Congrats to all ( both ZE551ML and ZE550ML users), bootloader has been unlocked without connecting to ASUS servers.
2.19.40.20 is also unlockable
New update 2.19.40.20 can be unlocked as well and Asus did not patch the hole. Thanks to @oxydius7 for confirming this here
Bootloader of both ZE550ML and ZE550ML can be unlock if rom is on 2.19.40 or 2.19.40.20
Lets discuss, problems and unlocking related experience here.
How to unlock bootloader:
1. Update to 2.19.40.18 or 2.19.40.20
2. root it
3. make sure adb is insatlled and working
4. enter the following commands in cmd
adb shell (press enter)
su (press enter)
getprop ro.isn > /factory/asuskey ( press enter)
reboot bootloader ( press enter )
Phone will restart in bootloader and after updating itself phone will restart again and ASUS splash screen will be white ( locked bootloader has black screen, you will see difference by yourself)
5. download black splash screen for 551 from here
https://mega.co.nz/#!IlMGiZ7I!kepXRFda7cgNPWHQovkCZaMaD2zVF4UufAJT6YEDU3k
or for 550 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3376376&d=1435127302
6. navigate to adb folder open cmd and type the following commands
adb reboot bootloader (press enter)
fastboot devices (press enter)
see if device is listed, write following
fastboot flash splashscreen splashscreen.img (press enter)
restart your phone and now black splash screen is back. Congrats your bootloader is now unlocked.
If you follow my steps there would not be any data loss from internal memory and sd card, but i will advice to take a backup in case if you are out of luck

I dont belive so, the needed files are part of the 2.19 update. I also had a problem with the update so I had to reset phone, then sideload a full copy of 2.18 and then sideload the 2.19 update and reroot phone.

Hi,
Thanks in advance for anyone who tries to help me.
A few weeks ago I tried to gain root access to HTC Eris. I followed the prereq and part one of the guide but stopped there. Rebooted my phone, checked the version (2.1) and went about reinstalling apps and such.
Now I want to install a different ROM so I went back and tried to start from the beginning and put PB00IMG.zip on my phone, went to hboot, let run but then I get the message "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot device?"
So when I move onto III in the walk through, I get an error on the command
adb push flash_image /system/bin
It would seem like I've lost root right? Is there anyway I can check to see if I accidentally installed the leak w/o root?
Thanks,
Nate
Easy way is to do
adb shell
if the prompt is
$
your likely on leak
if the prompt is
#
your on root.
Once your on root, flash recovery.
I am anticipating the next question, so here is your answer. If you did indeed root your phone, you should have loaded a recovery image as jcase mentioned.
First, load the new ROM onto the root of your sd card. Next, power off your phone. Then, hold down the vol up button and turn on your phone. It should boot into the recovery console. From here to load another ROM, you need to perform a wipe and then load your new ROM by flashing. You should see a Wipe and Flash from Zip menu option in recovery.
In the Wipe menu, choose the first two options in order (factory reset and cache). Wait for each to complete. Next, pressing vol down should get you back to the main menu. From here choose Flash from Zip and then select the ROM zip file you loaded onto your sd card and wait for the update to complete. Last, reboot your phone from the menu.

I don't remember if the the leak that included su had adb set to root by default.

Technically, modifying your device would void warranties. Even if they could "restore" the device, it would still have the newer bootloader that is causing the rooting issue. Some people have "lost" or "broken" the device bad enough that they could get a replacement from Verizon. However, there is mixed results as to what bootloader the refurbished devices come back with.
I posted before about the safety of re-rooting my eris from 1.5 to a rooted 2.2 rom, and due to lack of responses on any forums over the web, I jumped the gun today. First off my Eris after un-rooting it, wouldn't take the OTA update for 2.1, it downloaded and verified that, but after it rebooted, it was still at 1.5 saying no new updates are available. I cannot download the eris 1 click root app as it's only for 2.1 I'm assuming because it says it's not compatible with 1.5 firmware when I download it. I tried to follow this guide [Walkthrough] From stock (1.5) to rooted 2.1 (update - new link) - xda-developers and when I installed the PB00IMG.zip it downloaded but failed to flash and the screen read "Main version is older". I tried this guide All-In-One Auto-Root Script - Page 4 - xda-developers and when it says it's flashing the root image, it goes straight to a screen with only two options "recovery" something and "fastboot". None of which are listed as options in the guides. I am just trying to root my 1.5 eris and flash the KaosFroyo V3 eris rom with Amon Ra's recovery image. Thanks if anyone can help my problem, or shed light on the situation! Sorry if there's been a fix to this problem already stated, I've desperately been browsing many forums and hundreds of replies to no avail. Thanks again.
It looks to me like you got a pretty reasonable answer to the same question over on Android Forums

