NUC and Sony Warranty - Xperia Z3 Compact General

I want to unlock my Z3 Compact from Vodafone in the UK, and move to 3. Vodafone charge £20 for a network unlock code, whereas third party options offer a NUC for £5.
However, using a third party sourced code invalidates the warranty from Vodafone (expected) and direct with Sony! I would have expected Sony to support their phones irrelevant of network registration, but this is not the case... they say that entering a third party supplied NUC is "tampering with software".
I realise xda is the place for "tampering", but I don't mod all my hardware, primarily because I use Sky Go on some devices, which means no rooting, custom ROMs, etc. It pains me, but, if I am not going to root, etc, I think it is worth paying Vodafone to keep the remaining 18 months of warranty. What does everyone here think? While I am not entirely surprised, I am really disappointed in Sony for supporting this corporate back scratching with the networks.
Here is the transcript of the support chat:
Anna: Thank you for providing me with this information, Please could you confirm which model of phone you have and which network it is on?
Stuart: Z3 Compact on Vodafone
Anna: Thank you for providing me with this information, with regards to the query you posted if your device is unlocked by a third party, this would void the warranty on your device
Stuart: Even if unlocked with a NUC (not using cable/hardware). Does this impact the integrity of the hardware?
Anna: If you request the NUC code from the network, this will not void the warranty on your device.
Stuart: OK. Are you able to tell me why there is this difference?
Stuart: I expected Sony to support their hardware irrelevant of a network lock in the software.
Anna: When a third party unlock the network on a device, they would not get the code, they would need to tamper with the software on the device to change the status. Tampering with the software would void the warranty.
Stuart: What I have seen is third parties supplying an NUC code that is entered by me when I put a new SIM in the phone. Is this not the same as getting a NUC code from Vodafone?
Stuart: They say they get the code via Sony Servers
Stuart: and is connected to EMEI number
Stuart: The phone would not be out of my hands, so cannot be tampered with
Anna: No you would need to get the unlock code from the network directly to ensure that the warranty is intact Stuart
Stuart: I understand that is your policy, however, I am wondering what the reason is... are you able to shed more light on this policy?
Anna: I have already given you the reason, if the code is not authorised then it is still classed as tampering with the software.
Stuart: I see. Thanks. It is a shame that Sony will not support the hardware separate from the software.

How to unlock T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard, Qtek 9100, etc) in 60 seconds!?!?!

Well, I did it! In less than 60 seconds I got my phone unlocked - the only thing I am waiting is unlock code from T-Mobile to come to my e-mail and that's it.
All you need to do is to make up the story about going out of country (lets say to EU) for about 3-4 months and your meetings would be in danger if you dont have this perfect little personal assistant/pda phone unlocked - and in that kind conversation - you will get unlocking code very easily and fast.
No need for third party software hacking (possible damage!?) on the phone. You type it in and that's it
Ola to all of you guys !!!
you don't need to make up anything if your in the US, all carriers must unlock the device if you ask...if not, then u can sue them because its against the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) for them to refuse. it actually came into effect this year

Touch HD unlock by code service

Hi I can currently offer sim unlocking for Touch HD by code for £12.99
Simply supply me with details of country & network the device is locked to & the IMEI number
*be 100% sure to supply the correct IMEI*
Far simpler & safer than using patched radios to flash unlock & basically the same price.
Code unlocking also should not infringe your device warranty.
For more details PM me.

