A while back, I tried to remap my keys to restore the old menu/recent programs behaviour by editing my generic.kl file. Since then, I have been unable to connect to my mobile data network, despite my wifi working flawlessly. I can connect with another device and the same SIM, so I know it's the device and not the service. The device is (obviously) rooted, and I've gone through a factory reset with no change. Everything else on the device now works as expected, but it is, of course, of rather limited use to me without the mobile networking operational (this is, after all, its most common function). I'm wondering whether I might have potentially corrupted, deleted, or changed permissions for another file without realizing it while going through the keymap fiasco?
After giving up on this device some time ago, I stumbled across the solution today while doing something else. Apparently, these settings were lost. I'm posting the solution here in case anyone else has this problem later.
Go to settings -> more networks -> mobile networks - > access point names
enter the values provided at this link. Add a new access point if none present.

Thanks man this post fixed my phone. Just bought it from some people who "forgot" to mention it couldn't connect to the network.
great.. it really works. thanks alot. May God bless you.

Hi. This happened to me twice on my Dopod 900 so I'm guessing something is wrong here. I have a 128bit WEP enabled home WiFi network. The Dopod works well on this network but I was asked on two occasions to enter the WEP key again. I enter it and it works for a few days and then all of a sudden it is asked of me again... Anyone else seen this behavior? Any ways to avoid it? Thanks
You're not the only one.
The Universal loses my access points (completely disappears from the list) and wants to re-pair my Bluetooth devices (GPS and headset) (sometimes they are listed, sometimes they disappear from the list, too) every so often. I'm surprised no one else has talked about this either.
I've seen it also. If your universal seems unusually slow to connect ot the access point, you better have to stop it, or it will loose your access poitn info. After a soft reset, everything goes back to normal.
This behaviour is appening rarely though, and is not a major bug to me, as it only appens once every 100 connections. It can also depend on your access point.
I connect my o2 Exec with my own and four different customer's ADSL-router/gateway/WiFi devices and have not experienced this, even when a couple of weeks elapse between my site visits. I normally configure full WPA-PSK/TKIP encryption, MAC address restrictions and use DHCP allocated addresses. A VPN is then used to connect from the wireless side through another firewall to the internal network.
Is there any correlation between the WiFi routers that have given you all problems. I use various ZyXEL models.
Getting really strange... All of a sudden, I'm getting prompted for my Exchange password that I connect to 4Smartphone.net... It seemed to have forgotten the password?
WTF?!?
lose wep
same for me
So it is not only my ****ty non -updated sfr rom ;-)
Are you getting a NO GSM message on your boot screen and/or is your IMEI missing from the Device Information applet?
I'm trying to see if the two issues are related.
I got the NO GSM message, and from that point forward, I lost the pairing of my Bluetooth devices and the wireless access points.
My theory: Any passwords or authentications are encrypted using the IMEI of the phone portion. When the IMEI is not present (shows a blank under Device Information) due to the NO GSM issue, the Windows Mobile OS instantly wipes out those "invalid" passwords or authentications or simply invalidates them, causing you to reauthenticate the device to other devices.

