Hi,
My old phone was an Galaxy S (i9000) and now I have bougth the Galaxy S 5.
The i 9000 was rooted and I have backedup all Apps + Data to the SD card.
The S5 is new and I dont want to losst the warranty if I Root the phone, so I was wondering if it is possible to Restore all Apps data from the old phone to the new one without root.
Is it possible to do it without a PC?

Titanium Backup should be able to do it, not sure if it needs root though
But also not sure it's a good idea to restore data from a different model phone, which is likely running a different version of Android
You could turn on Google Backup on the old phone, and log into the same G Account on the new S5, and it might restore some things for you that way

The data I was talking about is from games and apps (some games, whatsapp, notes, etc.).
I was not talking about system data.

neither was he. hes alerting you to a possible conflict with the data from the galaxy s backups as they were on a different version of android

That means that there is no way to restore some game data?

Copy the titanium backup folder from your old phone to your new phone. Install TiBu and restore apps&data.
I'd do this by:
1 connect old phone to PC via USB
2 copy Titanium Backup folder from old phone to PC
3 connect new phone to PC and copy Titanium Backup folder to same place on the new phone
4 install Titanium Backup on the new phone
5 restore apps&data
OR
1 in TiBu backup apks and data to SD card
2 put SD card in new phone
3 fire up TiBu and restore backup

If you live in EU you can root and keep your warranty.

Hey guys, I'm trying to root my Desire HD with AAHK.
The problem is, it says that I'll need to downgrade and downgrading will wipe my data.
Now I don't have a problem with downgrading, but I'd like to keep my data.
So I was wondering WHAT data will it wipe and how do I back-up?
I have titanium back-up installed but it needs root access, so that won't work.
I've copied all the files on my SD card to my laptop, to keep my images and stuff...
Is there a way to back-up other important files (if there are any?) before rooting?

Consider purchasing Titanium Backup. It just started letting you backup app data WITHOUT root using ADB. See: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-adb-backups-without-root-other-improvements/. It will also very much come in handy once you are rooted.

Ooh, good to know. I hadn't tried it; I just saw the bit about ADB backup.
Files and documents are stored on your SD, just copy that out.
What you do lose are all your apps, app data, accounts, desktop layout, etc. If you use a custom launcher (go, adw), then chances are the app supports backup. It's like having a factory reset, or like when you first got your phone. Nothing on it. the SD card isn't effected though. There's a small chance rooting will corrupt your SD card. You can always format it to make it working again, but you loose all your data.
I use a program called Android Commander. Allowing inter alia copies of APK's. So, I have created a folder on my SD with programs and then use a clean reinstall of the rom, added applications. So just lose data and accounts.
App manager pro, download it from play store, and backup all your app's

Try to use MyBackup Pro or Safe Backup. But anyway, you should know, data loss while rooting is inevitably. For example, your settings for email accounts, desktop layout and other data, stored inside system memory will be lost. Using semi-backup application (without root) will save for you all important information (SMS, Calls log, Contacts and Applications). I think there's no problem with downgrading and losing system data. After rooting process and installing a custom rom you will be able to restore your settings by manual assignment - this is very easy

Helium says it's incompatible with my old phone.

If they are Play store apps, they will install when you boot the Note 3.
The data from them however won't be transferred.
The best way (keeping the data) would be to Titanium Backup the apps on an external SD or Dropbox, the install them on N3, but obviously you'd have to root.
If it's the functionality of the apps and the data isn't important then go ahead.

What I'm mainly interested in is restoring the apk/data of apps that are no longer available from the play store.
Backing them up is easy, since the old phone is rooted, but AFAIK, they can't be restored on an unrooted phone?

Do a full backup in Titanium Backup "just in case". Then do another one with Helium:

(in my experience the program is vastly inferior to Titanium Backup and YMMV but in theory it works on non-rooted devices).

The first thing you'd be asked once you launch TB is to grant supersu access. So not possible without root

They may be available in Aptoid.
Try it on your HTC prior to the note.
Won't keep your data - I use it for older versions of apps or ones that have been removed.
Why can't you install the app, this may be a problem if KK is incompatible, copy the data to a PC then transfer to either sd card or internal memory overwriting the base data from the install?
Might take a while but it should work...

When i make a titanium backup i can't see the folder of the backup on PC, i managed it once with adb but don't remember exactly how and would love it a little easier

I can't perform a Whatsapp backup since January this year, regardless if Google Drive Backup is checked, if the Whatsapp app is stored in the local or on sd card memory, automatic backups are being cancelled, too.
After I hit "Backup", the Dialogue "Messages are being backed up" shows up, which closes after 10 sec without any error message.
I tried to contact the WA Support, but they insist that my S4 is rooted (which it isn't, maybe because of the custom ROM I use).
I have flashed my Samsung I9505 in January this year from CM 12.1 to CM 13. At the beginning, the phone ran smoothless except BT. After a while, WiFi stopped working as well. I tried to flash the CM 12.1 backup and radios without any success, just a new mainboard helped. I installed my CM 12.1 backup from January via TWRP from my old mainboard, which ran without any errors on it (after a fullwipe on the new one).
The phone works great, except the WA backup.
WA gets always updated to the current version, I have ~1,2 GB free internal memory, I tried to update to the latest CM 12.1 5.1.1 version from 12/26/2015, perform a backup via 4G, 3G, Wifi, with an without Google Backup checked, cleared the cache and wiped Dalvic Cache, there is no app deactivated.
I use Baseband I9505XXUHOD7 and Kernel: 3.4.107-cyanogenmod-gab9afd6clyde.
Running a custom ROM means you are rooted.
Now, I don't know why whatsapp wouldn't work on a rooted ROM, but if you want to backup you can use titanium backup.

