything back to your Yahoo account, the Outlook Connector sync (when it feels like working) will also sync everything back to your MSN Live / Hotmail account, but you still need to copy & paste info across between your Outlook Local folders to the Outlook Connector folders, just the same as KiGoo.
Now all your accounts on Google, Yahoo, MSN Live / Hotmail are Sync-ed and all have the same information.
When everything is sorted out at the end, you just need to press Sync again back on the original software for Kies, PalmOS, Active Sync, iTunes, etc... will sync back the same information to each respective devices.
That is how i maintain my old Treo, HTC phones, BB, and all other old devices active and in sync with my new Galaxy S device.

Thanks for the sharing, Allgamer, however I couldn't download the Android Manager via WiFi / USB, trying to search the file name on google but came up with some wierd thing. Can you kindly help upload the file / sharing a mirror.
Thanks.
You could just use one account, one program and stop the rot.
Or you could buy Companionlink and plug in the USB and Sync away to your hearts content. Also works via Googlemail which is the way I use it so everything is auto sync'd both ways live just like Blackberry.
Companionlink is a good alternative for people willing to spend money on it.
I'll stick to the freebies
Hi,
Why so many apps? Have you tried apps from slipstick.com? I picked CodeTwo Public Folders - just google it - i cannot add any links.
hey.. anyway there's a movie about syncing 'everything' on youtube. just search for "How to sync everything"
LOL!
Thanks for this post!
i checked both websites you mentioned, they are paid products, the and the 2nd one doesn't do what the topic is about.
all it does is export everything to CSV file which is not the intent of this topic
the topic is about keeping everything in Sync on a Daily / Hourly basis
you can't expect people to be exporting CSV file left and right to import it back every day or every hour
Hi all...
Just wondering, did some seearches on the internet, but couldn't find any working syncs between Lotus Notes and Android phone.
I found couple of solutions, but it includes uploading to google calendar and then to Android phone, but can't do this, it is agains't company's policy.
Any help would be appreciated.
hi
I am thinkig of purchasing nexus s, however I have a question.
I use MS outlook for calendar and contacts heavily. Will it be possible to sync nexus s with microsoft outlook's contacts and calendar. This is important for me.
There are some apps above but nexus s is not mentioned.
How will I sync it? Via nexus' original contacts and calendar or will I need special apps. Will I need to install any apps to the PC (other than outlook, which is already installed, of course).
I am just quite new to this site. And new to the android world.. nexus s will be my first. Currently I am using i780 and the thing I like most or only in this phone is I really sync it very easily, by just connecting it to usb. It will be great if I can find similar way in my future nexus s.
I prefer free. But please write your comments of companionlink or other SW, your comments, maybe a brief review. A video, if available, will be great...
Thanks.

HI:
I use Outlook to manage my calendar and contacts and E-Mails.
What I do is:
For calendar download google calendar zync.
for Contact download go contacts zync.
E-Mail configure gmail in Outlook as IMAP. In G-Mail configure you're account to check the e-mail from hotmail and yahoo.
In this way I have all my information in Outlook zync with google. Google has all the information zync in my phone.
Before I use my phone explorer but I had problems with the calendar and the contacts that you create in Outlook was zync in the phone as local contact not gmail contact.
Android Manager is free and good for Outlook sync
Hello,
I have been using the Android manager (AM) on my sidekick 4G and a rooted HTC HD2, both from TMobile USA. Its from MobileAction.com and you need the Android Manager (server) on the PC with your Outlook, and then install the AM Wifi on the phone. You need to have both the PC and phone on the same LAN/Wifi n/w and then use the IP and a code that shows up on the AM Wifi on the phone and enter them on the AM on the PC. Once both are connected the syncing starts and you can choose what to sync and what not. By the way Outlook displays a warning asking you whether to permit or not an access to the Outlook data files. You have to let the access to sync and I normally allow it for 10 minutes as the first sync takes about that time. Only drawback I saw is that I cannot have multiple sync settings for both my devices as the code and IP address are different for both phones. I have to change them each time. Not sure is it can be done any other way. Anyway, just in case anyone wants to try out AM.

Google Calendar / Outlook Syncing Made Easy...

For those of you who prefer the user interface and ease-of-use of Outlook to Google Calendar but wish to sync Outlook with Google Calendar automatically, there is an app for that.
This lives on your PC, not your phone. Does everything in the background. Just set it and forget it.

* Apparently this syncs only Calendar Events and not Tasks, as far as I can tell.
The biggest problem I had with that solution is that you can only sync with your main google calendar. A much more complete solution is an outlook plug-in called gSyncit (which I have used and is fantastic). Check it out:

Work-around: I think if you share other calendars to your main google account (you have to log in to Google calendar, go to settings, and add them there) and have them set to display on your main google calendar, they will appear in Outlook when your main calendar syncs.
I know this works with my MBA program's Google-Apps driven calendar. By adding my personal gmail calendar as a calendar to my school's Google-Apps-driven calendar (by logging in to my @wgu.edu email account through the gmail login screen), my personal calendar displays in the Outlook sync I use for my university email address, alongside my @wgu.edu calendar events.
I may be wrong, since I'm not using Google Calendar Sync but Google Apps Sync, but conceptually I'm inclined to think its the same. The sync picks up all calendars you've added to your account through the gmail calendar settings console.

Every time I asked it to sync, rather than looking at which appointments had already synced from Outlook to Google, it just added a new Google record. The result? I synced 3 times and now have 3 duplicated appointments in Google Calendar a same day and time.
I am sure it is not intended to work this way but cannot find an adjustment in settings.
Does anyone know of a good solution to sync google tasks with outlook task?
Edit: ok i see gsyncit can sync tasks, Sad thats its so pricey

I think you didn´t assign the correct "Google Contact Group" in settings.
I assigned my outlook contacts to "My Contacts" and it works flawless.
