G900P rooting - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

G'Day All
Am living in Australia and I have a G900P which works but is not overly happy.
The gps is beyond useless and it generally runs rather slow.
Has been suggested that I root the thing and put different firmware on.
I used to use cyanogenmod on the s3.
Is this still a good rooting or what do people recommend?
Am I better off trying just a stock firmware?
I'm not crash hot at this thing so the simpler the better.
Cheers
Nich

Hi,
Just wondering why are you using Sprint/USA version of s5 in Australia instead of SM-G900I version. As far as I know SM-G900P version works outside USA but might cause some issues with 4G/LTE or mobile data.
Anyway, if you want to stick to SM-G900P in Australia then:
1. "GPS useless" - why? doesn't work? Slow positioning?
Try updating A-GPS (Assisted GPS) data for accurate and faster positioning:
- install from Google Play the "GPS test" app
- enable "Location" in your phone
- open the app -> open three-point symbol menu in the top right -> AGPS -> Clear and update.
2. Phone "runs rather slow":
Enable Safe mode (Safe mode can help you to track down the causes of problems you may be having with your smartphone - it will temporarily disable all third-party apps which you installed) and see if your phone performs better. If yes, try to find out what app is causing your problem. If not, try fresh install of the latest stock firmware with full wipe before playing with any custom firmware.
Regards

G'Day!!!
I am running a Sprint model because I made a bad ebay purchase and I am hoping to save face and $$$ by getting the bugger to work.
I wasn't aware of the different models at the time of purchase and as I bought it from a person here in Aus I just assumed that it would be ok.
The 4G / mobile data side of the phone is great.. no worries at all.
I have just arrived home from a road trip interstate (1500kms) and had no issues at all with reception and internet.
As for the GPS issues.. I have tried all of your suggestions wit no joy.
The main issue I have is that it can take up to 15 minutes to get a lock.. if at all.. and then the best accuracy I have ever seen is 11M.
I can stick my wifes S5 g900I beside mine out in the open.. clear A-GPS etc on both and hit the go button at the same time and hers will get a lock with 3M accuracy within 15-30 seconds.. and mine will just chug away beside hers for minutes on end.
In regards to the slow issues.. I have had a quick play with safe mode and there is noticeable difference so I will get out the knife and chop out some of the apps.
I would like to try a full wipe and latest stock firmware but honestly don't know which one to install.. XAS, BST, XAR, SPR (CDMA), or VMU
Any help on that selection would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
After reading this:
https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...00p-galaxy-s5-lte-a-samsung-pacific/australia
I am positively surprised that you are not having any issues with LTE/4G.
Concerning latest stock firmware it is quite tricky thing - should be compatible with the phone model and also work on your Australian carrier.
Could you tell me two things:
1. What firmware do you have currently installed (PDA/Baseband/CSC)?
2. What is your carrier in Australia?

The carrier I am using is Aldi (which uses the Telstra 4G network)
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...xy-s5-lte-a-samsung-pacific/telstra-australia
Apparently I am only working 4 out of the 7 bands.. but honestly I have no problems with the data or phone connections.
Firmware:
Baseband: G900PVPU3BOG1
AP: G900PVPU1BOA6
CP: G900PVPU3BOG1
CSC: G900PSPT1BOA6

So my concerns were correct - you are not getting LTE as Telstra LTE bands are not supported by the phone. So I assume HSPA+ works for you.
Regarding your firmware it is strange a little: you have android 5.0 installed but seems your baseband comes from a little bit newer release of the android 5.0 firmware - official stock G900PVPU1BOA6 (PDA) firmware should contain G900PVPU1BOA6 baseband/modem. It looks like somebody flashed newer modem after flashing firmware - is your flash counter/KNOX triggered already?
Anyway if you want to try fresh installation of the stock firmware try latest available one from sammobile.com compatible with your phone. To be honest I have no experience with this phone (my is SM-G900F) and even less with using it in Australia so do it at your own risk

Oh well.
I might just leave the firmware as is.
I'll just play around with removing apps
The flash counter/KNOX is still showing 0x0.
Any clues as to the GPS issues?? Or could it all be related??
Thanks so much for your help so far.