Root 4.2
METHOD 1 (RECOMMENDED)
_________________________________________________
thanks to Gnurou
"So, I have finally updated my SHIELD rooting method to support Tegra Note 7 as well, so you guys don't need to install weird programs on your PCs:
https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root
Rooting by itself is quite easy, you need to have adb and fastboot on your system then:
1) Enable USB debugging in the developer options and plug your TN7
2) Download https://github.com/linux-shield/shie...7.img?raw=true
3) In a shell, issue "adb reboot-bootloader"
4) In the same shell, go into the directory containing root_tn7.img and run "fastboot boot root_tn7.img".
Rooting will take ~15 seconds and the tablet will reboot. You should then have SuperSU installed and working.
Note that these are not exactly the instructions mentioned on the README file of my Github repository. That's because TN7's bootloader is not interactive as SHIELD's for the moment, I hope this will be fixed.". All thanks to Gnurou
4.2 Chinese root method
METHOD 2
______________________________________________________
Ok so for starters the tegra note does come with an unlocked boot loader so that a big plus. To root I followed these steps..
"There is another method to root the tegra note easily if you know chinese......
You may download the software called Jin Shan Mobile Assistant at the site below:
google it --> (zs.ijinshan.com)
EDIT: HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE ROOT TOOL
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Sc2UBbSHchb1pBUGpPN2N1Sm8/edit?usp=sharing
click and download the PC ver. setup file at right handside.(wrote 支持设备:安装win8/Win7/Vista/XP系统)
After installation, plug in your tegra note via USB. Press the ROOT大師 at the bottom left corner.
It will checked your device model as P1640. Then press "確定". It will simply root your device immediately.
:good::good::good:"
Thanks to hotsuma2000
Once I was rooted using the method above I installed Supersu from market and it replaced the superuser from the above method.. I then removed all apps that were installed from using the Chinese root.
STEPS
__________________________________________
The .exe file to download is about 30mb.
Once you download the file run it using Windows.
Open the program after installation.
Make sure USB debugging is checked on your device. (FYI to get developer options go to settings about tablet and press on build number until a message pops up saying you have Dev options.)
Plug the tegra note into your PC and the program should then recognize your device at which point you will see the root option.
Click root and magic...
The root program will install it's own version of superuser but don't worry I will get to that.
Once rooted go to Google play and download Supersu by chain fire then open it. You should then be prompted to install.. It will say another superuser app is detected and ask to replace..
There you have it feel free to ask away anything on your mind
If I was a help to anybody please throw me a thanks

Where's the info? Please post the solution you found. I've been digging through forum after forum and have tried 3 or 4 "one-click" root tools. So far nothing has worked. I really want to use Titanium Backup on this device.
UPDATE I finally got root on my Tegra NOTE 7!!! The process was a bit haphazard and inept but after enough tinkering I was able to get it done! Since the method is a bit involved I would recommend waiting for an easier solution. That being said, for those, like me, who just can't wait feel free to PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.
feel free to pm me for instructions or direction

Fantastic! It didn't work the first time I tried it, though I think that's because the program hadn't detected the tablet yet, but the second time it worked like a charm! Tried on another computer and it worked fine, installed SuperSU and cleaned up the extra apps. Thanks!!
Now next step is getting a custom recovery so we can do backups

