[Q] I can't root my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4

I need help!!!
I try everything to root my S4, any different way and i can't root, i fell its something wrong with it, cause phone is 16gb shows only 9gb 6 gb its for miscellaneous files. can someone help?
I like to re install everything.

First the memory shown is correct, the rest is used by android.
Second, what firmware are you on and what specific phone?

MF3 = motochopper does not work. You would need to root using this method:

NOTE: You cannot unroot once you do it. If you mess up your phone with root, there is likely no way to fix it. There is no possibility of installing a custom recovery, even after you have root...and so you can't flash any ROMs either. Know the risks and issues before you proceed and make sure root is THAT important to you.
Since you are on MF3 there is also no way to downgrade to previous firmware, you are stuck with the above restrictions until someone figures out a new exploit...and no ETA on that.

Read the first two posts in this because there is good information. In the second post there is a link to how to root mf3. Follow the OP's directions there. If you're still having problems give specific info on where the problems are occurring

So, when you try to boot it just goes to download mode? You mentioned in your first post that you had tried to root, what did you try? Have tried to get into recovery mode?

Yes, used casual and now its go by itself to download mode, and yes i try to go in recovery mode, and come back to download mode

I hate to say it, but because your on mf3 and you tried to use causal, you've borked your phone. Afaik there is not currently away to recover it. You have to wait until if or when an odin flashable firmware comes out. You could try jtag but I don't think that even works. As a last resort try kies emergency recovery.

i got it men,
Here what do i did:
remove battery wait fill seconds put it back on press volume down home and power its go to download mode, but when its ask if like to download mode or cancel and restart you press cancel and restart and that it.

I seriously doubt he got root.
It sounds more like he got it to boot (misspelled words).
No recovery and no way to factory reset. Sad.
Will all these folks be borked forever? On that note, I discovered an automated text survey after talking to AT&T support on the phone to light up a new SIM for a different handset. I gave high marks for the person's help, and low marks on AT&T in general, and in the last survey screen where you supply your comment, I told them what I thought of them locking the bootloader on the Samsung-SGH-I337.
The experience was not unlike wetting myself while wearing a dark suit, it gave me a warm feeling and hardly anyone will notice.

yes this is the problem, keep return to download mode after reboot, i root the phone but i cant put a custom room!
If anyone now how to fix please let me know.

You will not be able to put a custom Rom our recovery on. You have the mf3 firmware. Don't try or you'll mess up your phone worse that it is.

You cannot flash anything. You cannot obtain a recovery or any kind of factory reset. YOU HAVE THE MF3 FIRMWARE. If you try anything else you will break your handset. Be thankful you can get it to boot up at all.

Phone Won't Wake From Sleep

I've got an i9500 that won't wake from sleep. I've reflashed firmware with odin. No luck.
Tried alternate battery, no luck.
Any suggestions?

i dont really get it... So your phone doesnt want to wake up.... but what do you do to make ur phone working again than?

Everytime the phone goes into deep sleep, it hangs. Battery must be pulled, or power button must be held until reboot.
If I leave it on the charger, it won't deep sleep, and thus will wake up. If I leave a music player playing in the background, even with volume at 0, the screen can be turned off and on as normal. With no background activity, as soon as the screen is turned off and the ~3 seconds have passed for it to enter deep sleep, it "freezes" and won't turn back on till I do what I stated above.
I feel like it's a hardware issue, but I wonder if I can fix it with software?
Or any other ideas, please!
Since I'm in the USA, Samsung Int'l won't do a warranty for me.

I've had the same problem with my 19005, i flashed it back to official stock firmware and the problems were gone.

I've flashed to stock Egypt and German firmware, a couple times, with data wipes in between.
No luck.
What version did you flash?

Downloading the latest firmware now, Nigeria. Going to follow the guide again.

I tried again, wiped data after flashing..its still hanging when it enters deep sleep.
Any more ideas anyone?

