Hi,
Firstly, phone details are below. Let me know if you need any more.
Phone: Galaxy S4 I9505
Carrier: EE (Unsure if locked, don't know how to check this?)
Country: UK
Current Recovery: Samsung Stock
Current OS: 4.4.2 KitKat
Baseband: I9505XXUGNI2
I have some questions about flashing TWRP and Lollipop to my Galaxy S4.
If I flash TWRP recovery to my phone, am I able to revert back to Samsung stock recovery? Could you please provide some evidence such as a link to a guide?
Next; I have been having some random rebooting problems since I did a firmware upgrade. (This was only a small update, possibly from the carrier? The android version has not changed).
I was hoping to resolve this by installing Lollipop as I would also like the latest features. When I attempt an update through OTA or Kies, it says my phone is up to date. Would I be able to flash Lollipop to my phone even though I (think) the phone is locked to EE and when I check for updates it says that their are none.
I have included a description of the ROM I intend to flash. It can be found on Sam Mobile but I cant yet post links! Note that it doesn't specifically say it supports EE.
Model GT-I9505
Model name GALAXY S4 LTE
Country United Kingdom
Version Android 5.0.1
Changelist 3996895
Build date Wed, 25 Feb 2015 15:44:46 +0000
Product code BTU
PDA I9505XXUHOB7
CSC I9505BTUHOB4
Also, when I flashed KitKat to the phone, the wifi wouldn't turn on and I had to flash something extra to make it work. Any advice on this if it happens again?
Hope you can help, thanks!

1. You are wrong in one thing. You can find all the info for your device: HERE. Your device didn't update to Lollipop coz you are using the latest firmware. You can follow the next steps for fix the wifi of your device.
2. Backup your internal data to your pc.
3. Download the latest firmware: HERE.
4. Unzip it and flash it via ODIN unticking "autoreboot". Take out the battery when the process finish. Pull in again and boot your device in STOCK RECOVERY -> Wipe data/Factory reset and wipe cache partition then.
5. Reboot normally and, in theory, you have to have wifi. Dial *#1234# and add one screenshot if not.

I am not wrong. As stated, Samsung has provided and deployed Lollipop 5.0.1 across the UK on the Galaxy S4 I9505. EE however, has not sent out the update to their customers. My question is that would I be able to flash the Samsung stock firmware (for unlocked phones) on my EE device without issues?
I do not currently have a WiFi problem. I resolved it a year ago after I flashed 4.4.2 to the phone. I simply can't recall how I solved it and would like some advise in case it happened again.

Hello,
A few days ago i've updated my Galaxy S4 to android 4.3 from android 4.2.2, but Samsung Knoxx blocks Odin from downgrading back to 4.2.2 (using SamMobile rom). When I restore the factory defaults, my S4 directly starts up with android 4.3, so i think it's impossible to get back to android 4.2.2 without rooting.
So I was wondering if it's possible to root my device on android 4.3, get back to android 4.2.2 and unroot again so I can stay on android 4.2.2.
If anyone has other idea to get back at android 4.2.2, please let me know.
Thanks
Raoul
You can't downgrad to 4.2.2, because of the Bootloader, but you can flash 4.2.2 in CWM with zip ROM package, and use 4.3 modem correctly, or you can restore the ROM from your backup before 4.3.
but you can't use the 4.2.2 modem anymore. and if you want to use 4.2.2 modem, you must restore the efs which backuped before 4.3

Could you please explain me how to do this? Are there any risks doing this? I haven't backupped before 4.3.

Hey.
Try downloading Knox Disabler (Google it) it's an app which will disable knox.
Then try flashing the south Africa official firmware (make a backup of efs before!!) There was a thread regarding this. Apparently, its the only fw that allows downgrading.
However your boot loader still would show warranty bit 0x1.
I think 4.2.2 modems are available in this forum, so flash the one available for you country..
Edit - why do you want to go back to 4.2.2?

A few reasons:
1. Knox keeps showing those annoying alerts.
2. The batterytime is about a third from my batterytime at 4.2.2
3. I don't like the changes in the keyboard.
4. My camera does make the shutter sound again when taking a picture.
Thanks

1. You can disable Knox. Like I said, once you use the Knox Disabler App http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482306 , you can disable it. You need to have root access though.
EDIT - I just read your post properly. Do you have root access? Did you update su's binary after gaining root access?
2. Battery with MJ9 (latest FW) is as good as 4.2.2
3. Download the google keyboard (or i'm pretty sure 4.2.2 samsung keyboard must be available as an apk.., look around)
4. idk yeah it does. I just realised it. Lol.
Just letting you know, lot of performance improvements in 4.3. Cam starts almost instantly as opposed to 4.2.2.. etc.
But if you still want to :
Disable KNox first!
Here is an excellent guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491499
Bear in mind, should anything go wrong, flash official 4.3 FW
*****MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR 4.3 EFS NOW*****
Also, your warranty bit will stay 1.
Note that it's only possible to downgrade with an I9500 not with and I9505.
If you want to go back to 4.2.2 with an I9505 you need to flash a custom rom. That's the only way. But, I am not sure if that will work because of the new bootloader. Just try it, if it doesn't work, you can always go back to 4.3.
Hello,
How to flash 4.2.2 in CWM and keep the 4.3 modem?
Thanks!
Did you use ODIN? What Image did you use?
Normally the new 4.3 Bootloader does not allow downgrades and bricks the phone at around 2%
TIP: Using CF-AUTO-ROOT fixed my boot screen issue, by allowing me to clear the data and factory reset the phone. (Recovery Mode)