These instructions will work for the EVGA TN7, correct? Sorry to ask the question, but I had a thought there may be differences between the EVGA and AV models. Thanks for any reply.
Hi everybody,
First of all, I'm not claiming the properties of all the software present in this guide, all rights comes to the Developpers (proper credits are at the end of this post).
Secondly, I know there is a lot of guide on How to S-Off the M7 but since I've spent 2 days on it because of the hboot and the firmware I have, I would like to share my knowledges with other people if some others persons have this issue as well.
Forgive my faults, French is my native langage !
Here are the prerequisites that must be met
- Make sure you have Htc drivers properly installed. For that, I will not give you some packages found in the depths of the web, but I will redirect you to Htc Sync Manager. As soon as you will plug your M7, this soft will install automatically all the wanted drivers
Code:
http://www.htc.com/fr/software/htc-sync-manager/
- Make sure you have ADB and fastboot installed. You can get it here
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
- Make sure you are on hboot 1.55. For catch this info, you can go into the bootloader by Power off your device and reboot it by pressing the Power button and Volume down button together OR in adb with
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
(Note that for this option you have to activate Debugging option in Developper Tools into the Settings app of your ROM)
I've written this guide because when I bought my M7, my OS was 3.63.73.2 (you can find this info in the bootloader too). I've done no update before putting several ROM custom on my phone (MIUI, and now Insertcoin) and I've read in several forum that this OS version cause some issue with the S-Off process (I don't know if this is true but on MIUI and on Insertcoin, the S-Off process didn't work so I assume this is in some ways true). You can use this guide for S-Off your M7 when you are on hboot 1.55 and every OS version however
Ok now here we go !!!
- You have to be on a ROM as stock as possible, Android Revolution HD 31.6 is the one I've used. May be others work but I can't tell you that it's the case ! There is the download link, take care of the version you download, the 31.6 is the one we need (certainly because of the android version):
Code:
http://www.androidrevolution.org/downloader/download.php?file=Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip
- Flash the ROM with the settings you want, but I advise you to let it as light as possible, you'll see why after
- When the ROM has booted, go to Settings>About the phone>Software info>More>And tap 7 times to hav the developper rights. Now go into the developper options and activate "USB Debugging"
- Now open a command prompt (what, you don't know how to do that ? Ok so google it or don't S-Off your device, you have to have some basic knowledges before begin system modifications !!!) and verify that your device is recognized by adb
Code:
adb devices
If this is the case, your serial number must be on the screen. If you'll see nothing, it's probably that you've not or not correctly installed the drivers ! (you know, this horrible thing that we have to do everytime we switch our phone/pc, the most boring step ^^)
- Download firewater software and place it on your desktop for example. There is the link:
Code:
http://firewater-soff.com/
- Launch the minimal adb and fastboot soft that you've downloaded, move where is firewater and push it to your data partition:
Code:
adb push firewater /data/local/tmp
- Launch an adb shell
Code:
adb shell
- Grant SU right (what is SU ? Dooooooh ...)
Code:
su
- Up your rights on firewater file
Code:
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
- Exit the adb shell
Code:
exit
- Reboot your device
Code:
adb reboot
- When your phone is rebooted, re launch an adb shell (or you can tell to adb to launch it automatically when the device is detected with the "wait-for-device" argument. Remember it, it's very usefull !)
Code:
adb shell
Code:
adb wait-for-device shell
- Grant SU rights again
Code:
su
- Launch firewater and accept the conditions
Code:
/data/local/tmp/firewater
Personally, after the seconds "bottle" I had a message who told me that my phone is S-Off. You can verify it by rebooting into the bootloader (Read the instruction in front of this guide for this) and check if the mention "S-Off" is here. If S-On is again here, retry from the adb reboot command
Congrats, your M7 is S-Off !!! Don't do too bad things
Before return to your favorite ROM, keep here, there is some nice things to do with revone tool . When I was on Insertcoin sixth sense ROM, I couldn't use it for S-Off my device or even delete the "Tampered" mention into the bootloader. BUT with ARDH I can .
Here is some nice things to do with it and how to use it (which arguments):
Code:
-u - Unlock the device
-l - Lock the device (as if it was never unlocked)
-r - Relock the device (mark the device as relocked)
-t - Reset the device's tamper flag.
For use this tool, download it from here: http://revolutionary.io/revone and do the same steps as for firewater (put in in data/local/tmp, chmod 755 on it, reboot, adb shell, cd into data/local/tmp and do ./revone with the argument you want, according with what you want to do !)
Here is some examples:
Code:
./revone -t (remove the tampered mention)
./revone -l (S-On your device after it was S-Off of course)
./revone -r (Relock the device if it was S-Off but with the mention relocked, I don't know why use it but I think it can be useful in some ways !)
So earlier in this guide, I've told to you to install ARDH with the less things possible, there is why. My advise is to keep a Nandroid Backup of this ROM instead of keeping the zip file (or you can do the two thing !). In this case, you'll have the possibility to come back to ARDH quickly without having to re install the whole zip so if you'll want to S-ON your device using revone tool or if you'll want to re S-Off your device because you have done a wrong manipulation, the best thing to do is to restore this backup and done all you want to do. Easy that's true ?
Credits:
- Firewater team for the awesome they've done for us, a big thanks to you !
- shimp208 for the "Minimal adb and fastboot package", very useful tool for to have adb whithout reinstall the whole SDK !
- ARDH team for there awesome ROM, give it a try !
- revelutionary team for the revone tool, awesome tool too !
So if you want now you can come back to your ROM like before ! I hope you'll enjoy this Guide, don't hesitate to post question if you want

