[Root && Unlock] Droid Turbo 6.0.1 mcg24.251-5-5 - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

@autoprime got the initroot working with internet for Droid Turbo - https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4-play/development/root-autoinitroot-motorola-bootloader-t3639316/
This provides a temp root until reboot, after rebooting you have to go into the bootloader and run

While temprooted, SunShine will work to unlock the device again.

@jcase, please clarify...
Do you mean mcg24.251-5 or mcg24.251-5-5 (with extra -5 at the end?) The one with the extra -5 at the end (mcg24.251-5-5) is the most current Verizon Droid Turbo firmware (released March 2017) which did NOT work with Sunshine. Whereas mcg24.251-5 (with only one -5) already does work with Sunshine.

So just to be clear, the correct method would be to install sunshine, install temproot per the instructions that you linked to, sunshine it up, and uninstall the temproot by performing fastboot oem config fsg-id "" ?

i would assume you could install sunshine apk before or after temproot. does not matter which.
boot using temproot.
sunshine it up.
fastboot oem config fsg-id ""
if you dont run fastboot oem config fsg-id "" afterwards the phone will boot loop.
for those not planning on using sunshine and just want root there are alternative methods in post #2 of the temproot thread for avoiding the boot loop without needing to be near a computer.

Oh My Lord. @jcase and @autoprime do it again! Even though mine is unlocked my replacement 32gb isnt and this may make me buy a new screen for it to use! Looks like i know what im doing on my day off tomorrow. Transplanting this screen back onto its orginal donor and unlocking that sucker

Thanks. If I remember correctly, Sunshine reboots the phone automatically after doing its thing. Will holding down volume down to boot directly into bootloader after Sunshine completes interfere with Sunshine in any way? Because that's what I would need to do in order to issue that fastboot command without going into a bootloop. Or should I just tell people to go into bootloop, force power down, get into bootloader and issue the uninstall command?

no, pressing volume down or vol dwn + pwr should not interfere with sunshine.
whichever method people find easier.. i'd assume not everyone will be able to catch it on the initial reboot after sunshine completes.
i'd just avoid pressing buttons while sunshine is still running.. but once the screen shuts off have at it.
also, not sure how it is with the turbo but on my g4 play i do not have to force a 'power down' while phone is in bootloop. i just wait for bootloop cycle to turn screen off and then quickly press the button combo to go into fastboot (volume down + power for g4 play).

Great was to slow and now I have a bootloop. Restarted to fastboot but ADB can not find the device. Can anybody help me with the next steps. Bootloader is unlocked so all that is left now is getting the device to boot.
Figured it out myself!
Once you have a bootloop restart into fastboot and open up the the fastboot folder in "auto-initroot_xt1254_quark_vzw_mcg24.251-5-5".
Then open up a command promp and issue the => fastboot.exe oem config fsg-id "" command. That's all!

As for the code not working after a failure, I don't think you'll need another code if yours fails, but that would be a better question for Sunshine customer support if you want to be sure before trying it.

You mean update the link? The provided link is the most recent version of TWRP for our device (except for the one I made myself using only open source and was told not to give to anyone, but that's a story that doesn't need to be opened up again).
Well, technically that's not true. If you want the true latest official version from TWRP's website, here it is: https://dl.twrp.me/quark/twrp-3.1.1-0-quark.img.html
However, that version does not have all the improvements and special features that BHB implemented. For the purposes of unlocking your bootloader and basic flashing/backups, either version will work just fine.

What @TheSt33v said.
This link is to the most recent TWRP with @bhb27 mods for our Quark phones. @bhb27 is our official TWRP maintainer. He's why our TWRP has official status. But he also builds personalized versions which include some features/mods for our phones that other TWRP versions do not have, mods specifically for our Quarks. His modded versions are always better than the versions on the TWRP website (which again are only there due to his efforts).
On that page below you want the modded TWRP with the most recent date -- will always be the one listed at the bottom.

[INTERNATIONAL]Unlock Your Bootloader!

This process has been done with the HTC International version available in Australia.
Im sure everyone would appreciate follow up from others to confirm which versions of the phone this process works with.
The process below assumes a small amount of familiarity with HTC unlock process AND WILL WIPE THE DATA FROM YOUR PHONE!
The process is basically the same as ever with a few variations
Install adb
Go to http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and sign up, click unlock bootloader
In the device selection drop-down select "any other supported device"
Boot into "Download Mode" - Which is the equivalent of fastboot. (shutdown your phone, hold power+volume down until you boot into this mode). This is the mode with the black background and red text
Connect phone to PC, and issue "fastboot oem get_identifier_token"
Copy the code into the returned by adb into space on HTCs website
Get the email, download the attachment and issue "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
I'll wait for a S-OFF method
You won't need htcdev, your phone won't be registered over there.
Always good to know we can root the new flagship

By being patient... the device is not even available in most regions yet, give developers a little time would you.
For Verizon test M9's, can't even pull identifier token. Fastboot command yields "FAILED (remote: unknown command)," which is interesting because I used fastboot to successfully flash TWRP then root.