I don't know if it is relevant, but in the last 10 days I've come up with the PHONE OFF display without any reason. When this happens the phonepad appears out of nowhere, instead of my carrier's logo, it says Phone Off and the 9000 freezes.
Only soft reset solves the problem No I didn't have any problems YET with the WEP keys in my wifi connections...
Should I be worried though??? :roll:
I'm not getting a NO GSM message on my boot screen or my IMEI is missing not from the Device Information applet. Sorry for not being able to confirm your hunch. The only times this happened to me was when I was at an extreme edge of the WiFi coverage and signal was very low. I was flipping in & out of it and eventually the WEP key prompt popped up. Very strange. Moral of the story for the time being for me, stay near that AP... Oh by the way, its a Netgear for what its worth.
Save and Restore Wifi Settings
My understanding is if there is any problem connecting to Wifi, WM6 deletes the Wifi settings for that access point. I think my friends have come up with a quick solution to this problem. Wifi Hero is a little application you can get for $2 that saves and restores your wifi settings using standard Windows Mobile APIs. Search for "Wifi Hero" and you should find it or the direct link is http://www.wireless-apps.net/desc.php?d=d1&id=246823
The coders work for Implicit Software (www.ImplicitSoftware.com) if anyone is interested in a site licence for this tool you can contact them through their web page.
Have you guys tried going to start>settings>connections>wifi>power> and putting it at "best performance." I've heard of similar (also experienced) issues when the bar was at best battery.
Apologies for asking for help with a problem I have caused myself.
I switched off some services without saving my previous settings, and now both USBtool and Internet Sharing aren't working. Everything else works, and in the absence of a more direct connection, I can get files to WinMo by e-mail.
There is a chance that it is coincidental, and I did something else, but if anyone knows which services USBtool and Internet Sharing rely on, that would be handy.
I have attached my settings as a tab-separated file, if anyone is kind enough to help.
Cheers,
Matthew
Not gone through all the list but just from the first few lines I can see many of the Networking services are disbled! Even Security Center also.
Have you tried System Restore to a date before you did whatever you did?
Not knowing what else has been effected it will probably be down re-install if that fails.
Thanks for that. The interesting thing is that my normal internet access is unaffected, either on WiFi or 3G, and the Vista side is definitely faster now, so I felt quite pleased with myself.
However, your suggestion does provide me with a smaller group to switch on one-by-one.
I might try a system restore too if I really need to - if I didn't switch that off too

Hey all. I've searched posts and can't find anything but what other people used for a quick backyard fix to get them past. Here's the deal. My phone connects to the Verizon Data Network all the time, even when I'm connected to WiFi. On my Apache, I could go into Settings, Connections, Connections and set the advanced settings so programs needing to connect automatically would use My Work Network instead of Verizon Wireless. However, on my 6800, I change the same setting for the same effect and as soon as I hit ok, it reverts back so it tries connecting to the net via cellular again instead of via WiFi. This isn't the only setting I've found that won't stick, but I can't remember what those ones are. Has anyone found the cause to this and the solution? Possibly a file that's write-protected and shouldn't be or something. I don't have a data plan and can't afford one so I really need this to change and still be able to get MMS when I need to (don't want to disable data completely on Verizon's end). Help!
Mod Edit: Moved from Titan Upgrading
Today I went to my university after a long time and tried to get access to the university network (eduroam) with an app called Wifi Helper (you have probably already heard about it). After a few tries my wifi suddenly stopped working and now goes off everytime I try to search for networks. Even now at home when I try to connect to my home network it doesn't work and my phone doesnt find neither my network or the networks from the neighbors. Also all the networks saved in my phone disappeared and I can't add any new network configuration.
To summarize:
-if I turn the wifi on the phone makes a scan for wifi-networks but doesn't find any
-the wifi goes off after 15-20 seconds
-I can't add new networks
I made a search in the forum but didn't find anything similar. I'm not 100% sure wifi helper caused this but I would say I'm 99,99% sure.
Until now I've tried uninstalling wifi helper, rebooting the phone, taking out the battery but nothing seems to help....so I would recommend not to use this app (if it's allowed to make such a recommendation).
I wish this has a solution and the wireless can work again. Hopefully someone can help me here or give me a couple of ideas (since this doesn't seem to be a common issue)
Edit: can someone tell me what files you have in /data/misc/wifi ? I checked in my phone with root explorer and I only found reg_code and wpa_supplicant.conf ...maybe wifi helper deleted something there.
Try a factory restet, its a bit of a pain but it should fix it
You mean to flash to the original firmware? X_X
I hope that's not the only way...
Maybe there's something missing in my wifi folder that I could compare with other phones.
I think wifi helper deleted almost everything in my wpa_supplicant.conf
This is all I got in there:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
can someone check if thats ok?
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
network={
Network info goes here
}

