need help, vpn issue on KK and Lollipop - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, straight to the point, i have an issue with vpn on kk and lollipop. im using droidvpn with zero balance. it worked on JB. it says connected and i can surf using premium server. but when i update to KK or lollipop. even it says connected, the vpn does not tunnel or route the connection. anyone here experience the same issue? i read that it was cause by IPV6 which im not really sure. but on JB, it worked and does not have any problem at all. at the mean time i have to downgrade to JB again and again. i tought it was fixed on latest lollipop.
I already tested on my other phones such as N3 N2 Z2 Z1 S5,it has no problem at all like I did with my BS S4. On my S4 it connected to the vpn but no traffic at all. I think the culprit was the firmware on BS S4. I wanna throw this BS S4.

Try this:
https://droidvpn.com/page/routing-problem-on-android-44-and-art-issue-53/
You could probably better ask it at droidvpn.

I already send them email but they had no customer service at all or even reply. But in my case I'm sure its not their apps problem. It the S4 problem. I tried on my other phone it does not have issue like my S4 did. All vpn routing goes very well even on kk or lollipop but on my S4. It only worked on JB.

well vpn not working on lollipop

[Q] Nexus 4 Android 4.3 problems

I have a new google play nexus 4 that came w/Android 4.2 and I immediately updated to Android 4.3. Problem one is Bluetooth cannot discover my Bluetooth ear piece; and problem two is that I can’t get a connection without Wi-Fi. Without Wi-Fi I can’t load any web info so I can’t use google maps. I guess I am not getting data. Is this a problem with Android 4.3? Is there a fix for this or is there a setting somewhere I don’t know about? I have the correct APN, I got the info from straightTalk for mt T-Mobile sim, and everything is stock on my phone. Thanks for help.
Did all of this work properly before the update?

I don't know because I up dated right out of the box. From what I am reading on the net these were problems w/4.2 and continued w/ 4.3.

[Q] Cannot download MMS on AT&T Galaxy S4.

This has been driving me nuts. Keep receiving the download button on all MMS messages on both of our phones. Clicking on download does nothing.
Me and the Wife are both having the same problem. I'm on MDL and she is on MF3 and we are both running stock Galaxy S4's. We could send and receive MMS's when we first got the phones and they both stopped being able to do it around the same time. I've rooted mine but her's is pure stock. Data is on and we have also tried wifi. Nothing seems to work. Can receive regular text messages and access the internet. Just MMS's won't work.
Any ideas? I'm at a loss here!
Have you checked the apns?

I did and the APNs seem to be ok. Did some more digging and is there a known issue with Adblocker Plus blocking MMS messages? I tried turning that off and it suddenly got my MMS's sending and receiving again. Odd thing is my Wife's S4 doesn't have it installed and was having the exact same issue. Going to test further and see if just leaving Adblocker Plus off solves it.
Just want to confirm that this was an adblock issue for me. As soon as I turned adblock off, mms worked like a charm.

I had same problems all the time until I update to KitKat. This is common bug for this builds. Try some KitKat roms from development section. Or if you don't care about root or recovery ETC. just update to KitKat.

I'm running [KitKat][RoM]&[KERNEL]&[RECOVERY][I337-XXUFNB8-4.4.2-KK][SHOstock-i v5.0] [03/01/14] and updated my modem 2 different times and still no luck.
My husband has the same phone S4, not rooted, and today he finally updated his phone to kitkat through AT&T ota and he's having the same issue with sending/receiving MMS.

Then this can be problem with sim card. Go to closest At&t store and replace them.
I use to have this problem on an older phone, S2, whenever I was connected to wifi when I received an MMS. Disconnecting from the wifi and trying again to download the MMS worked.

Talk about unearthing an old message!
Yeah, I haven't had this issue in ages. No issue on either of our S4s. Mine is rooted and her's is stock but neither of us have upgraded to Kit Kat yet. Still have Adblock on my phone but haven't experienced any issues. Can't remember what all I had to do to resolve the issue but it's been working fine ever sense!
I had a similar issue and this fixed it.

Wifi Hotspot Issue

Hi all
I installed KitKat factory images last friday and apart from a few FCs with some apps, everything was running fine. It was like this until i needed to use the phone as a wifi hotspot.
Computers can connect to the phone, but they can´t reach the Internet. I tried all tethering methods available: wifi, USB and bluetooth. No one of them worked.
So, i went to google and downloaded KRT16S (the one i had was KRT16O) and USB tethering started working just fine (it was not in the previous release). WIFI hotspot is still the same though. Machines can successfully connect to the phone but they can´t browse the Internet. A friend of mine using the same carrier as me confirmed it was not operator blocking internet connection sharing (anyway, USB works...).
Could anyone do some testing and report here? Thank you very much!!

I dug a little deeper, and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512674&page=8 resolved it, but you need to be rooted.
It seems to be a combination of a settings change with 4.4, and a change on T-Mobile's end as well. Just as many people seem to have resolved this by calling T-Mobile and having them make sure their account is provisioned properly.

