I live in Houston, I own an LG G2, in my apartment l get LTE but it cycles pretty bad from LTE to null reception and LTE doesn't last long.
I am interested in knowing if the reception is better on the T-Mobile G4 with band 12 or the International G4 with T-Mobile service?
Reception seems to be on par with my s6 edge, both of which are better than my iphone 6. Band 12 coverage is great as I use it every day. Mine is tmo branded. I tried a sgs6 unlocked intl version 920i and it's band 12 reception was terrible and wouldn't stay connected. There is clearly some fine tuning on the carrier branded version. Maybe the G4 intl version would be better, but who knows.

Don't know about the 815 but on the 811 I get data reception in places I couldn't on my G3..
My T-Mobile H811 gets really good LTE. At home I got a free LTE Booster. Just call them and they'll ship u one.

I did exactly that a day or 2 before jumping to the g4 from the g3 because of the FUBAR WiFi calling on the LP update.
No more worries about dropping calls in my apt.
I just use Wi-Fi calling when the reception is sketchy.
Reception in NYC is great. Even without root I'm using my G4 every day.
Reception is very good. Better than both my nexus 5 & 6 and equal to the GS6. Atlanta ga and surrounding
I live in Katy, just west of Houston, I have the G4 from T-Mobile and have had no issues with service

Palm Beach County, FL here. Area is known for strong LTE service with T-Mobile. At work, I bring in the same 5/5 bars I did with the Note 4 with similar speeds down and up (25-48 down and 10-25 up). At my house is where this seems to be much be better than the Note 4. Note 4 would occasionally pick up 1 bar of LTE in my house (most of the time dropping down to 3G/4G)....obviously being better if I was on the second floor. G4 picks up 3-4/5 bars of LTE everywhere in the house. It might also be due to the fact that T-Mobile is putting extensive work into the network in this area (as well as other areas) as they finalize their conversion of MetroPCS's towers, but I've only had the G4 since Sunday (6/7) and the conversion of Metro was supposed to have been finished in this area at the end of May...
Either way, it's at least on par but in my experience better than the Note 4's reception. I've also noticed that voice calls take less time to initialize than the Note 4.

I'm on Verizon. My signal strength is above what my lg g2 was. Pulled 61 down where I never could with g2 in same area.

That's why i don't buy Samsung phones. One guy stated in another thread he was keeping 4g in his basement and never had on previous phones. Sounds good to me.

i currently have the note 4 and i get crappy signals even at my school which is in downtown miami
My signal is better on X Pure than my Galaxy S6. Call quality is much better sounding to me also.
I had a S5 two weeks ago, I sold it and bought the nexus 6 when it went on sale at best buy for $350 a week ago.
My S5 would get lte in my house, 2 signal bars and -112dbm. The nexus 6 had a signal bug where it would go from 2 bars to no signal at all and it raped my battery, it wouldn't get lte in the basement either. The signal bug killed my battery, I always had time without signal between 12-20%
I took the nexus 6 back today and got the moto x pure 16gb at best buy it was the only phone they had in stock so I bought it. Signal is great in the basement, -100dbm, 2-3 signal bars all the time and lte works great.
All the phones were on the Verizon network in northeast ohio
I didn't have any official measurements running but all I know is that tonight at a concert inside Key Arena, I had almost full bars of LTE service on my MPX and my girlfriend had barely one bar of edge on her G4

Just curious, who's your provider?
MOTO X PURE EDITION!
I just went into settings > more > cellular networks > and hit network operators. It'll search for a while and then populate a list of providers ... I selected mine (T-Mobile) in lieu of "choose automatically" and noticed when I backed out of that screen my "preferred network type" had changed. Instead of simply saying "LTE" it shows a bunch more modes (assuming those specific to T-Mo). Of course it's too early to tell the impact of this, but it seems I have more bars (and a slightly better dBm). We'll see what happens
Just wondering if could be faulty unit or Sprint signal problems but i've been getting dropping signals randomly inside of my house, and also friend telling me that they called me but i never them calls, if more ppl like me?

