"No service" problem and hangs when casting screen to Chromecast - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a new S3 Neo (I9301I according to "About device"), unrooted, with stock ROM.
I occasionally get a "no service" icon, which means there is no cellular service - and indeed, if I try to make a call when the icon appears, the phone tells me I can't call because there is no cell service.
I'm in Israel, Rami-Levy virtual operator. Used to have an S2 with custom ROMs, where I didn't have this problem at all, so I assume this is related to the ROM (or settings) and not to the operator.
In addition, I have a Chromecast device at home; when I try to "Cast screen" from my S3 Neo to it, it works for a few seconds (up to a minute) and then the phone hangs and I must restart using the power button.
I'll appreciate it if you can tell me how to diagnose or fix these problems. Thanks.

The only way that chromecast screen cast worked for me is when I flashed a custom rom. It's the only way. For some reason pure stock just makes the phone hang.

Thanks.
When you say "custom ROM", are you referring to CM or RR? Or to one of the custom ROMs which are based on stock?

The ones based on stock work too. All custom roms (aosp and stock based) work with screen cast except pure stock.

Jb ota n8000xxbli2

This is one of the two versions of JB OTA updates that were released in the middle of september. This one was only releasde by Sammobile and it gave an error trying to flash it thru stock recovery. I didnt at the time think about trying with Mobile Odin, BUT I DID TODAY!
N8000XXBLI2 has some changes from the DDALI1 JB OTA update. As i can remember the LI1 version didnt have S-Pen settings in settings like ICS firmware has, XXBLI2 has! It also has something called Cloud in settings, havent tested yet but it seems to be something like dropbox. Also with this JB version gallery is fully functional and its possible to set background thru it with out FC. Its 1 day older then the LI1 but seems more stable. I havent tested any Multiscreen functions yet or any of the S-apps if its any more changes from LI1 version.
If anyone is intrested in flashing this heres a guide:
First you need to be on N8000XWALH1( Philippines, Globe) base, so download that from Sammobile. You also need to download 2 diffrent OTAs: N8000XWALI3 and the JB OTA N8000XXBLI2.
Now Odin flash base firmware N8000XWALH1and root that( if you didnt flash with Mobile Odin and everroot) let it boot and apply first OTA N8000XWALI3 thru Mobile Odin and choose everoot, let it run and boot.
Now apply JB OTA N8000XXBLI2 same here choose everroot. This one Mobile Odin will give some error messages about( one for Modem not being the same as base and one for 8 files of 400 dont matching the check) just ignore thoose and let Mobile Odin run its thing and let it boot.
It doesnt matter if you have CWM installed before flashing with Mobile Odin, it uses its own recovery.
I dont give any support and its not my fault if you destroy your device. Its not rocket science, just download 3 files and apply them with Mobile Odin.
Thought we needed something to do in the weekend and its acctually much more complete then the LI1 OTA.
Good Luck
Thanks,
How is the modem version in the OTA( Globe Phillipines) working in Sweeden?
Any issues?

No issues at all so far, 3G working fine and signal seems strong
Has anybody tried it on the N8013? Wondering if it restarts like the last update.

I'd wait. If the OTAs are rolling out, JB can't be far behind for the 8013.
I am gonna try it later in n8010. Will give u report and Make a video

Like nickwarn says, it works fine.
S-Pen settings are in place but no multitasking and no IR yet.
Base firmware N8000XWALH1 only has a few languages but after flashing the JB OTA you will have many more.

What do you mean with no multitasking? Are you referring to the splitscreen function? If so it is there and working fine, it's just a bit different.

Yep, almost.
Here you have it on the mini app bar. You actually chose a layout there. You can divide your screen in 2, 3 or 4 parts and run the apps there.
The apps on the "previously called mini app bar"-bar has grown from 10 to 17, so you have the browser there and some other stuff.
If you run one of them full screen, and you want to get back to split screen, either put your finger at the top on the screen (then a menu will slide down where you can put it back in split screen) or bring up the mini app bar and chose the layout and it should go from full screen to split screen.
I don't know if you can call them mini apps any longer, they've kind of integrated the mini apps with full apps and split screen..

