When will it update to ICS?
Any announcement?
There were no real announcements.
A few weeks ago the Lenovo Forums admin said that their devs were looking at Honeycomb 3.2 and ICS 4.0 didn't know whether to bring another 3.2 update or directly 4.x (as seen on this page)
Some time later another Lenovo-guy said that the next update is planned to be released in January - but no information what it will be. (can't find this post now)

Thank you for your information.
Only thing I can do is wait..
No root, lack of update...damn it.
Yeah, this sucks pretty hard. Let's hope we can attract some devs that root this damn thing

I heard bootloader is unlocked, I don't know why it's so hard....
PS I'm not a developer and I don't know s.h.i.t about this damn thing. lol
The boot loader is unlocked in the sense that you can update a genuine lenovo signed update.zip yourself manually, but you can not install unsigned images, so I would not consider this to really be "unlocked"
Good news for once! A quote from Mark_Lenovo from this thread on the Lenovo Community forums.
All,
I believe that our current course will be to go directly to Android 4.0 (ICS) on this product and I believe that will still be a few months away. Hopefully I'll have some official words to give on that soon.
In the meantime, we are continuing to work on interim OTA updates to address issues raised by the community.
Hang in there
Mark

Hope this unofficial announcement from lenovo has more weight than official promises from lg (have an lg black in 2.2 :/)
Shocked and disappointed to know that the XDA members are not working in the G3.
One month (or more) after the device was out, no custom recovery has been published, no one has published a post of CM, OmniROM or other ROM that isn't based on LG UI.
I think maybe I made a mistake buying this phone.

Don't know how to make a ROM.
Starting to feel the same way with the lack of roms available for the handset.
I'm sure we will get more support tho, the g2 was quite well supported so fingers crossed is just a waiting game.
Surly cyanogenmod will support the g3 as they cover so many devices.

 OP do you not understand the phone isn't even released in the USA? It won't be yet for another two weeks, I bet most of the developers that will work with this phone will be in the USA region (who will have to bypass locked bootloader)
Be patient and stop having buyers remorse so soon. Also note that LG is not as popular as Samsung phones so it will take a little more time.

This, plus it JUST was released in the UK - which many of the developers are likely from as well. Also, it's likely this will be more popular than the S5 in the states as well so developer support should be booming.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)

I've ported the philz recovery to the G3 but i cannot find the right way to start it since the bootloader is locked and the loki way don't work. We need to find a way to bypass the lock and then the development will start quickly.

Having just installed omnirom with it having the ota updates, once android L is officially released, will all nightlies adapt to it on current installs? Or will that be a whole new install? Just curious. Thanks
Without the code handy, it'll be hard to say for sure. I'd hazard a guess and say new Android base, new nightly branch. But that's just a guess.
I agree with you. Because it's a new code, I also think that you'll need the whole new installation after all..
Sent from my Xperia S using XDA Free mobile app
There's a good chance from a developer standpoint it'll require major rework/rebasing.
From a user standpoint, it SHOULD be feasible to do a straight upgrade without wiping. (Although in the case of features that aren't re-implemented yet when L nightlies start, they'll reset to their defaults when they make it back in.) You will NOT be able to downgrade without wiping or restoring a backup though.
As a historical reference - many of my devices that were running 4.3 Omni were upgraded straight to 4.4, even though we started from scratch with 4.4
Well it's close to nexus6 release... Any news if omnirom will adapt to Lollipop or require a new rom?

If you mean "will moving to L require a wipe?" - Only if we screw something up. Android is designed to allow for seamless upgrades from one version to another, in fact, in the commercial world, requiring a wipe to upgrade will render you ineligible for GMS (gapps) licensing I'm fairly certain.
As to "all nightlies" - probably quite a few devices are going to get dropped with L. Almost surely the Exynos 4210 family, good chance quite a few of the Exynos 4412 family (I'd prefer to make it ALL of them tbh, and get that hell platform out of our codebase...), and probably a few other devices.
Other than Exynos4, we won't know until L gets released.
I'm on the sprint galaxy nexus which just recently got support for omnirom. Hopefully it will get L.. It will save me buying the nexus 6 as I will be happy to upgrade and keep my device. Great job/rom.

Unless Google drops source earlier than normal (read: typically not until a few days after the first OTAs go out to Nexus devices), I wouldn't expect work to even start until November. (Since it sounds like the earliest OTAs and devices shipping are going to be November 3, which means that's the earliest possible date to even think about doing work unless Google drops source earlier than they ever have in the history of Android.)
Discussion about the LG Android 5.0 update for our beloved G3.
How long do you think we will wait im guessing Jan or Feb next year!
Maby LG can surprise us,(not like bootloader unlock fiasco)
Please feel free to leave your thought
I'm not waiting anything from LG. I had LG's best phones till now, the Optimus 2x and now the G3. They make awesome and powerful devices but they are crap at software developing. I bought the G3 for its hardware specifications. Now I'm just waiting for the developers to start working on roms, kernels, etc.... They will do a grate job I know it! So be patient and wait for the developers and not LG