Or you can give the Phone to a shop / repair centre to s-off it
In Germany you can do it at:
http://www.gsm-europe.de/epages/635...3/Products/htc_soff/SubProducts/htc_soff-0001
Its a shop in Berlin they do s-off and supercid
And they can do it on the Onde M9
Only bad thing they cant Unlock bootloader it without HTC Dev.
So You get your phone back with S-Off and with Super Cid but Boodloader is Locked and you must Unlock it via HTC dev
because for Unlock via Fastboot you need root on Android 5
I remember when I first unlocked the bootloader on the M7, I lost a couple stock apps. If anyone's tried the official HTC-DEV unlock method yet, are all apps intact?

BootLoader Unlock (both ZE551ML and ZE550ML)

Congrats to all ( both ZE551ML and ZE550ML users), bootloader has been unlocked without connecting to ASUS servers.
2.19.40.20 is also unlockable
New update 2.19.40.20 can be unlocked as well and Asus did not patch the hole. Thanks to @oxydius7 for confirming this here
Bootloader of both ZE550ML and ZE550ML can be unlock if rom is on 2.19.40 or 2.19.40.20
Lets discuss, problems and unlocking related experience here.
How to unlock bootloader:
1. Update to 2.19.40.18 or 2.19.40.20
2. root it
3. make sure adb is insatlled and working
4. enter the following commands in cmd
adb shell (press enter)
su (press enter)
getprop ro.isn > /factory/asuskey ( press enter)
reboot bootloader ( press enter )
Phone will restart in bootloader and after updating itself phone will restart again and ASUS splash screen will be white ( locked bootloader has black screen, you will see difference by yourself)
5. download black splash screen for 551 from here
https://mega.co.nz/#!IlMGiZ7I!kepXRFda7cgNPWHQovkCZaMaD2zVF4UufAJT6YEDU3k
or for 550 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3376376&d=1435127302
6. navigate to adb folder open cmd and type the following commands
adb reboot bootloader (press enter)
fastboot devices (press enter)
see if device is listed, write following
fastboot flash splashscreen splashscreen.img (press enter)
restart your phone and now black splash screen is back. Congrats your bootloader is now unlocked.
If you follow my steps there would not be any data loss from internal memory and sd card, but i will advice to take a backup in case if you are out of luck

[Q] How to Root?

Hi guys,
Anyone know a way to make root in Moto X Play it work?
Or can you use the method of CF-Root Moto X (2014)?
I did unlock the bootloader through the website of Motorola. It worked.
Tks.
(Sorry for my bad english)
Obs. ROOT process in post # 14
No TWRP/Root available as of yet. Give it some time, I guarantee you that XDA will basically be the first place it's posted when it happens. Keep in mind that the phone is just starting to roll out, but not in the US so it might take a while longer for somebody to get on it.

Curious how developers figure out how to root. Is there something that's needed (besides having the phone, obviously), do we need kernel images from Motorola?

I don't have the device, so I won't be making a recovery for it, but it's not a particularly difficult process to make one. It took me around an hour to port TWRP to the 2015 Moto G, and it should be similar for this device. You can use a prebuilt kernel if sources are not available, but I think the 2015 Moto G kernel will actually work on this device. Moto will be releasing the proper kernel sources for this device soon anyway.
You just need to create a device tree and compile a recovery (such as TWRP). The recovery device tree doesn't need to be very thorough (the way ROM device trees are). It just needs to specify information about partition names and locations and kernel boot parameters etc. It should be a trivial modification to make my 2015 Moto G TWRP device tree work on this device.
Once you have a working recovery, just flash SuperSU with it and you'll be rooted.

A quick glance through the other Moto forums here on XDA would give us a good clue. I'm too tired to check at the moment, but if nobody else does by the time I wake up, I'll check then.
Good News! My Moto x play is rooted with the Moto G 2015 method.
Below process we did and it worked:
1- Through the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/orig-development/twrp-twrp-moto-g-2015-t3170537
I downloaded "TWRP-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img"
2 UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip downloaded at: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
[Copy to your internal SDcard]
3 Place your Moto-x in fastboot mode [Power + Vol. down]
3- install TWRP-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img with the command: fastboot boot TWRP-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img
[Installation is temporary, I tried to permanently install but did not work].
4. The recovery will open automatically, browse to the location where you saved the SuperSU and flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
5. Restart.
I did this procedure and managed to get root, I'm not responsible for any damage caused to your phone.
Did you have to unlock bootloader before installing it? On my phone, I have an unlocked bootloader and it did work but perhaps people would be interested in trying it with a locked bootloader (less risk of voiding the warranty).

If someone is on a locked bootloader and want to test, we can see if it works. But I believe that is not possible.
I'll gladly test it with a locked bootloader when I get home in a few hours, if it hasn't already been tested by then.
Just tried it with locked bootloader, no joy. Device downloads the boot.IMG but errors booting it and just stays in bootloader mode. Guessing needs the bootloader unlocking first.

Good to know. Thanks @CharlesW123 for checking!
Anybody know if we are able to flash a logo to replace the unlocked bootloader warning on the X Play yet?