This process got you S-Off on 1.56?? My replacement One has 1.56 and I've been waiting for a confirmed method to S-Off...
Yup. It took several tries but eventually it took taking the tampered flag with it. Don't be discouraged if it fails the first time. Reboot and try again. I'll add that I was 100% stock with HTC-Dev unlock. Newer OS release too (based on version numbers). I had to do it on 1.56 because I updated to KitKat on day one and didn't think I would be doing S-OFF.
Proof attached.
No such luck here. HBOOT 1.56 and 4.4.2 (T-Mo), Firewater explicitly states "whelp, this sucks, firewater can not work on your device no amount of reflashing, retrying, or ruuing will fix..."

This guide is for hboot 1.55 but with luck I think you can do it, like the other user has showed.
I think your issue is due to your firmware version. Did you try to flash the ROM that I've used for this guide ?

To be honest I don't know either. I went back to do it and the flag was gone and I know it was definitely there before I started due to using HTC-Dev unlock.
BTW I didn't mean to take away from the OPs intention of the thread. I was just mentioning that it worked for 1.56 as well.

I'm on ARHD 62. If I get desperate enough, I'll try 31.6. Thanks for figuring this out, though! Progress is progress, even if it doesn't apply to my specific circumstance.

S off on 4.4.2 is not as "automatic" as on 4.2.2 or 4.3, that's why you have to flash arhd 31.6 for s-off your device, I'm pretty sure it will work !

Hi SynnyG
I am not a novice, i had already install custom rom on Hero, Sensation, And One S, but it was some times ago.
So first of all, i have the same device as you HTC from Oragne FR with Hboot 1.55 and os 3.63.73.
My wich is to go out of orange, and i want to have an official RUU from HTC with 4.4 and the last sense.
First question, do i have to unlock my ONe from the HTC web site ?
Second, if i follow your tuto, could i launch an official RUU on my PC to install it on my ONE?
for the moment, USB debugg is selected, drivers installed but "no device" on the CMD, is it due because i did not perform the Unlocking on the HTC web site?

Hi !
If you want to leave Orange carrier, you just have to be S-Off, thanks to this, you'll be able to change your cid and install another RUU (for example the latest official)
For your no device issue, it's means that the drivers are not/not correctly installed. Install Htc Sync first, it will install all the drivers wanted for your One. After this, check with adb devices if your devices is recognized, if yes you're good to go. But Warning, before doing my tuto, unistall htc sync !
Have a nice day mate

If you try to install the ROM via the stock recovery that won't work ! Have you try to S-off your device without flashing the rom ? If yes but not working, you have to be htc-dev unlocked to flash twrp recovery (for example) and after flashing the ROM and retry ! After this you'll be able to change your cid to have the latest sense release from htc !

Do you mean mcg24.251-5 or mcg24.251-5-5 (with extra -5 at the end?) The one with the extra -5 at the end (mcg24.251-5-5) is the most current Verizon Droid Turbo firmware (released March 2017) which did NOT work with Sunshine. Whereas mcg24.251-5 (with only one -5) already does work with Sunshine.

i would assume you could install sunshine apk before or after temproot. does not matter which.
boot using temproot.
sunshine it up.
fastboot oem config fsg-id ""
if you dont run fastboot oem config fsg-id "" afterwards the phone will boot loop.
for those not planning on using sunshine and just want root there are alternative methods in post #2 of the temproot thread for avoiding the boot loop without needing to be near a computer.
Oh My Lord. @jcase and @autoprime do it again! Even though mine is unlocked my replacement 32gb isnt and this may make me buy a new screen for it to use! Looks like i know what im doing on my day off tomorrow. Transplanting this screen back onto its orginal donor and unlocking that sucker

Thanks. If I remember correctly, Sunshine reboots the phone automatically after doing its thing. Will holding down volume down to boot directly into bootloader after Sunshine completes interfere with Sunshine in any way? Because that's what I would need to do in order to issue that fastboot command without going into a bootloop. Or should I just tell people to go into bootloop, force power down, get into bootloader and issue the uninstall command?

no, pressing volume down or vol dwn + pwr should not interfere with sunshine.
whichever method people find easier.. i'd assume not everyone will be able to catch it on the initial reboot after sunshine completes.
i'd just avoid pressing buttons while sunshine is still running.. but once the screen shuts off have at it.
also, not sure how it is with the turbo but on my g4 play i do not have to force a 'power down' while phone is in bootloop. i just wait for bootloop cycle to turn screen off and then quickly press the button combo to go into fastboot (volume down + power for g4 play).
Great was to slow and now I have a bootloop. Restarted to fastboot but ADB can not find the device. Can anybody help me with the next steps. Bootloader is unlocked so all that is left now is getting the device to boot.
Figured it out myself!
Once you have a bootloop restart into fastboot and open up the the fastboot folder in "auto-initroot_xt1254_quark_vzw_mcg24.251-5-5".
Then open up a command promp and issue the => fastboot.exe oem config fsg-id "" command. That's all!

