well you could have your gmail pull the emails from the pop3 and that would effectively work.

Pay the 20 dollars a year and have gmail use the pop3 account. You can refer to gmail to configure the pop3
Thanks ill try it out
I've read about IzyMail allowing you to use Hotmail on the G1. I'm not sure if it costs much, I never finished looking into it. I'm still waiting for the G1 to mature a little to see if it is still a decent option for my next upgrade (soon). IzyMail is free to try and $1.49/mo after that, from what their website says.

I made hotmail.com forward my mails to a live.com adress. I can get the emails on my phone using QMail 3 now. Very handy I'm a happy peron now. Try it.

Going off that link. Isn't qmail a PPC app? Ala Windows Mobile? It wouldn't run on Android.
Plus, if you have WM6 or higher, hotmail is integrated (push email) with Windows Live and Outlook. So that app is pointless to have at that point
Use hotmail on your G1? Or completely move to gmail. It's not that hard to manage two accounts on your phone.
just go to hotmail.com on your g1 browser then you can read your mail from there so you dont have to pay the yearly subscription. if that dont work for you then send everybody in your address book a message to start email you at your gmail address. sorry but hotmail is so outdated

Or just set it up with the 'Email' program on the G1...
Hey, just incase anyone is still unsure of how to forward hotmail to googlemail ill explain. First off, you cant access hotmail on the g1 without going on to the browser(well im not sure about paying the extra $20 to get the pop3 activated). Anyway, the only thing that is possible, is to add a hotmail account to your googlemail. This will let you send messages through the googlemail app on your phone, and allow recepients to reply to your messages, which are then directly forwarded to your gmail on your g1.
To do this;
1.Go to your googlemail account(probably easier doing this on the pc).
2. Go to the 'account' menu top right and add your hotmail account.
3. Make the hotmail account the default to send messages.
4. click on 'edit info' beside your newly added hotmail account, and click on the link to change your 'reply to address'.
5. Change the reply to address to your gmail account and you can now send messages from your gmail as your hotmail account, and recieve the replys back to your gmail.
The only problem is, obviously, any new emails sent to your hotmail account wont be recieved from your gmail as you are not forwarding your new mail from hotmail, you can only recieve messages which are being replied.
Hope this helps.
along the lines of what is said above you can just forward your hotmail for free to your gmail
There's also this method which supposedly works as you'd expect - it'll forward to any email address, external or otherwise.
I haven't verified it myself, but looks like some people are having luck with it.
this worked for me flawlessly
you can easily get ur hotmail to ur gmail with out paying

4. Sign on to the [email protected] account, which should now be linked to the [email protected] account, by clicking on it in the scroll down menu above the ‘Sign Out’ button, go to options, and set up the account to forward to [email protected]. This is a setting in the options menu.
Ok im up to this step, the two accounts are linked, i dont know if i cant see it from looking at it but i cant find the option to "forward to the gmail account"? It says this is a setting in the options menu, but i cnt find it?
Thanks.

Yeah i can see the pictures thanks, the problem is on the third pic it gives you the option to forward your mail to the gmail address, whereas on mine the gmail address isnt there, even though they are linked?

3. Log into the newly created [email protected] Microsoft Passport Account, and link the two accounts to each other - on the scroll down menu above the ‘Sign Out’ button, click on ‘Link Accounts’, and link the [email protected] account to the [email protected] Microsoft Passport Account
then it should show up......but i just remembered it took a while for mine to show up...idk if it has to properly register first or what not but it does work as u can see
EDIT: what does it say when u get to that screen?

Ok i have linked both my accounts, managed to verify my gmail so i can now send emails from my gmail account, but when trying to do the forwarding option i type in my gmail account to assign to and this error message appears.
You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again.

hi,
what is "pushed mail" ?
thanks
Push e-mail is for E-mail systems that use Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2. If your company or e-mail provider does not use this then push e-mail is meaningless to you.
Push E-mail = server notifies your phone when you get new message then ActiveSync pulls it to you device
push email for pop3 / imap...?
There are probably a LOT of people using WM5/HTC devices (i.e., new T-Mobile MDA / SDA users) who would love to have the same kind of push email functionality ... but do NOT use exchange server to host their email.
T-Mobile's "my email" (or whatever they call it) can be set up to monitor one or more pop3 / imap email servers and accounts via the configuration web pages at t-mobile.com. A back-office process at t-mobile will check your email accounts on these 3rd party servers periodically, and send you a "silent SMS" if your device and account are configured properly. The phone receives the SMS, and if set right, it opens a connection to your pop3 or imap4 server and retrieves the message.
I've tried this on my new MDA. If I'm already on the net (via USB sync cable or WiFi), it uses that connection -- otherwise, when it receives the silent SMS, it opens a GPRS connection (EDGE if available), retrieves the mail from the pop3/imap4 server via T-Mobile (where you've already keyed in your account info), notifies you according to whatever tone you've selected for this, and displays the incoming email header.
The concept is great -- especially since I signed up for unlimited family messaging for $9.99 a month (for up to 5 phone lines!) -- so there's no concern that all these "silent SMS" messages will create a huge bill. In theory, this could be very similar, functionally, to either blackberry or the new exchange server push email facility.
So far, the only problem is that T-Mobile doesn't seem to be checking my email accounts too frequently. I just sent a test message to my monitored account, and it took 30 minutes before arriving at my MDA.
Great idea...implementation still needs fine-tuning...

