Hi guys,
I am trying to re-root as Tab needs to go in to be fixed. I copied across my nandroid backup and then tried to restore it but the MD5 checksum failed :-( I had already done a factory reset and format of system and am now stuck at the Samsung Logo. I can't mount the USB storage to copy over a different ROM to get it back up and running again. I have tried to mount USB storage in CWM 4.0.4 and 5.0.2.3 but keep getting "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)".
Is the Tablet bricked? Is there a way out of this?
Help appreciated as am getting worried....
M
I was able to access my SDcard from recovery using Droid Explorer (google it):
1. do not connect Tab to PC
2. start Droid Explorer on PC
3. On your Tab in CWM: mounts and storage > mount system, data, efs (I don't know if all this is necessary, but It's what I did), mount USB storage
4. Connect Tab to PC, hit refresh icon in Droid Explorer
Now you should be able to access SDcard in Droid Explorer. You can only transfer individual files though, so any folder structures must be done manually.
Failing that, if you can get into download mode:
If you can get into download mode (which you should be able to), you can just use Odin to flash a new ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167250
The ASIAN ROM (Sept.) is the most recent (don't worry it defaults to English). Also, this will wipe your SDcard, but will get everything back to working order.
Thanks SO much for getting in touch, much appreciated! Well Droid Explorer is not working......I can connect via Odin though (thank God!). How exactly do I flash a ROM with it mate? Only ever done recoveries before....
Cheers,
M

Watch the first 2-3 mins of this video to see how to operate ODIN. In the video the guy is trying to root his tab, whereas you are trying to go back to stock rom. So the bit where he chooses the pda from his zip file, you just substitute that with the pda and csc from the asian rom file using the link in the post above me.

You need to use a ROM that is specifically flash-able in Odin. Pretty much just follow the directions in the link and you should be good to go.
After that, you'll need to re-install CWM, but once you're done that, you can flash whatever ROM you want just like you're used to.

dpakrr, you are a LEGEND! I was able to get back to stock thanks to you after I thought I was screwed! I had to send the Tab back today for repair to Samsung as it is not being recognised at all by any PC I hook it up too. Not being recognised by Kies either.....you think it's a hardware fault?? I have tried three different PC's with three different OS's on them!
I flashed the stock ROM using Odin back onto it before sending it, will they be able to tell it was rooted? I noticed a flash counter on the Odin screen so wonder will that now be + 1?? I checked and Clockworkmod Recovery was gone, all that was there was the stock recovery.....
Cheers,
M

your welcome mate. im going to limerick for 3.5 months this friday and i love guinness beer so consider that a thank you to the irish lol.
hm well if you have followed the basic guidelines like turning usb debugging off, installing kies and reinstalling samsung mobile drivers and the samsung customer service has no idea whats going on then there is definitely something wrong. so yes could be a hardware fault but just seems strange.
nah the stock rom is not rooted and as you said recovery is back to stock as well, thats all the samsung guys should be worried about. dont think they'll care too much about odin flash counter etc. they will just have a look at the os on your tab and its now stock, so should be fine.

Phew Thanks for all the help man, so many good people here on XDA! I was just thinking that the machine sees the Tab when in ODIN mode but why not in Windows mode? What is the difference? Are low low level hardware drivers used for ODIN that Windows does not have access too?
By the way have a GREAT time in Limerick, it's a cool town and you will not find nicer people!
All the best,

yes that is it mate. thats what i think it is, odin's got low level drivers which the OS doesnt. thats why I thought the samsung mobile drivers might help the OS identify the tab as well but that didnt work for u either did it. so the tab is probably faulty.
cheers mate, yeh look forward to having a great time in limerick

And a fault like that, is it easily fixable or would I need a new unit? If I get a repair I don't want issues with it again a few months down the line!!

I'm not sure what causes it. Could be an internal rom missing a flashed image. You were just really unlucky . This is very rare so I wouldn't worry too much

Phew, that good to know
Edit: Latest from the repair shop here in Dublin is that they could not fix it and it's been sent to Samsung! I had a feeling this would happen.....now have to wait at least another week :-(
Alright, so...I flashed PSX 8.5 on my Nexus 4 and the radio doesn't work. Baseband version says unknown. Should be easy to fix, right?
Nope. My USB doesn't work for data. I've plugged in my phone to many computers, and they all say Port Reset Failed. Now I'm stuck with no signal (so I can't use WiFi to put stuff on the phone) and no USB connectivity. Basically, I think I'm S.O.L.
Any ideas?

