Verizon LG G Pad x8.3 VK815 Specs and Benchmarks
VK815 UI
Hi,
Any improvements to screen tech? i guess what I am interested in is the screen on time for this tablet. Many other tablets are close approaching 6h+.
My Old v500 has about 4h max (though great standby time), with the screen being the biggest consumer of battery. Also i thought Snapdragon 615 was using big.LITTLE ? Why in the screenshot are all 8 on at the same time?
The pricing seems reasonable for this $400 US and hopefully the discounts that were done to the orginal Gpad will be done towards the end of the year so i can pick one up , though i could care less about 4G/telephony.
Awesome. I was wondering what the CPU specs were on this tablet. I was thinking of picking up the G4 and grabbing this as a work tablet for its 4G.

just picked one up for $49 bucks when i got the wife the new G4. has anyone rooted or know of a way to root the x8.3?
havent even turned it on yet, got it on charge right now
I dunno. I have been following the root for the LG G4. The method is the same across all LG devices running lollipop. You connect via USB com port while in download mode and push su and a script file.
Unfortunately on the G4 they block system modify privileges so the exploit is patched. You can try it on the x8.3. I know the international g4 allows unlocking the bootloader. Maybe get lucky

i was able to get the 1-click toolkit from the G3 forum and it worked great on the first try. maybe the X8.3 will get its own section soon

Sweet, glad to know root works. Can't wait to see if CM gets ported over. $129 for a two year isn't bad at all
Anyone know if the X8.3 is the same size as the 8.3?
I am having a hard time finding cases. I have the Incipio folio, but it adds too much weight and bulk.
Edit
I guess they would be compatible:
LG 8.3 (1st gen)
216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3 mm
LG X8.3
216.7 x 126.5 x 8.6 mm
.3mm difference is unlikely to cause any problems.
I did JUST realize it has a built in stylus by researching cases. Also the speakers and camera are in different locations.
Only one I found that is decent:

cases are slim pickens right now, i have searched and searched with no luck on anything good. i am in the process of making a custom fiberglass holder for my jeep wrangler to use as a media device.
you probably already know this but there is a full size usb port on the top that mounts great without any other app.

Look on Verizon website, they'll have cases. If for nothing else you can see if the 2 tablets use same case. FYI I have first 8.3 and nobody has cases. Ordered of vzw website (fairly priced).
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Well thats what I posted before. Here is the Accessory thread on it I made.
They are the exact same size. Regular cases WILL work. The only difference is the speaker cutouts are on the opposite side, the camera is kinda squarer, and the opening for the stylus. If one was creative, they could probably dremel out the needed holes. The fit will be perfect though.

I purchased the Incipio Folio case. It was freakin' $35, thick and heavy, and lacks a magnetic smart cover. I know the X8.3 is able to use the smart covers, I've tested it with a magnet.

Hey guys, when I first saw the Verizon edition of our gorgeous phone I nearly cried! Those large tactile and innovative buttons had been replaced with tiny indistinguishable ones, not only that but they also increased the heft it to the point where we now have to have cases specifically designed for the Verizon variant, all this just so Verizon could be "Different" and "Exclusive" Anyway down to my question. Do you guys think theres anyway to retrofit out Verizon phones so that physically, they are the same as the other variants? Rip out the QI charging bits, buttons and case. Then replace with the AT&T Buttons, case ect?

I would think that you would also need the back inside shell as well because the camera bezel itself is also different. Why do you want change it? Everyone else seems to want the wireless charging.

From what I can tell the bezzel around the camera is attached to the same piece as the rear keys. So if I could fine the piece used for att id be set. As to why I dont like the design I feel the same as the author of this review http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...-gets-caught-living-in-the-shadows-of-giants/
"If you're thinking of getting the Verizon version, throw out everything nice I just said about the back. The Verizon variant has a different design that removes the great looking back pattern and buttons, instead using versions that could best be described as "cheaper." The diagonal inlay is gone. It's been replaced with a flat honeycomb pattern that isn't nearly as pronounced, and the sleek looking buttons were swapped out for a tacky sliver plastic. It really looks like Verizon saw the original version and told LG to bring the price down a bit. The result is something that doesn't look nearly as slick as the original." I think the entire point of having buttons on the back is to make them more easily accessible, which is what LG tried to do before verizon F'ed it up.
I guess nobody realizes that they use a smaller footprint for buttons because of the wireless charging coil.