ok... i'm ready to be flamed for stupidity. however, be gentle anyway 'cause i'm a nice guy...
my cingular 8125 rom info is below and is the oem. my company runs the latest exchange w/sp2. i use activesync scheduled sync and am set to receive new email when they are sent. i get them automatically usually in a few seconds. i've been told this is not "true" push-mail but instead a triggered pull-mail. meaning that exchange sent an "invisable" sms ping to wake my wizard's activesync to pull-mail. IS THIS CORRECT?
if so, what is the advantage of push-mail in your expert and novice opinions?

Hi,
It's not much but who knows, it might be interesting for some people:
I've (very) recently developped a small application which emulates PushMail using operator's SMS notification of a new message.
Description, readme and CAB files are available on this page: http://www-rocq.inria.fr/who/Arnaud.Porterie/projects/PushMail/
SMS delivery is a cool idea.
1 it does not use data. just keeping a GPRS/EDGE connection will sometimes thow a phonecall to VM. crappy.
but on my HTC, SMS wakes up the phone. sometimes unlocks the key lock
2 SMS's sometimes are delayed. not often any more.. I rember Nextel getting messages 3 days later.
push is nice, SMS is nice.. it would be nice if one could backup the other..
i used to have push email with my blackberry. how can i get my yahoo email to be synced/pushed? tia
Read some posts here in the forum. This topic is described very well.
You need an ms exchange email account (eg. http://www.mail2web.com). it's free.
then forward all your yahoo mails to this account of let mail2web fetch them.
configure activesysnc on your device to fetch the mails and thats it.
rgds,
Sebastian
^so does this service automatically send emails directly to me? after looking at the website, it seems like i have to go there to fetch the emails. im looking for something similar to blackberry's email service, where emails come to my device in real time. im sure it's a noob question for i apologize in advance if this has been discussed already.
It works flawlessly with this service.I'm using it for 2 years now, and I dind't have any problems.
Mail2web offers many services. I think you saw the OWA (outlook web access).
With OWA you can have a llok&feel Outlook displayed in a browser.
Search for a howto here in the forum, how to configure your device, and you will see.
It's an easy one.
In active sync on your device you can setup the sync interval. You can set it to: When item arrives.
This is BB style. Therefor you need 24/7 dataconnection.

Yes, the mail is pushed to your device in real time.
yahoo email forwarding must've been free before but now it wants me to buy the yahoo plus to get that feature.
Is there anotehr way of forwarding yahoo email elsewhere?
i downloaded ypops but it doesnt seem to forward
Mail2web, works a treat.
I briefly read this thread, and 1.5 hours later I had my Yahoo email forwarding to my NTL account which in turn forwarded to my new microsoft web access acount.
which in turn pushes the mail to my mobile.
On your yahoo mail page in the top right is a light blue link 'options'
select that and then on the right hand side is a link to 'pop & forwarding'
And that is where you enter your forwarding address.
Works a treat.
Now if i buy somthing on ebay, within 40 seconds there is a mail on my mobile.
pretty fast i think. and FREE.
Chris
how are you forwarding your yahoo email? Do you have the free account or paid?

It is just the free account.
Under your 'my account' add an alternate email address and set this address to primary.

Mda Push email??
Ive been following Jinwu57 post for a few days now and I would like to also know how to have my mail pushed to my MDA. I followed the post here & setup a http://www.mail2web.com account but it does not work for me. I am unable to sync my mail exchange in ACtivesync, In tools...Server source I get an error. This is very confusing. I have 3 email accounts which are very important to me. My solution was to open up a GMail account. Forward all other email accounts to my Gmail and have tmobile data check every 10minutes. Hope this helps you Jinwu57
Appologies, I had a yahoo group that was forwarding its mail to my NTL account. But I now do have my yahoo account forwarding.
On your yahoo mail page in the top right is a light blue link 'options'
select that and then on the left hand side is a link to 'pop & forwarding'
And that is where you enter your forwarding address.
This also forwards directly to my mail2web.com account. (small bonus)
I hope this is the answer you wanted (this time).