Found this on another forum: https://androidforums.com/threads/gps-fix-s5-dummies-guide.907733/
Try and play a little with your gps. Hopefully your issue is not hardware related and can be solved.
Edit: Also, (I am not pressing you) for some users upgrading firmware helped with gps issues - so it is up to you.

Many40.. I thank you very much for all your assistance so far.. very much appreciated.
I have tried that GPS Fix link you gave me and there is no change.
I think I'll just persevere with what I have and look at an upgrade the phone.

So? Vodafone sit on new ROMs like there's no tomorrow...
Vodafones reply at the moment was
Hi NDJ,
Just to clarify, I've not confirmed we're aware of a problem- I just said we'll take a look at it.
Using 3G doesn't actually make much of a difference at all to battery life compared to using 2G, so I'd always recommend against switching down anyway as you miss out on performance. There's a thread explaining it here.
As soon as we have any more information, we'll let you know
We have proved that 2g uses less battery they have remove a stock android function that is on all android devices
Interesting thread. I had a similar issue on my SGS a while ago when I flashed JS3 PDA with the JP7 (Vodafone) CSC and the JP5 (Vodafone) modem. I lost the 'GSM only' option and thought at that stage that it was a JS3 thing. It turned out that the JS3_JP7_JP5 combination doesn't play well together and when I switched to the JPY CSC the option was back and everything was fine. Try flashing the JPY CSC and see if you get the option back. IIRC, I packaged up JS3 with JPY CSC and JP5 modem and flashed the entire package to get it back, I never tried flashing just the JPY CSC but it may be worth a try! Incidentally, what CSC are they providing with their 2.2.1 ROM?
I don't no i do not its on samsfirmware as a one file firmware Orange users got theres to day and there fine. Most that have the problem are rolling there firmware back via kies why have they used this csc i no they sent jpy back cos they came out with it had massive battery drain. Plus the Vodafone firmware is making the phone hot as well
If it's chewing battery and making the phone hot it deffo sounds like they have the modem working overtime! Well done Vodafone.. top marks for quality control!! Yet another good reason to stick with flashing with Odin as you can have at least some control over what you put on your phone that way!
Personally I'm using the JS7 PDA with JPY CSC and JS1 modem and my phone is running beautifully and giving the best battery life I've ever had!

You need to open the tar file from Samfirmware and extract the separate files. Once you have the files you want to mix and match from various versions you tar them back up using the tar command on a linux machine or something like Cygwin on a Windows machine. Ramad put together a good tutorial on how to do this a while ago (sorry, I can't find a link to it right now but you'll find it if you search).
First thing i have done when i see the laggy Vadofone Bootlogo at startup is to get rid off this firmware via odin for good. Now running JS8. Real fast as it should be...

[Q] Samsung Focus - HOW to get a BETTER 3g connection?

Guys,
I have a Samsung Focus for a quite long time. There is an issue that is ANNOYING, that problem that obligate us to restart the phone to reconnect to 3G connection. I had this issue in the past, until the NoDo Update was released!
After NoDo, ISSUE SOLVED! Internet connection outside Wifi perfect, and it managed perfectly. BBBUT
Now mango is launched! WTF! The problem is here again! After mango, the 3G connection is wooooooooorrse! Who else feel the same situation? Anyone that felt, could solve it somehow? It seems that drivers are not updated, I don't know. Please, don't say that it may be my Carrier! IT IS NOT! =)
ps: I have already entered in Diagnosis tool, and did the adjusts you suggested, but nothing changed.
Guys, sharing an article: http://wp7lab.com/news/data-leak-mango/
Yes , unfortunately 3g/3G+ is slow when compared to a decent smartphone, at least in Europe.
I have tested more than 3 WP7 devices, they are slow.
Focus is the slowest in Europe since the it is from US/Canada markets. Flashing an Omnia7 radio helps improving the speed by some 20-30 percents.
The secret lies within the RoM , there are several xml files responsible for data handling. ATT/Rogers CSC files don't configure the device to European protocols.
Theoretically, one could build a Frankenstein ROM from an OMNIA7 device by using the edited csc file and adding Focus drivers to it.
I am working @ this right now...
I'm in the U.S., and I'm having the same issues. Several times a day I web browse and I get the connection error message. Did the original diagnostic settings, as well.
http: //windowsphonehacker .com/articles/how_to_enable_hsupa_on_your_samsung_focus_and_triple_your_upload_speeds-04-19-11
this is pretty useful guys
Thanks for reminding me!!! I forgot to reinstate that mod after updating to Mango. Awesome!!!
My phone is unlocked from Att but I'm in Jamaica. I love this phone but the 3g is giving me hell to selling point where I am considering selling the device. Is there any help out there for this problem?