Yep the method shown here does work on the Moto X Play, you will get back to the normal boot logo.
has anyone tested installing Xposed after rooting yet? I'm assuming the same procedure should work (fastboot boot recovery.img > flash xposed.zip)?

The Xposed is a .zip file, you need to install the TWRP via flash.
But still I am not the courage to try. I have no backup ROM error.

OEM Unlock?

Hi all,
I don't have this phone yet, but was wondering if the bootloader can be unlocked. If it can then it will be possible to root.
Here is a simple guide, if there is anyone here that would like to try. No software required.
http://techbeasts.com/how-to-enable-oem-unlock-on-android-nougat/
If OEM Unlock shows up in the developers options menu.. good news!! If OEM Unlock doesn't show up, then there is no way to unlock the bootloader.
Please let me know if your phone is the Amazon Prime version. The Prime version may be locked down.
Thanks for any replies!
Prime version is indeed locked down. Also, at any point that you change anything on the phone to do anything with the software, Amazon will not provide you updates again.
I was able to unlock developer options in my Amazon version but now what? I'm assuming that the bootloader is now unlocked and theoretically, I should be able to flash a new rom? Problem is, does one exist? Cheers.
Just an FYI that my Prime Version did allow me to activate Developer Options/OEM Unlocking. Next step is trying to find a rom or even flash it to regular factory default. That I have not found yet.
Quick question SDACymru - I'm getting this phone in a few days... how did you perform the OEM unlock in dev options?
The normal way. Just tapping on the option for 5 or 6 times.

Thanks. Is there a reason we shouldn't be able to restore from a backup of a non-ads phone stock image and at least get that running on ad-based versions? From my understanding they are exactly the same hardware-wise, so should be possible...
Being able to expose "Developer option" and access to "OEM unlock" still don't make this is developer-friendly device, but I quite surprised that the Amazon Prime version even show the "OEM unlock" in the "Developer option". Anyway, it is close, if you can also perform the last 2 steps, then this device can be considered as developer-friendly.
The next 2 steps are:
- Reboot into fastboot
- fastboot oem unlock (from adb console)
Some devices with full fastboot implementation can check the device lock state by
- fastboot getvar all
If all these commands work, then the device will have good developer support. In addition, if all these commands work on the Amazon Prime version, then it is a piece of cake to remove the Amazon ads.
did anyone every try any of this? ADB Shell temp root has been achieved on this model, I have the temp root xploit but it's useless unless people know what they are doing with it. You can easily brick your phone. I don't physically have this phone but what I do have is a little knowledge, access to the stock rom and a way to flash it. I also know that the recovery can be swapped with TWRP during that flash process. Hit me up on Telegram: https://t.me/PizzaG
So being that I have actually gained temp root access (all credit to PizzaG, he knows his stuff)
Should I go ahead and give the fastboot steps a go? Would the persdata\nvdata remove the temp root access with a reboot or am I way off course?
Any input appreciated

Just rebooting you will lose temp root access. all you have to do is run the commands again any time you want adb shell temp root.
Please check out my new thread in the idol 5 forum. I have some things and ideas brewing
Magisk working
Thanks to the Mtk Easy Su app I have magisk working without flashing anything. How do ya get to fastboot on this thing? Recovery sucks, factory mode is pointless, so where's the good boot mode 99?

I can't wait to get my hands on the device.
Think you can unlock the bootloader with fastboot/adb (same as with Nexus/Pixel/Oneplus-devices) no?
Hey!
After enabling OEM Unlock in the developer options, the commands to unlock it are:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Hope this helps.
What about relocking?

same commands, just change "unlock" with "lock" ^^.
I like old OnePlus brand/Carl Pei for that, Root Friendly
No Knox, No 169 hours Waiting Period or Forbidden Unloack Bootloader.
It's premature to say whether this will be possible or not, as the Phone(1) was released only 5 days ago.
But knowing Carl, I think that everything will be allowed on this smartphone so that it can be used by many people.
It will be a while before we have a custom recovery and therefore can develop around the Phone(1).
But the kernel is already available for developers which is a good sign.

Does unlocking bootloader wipe my data? If yes, is there a way to circumvent this?

Yes! Unlocking your phone will always wipe your data!
And No! if you want to unlock your phone, there is no way around the data wipe at the moment
Is it able to retain L1 status after unlock?
After unlocking (without root, unmodified partitions):
I still have L1 wildvine ("DRM Info").
Safetynet CTS profile match fails.
I'm missing play protect certification.
I can still apply OTAs. (just did 1.1.0 -> 1.1.2)

You need to install Magisk (and also root your device) in order to install Universal safetynet fix module and ofc actually pass safetynet. Worked fine on my device.
I have unlocked many phones but never used this command "fastboot flashing unlock_critical"
Why do we have to use that command aswell?

If you have read my tuto with all the process and explanations , you would have seen this point that concerns your question:
12-Once you’re on the bootloader menu, you’ll now have to switch to using fastboot command to communicate with your device. To unlock the Nothing Phone 1’s bootloader, enter the following command: fastboot flashing unlock
In case you need to flash low-level firmware partitions like the bootloader images, you will have to execute another command afterwards: fastboot flashing unlock_critical
