I've been running a project on mobile computing at work which obviously means that I get loads of cool toys to play with.
So today I connected my XDA II to a server (via D-Link router) running MS Exchange and MS Sharepoint.
Limited success with Sharepoint, it renders ok but you lose a fair bit of functionality which must be down to advanced IE features not present in the mobile version.
Exchange Web Access worked like a dream though (albeit, a dream where the browser window is too small and the wrong form factor!)
However I was doing 3 things at once and ticked "remember password" when initially logging on to the server and the damned thing just bypassed authentication from then on meaning I couldn't try different accounts.
So to the "does anyone know" bit, Firstly anyone have any ideas about clearing the "remember passwords" nightmare, tried stopping explorer, clearing cache and cookies and even a soft reset with no joy.
The main idea of the project is to give our key mobile workers (mainly our Directors) access to this technology, now I would never suggest that Directors are thick (and some of ours are anything but) however the process for selecting and connecting to networks seems bloody fiddly at best, anyone know of any decent software that makes this a bit more intuitive?
Gonna try and make time to try my BTOpenzone account out with the XDA II tomorrow, any thoughts?
For the auto authenticate part, why not just change your account password on your exchange server, youll get a refused connection and asked for password and username again.
I've tried owa on the xda2 and found it very unwield, so I use imap into pocket outlook instead check it just like you would pop3, infact you could use pop3 aswell / instead.
Forgot to mention, have you had a play with remote admin using the xda yet? I'm looking for a better way than the admin website (same problem as owa)
Good idea on the password, owa is being as we have an existing (large) corporate Exchange set up and want a relatively seamless mobile experience. When using notebooks etc away from the office we'll be using OWA so using it on the Xda's too makes it easier for our high powered thinkers!
Might just have to get some iPaq 4150's for the landscape mode while waiting for Xda III!
Not touched remote admin and probably not likely to, the final system will likely be installed in a fully supported datacentre.
Sounds like a fun setup, love to get my hands on a rig like that (probably bring the whole system down!!! LOL).
I think that owa uses editable html pages, so you could maybe create a more pocket pc friendly layout, I would think that you could redirect clients by browser type so that pc users got the standard layout, and xda's got the modified one.
I've found that if you keep the possible number of connection options down the auto select works pretty well.
Anyone know of an app, that automatically login into wifi network?
For example, my school have public wifi, however it requires me to open a browser then enter my user Id/password. Is there a way to automated this? I am already using Y5 and this is the last piece of the puzzle.
PS: obviously, I don't want to share my student id/password with the whole wide world as well. So thing like WeFi doesn't seem like the best thing on earth. I just want to store the login info locally on my phone.

I have the same issue with my employer's WiFi.
The weird thing is it often works for many days, allowing me to connect/disconnect freely. Then one day randomly, it'll ask for my password again.
I'm pretty sure there's no way to automate entering your password if you have to do it via a browser (mine is via a browser as well).
The only thing I can suggest is adding your username to the dictionary so you can easily type something and get it auto-corrected for the full username. Also, using KeePass to copy/paste the password.

I have a stock Samsung Vibrant. It connects to my home wifi network just fine and is very fast.
At my school we have to register the mac address' of devices we have on their Clean Access servers. I have registered many devices that work fine.
I registered the mac address of my Vibrant, and it can connect to the wifi, but it will not load a web page. Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong.
I also registered my roommates Vibrant. His does not work either.
I work at the Schools Tech Support so I have access to register and edit my phone on their Clean Access servers.
Does anyone have any solutions?
are you using WPA/WPAv2 or WEP + RADIUS authentication? Does your vibrant obtain an IP address successfully? Can you ping the default router?

Im going out on a limb here. I am going to say its the Clean access and your "open network". I assume on your schools computer you use your student ID and some password. Your phone would need the same thing if that is the case. I know at my school, iphones are the only phones that can access our clean access. If its not the case then i am sorry.
my school runs clean access and it works fine. but they have two networks a guest and a login. i use the guest cause i don't want to waste the time to login. but i can try it on monday. typically with linux (i.e. android) you have a web portal and have to agree to some antivirus bs by clicking a button and that's it (and login for the non guest network). one thing i have noticed, though, is that typically i have to turn wifi on, connect to the network, try to load a page, it doesn't work, then i turn wifi off then immediately back on and try to load a page and it takes me to the login/terms portal page.

You should remove the IP from post. Anyways, it seems like the handshake is good. Note down the address of redirected terms and conditions page you get when trying to go online from a laptop. Then enter the same address in vibrant's browser once you are connected through Wifi ( or set it as homepage) and see if that lets it through.
Probably an issue with Android's lack of native NTLM support. AFAIK this is still unresolved. Have you tried using Fennec rather than the stock browser? I've heard you can authenticate properly using it.

interesting. i use dolphin hd and it works for the clean access web authentication page.
Could be, if your school does not have a guest account login for devices, that you are getting on the segregated network because CA cannot verify the "cleanliness" of your device. When I setup CA it verified patch levels and such on the non-guest network, so unless CA comes out with a Android client/access list, it may not work.

except then it wouldn't allow osx or linux. clean access requires an app for windows to verify service pack and av and whatever, but for linux and osx it doesn't. it wouldn't be able to (at least for linux).