set it to World (instead of North America)

[Q] Mobile data problem

I've got some problems with mobile data on my Note 4. I've bought unbranded phone in shop unrelated to any mobile provider. It's Snapdragon version (N910F).
I've got prepaid service, without LTE available (if that's important). The problem is that every now and then mobile data simply stops. There is still H or H+ sign in notification bar, and upload arrow blinks. but when i try to open web page or send message through viber, wattsup it acts like there is no network. Then i have to wait for about 30 seconds or manually turn mobile data off and then on again for internet to start working again.
I've tried changing APN settings, changing network type, but the problem is still there.
I've read some similar issues with Note 3 and SGS5 users, and some problems with modem versions, but i couldn't find anything from note 4 users
And this problem is very frustrating on phone like Note 4
Is there anything else i could try?
Mate i have exact same problem
I don't know if this is relevant, if your apn settings has a proxy and port values, try to delete it and let the proxy and port be blank. I had issues previously with data getting stuck while using proxy setting.
Sent from my SM-N910C using Tapatalk
I also loose data signal and on calls people cant hear me properly.. doesny always happen. Ill try thanks
Also experiencing this with Tmobile UK.
Also have this exact same problem with the unbranded SM-N910H, H+ but no internet all of a sudden. I also sometimes lose the whole signal (Emergency Calls Only) so I have to reboot or turn airplane mode off and on to get it working again. I asked some people and they told me it's a coverage problem with the network provider. IDK if it's true.
No ahmadmob its the phone although i have n910u i have exact same problems as u!! I thinks its modem hopefully gets solved soon im in Australia using prepaid only 3g/h+

Glad it's not a carrier specific issue.
Guess I'll wait for an official fix or for other radios to become available.
I rang samsung australia few weeks ago and they had no idea than again when do they ever!? Lol so looks like we will have to wait buddy
Some common suggestions:
1- Swap the SIM card into another phone to see if the problem persists?
2- If the problem is due to Note 4, you may need to update your firmware/baseband to the latest one (if one is available, or you have to wait until Samsung release it), or try another firmware (from another model) or custom ROM.
Tried already mate sims fine updated reflashed stock rom and still same problem.. hopedully update comes soon
I just tried sim card from another carrier, and for now, everything looks fine.
I'll go ask for a new sim from my carrier, or switch my number to another one.
Sorry for digging, didn't want to make a new topic.
I'm here with the same problem. Did any of you find solution for it (other than switching to different carrier). I'm on Play in Poland and i find mobile data problematic mostly in roaming (free roaming with every carrier in Poland). For example on t-mobile or plus i find my up arrow constatnly blinking and H switching to H+ and again. Problem is even worse with 2 or less signal bars. I'm thinking of changing sim cars to new one, but on my note 2 everything works perfectly fine.
I thought I noticed a slight improvement after the final KitKat update, may have been a placebo effect though.
In general it's still bad, much worse than my HTC M7, same network, same location etc. It seems to be particularly bad when travelling at speed e.g. on the train I get full bars but only 1 arrow flickering.
Upgraded to Lollipop a couple of days ago and finally rooted, doubt this will make a difference but will be able to report during my commute tomorrow.
In summary: The HSDPA modem on my phone is rubbish.
P.S. Previous phones I've owned came with options for different modems, I'd often flash these to improve performance, where are they for the Note 4?
I think they're not available yet, at least on lollipop...
Mine is completely fixed after a few updates i get 4g+ here excellent reception

Could tell more how did you fix your problem?
All fixed!
I can confirm that after the lollipop 5.0.1 update on my SM-N910H all my mobile data problems/mobile network drop outs are solved!. 3 days without any problems now.
Edit: maybe it had something to do with Radio and it got fixed after it got updated along with the lollipop update package?
Guys, here in my country Bulgaria, many of us owners of SGN4 have the same issue and wilth Lollipop also. I have noticed that with KitKat the problem was more frequent than Lollipop but it is still there. We have tried Polish Lollipop and now the official Bulgarian Lollipop but the problem still exists. I hope somebody will tell me which ROM you have installed (oficial) so I could share it with my fellow citizens. Thank!