Got same problem. Device will reboot if enter deep sleep. it's will reboot immediately when screen time out. Already flash many variant of stock rom and costum rom but still no luck.I also use different kernel but problem stil persist.
playing song will avoid the problem.
looking forward to solution for this problem.

i think this will be a warranty problem, because i did the following, go fully back to stock, including traingle away. after that my phone didnt had the problem anymore. but i still sended it back to samsung to be sure of the case.

Samsung won't help me do a warranty because I live in the USA.

I can't.
Ebay screwed me. The guy listed it as bad software. Then won't accept a return. I'm stuck with it. Went through a case with ebay and everything. Really dumb...

Did u really bring it fully back to stock, like flash official rom through odin, root it again, use triangle away, and permanent unroot.

I flashed official roms through odin. I did root it again....I think? See when I rooted my Note 1, N7000, I used zerg-rush or whatever, which exploited code through adb and whatnot. But for this, all I did was flash Adam kernel, and I had root, and stweaks. But never did I have a triangle, which made me wonder. And I didn't ever need to do triangle away. I thought flashing back to official would remove root. But maybe I missed something. Like I said, it seemed too easy.

triangle away doesn't support the i9500 yet, only the i9505.
But I wonder why I've never gotten a triangle.

I never got the triangle to.. But the flash counter was still 6 and when u go to settings=> about phone you will see that it's says unofficial firmware, and if u try to update the phone it probably says you have modified yours.

Mine still says official. I've had download mode show "custom" when I had a different kernel for root. But after just a simple Odin flash, everything says official. No counter that I've seen.

Goomanager stuck

Hello I just go my S4 today. I downloaded goomanager because I wanted to install TWRP. It did not work. Now when I try to reset back to factory settings I keep getting a screen that says downloading do not turn off target. How can I fix this and get it back to the normal recovery mode?

i have no idea what carrier or device (i337 / i337m) you have.
when you got your device did you check in settings to see what build number you were running and then check out the material on xda before proceeding? there's ways of doing things that can save you headaches if you browse and read first. cheers

Dude, you pretty much hosed your new phone by not doing your home work before messing with it. I'm sure you're on mf3 firmware. Your best hope is to get it re-flashed at a bestbuy with the Samsung experience. You'll have some explaining to do! Good luck!

You can probably get it to boot by pushing vol down when it goes to download mode. But your recovery is messed up now.

To the OP
I have the same issue. I manage to reboot the phone by turning it off, holding the power and volume down buttons, then when it asks if I'm sure I want to install a custom ROM, I hot cancel (volume down) and it reboots like normal.
Right now, I'm just trying to get mine back into ecovery so I can install CM

You're not going to be able to get it into recovery. Bestbuy is your best solution. Or wait until if and when an odin flashable firmware is available.

Im getting out of it that way too. But if I ever want to update or anything this will stop me i think. I can use it for now but I really want to fix it. nothing worse than having a phone for an hour and ****ing it up.

No, it has to be mf3 firmware and it's not currently available. Trying to flash an earlier firmware won't work. There is a qfuse in the phone's circuitry that is blown when mf3 is on the phone which won't let you downgrade.

Yea. I'm with you 100%. I'm searching for a solution myself. I had CWM running fine at first, and wanted to swap to TWRP for an easier interface, and didn't do enough research. If I find anything, I'll be back on your post to tell you how I fixed it

Sorry to say, but you'll be wasting your time. You'll find that there have been many, many people in the same boat for months now and the only current solution is if you can get bestbuy to re-flash it. They and att are the only ones who have the firmware available.

No, but you'll have to ask nicely and they may not do it if they see you tried to flash a recovery. Bring the phone in on download mode and tell them it froze while using kies.

Make sure they have a Samsung experience kiosk. Not all bestbuys have them

I took it to best buy with a samsung experience. Them and geek squad couldn't or wouldn't help me. They said to go online to unroot it and fix it.

Anybody know what trying to update to 4.3 will do?

if your recovery is still broken, nothing. you can use the Odin filed for MF3 or find the thread about someone who use a recovery flasher app to repair before doing the update.