There is no root, please check the screenshot below.
Since there is no root, I can't use Titanium Backup, however, it wouldn't be the most practicable way to backup your Whatsapp history every time with Titanium Backup.
Besides that, I don't think this would work if I would like to transfer my history to a new phone on which WA Backup should work as intended as I won't flash the ROM/install root and void the warranty.
WA backup worked perfect with the old logicboard before flashing CM 13.

Root has to be activated from developer options.
That is definitely a whatsapp problem if it worked before.

Any idea how to convince WA doing it's job? Anybody with this problem before?
if you really want a backup it makes more sense that you either activate root or flash superSU yourself rather than wait on whatsapp to change their code just for you. they've already told you effectively that they aren't going to do anything for you and don't have to.
backing up the app and data with TiBu and copying the whatsapp folder achieves everything you want and has worked flawlessly for me many many times.
Well guys, got a new phone but the problem persists when trying to restore my history on the new phone and really need your help.
Got root on the old phone and saved the com.whatsapp folder of it with the key file and databases. How can I encrypt the msgstore.db to msgstore.db.crypt8?
I have tried the app Whatcrypt, which creates a msgstore.db.crypt file, as large as msgstore.db, but Whatsapp on the new phone does not recognize it as a backup file.
When using whatcrypt.com and uploading the key and msgstore.db, it tells me "Encryption failed / Incorrect account?"
Also tried Omni-Crypt app. It creates msgstore.crypt, which Whatsapp ignores as well ("searching for Backups" with waiting triangle for hours)
I don't know any other way and I'm literally stuck now

Of course I can copy the Whatsapp folder on the root of the storage but this folder only contains the wa media files of my old phone since there are no msgstore.db.cryptX files created by Whatsapp.
For TiBa I would need to root the new phone which is a S7 Edge and I would like to avoid this until the warranty has expired. It is not as easy to do repairs by yourself as the S4..
fair enough, have you tried copying both folders over and installing from playstore ? or rather, install the app but don't open it, copy over both folders and then try and see what happens...
So doing fresh installs of roms is hard work (you get the idea).
What is your way to restore the apps you use and love to get back as soon as your phone is fresh? What method do you use? Is there an/several apps or piece of software that you prefer? What do you think is the most effective solution?
Titanium backup works pretty well as long as you don't touch system apps.
Since the first release of Titanium Backup I only use that app. With pro version the restore of hundred apps is really quick. The only thing is a problem restoring account settings in nougat builds, which didn't work properly... But that's OK for all of time Titanium Backup saves to you

I know that titanium backup is very popular, but there might be something else out there, someone who has used titanium backup and figured out a better paradigm. A app name does not complete the story of a great restoring practice!
It's a start with two votes for the Titanium backup. But where do you store your data, because that is also not really clear. If you are paying I guess that you would use a web service, which one is the best? Or do you relay on your computer because it might be faster file transfers through USB then a web service? Because once the backup is done and it is time to wipe, nothing will be salvaged? Or do you go for the USB as android system mounted extend or as a separate sd-card disk? Here are lots of pro and cons.
I am probably being a little anal but I kept my Titanium backups on my SD card, Google Drive, and Dropbox. I really could tell no difference between Google and Dropbox as far as cloud storage goes. I played around with Hellium but I always liked the extras I used in TB like freezing/defrosting apps, SMS backups, converting user apps to system apps and on and on. It is a full featured app.

I've not used any alternatives after I started with titanium so can't help you there.
For storing in case of flashing roms I just keep in the SD card cause that hasn't failed yet.
Only when I'm going from custom to stock or vice versa do I update my google drive backup. I use google drive because its faster for me than anything else no other reason.
USB backup to PC or a separate SD card might be required for only when you wipe storage (internal and SD) which I can't imagine when. But backup sometimes when you have connected the phone to your PC for any other reason. Otherwise I don't really do that much as it is too much of a bother.
OK I'm convinced. Could you tell me more about how you use titanium backup. What is your setups after all these years?
Do you make your own flashable collections?
(I purchased the pro Ti and connected Dropbox)

How to use titanium backup? Mate, there are tutorials out there and the help page, a little reading and trying and that's it. It's not difficult and there is no "setup" you need

I have set it up and already know how to use it (been using it for years). I'm asking about how you use it and not how I should. Get it?
It is considerably more interesting to discuss "user cases". No manual or guide will ever give that because the approach to the question is different.
Not sure if anyone uses it still but I use Nandroid Manager for most of my restores but its hit or miss on working right since 6.0. Titanium just never seemed to work right for me. I almost got to the point of just letting Google restore my phone for me and just relogin to apps. Best to save everything to the cloud in my opinion then there's no worries. Lol