What was the ROM and radio prior to you flashed the PSX 8.5? Can you connect to the Internet through your data plan? If yes, then download a flashable zip file for the radio 0.84 and then flash it in recovery. For a flashable zip radio, search for it.

Previous ROM was Cataclysm 4.4. I cannot connect to anything, except for I'm now seeing that Bluetooth may work. If it does, I can just transfer the old ROM back to the phone and flash that way. Hoping this works.
Bluetooth will pair with another phone and Windows 8, but not connect.

I thought ADB doesn't work if the device is not recognized by the computer. Am I wrong?
Anyone else have an idea?
It might be related to SELinux. This most likely won't work, but assuming you have root and terminal, you could try switching selinux to permissive (# /system/bin/setenforce 0). Or if somehow you have selinux in settings-about phone (CM...), tap that a few times to switch the mode. Most likely won't work though.
Other than that, take the phone apart and fix your usb port, or exercise your warranty (since we're dealing with a usb issue..).
This is why you make backups or otherwise have an emergency plan. Especially so since you don't have a functional usb port.
Reboot into recovery and use adb to push the radio or a complete ROM to your phone.

How to tell if my i9505 is "International"?
As per instruction, "INTL I9505 DEVICES SHOULD USE A CUSTOM GE KERNEL TO PREVENT RANDOM REBOOTS".
How do I tell if my i9505 is an international device?
Also, what is the danger of flashing a different kernel?
Thanks,

Hi,
I have an S4 i9505 running this rom, and the Ktoosez #1 Kernel. I am interesting in flashing the alucard kernel and have downloaded the GE verison. I am just wondering if I need to run any scripts or clear any settings before I flash the alucard kernel? Or does this get done automatically when I flash? Sorry if this is a repeated question, I have done a search.
Questions
Hello everyone !
I just bought a i9505 and i have some questions about this rom !
First of all, is this rom for i9505 ?
Is every functionnality are working ? (4G and stuff)
Samedi can five me a feedback of this rom ?
Thank you for everyone answers !
question, will this work on S4 GT-I9505? sorry for being a newbie, i don't know the difference of a google play edition of i9505.
Samsung S4 "Unknown device"
Hi, out of the blue my s4 is not recognized by any computer I have, I've tried 3 different computers and the message is always the same "problem installing the driver" or "the device cannot install because the hardware malfunctioned" . I've tried in w7 and xp. Same computers in which the phone used to work perfectly, and I didn't make any changes.
I think I have tried everything now, I've reinstalled the drivers, kies, several times too but nothing. I also tried to reinstall the ROM with all the wipes, and still nothing. Of course I tried debbuging mode and without it as well. It must be a phone issue, because it doesn't work in any computer, but I don't now what it can be. I don't now what else to do.
Right now I'm running the last Danvdh 4.4 Google Edition with ktoonsed kernel, I also tried Googy, and it runs smooth as always.

Verify in settings about phone, normally none international devices specify another model number , like Canadian it says i337m or JFLTECAN. Or you can check back your battery and there is specified the model.
Install a new kernel don't have any problem, just verify the next things:
1. Kernel is compatible with your model: a lot of kernels are compatible with all i9505 models in AOSP and GoogleEdition kernel versions.
2. The kernel Zip is downloaded correctly: open the zip in any file explorer (windows or Android), if don't open is corrupt and you have yo download again. Another secure check is MD5, almost all developers give a MD5 checksum to verify the files, try to calculate your time download MD5 and compare it.
3. The kernel has to be compatible with ROM installed: there are kernels for Touch wiz, AOSP and Google editions, select the correct one. Caution with AOSP, not all AOSP-based ROMS are compatible with this kernels because has a lot of modifications, verify first in kernel forum (not in ROM forum) if is compatible.
I hope this could help you.

Don't worry, just flash the new kernel. You can clean dalvik and cache , but is not necessary.