[Q] [NOT FIXED- GS4 Lots of issues with radio signal and calls!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi guys, first of all let me share al my specs in order to place my question properly:
PHONE MODEL: Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M (the original stock kernel was: Build Date: 30.05.2013 -> Region: TCE (Mexico) PDA: I337MUMUAMDL Changelist: 518267 Android: 4.2.2)
Actual Rom: CyanogenMod -version: 10.2 10.2-20130923-nightly -jftlecan
Compilation number: cm_jfltecan-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G eng.jenkins.20130923.022829 test-keys
Recovery Mode: CWM via Rom Manager Pro app
So saying that I will say this: I came from stock to CM wiping Factory Reset and data/cache only and I used Odin for rootint the device....no problems at all, runs like a charm...
MY ISSUE #1: A couple of auto-updates ago (via Rom Manager), I start to notice that the radio bars (telephony signal, mobile internet signal bars) were from 1 to 2 bars in places I always get full bars (I live on a 7th floor with excelent signal at Mexico City). I searched on the forums (XDA developers and here) and it seems that ROOTED DEVICES SHOW THE REAL SIGNAL PROVIDED BY THE CAREER---->can someone confirm this? Is my phone showing the real signal strenght?, eventhough, keep reading to see that low signal bars are only the beginning...
So as i said, I didnt worry pretty much, because if the bars are little low, but i have a good quality service, who cares? but the REAL PROBLEM appears when another update came and when Im trying to use my mobile internet (4g or 3G, doesnt matter) the signal cuts exactly at the moment of loading a page or any info....it as happened with almost all apps (specially Facebook, Waze and Google Maps)
It happens as follows:
1.- Open any app, like Dolphin browser or Firefox
2.- Page starts to load info (LTE showing download and upload state)
3.- LTE-3G or whatever, shuts down (I see only the telephony signal bars and there is no internet signal)
4.- Wait few seconds, LTE-3G whatever is back...have to try again and agin until LTE remains steady (sometimes it wont until I reboot)
ISUE #2- DURING CALLS:
- Sometimes people cant hear me, but I can hear them...restart the phone and the issue fixes it self...buts is very annoying to restart my phone every single time somebody calls me and they cant hear me
I dont know what to do guys? Shall I wait until final CM10.2 comes to light? Somebody has this bug also? Is this bug part of CM? or there is another app making this rare behaivour...(do you recommend me another ROM for this model of GS4??)
EDIT: I tried to flash the original modem.bin (via ODIN) which is used by my carreer (TELCEL, son of Slim AKA "The richest man on Babylon :silly: is the company´s name). So until now, I can tell that in my first attempts of opening pages or facebook, the randomly LTE turning off-on continues...I will keep testing with this "orginal" flashed modem....

It's defiinitely a modem issue. You can flash new modems and try. (backup efs before doing so, actually if you dont already have one - do it before now and save yourself some grief)
If that's not fixing the issues...
I'd backup what you need and start fresh. It would be the easiest way to resolve all your issues. Maybe even try a different kernel set for your region and phone.
Kies has a useful firmware recovery option that sets you back to stock.
The Kies will use your model number and serial to get you your stock firmware and reset you back. Id wipe all data under settings then do it. After its done, do another factory reset in recovery.

Thanks for that advice, i guess Im going to do all that if a new kernel doesnt fix the issue (I havent found any kernel for my region which supports Android 4.3, only 4.2.2, and someone told me is not correct to install such a kernel). Good day to you!

So after done all the "back to stock" steps, I still get this questions:
1.- Would I still be ROOT but with stock firmware (Touchwiz) and cool features originally made for Samsung GS4? (such as air gestures, etc etc)
2.- If im "unrooted" by the steps described in your link, can I upgrade to 4.3???
Thanks you are so kind!
Check out GoldenEye ROM or MDOB ROM in the development forum. They are extremely stable, super fast, tw and excellent battery life. CM is awesome, but is seriously way to flawed for our S4's right now to use for day to day life.