Hey... I jacked up my phone installing a custom recovery with GooManager too. It isn't for our phone. To get back to Android from DL mode just do power button+vol up+home and it will send ya back. Take it to Best Buy and say Kies broke your phone. You were trying to run an update and it messed it up. They can fix it for ya. Obviously you're rooted so just delete Superuser.apk and delete all root apps. Just in case. And don't be a derp and tell them the phone was rooted... Good Luck.
(Go back and hopefully they won't remember you.)

Unresponsive screen when touching, but working using s-pen

anyone experienced this issue? already tried removing the battery for a couple of minutes, factory reset, wipe cache partition, still not working. but using S-pen works.

Did you root your phone? How long ago did you purchase your Note 4? Replace it if you did not root your phone.

Nope, haven't tried rooting it. just purchased it last Jan 6 2015. too bad i purchased it in gray market, the store won't replace it.

In what situations is the screen not being responsive? Is it all the time? I suppose factory reset didn't help? Could be an issue in the digitizer registering inappropriate touch signals as you touch the display. Is the screen not being in touch-responsive in all areas of the display? Might want to reflash the Stock ROM using ODIN, if a factory reset and clearing the cache doesn't help.

what i was doing before this happened, im downloading an ebook through torrent and using tubemate app then it froze. what i did was i removed the battery for it to restart. after turning on, the lockscreen can't be unlocked by swiping using my finger or any gesture, but by using the S-pen I can navigate and tap everything just like normal, tap everything on the display only by using the Spen.

Rooting would require another thread, because the rooting process is different in the Note 4 than it was when I rooted earlier devices.
Not sure if you downloaded malware which would potentially cripple the device, but factory reset with data cache would have resolved that part.
A new digitzer costs $172 or so.

Reflash Stock ROM
Download stock rom from sammobile.com
Same site you will find odin download link
Install kies or driver from Samsung web site to your windows based pc
Run odin as admin
Extract downloaded firmware & put md5 file in AP
Connect your mobile to pc
Wait little till port become blue /green
Start to flash & wait for PASS to display in odin
Make sure kies is not running in baground while flashing
Temporary disable antiviras while flashing
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

Doesn't hurt to try, just make sure you get the right Stock ROM. That's why I asked which region model you're using.

i'm not sure if this is the one that you're looking for, mine is note 4 N910U.
i also read your post on the other thread and unfortunately, i paid cash.. though the store has a warranty where their tech can check what's wrong on the phone, but if something needs to be replaced, i will shoulder it. they have return policy but only for 3 days. this is the downside of getting cheaper price than from samsung stores.

How much were you even saving?
Well since the "U" is an international model, what is current firmware flashed on your phone? Go to settings and update us
Download the latest Stock ROM here,

Before downloading, let us know the current firmware and country of origin, so you that you can flash the appropriate ROM.

i also read your post on the other thread and unfortunately, i paid cash.. though the store has a warranty where their tech can check what's wrong on the phone, but if something needs to be replaced, i will shoulder it. they have return policy but only for 3 days. this is the downside of getting cheaper price than from samsung stores.

Yes for downloading firmware u need to sign & login.

im now downloading the firmware.. fingers crossed..
while im still downloading the firmware, i removed the simcard and batter for about 20 minutes. then i put them back and then the touch worked after a few minutes, it went back to the same problem.. im not sure if this is a hardware issue.