Google Edition is just a variant of i9505, like at&t or T-Mobile, but with the difference is a clean android ROM without touch wiz and all Samsung blootware, updated by google.

Just a few questions, did you try with another cable? Sometimes USB cable have problems. Did you try uninstalling all Samsung devices and connect in PC ? Using different USB ports in PC? Did you try in Linux? Did you try connecting with other ROM like CM or Touchwiz?

Hi, I did try several cables, even different computers, nothing works. I have tried another S4 (with stock ROM) and a S3 (Alliance ROM), when I connect them to a computer in which there are no drivers installed (right after installing windows in it), the computer says SAMSUNG_DEVICE, but when I connect mine the computer says UNKNOWN_DEVICE. In computers with the drivers installed, the other two work just fine, but mine is still UKNOWN_DEVICE, or cannot complete the install due to a hardware malfunction. I tried WXP and W7. I don't have access to Linux.
At the moment I have only tried the Danvdh ROM, I've done a clean install twice already not solving the problem. I haven't tried yet another ROM because I like this one and I was hoping anyone to know what is happening. Next step is trying another ROM, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
Thanks for the response.

Device detection could depend of device sign, maybe is something with device or is a configuration in ROM or Kernel. Do you have last boot loader?

Odin I believe only works with Samsung stock ROM, you could try that just to be sure is not device problem. Check if your build.prop file in system is correct, verify it with an original build.prop (search in Google)

OK, just to rewind
Cable problem ? Not, because it works with other phones.
PC problem ? Not, because it works with other phones and drivers are OK.
ROM problem ? Not, because other ROM doesn't work too.
Phone problem ? You don't think so, because it charge. But if I remember, charge USB needs only 2 pins and not the 4 one, PC communication needs the 4 pins. Try with a OTG Cable to connect a USB storage to your phone and if it's detected then I have no more ideas but if not then maybe is phone USB problem. (Hardware problem)
USB OTG is an USB cable with female USB - micro USB to connect a USB to you phone, is useful because you can connect a keyboard, mouse, USB storage and other devices. It works with the 4 pins and maybe help to detect where is the problem.

Hi at all I represent my problem with news:
If I skip manually tracks volume remain equal for all tracks, but if I don't touch the phone and tracks changes automatically at the end of one, the next track has an upper volume. To normalize the volume of this track I have to change track to another and then return to this one...
I've tried also to change from MUSICFX to DSP manager but nothing change.
I puntualize that only volume changes, not EQ presets not applied or other.... only volume locks on upper db..

Can ROM somehow cause problems with USB recognising of my SGS4 I9505 ?
Charging is fine, but can't be recognized by PC.
Shall i try this damaged SGS4 with other ROMs flashing with custom recovery and SD card, or it can only be hardware problem, so no need to try other ROMS ?
My question is simple and i need simple answer (like yes or no). I won't explain how many threads i've checked- simply i'll tell what i've tried.
1. Dozens of cables
2. Few different laptops with different OS
3. A lot USB ports
4. Cleaning phone USB port
5. Replacing with another 2 USB boards from other SGS4
6. Hard phone cache and factory reset
7. Delete all drivers, reinstall em, also KIES, Error code i receive in device manager is 43. Tried to force Samsung drivers for this device, it accept them, but gives error code 10 - device can not start.
Phone can't be recognized in all modes. Last time it was connecting properly was when i flashed last ROM with Odin. It is STOCK rom. - I9505XXUHOB7_I9505YBTHOB7_DBT-Stock ROM Galaxy s4 and it has received several updates OTA from Samsung.
I have 2 more SGS4 which connects and works fine with all cables. They have never been flashed or rooted.

PLS ! Read 1st post !
Just need to know has ROM anything to do with USB connectivity?
So should i bang my head and search for flashing without custom recovery, root and USB connectivity !? Is there any chances to flash that way another rom, an will it fix usb connectivity ?
If ROM has NOTHING to do with usb connectivity- then i'll just leave it that way! It is simple ! But no simple answer yet

Download mode is separated from the rom. So no, the rom has nothing to do with usb connectivity while in download mode. Another rom will not fix your problems.