those options are not available on free accounts. Perhaps you obtained ur yahoo account when pop/forwarding was free.
yahoo mail forwarding.
I have only had the yahoo account about 2 or 3 weeks.
I'm not sure I described it well enough.
From the options menu you have to select 'mail options'.
then on the left I get 'pop & forwarding' options available.
You might have more luck with the yahoo clasic view.
Options (in the top right of your mail window)
then the option for 'pop & forwarding' is in the middle of the page under the management column.
also found this link that shows that forwarding is possible in both free and plus(payed) services:
http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/mail/plus/info/
I don't know that there is much more I can say, but if you have further question on this, please email me or send a personal message, as this is a bit off topic now.
Thanks.
Chris.

Yahoo push mail
Don't know if you guys know this or not, but Yahoo now has a mobile client for PPC and SP that gives you lots of stuff, including push mail. No need to forward stuff or anything like that.
I'm running that on both my phones and I must say that it is quite good. Check it out here: Yahoo Go! and download the client.

Sounds good. There is an advantage to using mail2web, though. No extra app is required on your PPC, it works with ActiveSync and your PPC's email app.
and is therefore hardly any extra burden on the PPC's memory.
Good addition though.

dont think so. I prefer using activesync for google contacts and calendar, and setting up gmail but without push in the email inbox. You should get email noises, no matter if both are there. Go to home screen, settings tab, menu, all settings, sounds and notifications, tab sounds, scroll to new email and check options are ticked as needed.
I can't get the push to work despite having hard reset the phone a couple of times. ( now got to get my music and photo's back on)
Contacts not so bad as they will sync with myphone.
I think I am going to have to go back to normal google syncing every 5 minutes. unless someone has another solution.
Thanks for your help

Your provider will need to support this.
It's NOT a normal thing they do.
Only "free" push providers that I know of are Gmail and Hotmail (live)

Sure!
This is what worked for me after lots of attempts.
I deleted the original IMAP googlemail account
Iwent to activesync
Put in my googlemail address ie [email protected]
Password xxxxxxx ignore tha fact that it then adds extra digits.
Save password
leave domain name blank
username will come up as santa, this needs changing to [email protected]
edit server will come up and this is m.google.com
Choose the data you want to sync
Choose schedule as items arrive
The forst sync I had to press send and receive thereafter it worked.
What was confusing me before was the fact that I had the phone charging in the computer as I set up, it would not sync until I unplugged it. After unplugging it only pushed new mail not the mail already on the server.
I hope this makes some sense I am very new to this.
Ok.. Looks easy. Did you set anything in your gmail account on the server?
Also. I'm not sure if thats your true e-mail address, but if so, and if you do not like spam, you better remove it from your post!
Lot's of spam bots WILL get your e-mail address, and use it for sending spam to you!
Ok I managed to get it working after a bit, but syncing still seems slow. Also when I send a message from the phone it shows up in my mail client inbox anyway to stop this happening.

did anybody try to send a mail with some attachment to your gmail push account? When i get the mail on my device, i can see the attachment, however, i cannot open it or save it. When i click on the attachment it says downloading... but still cannot open or save it? does it work for you guys?
I have a Nexus One working fine on Orange.
I use it for my Blueyonder email account which is set up just the same as it was on my Hero.
The problem is this:
I get the email notification to say i have new emails, then i go into my emails and the emails are there. Then it starts to refresh my emails and then before my eyes there all disappear! It deletes them before i have chance to read them.
If i then go onto my pc to check my emails there are none there. So its obviously deleting them from the server.
Now i have checked double and triple checked the settings. Its definitely not set to delete from server or even delete when read.
Any help will be appreciated as i dont know what is going on and I'm losing important emails.
I take it you are using the native email client?
Maybe this is not the answer that you are looking for but I use the Gmail App instead of the native Email client. That way I get the benefit of Push without having to refresh.
If you are interested in doing the same then all you have to do is..on your PC:
Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import > Check mail using POP3: > Add POP3 email account.
Then all blueyonder emails will be pushed to the Gmail App and you can set a label for them as well.
Yes i am. I`m just upset that it doesnt work just like the Hero did. That was spot on..
I`ll try your idea if no one comes up with a solution for me. Cheers.
I agree with Abbsta... you should to add your blueyonder account to gmail and receive all your blueyonder emails in gmail account.
it is much easier and being a google phone it works well with gmail accounts...
I did what you said and its spot on cheers..
Just an update. Spoke to HTC had no idea why it was doing but suggested i use imap instead of pop3.
It worked!
