Hi guys
I’m new here and I need your help.
I have Samsung S4 International bought on amazon in US, no simlock.
I use this phone in Ireland in Europe.
Everything was ok until a few months ago when I lost 3g connection. Science then my phone is working in 2g only mode (gprs/edge speed)
Phone was running on stock rom android 4.4.2, I thought it is a software issue so I rooted phone and installed CyanogenMod. Unfortunately it did not help
Phone still synchronise with 2g network instead of 3g even in capital city next to BTS.
I was wondering is 3g module broken and what could be a reason of that? Do you have any idea how could I fix it, what would be a cost of doing it and is it even worth it.
Except that, phone is working ok. GPS with finding a fix is a little bit slow but this is not a big issue.
Thanks in advance
FMX
Current details about phone:
GT-I9505
4.4.2
Kernel 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g2ab6e0f
Baseband I9505xxugnh8
Build cm_jfltexx-userdebug 4.4.2 kot49h
did you try any other sim cards?

Hello
I've been using Quarx's CM10 for the last 3 months, and up until a month ago it was working fine. Then suddenly, after putting it on flight mode for a trip, my 3g has stopped working reliably. It hasn't completely stopped working. Sometimes it works for a bit but will then just completely drop out again. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the RIL bug but I don't seem to be getting any reboots so I don't think its this, and GPRS (voice calling, text messages) all works fine. WiFi also works perfectly.
I have recently moved to WIUI GB as I thought maybe there was something up with Jelly Bean. Anyway, exactly the same issue is presenting on this rom as well.
I'm on Vodafone Australia, using the Telstra Baseband (EPU93_U_00.0.00) from the baseband switcher.
Android Version: 2.3.7
Kernel version: [email protected] #1
Build: MIUI-3.1.27
Bootloader 7
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
So I've checked a few things. It's not the SIM card as I had it swapped by my service provider and the same problem persists.
Also, I put my sisters Optus sim in and it seemed to work no problems. Just an odd thing I picked up, but when my SIM is in the phone the Data symbol is always on "H", whereas hers showed "3G" unless data was actually being used and then it showed the "H".
Anyone got any ideas??
I've got some problems with mobile data on my Note 4. I've bought unbranded phone in shop unrelated to any mobile provider. It's Snapdragon version (N910F).
I've got prepaid service, without LTE available (if that's important). The problem is that every now and then mobile data simply stops. There is still H or H+ sign in notification bar, and upload arrow blinks. but when i try to open web page or send message through viber, wattsup it acts like there is no network. Then i have to wait for about 30 seconds or manually turn mobile data off and then on again for internet to start working again.
I've tried changing APN settings, changing network type, but the problem is still there.
I've read some similar issues with Note 3 and SGS5 users, and some problems with modem versions, but i couldn't find anything from note 4 users
And this problem is very frustrating on phone like Note 4
Is there anything else i could try?
Mate i have exact same problem
I don't know if this is relevant, if your apn settings has a proxy and port values, try to delete it and let the proxy and port be blank. I had issues previously with data getting stuck while using proxy setting.
Sent from my SM-N910C using Tapatalk
I also loose data signal and on calls people cant hear me properly.. doesny always happen. Ill try thanks
Also experiencing this with Tmobile UK.
Also have this exact same problem with the unbranded SM-N910H, H+ but no internet all of a sudden. I also sometimes lose the whole signal (Emergency Calls Only) so I have to reboot or turn airplane mode off and on to get it working again. I asked some people and they told me it's a coverage problem with the network provider. IDK if it's true.
No ahmadmob its the phone although i have n910u i have exact same problems as u!! I thinks its modem hopefully gets solved soon im in Australia using prepaid only 3g/h+

