CF Auto Root has always worked for Lollipop
Rooting lollipop without tripping KNOX is yet to be accomplished
Ah, sorry for the mis-information. CF autoroot does not work on the G900A variant of the GS5, which is what I have.

If the bootloader is not locked, you could flash TWRP from ODIN, then flash SuperSU from TWRP, result being rooted Lollipop

unfortunately for me, AT&T locked the bootloader on this phone. so there is no way for me to root since I mistakenly took the 5.0 OTA update, and you can't ODIN back to 4.2.2 once you have 5.0

Im not sure about flashing stock ROMs when your bootloader is locked, but forgetting about bootloaders, you can flash back to 4.4.2 after upgrading to 5.0, Ive done it myself
I'm just not sure if you can do that with a locked bootloader, whether the ROM being stock and signed by Samsung makes any difference
with the ATT version, the bootloader is locked and encrypted. since the update installed the lollipop bootloader, there is no way to get back to the kitkat bootloader, so I can't downgrade
I remember some people in the same boat taking their phone to their carrier store and they flashed back to KK for them, might be worth trying that

So I'm on 5.0.1 I want to root my device, install a custom recovery so that I can sim unlock the device. Everywhere I read, it's only possible from 4.4.4 and lower. So my question is, how do I downgrade? I know how to get into recovery. I know how to sideload files. I'm all ears right now. Someone show me the way.
Update: I followed this tutorial and everything worked out fine. I am now rooted on 4.4.4
If you have an Galaxy S4 AT&T you have a locked bootloader, that means you cannot install a custom recovery.
You can go from 5.0.1 OC3 to 4.4.3 NB1 using Odin.

Ahhh you have a i337 with LOKI exploit. Im.not sure but if you install a stock system(vía Odin) you will lock your bootloader for ever. Search in the forum.

I rooted my S4 ATT SGH-I337 yesterday with Kingroot while already having Lollipop 5.0.1. I then downloaded Flashify & Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. Restarted my phone to goto recovery and I got a yellow triangle saying this phone has software unauthorized by att.
What Custom Recovery can I use and where can I find the latest version? Will TWRP work and also I've heard of something called Philz?
Oh and does bootloader have anything to do with this because when I rooted my S3 I never even knew or heard of bootloader.
Thanks in Advance

You will not be able to use a custom recovery because your bootloader is locked with no means of unlocking it or downgrading to an unlocked one. You have 2 tools that you can use, currently in lollipop. One is flashfire beta. If you ever purchased mobile Odin, you will be upgraded to the paid version for free. The other is safestrap. Safestrap isn't updated for lollipop but there is a workaround. Since you rooted with Kingroot, I'd suggest getting flashfire beta and then use it to flash the rooted 0C3 zip found in the OP of this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
The reason is that Kingroot seems shady and installs other crapware. Also, if you try to update to 0C4, it will fail with the Kingroot rooted lollipop. It won't with Muniz' method. Well, at least I know it won't with the stock rooted one. I'm still unsure if the deodexed one will cause the update to fail.
Snapping along on stock rooted 0C4 I337, wishing for some good up to date lollipop ROM's to throw into flashfire
I have Flashfire Pro and SuperSU

My question is what is 0C3? and what is 0C4?
I have the paid version of Flashfire beta
The reason I want a custom recovery is so i can make a backup of my phone and then flash a rom preferably Cyanogen Mod if they have it yet. I hate this touchwiz. But I wanna make a backup like i was able to wish Clockwork mod. Is FlashFire capable of making a complete backup? I see the Backup option but have no clue which to choose and or what it is backing up??????

OC3 is the original Lollipop distribution for the AT&T I337. OC4 is the patch update which is assumed to have corrected the stagefright bug.
I don't have the phone, so I don't use flashfire, but I understand that you can do most everything with it that you can do with CWM or TWRP.
The bootloader is locked, and you will not be able to install a custom recovery. You will also not be able to install a custom kernel, so no AOSP based roms can be installed either. You're stuck with Touchwiz based roms. Period.

No it won't. Only safestrap will work with the nc1 work around. Flashfire is great until you want to flash a rom with an aroma installer, then safestrap is the only option.

Hey, I have updated to Lollipop using Muniz's method back in April. You said that the udate should work with Muniz's installation. It is not working for me. Are you aware of this? I too have a locked bootloader, and am stuck with the Safestrap like many others.
Thanks,

Have you changed anything since the update? If you've unistalled or frozen any apps, or made any other change to the rom, the update will fail. It does work with the deodexed version of the rom also, that's what I updated with.

I had lolipop 5.0.1 SM-G900F yesterday and I can tell you that I succeed on downgrade. I now have 4.4.2 but there is one problem, Towelroot don't work anymore so if you want to downgrade your software you can do it by downloading it from sammobile. If you want root it without knox you probably don't find any solution, if you want to mind hit knox you can use chain-fire. I could not find anything that will root it without hiting knox.

If you are on 5.1.1 you cannot downgrade, downgrade was possible on 5.0.x

Joe is your phone rooted? I have the same exact same phone and have successfully rolled it back. If not rooted, here are some links to help you out and then you can flash whatever rom you like. If you are on OG6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fog6-5-1-1-t3178077 or if you are on OF6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fof6-5-1-1-t3158005 After getting root, flash a custom recovery like Philz Touch or TWRP and flash whatever rom you're looking for. You can't root g900a on Lollipop as of right now. AT&T locked the bootloader when they released 5.0 BUT.. you can downgrade your phone to KitKat. Then root it using Towelroot root and then flash a prerooted lollipop rom using flashfire Here is a link with a bunch of people that downgraded there g900a to KitKat and how they did it and worked around everything: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/489071-tutorial-downgrade-samsung-galaxy-s5-5-0-4-4-kitkat-6.html This will help you out in starting the root process on your phone. This is not true. If you are running completely stock lollipop either becuase you purchased the phone with it on it, or you took the ota it is not possible to downgrade to KitKat, you will brick your phone. If you were rooted on KitKat, you can update to a prwrooted lollipop, which I am running now for example, and using that method allows you to downgrade as well with no issues so long as you don't take the ota. This only applies to the g900a.

Also not true.. You can downgrade your phone from 5.0 to KitKat DEPENDING on the version of bootloader. That will make or break the whole possibility of downgrading. Check the link I posted and read through the forum. It has been done by multiple people but the general consensus is if your phone's bootloader is past a certain version you're screwed for now and if you can't downgrade and root but you want to in the future I would suggest not updating for a while until there is a method of rooting your current version bootloader.

To be quite honest dwade. You can save yourself a lot of headaches and stress by putting your phone on craigslist and getting yourself the g900f unlocked that way you can avoid all of these processes and the risk of bricking your phone lol If you're looking to root and get into modding your phone, AT&T & Verizon phones are the worst when it comes to locking things down.

It's certainly the case for the F variant that towelroot only works on 4.4.2 that was compiled before the end of June 2014......If there is a build that matches these conditions for the A variant, towelrooting may be possible.....If not, I guess you'll have to try CF Root or similar...