Do you think should I request an RMA for my phone? Or maybe is Sprint side
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Just helped my girlfriend's mom with her new phone today (she's not had a smartphone before). I was very pleasantly surprised and happy for her that her phone registered 10-12 dBm better signal than my S6 (S6 and MXP both on Sprint right next to each other on the countertop).
Edit: I don't know that it would make a difference, but maybe just verify as an easy check, see if it is set to LTE. Her phone was initially set to Global, for some reason (it worked either way, but I didn't pay attention to signal before switching it to LTE).
I think Global is for aloud the phone to be selecting either LTE, 3G or 1x based on the signal, so if we switch to LTE only as soon I move to LTE ill be losing data

Want to switch to T-Mobile from VZW at end of my Verizon billing cycle around Nov4 (anywhere before that maybe like 2-3 days)
How is signal treating you guys without band12?
I will be joining my friends plan he has 2 lines for 100 unlimited everything so my line will be +40
I understand on 5.1.1 there is no wifi calling on Moto X but that might change in 6.0 and maybe with 6.0 they will add band12?
One place I travel to frequently has very bad tmo signal inside the building nothing has changed since year ago when I tested tmobile otherwise everywhere I go signal is always great (while I tested)
I'm guessing that you're on the East Coast, in the NY area (based on the screenshot of your Speedtest results). I'm also there, and I recently switched from Verizon to Ting (which runs on the T-Mobile network).
What can I say? Verizon is king when it comes to coverage, signal strength, and network speed. Absolutely unbeatable anywhere along the Northeast Corridor (Boston to Washington DC). If you are highly mobile for work in remote areas (e.g. upstate New York), then you'll want to stick with Verizon purely for coverage reasons.
T-Mobile coverage and signal strength is going to be lower than Verizon in most areas, but will still retain acceptable signal strength in most areas that aren't rural. Network speeds on LTE are acceptable (around 8Mbps - 12Mbps downstream, and 1.0Mbps upstream).
If you spend most of the time on your smartphone near WiFi, you'll be fine switching to TMobile to save yourself some money.

Yea man that's what the plan is. The one place I spend a lot of time has weak service otherwise everywhere I am is great signal so I am silently hoping that either 6.0 or moto releases new radio fast with band12 support so I can dump Verizon forever and ever lol
By the way were you receiving calls from winback team from Verizon? just wondering I don't have contract anymore so it wouldn't matter and they would not be able to offer me anything anyway but for people who were on contract they would cancel your contract if you came back and all that sort of stuff
I moved from Verizon to T-Mobile a few years back with no issues. I would double check if the location your referring to has any type of WiFi close by. Keep in mind Motorola has really good antennas so if you tested it a year ago on a different phone (Samsung or Nexus 5) it might hold a signal better. At one point I had a Nexus 5 and MotoX 2013 and one of the main reasons I kept the MotoX was due to significantly better signals in the same place.

Nexus 6 has had it for a while, I remember testing it, didn't care for it, haven't had a need to use it yet. It's not available yet for the MotoX but it's expected (not sure if confirmed) to be activated with marshmallow. I will state that marshmallow has a new toggle for it so I wouldn't be surprised if every phone has it at some point.