Glad it's not a carrier specific issue.
Guess I'll wait for an official fix or for other radios to become available.
I rang samsung australia few weeks ago and they had no idea than again when do they ever!? Lol so looks like we will have to wait buddy
Some common suggestions:
1- Swap the SIM card into another phone to see if the problem persists?
2- If the problem is due to Note 4, you may need to update your firmware/baseband to the latest one (if one is available, or you have to wait until Samsung release it), or try another firmware (from another model) or custom ROM.
Tried already mate sims fine updated reflashed stock rom and still same problem.. hopedully update comes soon
I just tried sim card from another carrier, and for now, everything looks fine.
I'll go ask for a new sim from my carrier, or switch my number to another one.
Sorry for digging, didn't want to make a new topic.
I'm here with the same problem. Did any of you find solution for it (other than switching to different carrier). I'm on Play in Poland and i find mobile data problematic mostly in roaming (free roaming with every carrier in Poland). For example on t-mobile or plus i find my up arrow constatnly blinking and H switching to H+ and again. Problem is even worse with 2 or less signal bars. I'm thinking of changing sim cars to new one, but on my note 2 everything works perfectly fine.
I thought I noticed a slight improvement after the final KitKat update, may have been a placebo effect though.
In general it's still bad, much worse than my HTC M7, same network, same location etc. It seems to be particularly bad when travelling at speed e.g. on the train I get full bars but only 1 arrow flickering.
Upgraded to Lollipop a couple of days ago and finally rooted, doubt this will make a difference but will be able to report during my commute tomorrow.
In summary: The HSDPA modem on my phone is rubbish.
P.S. Previous phones I've owned came with options for different modems, I'd often flash these to improve performance, where are they for the Note 4?
I think they're not available yet, at least on lollipop...
Mine is completely fixed after a few updates i get 4g+ here excellent reception

Could tell more how did you fix your problem?
All fixed!
I can confirm that after the lollipop 5.0.1 update on my SM-N910H all my mobile data problems/mobile network drop outs are solved!. 3 days without any problems now.
Edit: maybe it had something to do with Radio and it got fixed after it got updated along with the lollipop update package?
Guys, here in my country Bulgaria, many of us owners of SGN4 have the same issue and wilth Lollipop also. I have noticed that with KitKat the problem was more frequent than Lollipop but it is still there. We have tried Polish Lollipop and now the official Bulgarian Lollipop but the problem still exists. I hope somebody will tell me which ROM you have installed (oficial) so I could share it with my fellow citizens. Thank!
Hi
For a very long time I've been having signal problems, it just suddenly stops working and I have to reboot to get any signal back (airplane mode on and off doesnt work).
Its a GT-I9505
4.4.2
Goldeneye Rom
Greetings
which network? might be a local network issue?
I'm with 3, and although officially their website says that there's no planned maintenance in the area, i quite often drop signal when I'm at work recently, even though it's worked fine until now. I think a lot of people on various networks get the occasional network issue though. I think companies are constantly "upgrading" things, leading to network outages. I don't know why they don't just leave things alone. I used to have perfect signal on t-mobile when it was 3g, but as soon as they changed to ee and started to move to 4g, I got no signal, ever....that's why i switched to 3 in the first place, but now that they're "upgrading", same stuff again!
Its not the provider, know a lot of people on the same company and only me and my brother (same phone same firmware) are having this problems.
I read it coul be the 4.4.2 firmware, but dont know if only updating would fix it.
I had this problem on an earlier version of a cyanogenmod nightly. Most likely is your custom rom causing it. You said it yourself. Both you and your brother, same rom, same phone. Try a different rom or different version of the same rom.
G'Day All
Am living in Australia and I have a G900P which works but is not overly happy.
The gps is beyond useless and it generally runs rather slow.
Has been suggested that I root the thing and put different firmware on.
I used to use cyanogenmod on the s3.
Is this still a good rooting or what do people recommend?
Am I better off trying just a stock firmware?
I'm not crash hot at this thing so the simpler the better.
Cheers

Hi,
Just wondering why are you using Sprint/USA version of s5 in Australia instead of SM-G900I version. As far as I know SM-G900P version works outside USA but might cause some issues with 4G/LTE or mobile data.
Anyway, if you want to stick to SM-G900P in Australia then:
1. "GPS useless" - why? doesn't work? Slow positioning?
Try updating A-GPS (Assisted GPS) data for accurate and faster positioning:
- install from Google Play the "GPS test" app
- enable "Location" in your phone
- open the app -> open three-point symbol menu in the top right -> AGPS -> Clear and update.
2. Phone "runs rather slow":
Enable Safe mode (Safe mode can help you to track down the causes of problems you may be having with your smartphone - it will temporarily disable all third-party apps which you installed) and see if your phone performs better. If yes, try to find out what app is causing your problem. If not, try fresh install of the latest stock firmware with full wipe before playing with any custom firmware.
Regards