That is correct but it can ID the operating system and has exceptions for those flavors ...

I don't think it's an android thing because I had my G1 on the servers.
Normally what happens if you aren't registered on Clean Access is, if you open a web browser, you will be automatically redirected to an authentication page where you put in your school ID and password. This would work fine and allow me to get on the wifi, but it never came up on the web browser, it just tries to load the page for awhile and goes to a 'Page cannot be displayed' page.
Also I have tried using different browsers, including Dolphin HD.
If I can just get to the authentication page even it will be fine, I could work with that.

That is exactly what I said my last reply...Try putting https infront of your authentication URL, and make sure the java-script etc. is on in your browser...Try clearing cache and hit refresh as well. Also, see what happens if you set that URL as homepage...

did you try turning on wifi, wait for it to connect, try to load a page (any page because it will redirect you), wait for it to time out, pull down the notification bar, turn wifi off, turn it back on and then reload the page? i know it sounds dumb, but this is the only way i've got it to work at my school and it works every time...

to what flavors? i'm guessing android will show as linux since it's based off a linux kernel. more than likely it checks for windows, and if false goes to the default linux/osx page because to clean access those aren't threat os's.

they don't have the authentication URL on their homepage so I don't know what it is, it should automatically redirect me to it.
Also when I connect to wifi, try to load a page, let it time out, turn off wifi, turn it back on and connect again, and then refresh the page.. nothing happens it times out again.
Ok so I did find out the authentication page URL. Typed it into my phone. I had high hopes when a page saying "You are being redirected to the network authentication page. If you are not redirected automatically, then please click HERE".
Anyway it did redirect me, to a "Web page not available"... etc.
In the default browser it gave me the error... "Data connectivity problem. A secure connection could not be established". umm wtf?
Can you communicate with other protocols/ports? I used to be able to exploit a bug with our school's CCA servers where I could just connect unauthenticated and use SSH. (Maybe it was a feature?)
I can't use any other web protocols.

it's a t mobile vibrant either kernel or rom problem. My phone connected the very first time I tried to use it at an argosy site, then never ever ever again.
so. I used wifi manager to find out what the ip, gateway, subnet mask, and dns 1 and 2 were. I went to settings, wifi, options key to go to advanced options, from there selected static ip and entered all the info I gathered
bam! ! Connected every time.
Oh and btw, the reason I say its a tmobile vibrant rom or kernel problem is that on fusion, Eugene's and bionix final, I was able to connect right away, every time . And on my f friends att fascinate and verizon captivate, they never had to enter the static ip like I did. They connected right away every time . Yet everyone I know that had s vibrant kept having the same proble. m i did .
Tmobile. What a piece of ****. Anyway I figured nobody had this figured out so I'd jump in.

Hello, I'm XDA News Writer mustangtim49 and I made the horrible mistake of installing windows8 on my little emachines mini lappie. I lost my normal home wifi and now I can't access my computer, every time I input my password, my computer says "your computer is offline, try the last password entered on this computer" I'm ready to throw it away, but do to a bad break up, this is all I have and it's really affecting my ability to do my job here at XDA. You can reset the admin password using various available tools. I haven't tried it with Win8, but below are instructions for Win7. It shouldn't be different. Worse comes to worst, just reformat it and re-install, since it's a new install anyway.

There were also some reports from the CP version of password length needing to be between 8-16 chars, else an "incorrect password" error occurs.

Let me get this straight... is it your windows password or your home wifi password you can't get to work. You said you lost your home wifi. That has nothing to do with your windows password except it trys to check the microsoft account 1st then it uses the local. If there is something wrong with the local, take it somewhere that has free internet like dunkin donuts does in states and try logging in. Then switch to a local account.
I am tethering my phone as wifi and I still can't get past the password. It's the stupid w8 password screen when you first start the computer. Is says offline after I put in my password and will not let me in.

Being offline has nothing to do with the Win8 local password to login. I've been working with Win8 R&D for the past year and have yet to see an error like that.
Is it the WiFi password that is not being accepted?

Also, if you switched to a Microsoft account to login, the password for that account is the one you need to login, not the one you created for the local account.

The catch is that I need something that will connect and work at the Windows login screen. Unified Remote doesn't work until you're logged in. I already have UltraVNC setup on the HTPC, and my wife's Ipad has an app called Touchpad that works at the login screen, but I haven't found one on Android yet. I tried a couple straight up VNC clients, including Jump Desktop, these appear to be "viewers", so they clone the desktop screen on my N7. I don't want that, because it gets all laggy when I go to play a movie or something on the TV.
Anybody have an app to recommend?
PS - the reason I need it to work from the login screen is because during the day at work I remote into the machine with my "normal" account for email/browsing, and I keep normal Win7 settings. When I get home, I login to my "HTPC" account, which is optimized with larger text, media center, xbmc, etc. If this is a dumb reason with a better solution let me know that too.

Okay so on another forum I was told to use Unified Remote, but set a task in the task scheduler to start the unified remote server on machine startup, and give it admin credentials. I tried this to no avail. The app says it is connected while at the login screen, but doesn't work until I'm logged in.
Is the issue that the unified remote server isn't built in a manner that windows will allow it access when not logged in? If so, does that mean I need an android app that runs off of UltraVNC?