You can see if Band 12 is in a particular area with this: http://www.spectrumgateway.com/t-mobile-700a-spectrum . Combined with T-Mobile official coverage map, you should be able to get a good idea of the T-Mobile coverage of an area.
It looks like T-Mobile is using Band 12 to fill out national coverage gaps. That's a good thing IMO, if Band 12 has reach/penetration like they say it does. (I live where there is no Band 12 yet, so I haven't tested it.) There are maps floating around (see tmonews.com for example) of the national coverage that T-Mobile plans by end of the year, this planned coverage looks like a blanket similar to Verizon, I think much of this will be the added Band 12 areas. Based on T-Mobile track record, I believe they will get there, if not by end of year then not long after that.
I bought the MXPE counting on Motorola to update it with Band 12 /VoLTE support in the near future, with the idea that it will support it by the time Band 12 is deployed where I need it. The LTE Discovery app is a good tool to see what LTE Band (or other) the phone is using in a particular area, too.
There are still gaps in the T-Mobile national coverage where Verizon has decent coverage while T-Mobile does not. I traveled through one a few days ago, in a rural area about 15 miles from my house. Verizon phone had decent signal, but T-Mobile phones (MXPE and iPhone 6s) had no signal. Since iPhone 6s has robust wireless support including Band 12 /VoLTE, the fact that it had no signal there means there was no T-Mobile signal.
So you just have to look at the maps and see if T-Mobile has coverage where you want coverage. That and actual testing. (If I was on Verizon considering T-Mobile, I would probably buy a month of prepaid T-Mobile or MetroPCS service, pop the T-Mobile SIM in the XT1575, and just try it. "One proper test is worth a thousand expert opinions".)
One thing adding even more wrinkles to all this is the increasing number of LTE roaming arrangements between the tier 1 carriers...

T-Mobile for data hogs like me is great. Unlimited data for $30, I used around 10GB a month alone. But that is the only reason I use T-Mobile. Coverage pretty much sucks. If I am in the Bay Area CA its fine great signal. As soon as I leave the area I'm lucky if I get 3G speeds let alone a signal. Indoors is even worse. Went to the movies the other day, phone was dead inside no signal at all. My friend who is on At&t got a full 4 bars of LTE. T-Mobile is great for data and coverage in the cities, you leave those cities and you'll be lucky to even get a signal...

I mainly spend time in the city Brookyln & Queens so I don't think it should be an issue but one place where I spend a lot of time otherwise everywhere else it's pretty good when I tested it.
Cell Spot
If there is one place you work or live with poor coverage, T-Mobile also has a couple of options that are basically either a range extended or an internal "tower" so you can use your phone inside where you don't get coverage.
https://support.t-mobile.com/community/coverage/personal-cellspot/4g-lte-signal-booster
Ugh. In principle, I'm not a fan of that at all.
T-Mobilr is basically telling cuatomers to buy hardware, install it themselves, possibly connect it to their home internet networks (and use your bandwidth), for potentially multiple people that don't live in your household.
All of this, because T-Mobile didn't invest in building out network infrastructure like Verizon did.

So I am testing tmobile in some place I mainly spend 2 time in 2 places , 1 there is edge and weak LTE -116 around that,I just can't do anthing for the phone to pick up band12 signal. I am running true-pure-x MM
always band4 or HSPA/+ or EDGE.
Any of you guys on Verizon any info on signal strength? Does the phone connect up to LTE and hold on to it in the tough spots?

Yes, from my experience, the phone connects up to LTE and holds onto it in tough spots. It is pretty good at holding on to 3G as well.
Also, the Nexus 6P supports VoLTE on Verizon (as long as you have the "Advanced Calling" feature added to your account.

Our house is a pretty bad spot for signal strength, data and call quality in general, GSM signal seems to be better than CDMA according to my informal surveys. We have Verizon (obviously) with contracts ending in December and have been thinking of switching to T-Mobile or Fi for call quality at home among other things (like money ).
Anyway, the 6P is holding onto LTE signal in the house, and I just called my wife from the house and the call quality was excellent. She on her HTC One M7 (soon to be a 6P, most likely) and me on my 6P. I'm very impressed.

