Which version of twrp do I choose? 4.3 or 4.4?
"Use the 4.3 version of TWRP if you have never upgraded kitkat bootloader. Otherwise make sure you use the 4.4 version. These versions of TWRP have different DTBs and will fail to boot if you do not match your bootloader."
How do I match my bootloader.

TWRP 4.3 or 4.4? Where are you getting it? The latest version is 2.8.7 as far as I can see!
If you are flashing through desktop Odin then use this, https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar.html
If you are going to flash from another recovery, then this, https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.zip.html

Hello!
I got some questions regarding updating to lollipop.
Im running G900F stock android 4.4.2 with root (knox 0x0) right now (Build ANE2) and Im planning to upgrade using http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/official-lollipop-5-0-sm-g900f-t2962141 guide.
My questions are:
1. Do I need to unroot first?
2. Can I install "Poland" version if I dont live there? Will it affect anything?
3. If I update this way, will it affect my apps?
4. can I recieve OTA updates afterwards (when they come out)?

No you don't need to unroot
Yes you can install Poland version it is safe
If you flash through odin it won't wipe anything
Yes you will receive OTA but only from Poland, but you can when it will be avabivable again flash lolipop for your country

Backup everything.
Flash just the firmware with ODIN. (Untick Auto reboot)
Boot in recovery.
Wipe Data/ Cache
Boot.
PD: If you want to upgrade later to a rooted version of L with knox 0x0, you need to make sure you downgrade to a 4.4 firmware supported by towelroot... (Like ANE2)...

First you need to downgrade to a 4.4.2 firmware supported by towelroot (Like ANE2)
In order to do this, you just need to flash the firmware through PC ODIN, no extra files. Just be sure to make a WIPE DATA/CACHE in recovery before booting after flash. (Disable auto-reboot option in ODIN)
Then root with towelroot (won't trip knox).
Then download the last version of MOBILE ODIN PRO.
When you're done with this, ask me for further steps I'll answer you in a sec, I just don't have time to write full instructions now sorry.

What firmware do you want to end up on? Lollipop or kitkat?
Flash the NCG file using odin. Root with towel root. Download supersu from playstore. Update it's binaries, then reboot your phone. Install busy box from playstore. Open it and install it. I would install safestrap. You are officially rooted and have a custom recovery. You will be on 4.4.2. You can now boot into recovery and install a custom rom. If it is something other than 4.4.2 you will boot into download mode through safestrap and in odin, flash the correct kernel for that rom (follow the roms op instructions.). You could also use flash fire instead of odin.

I apologize that I did not answer. I don't want to end up on neither of those firmwares. So which firmware? 4.4.2=Jelly Bean.
You can be on 4.4.2, 4.4.4, or 5.0
But is it possible to revert back to old Jelly Bean? 4.3 and up has KNOX where as Jelly Bean and earlier did not have KNOX.

unfortunately for me, AT&T locked the bootloader on this phone. so there is no way for me to root since I mistakenly took the 5.0 OTA update, and you can't ODIN back to 4.2.2 once you have 5.0

Im not sure about flashing stock ROMs when your bootloader is locked, but forgetting about bootloaders, you can flash back to 4.4.2 after upgrading to 5.0, Ive done it myself
I'm just not sure if you can do that with a locked bootloader, whether the ROM being stock and signed by Samsung makes any difference
with the ATT version, the bootloader is locked and encrypted. since the update installed the lollipop bootloader, there is no way to get back to the kitkat bootloader, so I can't downgrade
I remember some people in the same boat taking their phone to their carrier store and they flashed back to KK for them, might be worth trying that
Hey guys i just bought this international exynos note 3 (N900) and i have some questions about it ;
1. I want to install all the roms kernels and mods i could find but in order to do that (I'm %100 stock btw) ,do i need to first unlock the device ( i dont know how i couldnt find it), then root it with CF- Auto root( my warranty is over so i dont need to think about KNOX i think??) Then use the dd method to flash a recovery and flash whatever i want. Am i right about the things i said on all above ? Is there an easier way to do it ?
2. Do KNOX ever prevents me from flashing things in ODIN if something gets triggered ?
3. If i am not right about the first question starting from %100 stock what do i need to do to get this baby rockin ? I'm thinking about flashing a stock lollipop rom with a custom kernel and root ofc. Any suggestions ?
4. Do we need to flash modems from odin ? Because when reading the AryaMods thread i saw something about updating the modem. I'm on 4.4.2 right now. Can we flash modems or even kernels from recovery ?
Thanks already!!

If you are going to flash roms based on lollipop, update your phone to latest stock rom for your model using odin so you get latest bootloader.
Dude, you need root access to access system and write to it. Don't custom roms require root, if you take a look? (don't answer to this [emoji61] )
If you want that way, flash twrp with ? odin. Then flash supersu for your model using twrp. That way too you get root. Then flash roms after (read rom instructions).
Ask if all wondering. ?

No my question was; not rooting the device in the first place before flashing the recovery and the rom. The roms already comes with the root in it. So just to be clear first upgrade the base to lollipop from odin then flash a recovery and lastly flash a lollipop rom. Would this be your sequence when you just bought a new note 3 ?

Flash latest firmware then custom recovery then flash the custom rom of your choice. No need to root after flash official firmware but it's good to root first as you may want to backup efs before you start messing the phone. I backed up the efs for the past 1.5years but so far never need it.

Ok. Thank you !
After rooting my Note 3 (not branded or simlocked) many moons ago with Towelroot, I've come to the point of wanting to update things a tad. I never installed a custom recovery so it's just a root.
However, looking through the multiple threads here and not wishing to make a bad mistake I'm a little confused and could do with some clear pointers.
I am currently on 4.3 Jellybean BL: N900XXUBMJ3 so most threads deal with later versions and I really want to know what the best path is to now being able to start trying out custom roms such as the DarkWolf ROM or just get this to Lollipop. Obviously now Knox 1x0 is no longer a problem as it's out of warranty.
I assume that the step should really be to install a custom recovery and for that there is a confusion of whether I can do that directly on my current bootloader or do I have install 4.4.2 as some threads suggest?
Probably due to my misunderstanding I am not sure if a 4.4 bootloader is separate from the firmware. If it comes to having to update the bootloader do I have to completely upgrade to Kitkat or can I just update the bootloader only?

You can flash custom recovery for 4.3 but all 5.1.1 and 6.0 roms require 5.0 bootloader to make the camera to work correctly.
Flash 4.3 custom recovery. Then flash the rom of your choice. Then flash 5.0 bootloader. After that flash 4.4.2/5.0 recovery.
Or flash 5.0 firmware. Flash 4.4.2/5.0 custom recovery. Flash the rom of your choice.

Or flash 5.0 firmware. Flash 4.4.2/5.0 custom recovery. Flash the rom of your choice.

Thanks for that Rosli,
I actually found that OTA was working still so I let it update. This went through a lot of updates one by one till it got to the latest 4.3. All this left root intact. Then it downloaded the kitkat but that failed. I had figured that if I let it update to Lollipop I could then root it with CF Autoroot but as it's not going any further (probably due to the fact that I'm rooted .. maybe), I will have to manually update via Odin.
I would probably in that case prefer your advice of flashing 5.0 directly then custom recovery, however, do I have to CF autoroot or can I flash recovery without root and then root after that?

Can flash custom recovery then root. But if you're going to flash custom rom no need to root after custom recovery.