G'Day!!!
I am running a Sprint model because I made a bad ebay purchase and I am hoping to save face and $$$ by getting the bugger to work.
I wasn't aware of the different models at the time of purchase and as I bought it from a person here in Aus I just assumed that it would be ok.
The 4G / mobile data side of the phone is great.. no worries at all.
I have just arrived home from a road trip interstate (1500kms) and had no issues at all with reception and internet.
As for the GPS issues.. I have tried all of your suggestions wit no joy.
The main issue I have is that it can take up to 15 minutes to get a lock.. if at all.. and then the best accuracy I have ever seen is 11M.
I can stick my wifes S5 g900I beside mine out in the open.. clear A-GPS etc on both and hit the go button at the same time and hers will get a lock with 3M accuracy within 15-30 seconds.. and mine will just chug away beside hers for minutes on end.
In regards to the slow issues.. I have had a quick play with safe mode and there is noticeable difference so I will get out the knife and chop out some of the apps.
I would like to try a full wipe and latest stock firmware but honestly don't know which one to install.. XAS, BST, XAR, SPR (CDMA), or VMU
Any help on that selection would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
After reading this:
https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...00p-galaxy-s5-lte-a-samsung-pacific/australia
I am positively surprised that you are not having any issues with LTE/4G.
Concerning latest stock firmware it is quite tricky thing - should be compatible with the phone model and also work on your Australian carrier.
Could you tell me two things:
1. What firmware do you have currently installed (PDA/Baseband/CSC)?
2. What is your carrier in Australia?

The carrier I am using is Aldi (which uses the Telstra 4G network)
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...xy-s5-lte-a-samsung-pacific/telstra-australia
Apparently I am only working 4 out of the 7 bands.. but honestly I have no problems with the data or phone connections.
Firmware:
Baseband: G900PVPU3BOG1
AP: G900PVPU1BOA6
CP: G900PVPU3BOG1
CSC: G900PSPT1BOA6

So my concerns were correct - you are not getting LTE as Telstra LTE bands are not supported by the phone. So I assume HSPA+ works for you.
Regarding your firmware it is strange a little: you have android 5.0 installed but seems your baseband comes from a little bit newer release of the android 5.0 firmware - official stock G900PVPU1BOA6 (PDA) firmware should contain G900PVPU1BOA6 baseband/modem. It looks like somebody flashed newer modem after flashing firmware - is your flash counter/KNOX triggered already?
Anyway if you want to try fresh installation of the stock firmware try latest available one from sammobile.com compatible with your phone. To be honest I have no experience with this phone (my is SM-G900F) and even less with using it in Australia so do it at your own risk

Oh well.
I might just leave the firmware as is.
I'll just play around with removing apps
The flash counter/KNOX is still showing 0x0.
Any clues as to the GPS issues?? Or could it all be related??
Thanks so much for your help so far.

Found this on another forum: https://androidforums.com/threads/gps-fix-s5-dummies-guide.907733/
Try and play a little with your gps. Hopefully your issue is not hardware related and can be solved.
Edit: Also, (I am not pressing you) for some users upgrading firmware helped with gps issues - so it is up to you.

Many40.. I thank you very much for all your assistance so far.. very much appreciated.
I have tried that GPS Fix link you gave me and there is no change.
I think I'll just persevere with what I have and look at an upgrade the phone.

Hi!
My device is Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9007 (Australia version OPS) and I've recently flashed 'new' firmware from sammobile.com to update my modem, bootloader etc. Everything went fine but problem with 3G/H/H+ occured. From some threads here and some from reddit I concluded that this phenomenon with switching between those three is called Fast Dormancy and that isn't bad thing and it should work great. BUT. I doesn't work at all. While switching between 3G and H+ there is no mobile data transfer which is so annoying. On H+ it works great, but when switched to 3G it doesn't. I live in Poland not Australia so I have diffrent bands for 3g etc but on old modem everything was ok, Fast dormancy didn't occured. So I restored old modem and restore old ROM which is MagmaNX but this problem still occured! Even on old modem. So I've done some research again I tried to disable Fast Dormancy with root, I've tried to disable it through service codes 9900 9090 4636 301279. Nothing helped. Best thing is that on LTE it works great, but with LTE on I can see my battery crying.
So I'm asking you, dear Users of xda Developers ( because you can do miracles ) IS there any posibility to get it back going ?
PS. I know its strange that I have model N9007 rather than N9005 but it happend and I couldn't do anything about it (I've got tricked on ebay, sadly)
Here are few screenshots about my phone. If you want some more info just let me know. @bump
I have found a soulution.