That didn´t seem to work here. Still no Internet when using WIFI hotspot. While i know it´s easy to install a custom rom i would like it work out of the box with a stock rom, the way it should be. Maybe i´ll try to downgrade to 4.3 and see how it goes. Meanwhile, if someone has something else to add...
thx

If I were to guess, it's due to the fact that 4.4 now specifically checks to see if you are provisioned for tethering if you are on T-Mobile, and even though almost all plans on T-Mobile include tethering now, it may be that due to the recent plan changes at T-Mobile some accounts may be provisioned incorrectly.
I'm going to have T-Mobile check my account, because even though it's working for me now, I am curious.
Just to add something... Im not on t-mobile. I'm from Brazil and my carrier is Oi.

Ok...upon further testing it is almost certain that it´s something related to the notebook i was trying to connect with the phone. Just did some testing with my desktop computer and it worked just fine with a stock install of KK. I don´t know why that same notebook connected to the internet when i tried tethering with a friend´s iPhone 5. Anyway, all appears to be ok and carrier block is ruled out.
Thank you all for the valuable input!!
you rock

rooting will not kill your network connection. that's something that you did. you need to provide a LOT more information in order to have people help you out,
what ROM are you on, what settings did you change, what mobile carrier are you on, etc. etc. this is a simple fix, but we need to know what caused it first. :good:

Well the person above me said it. You just made a mountain out of a mole hill by giving out your imei to everyone on xda. Anyway, have you tried a factory reset? If that doesn't work take it to Best Buy and tell them Kies wrecked havoc on your device and they can re-flash your phone for free. Don't tell them it was your fault.

I don't know what the problem is but you should be able to flash the stock firmware in Odin and get your phone working again. Double check this in the i9500, i9505, i9505G S4 forum. You can get the stock firmware from sammobile.com

He should be able to flash it himself. The i9505 is not locked down like the i337. It's an international version so he probably can't take it to best buy, which is what I was responding to.

Data enabled, but no internet connection
Hello,
I have the stock rooted i337 (AT&T), running on another provider network. I am aware that i337 is very difficult to do modifications due to the built-in by AT&T vicious locks to prevent using it with other network providers. This is the reason I did not flash ROM, because I am afraid to get my phone bricked and lose it entirely. Recently I subscribed to a data plan from a third party provider and I have 4G in the status line and HSPA in the data type, but I still did not have internet connection when WiFi was disabled, except that my Hotmail somehow worked. No other apps requiring internet worked. I spent a week researching the issue myself as well as working with the provider's tech support, but nothing worked. Two days ago, almost out of despair, I installed a new app called Opera Max, which is developed to route the unencrypted data to their Virtual Private Network in order to compress it and save the data use. As soon as I connected to VPN, all applications started working. I still have to turn Opera Max off when I use WiFi, because it disconnects my WiFi every few minutes, claiming that WiFi signal is too low. (My signal is very strong and no other devices have any issues with WiFi). However, this is a minor problem, considering that Opera Max saved my data plan.
It is still a mystery to me why Hotmail worked, but no other apps and why using Opera Max VPN solved the problem. If anybody has ideas, I will be happy to hear.
I must say that all data settings, including APN are checked, rechecked and correct, so this was not the issue.
Thanks,
Dan
I am also having connection issues after rooting my S4 i9505:
I am on a Telcel (Mexico) which is supposed to support 4G connections... However, ever since I rooted I can only access 2G/GSM networks. I have the official APN network configuration and I have tried two roms but still no luck...
Any advice would be most welcome.

[Q] NK1 & WiFi Tether/Hotspot

I am asking this on behalf of a (less technical) family member with a VZW Note 3 that was just updated from NC4 to NK1. The person was a big user of WiFi tethering (hotspot) when on NC4, and she says she's now having trouble connecting in NK1 which she received yesterday. Has there been any changes to that feature, and if so, do I need to install anything (official or otherwise) to get WiFi tethering back?
My understanding is that the update brought her from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, and I'm not sure if it's related to that. She was using whatever the TW stock method of accessing hotspot was under NC4 (no FoxFi, etc.). I will see the phone in person this afternoon to try and troubleshoot, but I'd appreciate any insight in advance.
Thanks,
Nick

Was this person using legit paying Verizon for the privilege of teathering? If so I would reset the stock app and set it back up.

The person was using the legit app (i.e. she's on a non-unlimited plan where tethering is allowed). I had a chance to swing by this afternoon and look at the phone, and it was a simple fix. I'm not sure if the update caused this but basically sharing was locked down to just Allowed Devices. I reset the stock app, made sure All Devices were allowed, and she is all set.
The real sad thing is she actually brought the phone to a VZW corporate store and they couldn't figure this out... Anyways, glad it was simple and tethering works as expected in 4.4.4.