wifi helper screw-up your wpa_supplicant.conf, it happened to me 2.
Update the "ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/wpa_supplicant GROUP=system" like Bourbon Brain mentioned and your wifi will work normal again (hope you know how to do that).
Thanks for your help
I had to backup all my data to do the factory reset (I had totally forgotten about it ) and it took me quite a lot of time to set everything back to normal but it worked. After that the only difference I could find was in wpa_supplicant.conf so I guess if I had changed it to what Bourbon Brain and gpmg762 said it would have worked too (even much easier). Unfortunately I didn't wait till today
Glad to help regardless

hello all,
The last week I was using my wifi without problems in any wifi, I left the wifi on and after a while my phone shutdowned (lost charge). After this, my phone isn't connecting to any wifi (even those that it was able). I did a factory reset and he doesn't detect the networks.
I though I had the same issue with my x10 but editting the file didn't take effect on my phone. Tryed to delete the wpa_supplicant config file, edit it, downloaded various wifi fixers, and nothing seems to work. Could you help me?
Thank you
Creating a new topic, because the other one is tagged as solved, but it doesnt solve my problem however.
So my wifi is not working, it's connecting to any wifi hotspot but not sending data thru that, which ends in failing loading any pages on IE, cannot download any apps from market and so on...
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
1. Flashed to stock rogers (also tried different Tango roms)
2. Did hard reset procedure via hardware keys (Format all Yes)
3. Did hard reset procedure via About menu
4. Did hard reset procedure via Samsung Diagnosis code sequence
5. Logged to my wifi network, everything looks fine at this point.
6. Opened IE and entered google.com:
"We're having trouble connecting to this webpage" (sometimes no error message but white page with scrolling bars appearing on touch)
7. Tried to access my wifi router via IP address (192.168.1.1) - the same results like above
8. Tried to ping my Samsung Fous IP (192.168.1.18) from my PC with success
9. Disabled wifi network security on home wifi router, the Focus still not working
Additionaly tried a method that fix issues with wifi after using latest wp7 tools, but it didnt help at all.
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
What else I can do, maybe there are some diagnosis codes that can actually help with real diagnosis on what happened with wifi on my phone?
Hello again (from the other thread). For completeness, add the following:
- current OS version
- did/not use WindowBreak
- when did the problem start (if you can identify an event and OS version/revision) - or you noticed
There might be a test for wireless in the "diagnosis codes"... Good luck!
After you use the diagnosis fix, it might take some time, mine didn't work immediately but after some time, it detected my home network. But it seems you are able to connect but internet does not work, this is certainly issue with router/DNS settings in your phone, because I have faced these problems in iPhone, it might wrongly mapped to unreachable ip, but never faced this issue in Windows Phone, you might try changing the default gateway/dns settings, you should also reset your modem/router, and try basic setup before WPA/WPA2 setup

Hi there
Currently using 7.10.8773.98, (MAGLDR 2.0) but tried different versions, even vanilla pre-mango ones, they didnt work well with wifi on my phone either. I checked it at friends home wifi, which is totaly different network and routers.
I never used WindowBreak, never had to because my phone was already unlocked long time ago with ChevronWP7 application.
Noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago, but I didnt use wifi too much, so it could started much earlier. Last installed application was WP7 Tools 0.8 alpha, and all I did back then was using some built-in tweaks (3G?) if there is any, cant remember to be honest but for sure I wasnt editing registry or anything like that, I just play some games from time to time, cant event tell why I installed it, maybe because I noticed there is a new version. I cant tell because I never paid attention to it especially with rare wifi usage at a time.
I have isolated the problem I guess, and it's not the phone's fault. Something wrong with the main access point (Mikrotik) at my place. This is weird because everything is working just not on Samsung Focus. I digged thru many options and couldnt find anything that blocked or stuff like that. Well took it to totaly different place and another wifi network, and guess what - it's connecting to wifi with data flow...
Anyway consider this topic as solved.
