I'm currently working on an article about the 7420, and it would be helpful if the community would be able to check their ASV groups to determine what the most common chip bin out there is.
To read out your ASV group, you need a file explorer with root privileges, or by root terminal, and read out the file in /sys/kernel/debug/asv_summary
It will show the ASV group for various blocks, but you should just vote for the most common one among them if they're not all the same.
Thanks!
I have root with root explorer and cannot check the file. Keep getting prompt to make sure I have root privileges which I do.
I have asv 11 on my 64gb black s6. Although this is a replacement device. My first one had only a 3
Bump!
It's interesting to see most people are around ASV10, but I'd like to have more votes to get it conclusive.
ASV12 here on a 64gb black S6.
With root explorer mine is empty. File size is showing 0 bytes.

The higher the group the better for power efficiency. It looks like the median is ASV10.

The asv rating indicates how well SoC will tolerate extremes in voltage & speed. I have found that you don't get miraculous battery life by pushing silicon to its absolute limits. I have asv 5 and routinely get 36+ hours total standby with 4.5+ hrs SOT without OC/UV. Since yours is asv 9, I think you'd be wasting time & effort trying to obtain asv 15. But if you find someone that hates their S6 and will give you deal, then go for it
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just out of curiosity, I 'd like to know what everyone's cpu PVS binning is. This makes little difference unless you're trying to undervolt, but it doesn't hurt to know.
Non-Root How To:
Use a file browser (I used Root Browser) and navigate here:
Code:
/sys/module/clock_krait_8974/parameters/table_name
Open up "table_name" as a text file. Mine read: qcom,speed3-pvs7-bin-v1. My PVS bin # being 7 on a scale of 0-15. 0 needing the most volts, 15 needing the least at corresponding frequencies (I think I got that right). Overly simplified that would be higher binning=better, but again this makes very little difference.
Here's a example of stock volatges at 2.5 GHz for the MSM8974AC Rev 1:
Code:
PVS 0- 2.5GHz @ 1.12V
PVS 7- 2.5GHz @ 1.05V
PVS 15- 2.5GHz @ 0.97V
Here's a thread from the OnePlus One forums that's helpful if you want to know more:
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/info-cpu-binning-concept-overclocking-t2817105/ (Note: Moto X's chipset seems most similar to the MSM8974AC Rev 1 or at least has the same binning)
Thats pretty interesting, never heard of this before.
Mine says 6. Guess mine is using a bit more volts?
Mine says 3. Huh?
5...v1 which according to one plus forums means 2.3ghz?? Sad times v2 is 2.5 apparently
Mine said pvs4, but what does that mean?
Is lower better, or higher?
I googled, but noone else seems to be sure either.

No where did you have this from?
The moto x has the msm8974ac and this one has 2,5GHz... According to cpu-z 2.46GHz (or more exactly 2457.6 MHz says antutu device info page)
Msm8974ab has 2.3GHz.
Yeah, the X uses the AC @ 2.5GHz. I think that's what the speed # means. The version in "table_name" is the PVS version not the CPU version. Not sure what that is though. Maybe the parameters used in sorting?
Mine says 8.
8 here as well... Damn had a 13 on my old moto x lol

What is the PVS bin? It is a known fact that not all semiconductor chips leave the factory equal because of complicated baking process, and for most expensive complex articles like CPU and GPU manufacturers introduced a sorting practice called "binning". Qualcomm also has such scale for their chips, that consist of PVS value range from 1 to 15, to aware Android software how many voltage it should apply to CPU on a certain clock to run error free. The bigger PVS value is, the lesser power required to run CPU stable. So, the story is about energy effectiveness.
Please, share your Droid Turbo PVS bin in a poll.
How to know your bin: use file manager to go to the path /proc/cpu/, and open file msm_acpu_pvs as a text.
PVS bin value is stored as a hexadecimal, so when you see a letter instead of a digit, convert it to decimal like: A=10, B=11, C=12, D=13, E=12, F=15, and vote in the poll above. Thanks! )

Voted. Mines 8.
Does this essentially mean I can undervolt more before the device becomes unstable and reboots, than someone who has a PVS value of let's say 2?

Yes. Probably, your SoC CPU cristal with "8" was in the center of semiconductor wafer, and mine "6" was somewhere closer to the side
The difference in voltage applied not so big, I guess, from 0 to 20mV max in your favor.
As for the "2" CPU, it is tougher, and will be auto driven by higher voltage. Or we set it manually by installing custom kernel with voltage tune support, and try to earn your effectiveness. But then, again, you can start manual control too, tuning voltage down, and Turbo with "2" will suck (

Interesting! Thank you for the explanation! So I guess that's why I'm able to undervolt -70mV without encountering stability issues, where others would get reboots if they did the same.

We are very Very Sorry..
Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain that we will never get the sources required for a proper custom ROM on this device, mainly because it is Mediatek.
Waiting for Redmi Note 4 Pro (Snapdragon)...
They will launch Snapdragon version in India due to patent issues with Erricson. So we might get our hands on the source code just like Note 3.

So it's MediaTek? I have 3 MT devices, none of them have enough space in the user partition. I thought that was the reason why there were slow and unresponsive.
But these look a lot better than what I already have. Can they be rooted, do the standard recoveries show upside-down. CWM is easier to manage that way, but TWRP is difficult.

was it a mistake to buy the Le Max 2 for 175€? ;-;
should have waited haha
I've had mine Max 2 for a month, and now I see this. It's almost the same, I guess it could just be me, but when new iteration is out - I expect improvements in desing, inside and outside.
Le Max 2 being so cheap it had so many corner cuts, like weight, black bezels, fingerprint reader problems, crappy camera and small battery. I don't really see it as saving if you compromise om so many things over the course of two years (normal flagship end-user lifespan/time) just to save about 200-250$, it's about 10$ a month and it won't get you anywhere, but remember how many times you needed just an hour of battery more or you wished those nightshots were better or you want to insta-unlock your phone to writhe her number down but it doesn't recognize your fingerprint... man... I'll be waiting patiently for OP4 or get G6 in summer.

I've ordered the 8/128 version because of the color and because i don't need 256 storage. There is difference in performance between 8gb and 12gb ram variant? how result black version in real life?
I just got mine today(8/128) an hour ago, but unfortunately I'm in work, do can't test it just now.
According to the specs, only the storage and memory capacity is different, nothing else, so there should be no performance difference between the 8/128 and the 12/256 version.