Signal issues with H990DS in Australia? (or in general)

Has anyone else noticed issues with reception with the H990DS specificically in Australia or where ever else? I bought mine from an online site called BecexTech because it was a lot freaking cheaper than JBHIFI but ever since getting it I've noticed varied problems with signal. It seems I get better signal indoors but when ever I'm moving such as driving or in common places I visit I am noticing the signal cuts out a lot or just doesn't connect at all. I never had these issues on my old Note 3. I stream the radio while I'm driving (because it sounds 100x better than FM) but am noticing the signal cuts out at least 10 times a trip. That never happened on my note 3 or only happened once or twice a trip. Has anyone else noticed poorer reception? My guess is either my antennas are bit faulty or its "tuned" for Taiwan or something. (I'm not sure how telco and phones work, I've just heard that some models of phones are made for certain countries.)
Also note the phone was in Chinese (?) when I first got it Check the PIC below
My telco is OPTUS.
Any thoughts.? I don't wanna RMA the phone after only a week and a bit
Oh and I'll also mention Gps accuracy is a lot worse too. Disconnects and in accurate speed and location have been a problem compared to my note 3. I might give the local LG repair centre a call and see what they say.
I purchased the H990ds from a Taiwan reseller. I've had no problems with reception so far (I've had the phone about a month). I'm using my phone on the Optus network.
My phone shows:
Build No: NRD90M
Software Version: V10b-TWN-XX
There is a similar post to yours on Whirlpool, however. I must say that my phone didn't come in Chinese. When I first turned it on it asked me to select a language.

Yeah I'm not sure. The phone came pre setup. But I just changed the language and reset it so I could set it up myself. Could you link me to that thread?
I also have that identical Build No. And SW version
I bought mine locally...yes. reception issues outside of city CBD and its closest surrounding suburbs is absolutely horrible. i barely get 1 bar reception on Telstra!
Yeah it's odd your phone was setup already even from a grey importer, but cell and GPS reception can be changed and tweaked in the system files on the phone.
Your firmware will be setup for tw, if we had root you could change the build.prop system device type and GPS.conf settings to match the Aus firmware and probably get better reception. Checking these files even the Aus version isn't using the exact GPS NTP server so...
Ive had no issues with my jbhifi model so far regarding reception or gps, Optus network.

Is there any app that could just view the build.prop? That way I could compare mine to yours? Even after root comes out how do I even know what to do to fix it? Thanks for the insights.
EDIT: Went and copied build.prop from ES File manager. Here it is: http://pastebin.com/QvTvHBvi Maybe you can see whats different? Because I have no idea what im doing in the build prop, so I dont know what to look for.
I have been using the H99ds and yes, the cell signal is problematic, especially when using in Indonesia. I constantly have to turn on airplane mode then off again to try to get a signal. When signal is good the "arrow icon" would appear but always drop off suddenly. Sometimes I can still access Whatsapp chat without the arrow icons when only the 4G logo is displayed, but I cannot surf. Very frustrating.
Compared to my V10, G4, S7E the cell reception is definitely a notch down. Just got an Windows 10 phone HP Elite x3 and it performed so much better than the V20. A big disappointment.

Thanks, normally you would change the ro.product. sections to match the countries device you are in and update the modem/baseband if possible [check image]. Seems your version numbers are higher/newer than mine. I hhave 10d-DEC update waiting for me to find WiFi to download.
Similar to the GPS.conf file you would change the NTP server to your region plus other settings tweaks.
#NTP server
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
To
NTP_SERVER_AU=oceania.pool.ntp.org
I also want to modify the camera quality and options if possible.
Once we get root we can experiment, also making backups of each file you edit etc in case of bootloops.

Yeah just noticed the TWN in the firmware compared to your AUS. Kinda anoying. There is no official LG downloads or tool to flash stock FW is there? I could maybe change it to the Aus FW if there was.
Well my final question is do you think its worth the hassle or should I just return this phone and buy a legit Australian one from JB. Once a stable root arrives the build prop changes will make it work just as good as the Australian right?