As for the code not working after a failure, I don't think you'll need another code if yours fails, but that would be a better question for Sunshine customer support if you want to be sure before trying it.

You mean update the link? The provided link is the most recent version of TWRP for our device (except for the one I made myself using only open source and was told not to give to anyone, but that's a story that doesn't need to be opened up again).
Well, technically that's not true. If you want the true latest official version from TWRP's website, here it is: https://dl.twrp.me/quark/twrp-3.1.1-0-quark.img.html
However, that version does not have all the improvements and special features that BHB implemented. For the purposes of unlocking your bootloader and basic flashing/backups, either version will work just fine.

What @TheSt33v said.
This link is to the most recent TWRP with @bhb27 mods for our Quark phones. @bhb27 is our official TWRP maintainer. He's why our TWRP has official status. But he also builds personalized versions which include some features/mods for our phones that other TWRP versions do not have, mods specifically for our Quarks. His modded versions are always better than the versions on the TWRP website (which again are only there due to his efforts).
On that page below you want the modded TWRP with the most recent date -- will always be the one listed at the bottom.

Hi everyone, I just want to share this tutorial for someone like me (NEWBIE, NOOB, BEGINNER, ZERO KNOWLEDGE).
ALL CREDITS TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER.
PRE-REQUISITES
- Laptop
- Applications, .img files (https://mega.nz/file/igphSCTD#OybJo9t1zwvJ0bdbAcN2BCqxWXAfHdhk3JFB4_5xkVc)
- Your Nubia Phone
ENSURE THAT:
- You installed the application and driver (Minimal ADB and Fastboot & the driver from your Nubia phone).
- You updated your OS in the latest version.
- You UNLOCK the developer option (setting>>about phone>>tap 7x the build number) and you switch ON the OEM unlocking & USB Debugging.
- You approved the RSA request in your RM5G
NUBIA RED MAGIC 5G UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
1. Connect your Nubia in laptop, in your laptop, open Minimal ADB and Fastboot and type the following:
a. adb reboot bootloader
b. fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX659J
c. fastboot flash recovery recovery-TWRP-3.4.1B-0324-NUBIA_REDMAGIC_5G-CN-wzsx150.img
d. fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta_BL_skip.img
e. fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
f. fastboot flash parameter parameter.img
2. Go to your RM5G, select reboot to recovery
3. It will reboot in TWRP twice, in the 2nd reboot it will stay in TWRP, change the language to English and select the keep read only.
4. Go to WIPE option, then select FORMAT DATA, type yes
5. Press home button, then go to REBOOT, select REBOOT to RECOVERY
NUBIA RED MAGIC 5G ROOTING PROCEDURE
6. Go to ADVANCED, below there are list, select INSTALL ROOT.
7. Reboot your RM5G.
At first, my RM5G restart twice, I was afraid that it was bootloop, the 3rd boots, it booted up and its rooted already.
Also, when I first registered my Finger Print, it’s malfunctioning, so I just deleted the OLD FP , register NEW FP and it works like a charm.
Now, I managed to flash the wonderful kernel of @mslezak.

Note for those that don't know how to enable developer options - go to settings, about phone, click build number 7x. It should take you right to the Developer Options menu. Nice clear concise guide by the way! Glad someone wrote a simpler one than the one I wrote initially, only so many hours in the day.

Thanks for mentioning the dev. option. All credit to all of you guys who made this possible.
I've been trying for days to download the MEGA zip, but no matter what I do it always stays on 0% and gives me an error. I tried on different browsers, on different computers, and using the desktop app, I even tried with the mobile app with no luck. Could someone please share a mirror or another link, please?
Nevermind, I was finally able to download the file, my solution was to use chrome instead of firefox and close every window except the mega one... I left it like that for a couple of hours and it finally downloaded it.
Possibly a stupid question, but are there any downsides to this other than the risk of bricking?