Hey Yash, perhaps you would know of another issue related to the 4.3 update - my wife just had her S4 updated with the Rom, and since then, the Wifi is getting really problematic. no matter which WiFi the phone connects to, it will prompt a "Sign in Required", and will open the browser for no good reason. after a couple of minutes, it will disconnect from the internet, as it will require to sign in (to nowhere). Any ideas? the Internet doesn´t have an answer as far as I know.

Hmm, that is strange. Wifi works just fine with 4.3 for me. Try doing a factory reset (go to recovery->wipe data/factory reset). Does mobile network and data work fine (coz that would exclude any problems with the modem). Or you can try choosing the correct firmware of 4.3 for your region from sammobile.com and flash it using odin. Or just take it to a Samsung service centre (flash the official firmware in case you're rooted before that) and they should help you out.

So with this method its possible to side load 4.2 image and be on a 4.2 rom? So in a way are you saying it overlooks the bootloader so it makes it possible to go back to older roms?

You will not be able to get the ota or kies updates since your phone is rooted.
The best way to get the latest 4.4 Kitkat firmware is to go to SamMobile.com

No offense but this is the worst kind of people here...people who root their phones without reading every single important thread carefully, ending up messing their phone up and blaming it on their "new-ness", so we gotta spoonfeed them.
Regardless, go to Sammobile and download an N9005 stock ROM for your region. Then use Odin to flash it. Check using that app above to make sure you have an N9005 bootloader (first four characters are N9005) to make sure you have an N9005 or you'll end up with a brick. Or you could go to the flashable modems thread and flash an MJ3 N9005 modem in Odin.

You have to install SuperSU from the Play Store, and grant root permission for this app to work.
Otherwise it will wait for the permission accepting, once your phone has been rooted.

Setting up Odin :
1. Make sure you have installed the Samsung usb drivers for windows.
2. Run Odin as administrator in windows.
Add the TAR/MD5 file in the PDA section/slot in odin.
4. Now that Odin is setup, put the phone in download mode and connect usb cable.
Power off the phone then press 'home+power+volume down' buttons at the same time.
Keep the buttons pressed till Download mode appears.
5. Now that Odin and the phone are setup, connect the usb cable from phone to computer.
Odin will detect the device and show something like [com:4l]
6. Click START in Odin.
7. The flash will take 5 minutes for a full flash on average
8. When the flashing is complete, DO NOT disconnect usb until Odin shows ' PASS '.
9. The phone will reboot. Unplug usb cable from phone and computer then go into
recovery mode and select "factory/data reset".
That's it. Happy flashing ..!!
The SM-9005 4.4.2 Kitkat firmware from sammobile comes with the Odin Windows utility.
Unzip the zip file from Sammobile into a new empty folder in your windows desktop and
you will see the TAR/MD5 firmware file and you will see Odin after unzip is completed.
You will need to create a free account on Sammobile to be able to download
the SM-N9005 Kitkat 4.4.2 official firmware zip file.
Just follow the step by step instructions above.

Hey guys,
I know about the built in custom flash counter, not too concerned but I wanted to update my i9506 to the latest KK releases which are starting to roll out now.
I have installed a custom recovery, rooted the stock ROM and stripped out a lot of the stock apps with Titanium Backup. I tried to OTA but obviously it wouldn't let me because "modified software".
How would I go about returning the phone to a completely stock state; bootloader, recovery, ROM, everything so I can receive OTA's in the future/or flash the latest ROM using software? I don't mind about losing root or any of my customization and probably won't do the custom recoveries in the future (there's not much dev for the i9506 variant). I'm guessing at the very least I'll need to find an entire stock ROM firmware online and flash with Odin or similar?
Can anyone point me to a guide or where to get the stock firmware? Is there a way using the official software (just plug the phone in and let it fix itself) or would it be pretty complicated?
Thanks heaps guys.
I forgot to add; I got the phone from Vodafone in Australia. I'm currently downloading this from sammobile:

To return this phone to stock to install OTA updates? If I installed the French Orange 4.4.2 would the phone work at all (curiosity)?
Thanks again guys.
Anyone? I just want to be sure I don't get stuck in an irreversible boot loop.
Well I took the plunge and followed the instructions, for anyone wondering (or discovering this thread later) here's what happened:
The process completed, the device rebooted and... everything was exactly how it was, seemingly nothing happened, however:
Root was gone
Apps which I had deleted with Titanium were still missing
Going to update in settings didn't give me an error regarding modified software, it just stated there were no updates available.
UPDATE 1: I have now gone through settings and did a "factory reset", the phone is rebooting now.
UPDATE 2: The phone has rebooted and I entered all of my information. All of the bloat is back, and everything appears normal.
UPDATE 3: I booted into recovery (home, power and vol+up) and it came up with the stock recovery, there's no sign of CWM.
It's a pretty straight forward process, now to wait for Vodafone to push the update (or maybe to try another countries when it gets released, hmm)

I realised that someone has been changing "Sprint Note 4" to look like the international version.
so I decide to install the latest stock rom ( downloaded from sammobile)
Now I am so glad because I didn't get any problem.
I don't Know how but a Note 4(n910c) IMEI was restored not an IMEI of n910p according to "Imei.info"
Hotspot and Network unlocked including LTE
Hi, I am having the same problem as you.
Can you please give me the rom that you used? And which odin version did you use?
thanks.
what version is the modem? when the moden is from n910p too then its a n910p spoofed as n910f. that can be done by changing backcover and mount a sim reader and it works like n910f. so you have a n910p mainboard in it with changed imei with jtag box

Do this only if your bootloader is a N910P**** (Use CPU-Z to check it, you can download it from the market)
You must have a least 60%
You should remove your SIM card
I've used the latest rom from this link.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/60440/N910PVPU4COJ6_N910PSPT4COJ6_SPR/
I assume that you've already installed Samsung driver
and that you have the latest version of odin v3.10.7 and that you're familiar on how to use it
but before you proceed you have to :
1- Instal a custom recovery (Twrp)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/tool-utility-twrp-2-8-1-0-teamwin-t2915591
2- boot into TWRP
3-in advanced wipe dalvik cache
4-wipe data/factory reset
5-Format /cache
6-Format /system
7-Format /Data
8-go to advanced and reboot to download mode
9-flash the downloaded rom
wait (10-15min) until your device come to world
Now you have a fresh and clean note 4
10-check your IMEI (*#06#) in http://www.imei.info/
11-restrict data and wifi usage for the following app
Sprint ID
Mobile Installer
Sprint Zone
MyScript Resource Manager
12-Update Your System (settings > System Update > Update Now)
Because this is not the latest build You should upgrade to N910PVPS4COK1 (150mo)
to correct some issue with Google Play Store and other things
13- Update you Play Store and Google Services thru the Store
14- shutdown your device when finished
15-insert your SIM and wake up your Note 4
16-you should root it to profit
(remove unwanted sprint apps it's recommended check the forum to find them out -Use Titanium Backup pro #1 )
enjoy and wait for the Marshmallow =)

Hi.
So how to I get the phone to work? It is in a bootloop when switched on and I cannot go into recovery mode since the phone restarts itself when I try to do so. However I have access to download mode.
Also how do I check the version of the modem?

hello, how do I make sure if my bootloader is a N910P? I cannot download CPU-Z on the phone since the phone is in a bootloop and not switching on.
Before I had the problem, it was written SM-N910F in the about device of the phone. In download mode, it is written N910p and at the back of the phone it is written Sm-N915F.
If you can access the download mode, you simply flash the custom recovery and follow the instructions
you can get it working by flashing n910p rom with odin (download it from sammobile) after that i can say you how to get it again full working with a n910f rom so that you dont have anymore any sprint apps on it

after flashing sprint odin rom install twrp recovery fot it. after that download any rom for n910f and flash it with twrp and then flash a kernel for n910p and it will boot without sprint apks. so you have now n910f rom an no more sprint things

I was about to ask the same thing... for g900F, but I am rooted.
44.2 --> 6.0.1 update of the official samsung firmware.
I am pretty clear on the steps:
- Install TWRP Recovery
- Create a full backup with TWRP - ALL options checked
- Enable USB DEbugging mode from the Developer options
- Charge battery to at least 80%
- Load up the the firmware image in ODIN
- After upgrade, hard reset the phone
My only question is, since I am going from 44.4 to 6.0.1, Do I only need to check in the:
- Auto reboot
- F reset time
- AP
or
I also need to check the Phone Bootloader Update
Can someone confirm?
Thanks

I dont know abt ur version but i will tell u my procedure hopin it will help...
My g900h was not rooted and was on everything stock...

First i wiped my data from the stock recovery and directly went to download mode and flashed the 6.0.1 from odin....
And i didnt showed any problem....
And as homing23 told the odin file contains the copy of entire os, u dont need to worry....
And in odin i only selected auto reboot , F Time Reset And AP...
Hope this will help u....