Possibly as good, same hardware. Though If I had to restore the kdz image id use the twn version as I doubt we'll see an Aus image, its almost identical.
very bad signal reception in israel i have the h990 variant, and some people tell me they call me and I never even get their calls

Does your data indicator icon "double arrow" (next to 4G/3G cell signal indicator icon) sometimes disappear or always on?
In Taiwan, Singapore the double arrow indicator sometimes disappear, but in Indonesia it always happen, maybe due to weaker signal? I can use Whatsapp or even play CoC BUT can't surf internet when that happens; have to get the double arrow indicator back by turning on airplane mode and then turn off a few times, very frustrating!

Wow it got released I'm impressed! Hopefully you can flash it, I wouldnt try it till we have root though so you can backup your partition tables in case of flash issues.

I downloaded the Aus f/w but I keep getting an error in LGUP :
I can't find anyone on that thread you sent with this issue so im not sure whats up. Do you possible know the issue? It shows this message when the phone is connected and i first open the program
Also couldn't I modify the build.prop from twrp? Can twrp be installed without breaking the phone?
No idea sorry mate, ive not tried any of this as yet...
You cant edit the build prop because we dont have root yet. We dont have unlocked bootloader so no version of twrp compiled yet.

Well I ended up going through with the Aus F/W but it came out... strange? It now has some Mexican Telco apps and the version does not say anything similar to yours in settings. It also has 2 errors on every reboot. I attached some screenshots. I haven't been able to test signal yet because there is none where i am. I will test that tomorrow.
Yeah that's odd the extra apps, knew it was to good to be true. The base band is correct but I've seen that on other firmware also now, so I think we will all get the same versions eventually. Those errors look to be related to an app not finding the correct version, could be LGsmart world or something.
Perhaps the firmware didn't wipe the app data partition before it flashed over.
Are you sure it was the phone and not the location you're at that's caused your reception issues? Almost all locations should have adequate 3g at least now.

Help - Connection problem/lag after upgrading Android 8.0

Hello everyone. I have a samsung galaxy s7 edge (SM G935F) and i recently received the android 8.0.0 from samsung. Downloaded and installed directly via the cellphone.
But after updating i am getting this internet/connection drop issues a lot.
Now a lot of times when im connected in wifi or using the 4g mobile internet, im getting a lot of internet lag/drops. Example: at whatsapp, when i sens a message, the clock appears and only after a little rhe time the message is send.
Example 2: at facebook, somerimes it lags and takes too long to load the content (same happening in instagram). Or at clash of clans, it is showing that symbol of internet issue.
Besides those internet bugs/lags, the android 8.0.0 is ok.
I already did a factory reset yesterday via the phone, and saved the files with smart switch. But the problem persists. I also checked and my wifi internet and my mobile internet are ok.
Does anyone knows how to fix this issue? Is there a newer version of the ROM, maybe? Or if not, is ir possible to downgrade to android 7 again (really wouldnt like this option but....)?
If anyone could help that would be great. But for the record:im really newbie at android stuffs....if you can help, please could you explain step by step?
Thanks everyone
Another bug i am noticing: besides the internet crash/drop (wifi and 4g), i've noticed that it is taking too long to charge (around 3h...3:30h), even with fast charge.
Does anyone knows how to fix those bugs, or anyone is having those issues ?
Can i flash again the BTU ROM of android 8.0 from UK, with CSC from android 7.x from Brazil (ZTO)??? I mean, is it compatible?
thanks

Hi,
My S7e has just upgraded to 8.0.0 and is now having the same wifi lag issue. Did you manage to find a fix?
Thanks
Ady
I'm also noticing the same issue with my S7E. I'm on XEU.
Has anyone got the same issues with BTU as I'm considering swapping over?

I fixed the issue on my device. The problem was having power saving mode enabled, I use to run it all the time on nougat and never had an issue. Yet I turned it off and now there's no connection lag what so ever.
I was having the same issue with btu xeu even custom. On Oreo my wifi switch went totally gray and screen pattern unlock would also take 20-25 sec to unlock but then I flashed this kernel and everything works like a charm.