Thanks been on Verizon forever I'm north in Wi and TMobile gets voice here but no data.Verizon and USCell are the only 4G here and I have to be on a network extender here in the cabin to get calls. Once I get on the main roads I get an assortment of 1X 3G 4G and no signal. Verizon is the best by far though. I have went through a lot of phones because some just did not work. Although they have been getting better I have been sticking with Moto because of the good radios. I'm on a Nexus 6 now which is good but I couldn't control myself p6 came out had to get it. Hello,
I bought the unlocked Moto G4 from best buy last week to use with ATT. I started the phone initially without any sim card in it. Next time i restarted i put in the sim card and it detected as att sim card and everything seems to work until when I notice that when i am in my office building I only see H and not 4G LTE. I had Nokia 640 earlier which was ATT go phone and i was getting 4G LTE on it in my office building. And I have also got LTE earlier on other phone in same building. I checked the APN settings and they looked ok since I am getting 4G LTE at most of the places. chatted/talked to ATT and they are of no help, they are saying that since its not ATT and unlocked phone, there is no guarantee that you will get lte everywhere and may be the antenna could be weak on the phone. But I am just not sure if I got a faulty piece or what. Since even the lower end lumia 640 was giving me lte in my office building. I am not sure if I should just return and get another piece or just return it for this issue.
Any help is much appreciated..
There are several good apps on Play that show you cell signal strengths and such. Do a search in Play for "cell signal info" and try one of those apps. It will at least give you a place to start and a comparison tool to compare phones.

I own a G3 and a Moto X Pure, I am on AT&T and have noticed the past few days LTE seems very... umm, weak I guess... at least in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, and my phone was falling back to HSPA+ way more often than "normal" this week (I travel here every week). I thought I was crazy but maybe there is more too it than that. I do know that AT&T has been doing lots of upgrades recently and rolling out LTE-A, or at least some kind of LTE upgrade, in some areas. Back home my LTE speeds consistenyl went from 20Mbps to 70Mbps down and 5Mbps to 25Mbps up in the last couple of weeks.
Best thing to do would be get a signal strength app, like LTE Discovery or Network Signal Info, and compare it to another phone on the same carrier in the same area and band (LTE Discovery will tell you the LTE Band you are using). Remember that not all phones report it the same, it can be wildly different, but it might give you some insight.
My point is, it may not be your hardware... and Moto's in general are known for really good signal reception. Just do some due diligence before returning it, but if you feel it is hardware, but all means exchange it.
thanks guys..will try it out..
Maybe I am being paranoid, but sometimes I wonder if cell carriers some how optimize their LTE signal to work better with their own phones. I have noticed this on T-Mobile when I always seem to get a stronger signal with a T-Mobile branded phone than with a third party unlocked device.

LOL... No, carriers have the ROM modified to make the icon show more bars on their subsidized phones. They can't actually throttle 3rd party phones on the same plan as a carrier branded ones, legally at least.

That's what I thought., although I still wonder why I usually get a better LTE signal with T-Mobile branded phones. This seems to be especially noticeable since I have upgraded to Marshmallow. Recently, I have or have owned a T-Mobile LG G4, an LG G3, an Axon Pro, and a Moto X Pure. As a rule I have noticed the signal strength being stronger on the T-Mobile branded phones.

Actual signal strength or the icon? LTE Discovery usually shows the truth...
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
This is based on readings from LTE Discovery, not the number of bars the phone is displaying. I suppose you could also come to the conclusion that LG phones have a stronger radio signal than other phones.
I'm having the same problem with both of my g4's in my area and seattle international airport... if it's not working there... then where will it work?

I checked the APN settings and they looked ok since I am getting 4G LTE at most of the places. chatted/talked to ATT and they are of no help, they are saying that since its not ATT and unlocked phone, there is no guarantee that you will get lte everywhere and may be the antenna could be weak on the phone. But I am just not sure if I got a faulty piece or what. Since even the lower end lumia 640 was giving me lte in my office building. I am not sure if I should just return and get another piece or just return it for this issue.
Any help is much appreciated..

I'm having the same problem with both of my g4's in my area and seattle international airport... if it's not working there... then where will it work?

Yeah well I ended up keeping the phone. Someone else in the same building also reported lower quality signal with even Iphone and moto g4, all other areas we are getting lte so guess, i took my chances.

Using "nxtgenphone" APN? Sometimes LTE doesn't work unless you do

I ended up calling att and they provisioned my line for lte. Fixed both phones.