[Q] HTC HD2 unlock problem

I am looking at purchasing a HTC HD2 from ebay. Unfortunately, it was from a "batch of phones that had left the suppliers locked" The supplier eventually offered a refund and he also, maybe inadvertently kept the phone as well. When he now puts in the SIM card the message reads --"Service provider is locked. Please input unlock code." Apparently you can have these unlocked, but one site states that "This service will NOT remove your phone’s security lock" Can somebody please explain to me what this means? Is it correct that you can only enter the unlock code 5 times and then it is permanently locked? Is there any way round this? It seems a little strange that the phone provider supplied a locked phone, then provided the unlock code, which for some reason didn't work? I would appreciate any advice. The emei number appears to check out as far as it is not blocked. I will pay for an "official" check, if it appears that I can get round the unlock problem. I could always approach the original supplier and request an unlock code, and hope that their unlock procedure works the second time round?
Thanks
Which carrier is this from?
Usually when you enter it wrong x number of times you now have to enter the "unfreeze" code, which you should be able to get from the phone provider. Most online unlocks also have the unfreeze code.
What country & network was it locked to ?
Most can be easily unlocked via codes matched to the IMEI
*Do make sure IMEI on sticker in battery area matches that of actual mainboard IMEI when you dial *#06# to view IMEI on screen
Have entered more than 5 myself & been on a time out wait for quite some time ...
Security lock is to do with firmware certificate checking & nothing to do with SIM lock ...
I get all my codes from http://www.pdamagician.com/unlocking.html but if you tried some code already without success I would ask them if they have another code not matching what already been tried.
Other option is getting it unlocked via cable & software & this method can unlock SIM, CID & Security as required but you need to find a local shop that supports it ...
Also worth noting you need to be on Windows Mobile ROM to fully support the code unlocking.
Thanks for the replies
Supplier was Virgin UK
Just to clarify:
"Service provider is locked. Please input unlock code."
• This is security lock and can be unlocked by using:
o code from original phone supplier (Different one in this case).
o code from 3rd party online supplier such as pdamagician.
o cable connection using specialist software at local shop.
IMEI sticker number matches mainboard
• This can only be checked after unlocking security on phone as above?
I presume by windows mobile rom, you mean not running on other operating system such as android? The phone has never been used, so it will be on windows and therefore not be a problem?
Are these phones still available new anywhere?
I can still buy them new here in Bangkok but getting harder to find.
Vodafone UK should be easily SIM unlocked by genuine HTC code & if for some odd reason not software & cable will for sure.
I would get likes of pdamagician to verify the code you have already tried as suspect a genuine HTC IMEI database code will be different .

[Q] IMEI Blocked

Hi everyone,
I've recently purchased a phone online, and I don't have buyers protection as it was through Gumtree..
The phone has been IMEI Blocked by O2 (UK). Is there any way or unblocking or unlocking the phone using procedures found on thie site? IE. Rooting, custom roms etc?
Thanks V much!
T
Call them. If a phone is IMEI blocked, it's blocked at the carrier's end/network & unable to use their network, and in many countries, other carriers networks in that country (and also quite possibly networks in other countries). So as it's not something that's blocked phone-side, nothing anything here can do to solve this.
Can I request to have it unlocked/unblocked?
Experience on here has been (that I've seen anyway) varies widely from carrier to carrier (and country to country) & seems to depend on why it was blocked in the first place. The decision to block/unblock rests solely with the carrier concerned.
Call them, explain your situation, see what happens/hope for the best. I'm not familiar with any rights you may/may not have under UK law with regard to this, perhaps someone who lives there as you do might chime in & give you an idea of those.

Difference between SIM_UNLOCK and PCKUNLOCK?

Hello,
I just have unlocked my phone using the SIM_UNLOCK code and the process went smoothly...now I can use my phone...however besides SIM_UNLOCK code I also received:
NSLCKUNLOCK
CLCKUNLOCK
PCKUNLOCK
ESLCKUNLOCK= SP_LOCK
can anyone explain the meaning of them and, the most important issue...which one is the "master" code?
The phone I bought supposed to be SIM free but when I got home I realised that the phone was locked on Orange Romania...I asked the buyer to unlock it and he promised to do this...and he did but after a week...I couldn't wait so long so I bought an unlock code for $2...I used the SIM_UNLOCK code, the company sent me the PCKUNLOCK...what is the diffence between these codes? Was it wrong to use SIM_UNLOCK against PCKUNLOCK?
I surfed a lot the internet on these items, I have found what the abreviations mean but I would like to know their purposes...
In the daily use this doesn't affect me but I would like to know if the fact that I unlocked the phone using SIM_UNLOCK will affect the upgrade to kitkat...the software version in my phone is D80210f-226-10...226-10 means Romania - Orange, the network where the phone was locked on.
Thank you.