U can't use fingers while u use pen if ur pens is close to screen.

yes, but I already tried putting the spen back to its place and even getting it far, still finger wont work.
already tried flashing the Stock ROM, but the problem is still there. :crying:

I also have almost same symptom as yours.
Did u install any screen protector?
If yes try to remove it and clean the screen. Work for me.
If not, u might need to send to repair shop.

it has screen protector on it. i tried to peel off the upper part, not the whole thing and tried to touch and swipe, but it still won't work. what happen to yours? i hope this isn't really an issue with the note 4..

i'm using a cheap tempered glass myr20 (around 5usd)
the tempered glass seems like it drain water and my hand easy to get sweaty.
it was obvious when i run a game where the touch keep pressing.
during other time like after a call my screen will be unresponsive and only s-pen is working.
will change to a bit expensive tempered glass. it myr99 (around 27.25USD).

permanent bootloop samsung note 4 sm-n910p

ok heres the issue....im not sure what i did wrong. i flashed a rom and got boot looped, so i said what the heck and went to odin thinking id flash stock firmware back...i did and still bootloop, then i deleted dalvik cache...still boot loop...so i flashed twrps and tried reflashing new rom...still bootloop.....wtf... so i tried odin again...bootloop...i need to fix this asap...any help..obviously this is serious if i cant get the bootloop to stop. recovery and download mode are working so no hard brick.

You flashed a custom rom?
well did you check the bootloader and modem?
example: your old firmwara was based on a coh4 and the new custom is based on coj3.. then you get bootloops.
In this case please download the fitting bl & modem to your rom!

what version are you from the start before you flashed? please provide complete information

well ive done that like 3 times and it still wont come out of bootloop. its as if the phones bricked...turns on then tries to start up but turns right back off. it sometimes goes as far as saying android is starting and optimizes a few apps and shuts off

I originally was on android 5.1.1 cog5 build for sprint...then went to cm 12.1 remix by sabermod....when i used odin to flash back to original firmware, it kept bootlooping. anything helps

Trying going back to a 5.0.1 firmware
N910PVPU3BOF5 ( I pulled that from N910P) Didn't remember Sprint model number.
So if I'm wrong find the correct model of sammobile and download 5.0.1.
See what that does. Bootloader should not be locked so it should be possible,

what version where you trying to get back?? if its lower 5.1.1 it might be impossible for now since the new bootloader wont let you downgrade,, if not just try wipe cache and factory reset

I was on the correct firmware. but for some reason even if I use odin to flash newer firmware coj6 it still doesn't boot up.

update: i can use cyanogenmod for a few minutes but then it shuts off again. my sprint sim card is not readable which is wierd since its a sprint rom cog5 baseband. any ideas :crying::crying:

i downloaded and installed the correct bootloader and modem but still no bueno. i got cyanogenmod for trltespr to work and boot up but sim card not readable and it shuts down after a few minutes. thats really wierd considering its a sprint based rom. any ideas

I having a similar issue for a few months now. Nobody seems to have a clear answer. I am not a noob and have flashed back to factory a million times on other phones.. I have spent hours trying everything with no luck. Sprint store will not help... pretty frustrating. Let me know if you find a solution.

Have you tried a new battery yet?

me too, i also have a bootloop for a couple of months now. tried literally every single combination of bootloaders/modems/kernels/ROMs . i can't even get into recovery, but can get into download mode.
do you guys think trying another battery may seriously help? how could a new battery help getting out of a bootloop if download and/or recovery mode work fine?

I don't think another battery will do anything. I think it is all software. I can flash CM11 btw, so you should try that. But my system is extremely unstable... it works... but is beyond frustrating. my smart watch wont work.. have to restart phone throughout day.... so many problems I cant even list them all.

A battery? How in the world would that help? That makes no sense... no offense, just sounds like you are asking someone to unnecessarily to spend $$$ when it is clearly software.

I'm having the same problems and want to know if op has tried it so I'll know if it's been ruled out of the problem thats why. Ok so it's software. You have the solution. No offense.

I think this is a samsung issue. I am going to try and see if i can replace motherboard bc thats the only logical option. I can remarkably download and run (for a few minutes) cm12.1 but my sprint sim card is unrecognized (wierdly). I dont think its the modem or bootloader....ill update yall if i find a fix. Thanks P.I

The only solution i can find is to replace the motherboard or replace phone all together.

Were you able to get it fixed? I'm probably going to go to a phonerepair shop this weekend or next week and see what they say or can do.