We understand it, I just dont think its worth it lol. Id rather have a phone the way it was designed and all the other case options that come with it. But seeing how opposed everyone is. I must be overreacting.
I'm sure that people have made that connection. I can see why the OP wants it to be without the wireless charge g and to look the way it was originally designed.
I would have the wirelss charging with those "tiny indistinguishable" buttons if I could!
My guess is by the time you mod the at&t back panels to fit the square camera bezel and ensure the big buttons/notification LED align correctly it would look ugly. I rarely use the rear buttons. When I do I have a LG G2 Ballistic SG Black Case (VERIZON) SG1233-A065 on it, that covers the buttons with rubber buttons that work well for me. I don't touch the camera lens either, and it does not bother me that I covered up the notification light.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
I thought the same about the look of the Verizon variant. From my studies of the differences on the internals, I'm not entirely sure if the addition of the charging coil would cause for a change in thickness enough to prevent a retrofit into the at&t/whoever models. I've been looking and looking, and immensely surprised at how little I can find. Google is not my friend this night haha

Replies to this thread should can involve thoughts, discussions and questions you guys may have about these new devices.
Enjoy!
images shamefully stolen from the Gizmodo articles.
My personal thoughts on each device:
The new X doesn't look great to me. That ring around the camera really turns me off and I don't know how I feel about the new leather backplate options.
As for the 360, I'll have to try one before I buy one. I've heard that it doesn't have the greatest battery life but other than that is supposed to be phenomenal.
The leather is an option which mean you don't have to select it if you don't like it. Unless you are part of Peta or your religion is against it, but I'm hoping it's some type of fake leather.
I'm a bit grumpy right now. I desperately want qi charging for the X and NFC for the G, it doesn't look like either will get them.
I rather get the N6 for Android L and qi charging in that case. But I can still sell my OnePlus to fund for the X.
I have no interest in wearing a watch whether analog or digital.

I was using a Galaxy 10.1 Tablet earlier today with the faux leather the S5 has and it was alright I guess. I just wasn't amazed.
Yes it's an option, but it's a premium option. I was saying that I don't know how I feel about it because who knows, it might be better than what's on the S5.
The leather comes from the Horween leather company, they work with bovine and equine hide. I personally don't like leather (real or faux) unless it servers a purpose, belt, shoes and coat. Back on topic though, I know what my neXt phone will be, I'd even go with the G over other flagships out there.

Tbh, bigger screen, stronger processor, leather/wood back cover, higher cam and stuff, they are useless for me.
Just one thing me want from the new moto X, is the customizable voice command trigger. Or they will bring that to old Moto X as well?
Contextual services got updated which brought drive and home mode to the G and E so that's a possibility.
Anyone know if it uses the same sized SIM card as the current Moto X?

I'm in. Have an upgrade to use and I doubt the Nexus X will be available on VZW. Only other phone I might consider is the Note 4, no interest in the One or G3.
The metal frame is a welcome surprise.

After seeing how big the new x is I'm glad I got the og moto x for my wife. That would be to big for her plus it just cost me .95 cents at best buy. I think they went to big to fast 4.7 to 5.2 inch a big difference. I think the main issue that will turn off current moto x owners will be the size. Also is there no qi charger? If so that is a huge mistake as well. As far as aesthetics I don't think it looks that bad. However I do think the og x looks better.

Are you more satisfied with the Turbo than you were with the Z3V. I am thinking about doing the same thing. However I am worried the Turbo will still not allow simultaneous talk and Data, but only in a few instances after getting the update for Advanced Calling.
I am wondering if I should return my Z3v for the Turbo or get my S5 fixed. I just don't want to be stuck without simultaneous talk and Data forever and Verizon just confirmed the Z3v will never get it. I included a screen shot of my Galaxy S5. Not water damaged, but the LCD is definitely out.

Hi, thanks for posting this! I have the G2 and am thinking about getting the Turbo, but live abroad so I can't actually see one for myself right now. I'm curious as to what, if anything, you really miss about the G2 when using the Turbo. I already know I'll miss being able to add another navigation button, and in general, I'm a fan of being able to customize so much on the G2, but mine has some issues (dead spot on the screen, double-tap doesn't work), so I'm thinking of trying something else, particularly something with a bigger battery and more on-board storage.
Thanks!

I came from the g2 as well. Only thing I missed was root. I was constantly trying to run aosp and unfortunately mine was one that just wasn't stable on anything but stock based Roms.
This thing is way better in every way except for maybe size. G2 was overall smaller and lighter which is expected.
Another positive for me is signal strength.
Minus the whole no data while on calls. Which is supposed to be fixed at some point.