Ask the developers on LG.
Probably a slightly faster timeframe to the G2 getting 4.4, which was the end of March. LG do seem to have stepped up their game a bit since the G2, but we will see. My guess is also Jan/feb.
I wonder if there is a 5.0 Lollipop Launcher we can install?
Hey quick question friends!
If i have a rooted LG G3, will i need to unroot before updating to the new android OS?
Probably should note that i've removed a ton of the bloatware as well. I'm hearing that i may need to have all that back to update,
and if that's the case then i'll just return to stock and then update.
Thanks!
I tweeted LG UK and they don't seem to have any idea of a timeframe for Lollipop. That's actually a little depressing.
I'm guessing not any time soon
I think on may or jun 2015
I don't think LG's software division is very efficient, and will take time to update their stock apps to material design. HTC's software division is great & they promised and update within 90 days so I'm guessing LG would probably take around 150 days(hopefully) which means probably some time around March-April.
LOL LG is utterly horrible with updates...
So I wouldn't get my hopes up for any LolliLove any and I mean any time soon..
If I had to guess. I'd say May... LOL or better yet after the G4 is released....

IT'S OVER 9000!!
In the ballpark of May 2015... Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if G4 runs 4.4.4. LG makes GOAT phones, but there sw Dev division is horrible... It'll also be interesting to see some of the more ugly stock apps being "updated" to material design..

There is no reason that LG need to update its apps for Material design. All the new look will likely be ignored and the UI will be the same as it is now. All they have to do is make a working ROM based on 5, which is mostly about drivers and APIs, not the look.

Ofcourse there is no "need" as such, but I'm pretty sure they will be updating the apps(which like I said with LG's software div will take some time). Releasing an L update without updating its stock apps won't do good for the experience & LG's standing especially when Samsung has already almost finished updating TouchWiz to Material Design.
With Material Design hyped as a USP for Lollipop, I don't think any OEM would(ideally) just release a stock ROM without updating its stock apps.
We will most likely see CM12 for our phone before a release from LG.

I fully agree.
Android 5.0 may be available sooner than people think. It's possible that the reason LG haven't updated from 4.4.2 is because they decided to just wait for 5.0 and they will just go straight to that. Maybe. So I'm going to say late January/early February for an update.

Frankly, no

does anyone know how the progess on lollipop for xoom is ?
what are the problems they are facing?
as there are other devices with tegra 2 that already have lollipop roms out
like galaxy tab 10.1 and i guess asus transformer
i seems the team eos and shishu have hit certain roadblocks
just wondering what those are...

I'd just be happy with a working link to get my Xoom rooted properly

No idea! I'm using CM11 (20141130). Still working well, but I'd also like to see the future on my Xoom. I don't know about ASUS, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have an OMNI 5.1.1 that was recently released. I think that this is comparable to Lollipop 5.1.1.
I might just try to download and dissect the codes for both operating systems, and try reverse engineering. If I have some time next week I'll see if I can figure things out.

I'm really surprised at you. Schischu is a very reliable friend and developer who has always come through for us. On another thread he has said that he has most of the code done, yet not managed to get the camera working yet. There's no reason why he should lie to us, so you can do one of two or three things.
1. Wait patiently (I did this, even going so far as to buy a new Xoom about two weeks ago). By the way,I just love it. Got it up to speed with CM11 a couple of days ago. CM11 is a very good, very stable Rom.
2. Start coding for the Xoom yourself. I think that you might not be able to get up to speed so very fast as you'd need to.
3. As long as you're rich, buy another tablet and don't worry about the rest of us.

Opinions are like noses, everyone has one , but not at all of them are very pretty or handsome . You know it dawns on me that since you can write code for the xoom , then perhaps you should write the lollipop code yourself and stop complaining . I'd love to see the fruit of your efforts. No one else has come rushing onto the stage with any pronouncements of a nearly feasible lollipop Rom for the Xoom. At least Schischu is saying that he's working on it. As I said, if you're so smart, then write the code yourself and release it to us as a finished product . It would be nice to have. Again, do something, or sit it out till the next act comes on stage.
In the meantime, I'm using cyanogen mod 11.0 (20141130) , which is an android 4.4.4 clone , very full featured, and capable in the extreme.
As it is , I know the Xoom is not the fastest tablet in the world, and I know there will come a day when I'll be trading up to something different. However, at the moment , I'm very happy with my Xoom, and using it to the greatest possible extent .
I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but only concerned that in your impatience you appear to be so irritating that you may chase off the one real ray of hope we've had on the next generation of Xoom development.
By the way, I'd genuinely love to see what you can do with the lollipop code.

Sorry dude, this is not happening... I'm not telling i'm better than Schischu, just want to see more proofs than a Settings/About Screen that can be faked with some changes on Build.prop and Settings.apk resources... i know this as my Xoom is faked as an Xperia Tablet s (SGPT12) so i can download Mortal Kombat X and play on it...
And i think anyone can use the Rom he wants, i'm still on JB 4.1.2 compiled from AOSP and happy with what my Xoom is capable to do with it... so if you are running CM 11, congratulations to you, and why you don't try and start to play with AOSP code and see what you can achieve with it...
