I updated this sm-g900v to lollipop using the file G900VVRU1BOA8_G900VVZW1BOA8_G900VVRU1BOA8_HOME.tar and odin 3. everything said it was successful, but when it reboots it sits at the verizon screen. tried twice now, md5 hashes match, waited 30 minutes, but no dice. What can i do?

Thank you. I did that, pulled the battery and turned it back on. Let it run all night. Woke up this morning and it's still on the Verizon screen.

Did you try just flashing the firmware?
https://mega.co.nz/#!ZZhxVboC!DiZUPhqeDp2syfJE8QHYsHEVKCE0O8_uvOV35jLfl-M
Also, the op of the tar file you downloaded and flashed said that if you bootloop after flashing you should enter maintenance mode ( don't pull battery) just how you enter download mode but your phone is turned on. It will take several seconds but hold the buttons until your screen goes black, then let go. Once in maintenance mode, clear cache and factory reset.
I did the maintenance like you said. All that did was write a script, rebooted back into recovery and wiped cache and data. 30 minutes later it's still on the Verizon screen.
Do I flash that file you linked to in Odin? What is it, it's way too small to be a rom.

Did you do the maintenance mode reset after re-flashing the tar file again?
The file I sent is firmware only. Not a ROM. Are you rooted or were you just trying to get to OA8?
You might have to start over from NGC.

There are two, OA8 and OC4 with OC4 being the most current. I believe you should be able to just flash the firmware you want via Odin. Or you could hook up to kies and try to update that way.
The firmware tars are here (do full firmware, not just kernel).

Was testing kn0x0ut on our device when I ended up flashing an empty system image. I was on MK2 and attempted to use the MJ6-MJ9 method of flashing just enough files to pass the OTA checks. They didn't flash, and now it says my PIT is broken. I have recovery, and the data partition is in place as on a normal boot it loads to black screen with a blue LED. I can use adb, but there is no root so I can't restore my system. Any suggestions? I'm busy today so I won't be able to reply much, but I can gladly give more information.
EDIT: The system apparently isn't empty. The partition got flashed at some point and appears to have MF3 files.
However, there is still no root and it boots up to nothing but a black screen with blue LED still. I can't get the small update from cache that the MJ6-MJ9 thread mentions. Also, attempting a recovery boot results in the Secure Fail: Kernel screen. Recovery is fixed with the MJ6 recovery file.
FIXED: I was able to get it working following the instructions again. Not sure what the exact issue was with the first time i tried, but flashing the MJ6 recovery makes recovery boot again. I had to flash the two emergency tars, flash the recovery tar again, and then boot into recovery. It then applied the update from cache and on next reboot i went back in and used the sideload.
Have you tried ADB sideloading the update through the recovery?

Hey there, I Gorked my i337 at&t version on Thanksgiving day! I was able to go to this thread and just used Odin to flash the two .tar files and then was able to sideload the mk2 update. Boom phone was back to 4.3

That's what i've been trying to no avail. The first small update from cache never happened and now it's broken even more.
EDIT: Recovery is booting after flashing the MJ6 recovery, surprisingly. Will attempt instructions one more time and report back.
I beleive i just said screw it since I knew I was boned! I then just flashed recovery-mj6.tar.md5 not even sure if it worked. Then flashed the mf3-emergency-part-1.tar.md5 then the mf3-emergency-part-2.tar.md5 and finally I beleive I tried the side load of my mk2 full update file and it worked.

Hi I'm wondering if you can help me- I tried to follow az_biker's instructions about rooting installing recovery and flashing ROMs. I'm on NC4, rooted with towelroot, installed busybox, safestrap 3.75, root checker and Chainfire's SuperSu. I was unable to flash or install baja rom. Then in step 8- and in Odin, downloading to target- getting the phone recognized in the hilighted 'ID-COM' and one line in the messages 'ADDED!'. When hitting 'AD' to find the MJE tar file, it was nowhere to be founnd. I even put the file on my desktop but for some reason Odin just dosent see it. I did finally install the Baja 4th of July version since this was a prior step and downloaded it which could only be found in the downloads. In Safestrap I found the zip file and did another wipe, hit back, advanced, wiped all but sd card then installed it. In the process it did say 'can't find MD5 file and continued and did finish- 'installed successfully'. When trying to reboot system, the phone goes dead. The only thing I can do at this point is remove the battery and boot into recovery but system will not boot. I'd gladly send a donation to anyone that could shed some light this and tell me what to do, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Were you on NC4 initially and rooted it or were you on MJE and upgraded to NC4? Are you unzipping the file before you try looking for it with Odin and are you using the AP section in Odin? Have you tried booting into the stock recovery and doing a factory reset?

Hi thanks for posting- I bought the phone and within 2 weeks the OTA for kitkat came out so I took it. The baseband is NC4 now and I dont know what it was before kk upgrade. Yes using the AP button in Odin. The title of the MJE tar file is this:
ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
This file does not seem to be zipped up and it has a blank piece of paper for an icon. .
I now see where the md5 came from. I cannot do anything but remove battery and put back in then it only boots into safestrap. Another mistake I made was not making a backup of the stock rom. Any suggestions?

You can't use the MJE tar file since you took the OTA, you would need the NC4 full tar file. You should be able to boot into download mode from SS or by turning the device off and holding down Home, then Volume down, then Power. You can try doing a factory reset in the stock recovery by holding down Home, Volume up and Power.

Ok, I downloaded 7zip and am extracting that file. it finished and I had hit vol dwn, power and menu button and when the first screen came up, I hit vol up and am currently in download mode 'Downloading... Do not turn off target'. After the file was extracted into the same name with a manilla file folder icon which was now then recognized by Odin in the AP an advanced on its own and is currently at this state- (screenshot) I attached- let me know if you can see it?