Well I just went back to original stock firm ware via Kies, and now the radio signal issues are gone!! CM 10.2 didn't work well for me as the stock rom is now working in my phone. Something tells me that some times it's better to just rooting (for enjoying cool apps as Greenify) and not installing custom Roms (because all this kernel carnival is just to much, and appart of all we have to install radio firmware? Just no!)

Issue flashing 'Google' edition ROMs...

Hi, I'm probably being very idiotic atm but I can't think of any logical issues.
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S4 i337.. I downgraded from NB1 to MK2, got root, installed safestrap, and attempted to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544474
It was my understanding this came with Loki-Doki (saw it floating around in a different thread asking if it worked, can find it if nessecary) as a patch. So I downloaded and backed up my stock install, and attempted to install this.
Now the problem is when I boot, it returns me to a bootloop, if you could call that progress.. It vibrates occasionally while bootlooping (samsung - safeboot - blackscreen - vibrate - samsung....). I still have access to safestrap, download mode and so on, if it helps at all. I've also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537495 WITH loki-doki (as it is explicitly stated) to no success either..
I'm looking for one of two solutions;
how to get stock firmware back, or how to properly install this? Or any variation thereof. . . I don't know what the problem is ahaha
Bumping to say multiple wipes>reflashes later the blue screen has yet to occur, not sure what that was... Bootlooping is the huge problem now!
You can't use that rom. You need a tw based rom. This one is aosp

So will it ever be possible to flash AOSP ROMs on NB1?
Not until the bootloader is unlocked. There is no telling when that will be.

Best bet is to find a ROM that you like, then install the Google Experience Launcher apk. It will give your phone the stock google launcher.

Domination Theme will also extensively theme your touchwiz rom to give it a more complete AOSP look without an AOSP rom.
All right thanks for the help guys.

Sm-9005 power problems

The phone turns off randomly and i'm unable to turn it back on unless i'll take out the battery for a moment or connect it to a charger.
When using the charger method, the phone will display the empty battery animation but turns on when i hold the power button.
I can't point a specific scenario that cause the shut down, however, it seems like the phone uses more power than the battery can provide.
For example:
Happens in various battery percentage.
Happens more frequently when using navigation or Bluetooth.
Happened with stock kit kat rom.
Happened with cm12 (philz touch 6 recovery).

at my 9005 work fine
CivZ-KK_Xplorer-Rev1.9-sm_n9005-4.4.2
it's very good
but i dont like cm 12
I want to try to replace the kernel, but since i'm using cm12 (5.0.2 lollipop) i can't determine by myself which one to install.
The n9005 kernels page here on xda show only kernel with kit-kat versions in the title or no info at all.
Ultimate kernel page for example doesn't say if it will work.
Olso, do i need to touch the rom or i can just install the kernel from the recovery and then reboot into my already installed cm12 rom.
Thanks for the advices.

[ISSUE][FIXED] Note 3 N900w8 Back Button Only Works With Custom Roms

Hello everyone.
For the past two weeks I have been having this frustrating issue. Since I couldn't find a suitable rom for my canadian note 3, I decided to go back to stock rom but when I flash one through ODIN, back button just doesn't work!
when I went back on flashing custom roms, it works perfectly! what's the problem? I did install the latest official stock rom! :crying:
-----------------
I forgot to mention, the back button works when I use the S-Pen in stock roms. the back button just hates my fingers
There may be a problem of button configuration on the stock room.
Of you have root access then you can change the button layout.
Once compare the button layout of the stock rom with the custom rom.

I got your problem. Sometimes back I had the same problem on a Sony Xperia phone. Part of the display was not taking touch input.
Initially i thought the digitizer was corrupted. I also changed my ROM but no luck.
And then I just stick to one rom. Finally after some days it just got solved automatically.
I suggest you to check the stock rom with a custom rom kernel which will work with the stock rom.

See... Different roms are built by different developers and you may not know how much buggy they are.