Once you boot into the stock NC4 ROM root it with TowelRoot, install SU, BusyBox and SS 3.75. Boot into SS and install BAJA ROM then before rebooting go into download mode through SS and flash the file in the link below.

You don't need to redownload it. You should wipe everything but the Micro SDcard whenever you install a new ROM. You won't have the errors once you wipe everything and install the ROM again.

i wiped and flashed in the stock slot. and now im stuck in the bootloop problem. it says recovery booting in the upper left of the screen and just keeps rebooting. I tried going in to odin and reloading the "n900v kk firmware" and nothing. anyone know a fix for this. is there something I can download to flash to fix this. Hi I'm kinda new to the community and Android, but I'll try to help. I've been having issues trying to use safestrap to install my custom roms. I know that 3.72 had issues with the extra slots. That was supposed to be fixed in 3.75. In short I haven't reached a loop but have had to flash to stock several times with Odin. I had to remove my battery to get the phone in "power off" mode. From there, I booted to download for odin (assuming you can get it to boot to download-volume down/home/power buttons to get there).
Once I got there, I just made sure I had the firmware version I wanted to go back to, plugged it into odin and bam! Back to stock to start over.

You're running the same build I have, been having similar issues. I used Odin no completely repartition and wipe the phone. I used N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_N900VVRUCNC4_HOME.tar.md5 and the HLTE.pit file (for this build). In Odin You put the pit and md5 files in (.pit file in the PIT slot and md5 in the AP slot on Odin 3.09) This took me back to the KK NC4 build, granted, I lost alot of data but I didn't use a Nandroid backup either. This got me back to a functional device but i'm still having issues getting ANY custom roms to work. I did flash to NC2 kernel since then and still no luck. Let me know if that helps. I can get the files I used if you can't find them, but most everything came from xda.
PS. you can find some firmwares with recovery and other things added. I avoided these just to make sure I could get back to stock. I use Towelroot, BusyBox, SuperSU, and Safestrap 3.75 b04

i done a search on the stock firmware you mentioned and after about 2 dozen websites and and trying about 15 flashes I finally got it to work. this has been one heck of a day. I finally got it to work. I am in the process of trying to get safestrap and stuff on it now. I already used towelroot to rot it. what version of safestrap do you recommend. I was told 3.72 was for KK. and 3.75 was for the Samsung galaxy S5.

This is not true. You can restore back to whatever version you want. If you get stuck in a bootloop just hold down the home, volume down and power buttons for about 10 seconds and the phone will boot in to a maintenance menu. From there select factory data reset with the volume down key and then press the home button to execute the option. It should boot normally after that. To avoid this just enter the stock recovery after flashing the tar in Odin and factory data reset from there.
I think I know what you did

After I updated my Verizon Galaxy S5 to Lollipop, I tried to flash a lower version official .tar through Odin, and got stuck in a bootloop I can still flash .tars through Odin, but I cannot actually use my phone. How do I get my phone working again? Can I?

If you downgraded the kernal it won't let you so you have to go back to a lower verison of android or flash the lollipop kernel
So my beloved note 4 is very poorly and I'm unsure of how to fix her
Phone turns on and boots, sometimes takes longer than others, and I can get to Download mode and recovery.... So maybe there's hope?
It's back on stock kit kat..... Here are it's issues.
Random freezes and reboots,
Sometimes the imei is unknown, pulling sim and rebooting and dialling *#06# brings it back temporarily.
This all happened very suddenly after a MM OTA update but maybe just a coincidence.
What I've tried so far, flashed stock KK with odin and wiped in recovery, none helped.
I've downloaded the n910f 4 file repair firmware that was kindly posted in another thread, but I've read conflicting advice about ticking the repartition option in odin.... Some said do it and someone else said this would wipe my imei... Which would be obviously bad.
Has anyone had similar issues to me and found a solution? I'd be eternally grateful for any help, I love this phone and want to save it. Please help.
Kind regards steve.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried that already but the flash failed in odin, KK will flash. I thought this strange but after I reset the phone when the issues first started it went from MM back to its original firmware KK. Now only KK will flash successfully.
I'm open to all solutions.

grab 4 files lollipop repair firmware with pit file from www.tsar3000.com.
Flash in odin.
Once complete do factory reset.
Now go ahead and flash MM firmware with pit file that you get from repair firmware.
Again factory reset.
Done.

In odin options dont tick on "erase imei"
Just tick on re partition , nand erase all & auto reboot.
Make sure do factory reset & wipe cache from stock recovery after flash.

Firstly I'd like to thank you for your time and help.
Thought I'd share what happened. I flashed the 4 files and pit file and it failed right at the end, tried 2 different odin versions with same results. This left me without recovery and the triangle of death saying please connect to kies.
I could still get into download mode so I flashed just the ap file from the recovery firmware, It passed but the boot took 20 minutes and at that point I pulled the battery and got Into recovery and after 2 minutes or so the blue line went by itself and it rebooted to lollipop 5.0.1
I can make phone calls and install apps, it's just a little laggy but may improve after it settles down.
Do you think I should quit while ahead? Flash MM In odin or let the phone OTA update?
Thanks again and any further thoughts appreciated.
Cheers

Did you wip cache & factory reset after flash ?
Yes you can flash mm with pit file but must do factory reset after every flash to get clean operating system and avoid bootloops.
I suggest flash in odin mm instead of ota to avoid any issues.
Once your phone boot do not touch just let it rest for atleast 10 minutes to settle down.