I'm wondering if the charger that came with the G2 works as a quick charger with the Turbo as well. One thing I love about the G2 is how fast it charges, especially when powered off.

i came from a g2 too, and a still got both phones so a could take pictures and compare, for what i see the maxx photos are richer on colors and a little bit more detailed but the lack of ios makes harder to focus resulting on more bad shoots, the speed its almost the same on both phones, and taking pictures with objects moving is a no no on both phones but talking about of still photos the turbo wins without any doubts because the reacher colors, and for the less grainer pictures.
So guys Which modules would you guys like to see for the g5?
to kick things off I was thinking of a blackberry priv like keyboard for those who can't stand software keyboards and I also thought that it would be usefull for battery cases they can be attached now without having to hide the connector on the bottom and they now have a way to talk to the phone like the apple case(which looks like hell) but I am corious what you guys can think off
added pictures of blackberry priv

It's a pity the modules only plug in on one side, (otherwise you could plug in 2 speakers either side), but they might be able to have a module that matches the top speaker for stereo.

How do they expect people to use cases with these modules? Will the cases have cutouts or would you need a special case for each module?
Preordered already a LG G5 for 599USD. Want I want to see would be an external display to make the current 16:9 resolution to 21:9. Pretty geeky I know, but for a movie it would be something. Otherwise already mentioned a better speaker.

Thats pretty neat! But how about using simultaneously two different modules? (B&O Hifi plus + QWERTY/Z pad or a device to use multiple sim cards actively (business, privat, data package etc.) Since LG is allowing third party companys to make their own module for the LG G5 there is the potential for good and useless things.

I see, that's good. I honestly doubt it comes with an unlocked bootloader but if it is an unlocked version hopefully it comes with unlocked bootloader as well, isn't it possible to just root and unlock in the future though?
A super extended battery with high res audio. If I could get that and cm13, I would declare this the best android device ever made.

How do they expect people to use cases with these modules? Will the cases have cutouts or would you need a special case for each module?

Perhaps some kind of frame case that has adjustable parts.

A super extended battery with high res audio. If I could get that and cm13, I would declare this the best android device ever made.

I think the modules are imbedded in the lg framework so I don't think they will work on cm

That HiFi DAC + a different and bigger battery = win.
I'd love to see a trackball module like the one on the good old Nexus One and maybe also a USB host type-A module (although it'll be bulky as hell...)
A landscape oriented physical keyboard of course!!! I would love to develop the hardware and software for this and make it a kickstarter if LG is actually open to 3rd party modules (no idea yet?).
I would love a case that connects to the module with an extended battery and maybe a second screen on the back of it, like an e-paper one. That'd be legit
I'm surprised to see that my idea was already mentioned by @onRecord (great minds...), because I fully acknowledge that's it's... a little crazy (but just enough to work!) I think it would be awesome to have an extended display module. I really like the modularity of the G5, but I've had Notes for a while now, and just prefer bigger displays. I'm thinking that the existence of a module that extends the screen about half an inch or a bit more and also contains as much extra external battery as could fit would very possibly convince me to swap my Note 4 for a G5. Usage-wise, it would be sweet to put the soft nav keys and dock on the extension.
It doesn't seem very likely that something like this will ever exist, but I was just thinking what modules would be cool and that was one of the first to come to mind. In any case, props to LG for releasing this legitimately innovative modular feature!
Capacitive buttons +1
An external gaming GPU ? Slide keyboard and a small trackpad would be awesome! Maybe storage moduel? Game controls?(it could be inserted like a phone case!)
Extended battery would be the best xD specially since g5 has a small battery! I wished it had an internal small battery just to last 20-10s for changing the battery without needing to restartit!
A moduel with full size USBs could also be useful! Maybe a moduel with improved wi fi and phone antenna!
(Sorry for typos I'm typing on my phone)

So , Brace yourself Moto G4 is coming
Amazing.
Fingers crossed for more durability, more battery life, more memory, a better rear camera, and quick charging (a better display, stereo speakers, and a faster processor would be a nice bonus).

Yup all those features will make the best moto g !
I think it did great overall, but more RAM is very welcome.
Sounds like you want to pay more money too....
This would likely be for the 2017 model though... I would imagine the 2016 model is already in pre-production and most of the details finalized already.
In my opinion, the existing progression should continue... minor bump in a few details each time. This time I would like to see all Moto G models have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (maybe a 32GB option), 5Ghz WiFi, and a slightly larger battery. A fingerprint reader would be nice, but reality says that is probably not in the cards (it wasn't in the list), same with NFC. A full sensor suite with gyroscope would be REALLY nice.
The rest of the stuff on this list for me is just meh... put in any you want Moto, just don't mess with the price or battery life.

I can't figure out why they keep bypassing NFC. That's not really a high end phone feature and that's high on my list. As for price, no doubt they're going to mess with that. Hehe

I think for this phone, price is key... For $50 to $100 more you can get much more phone, and with the Honor 5x (and I assume a feature packed competitor or two soon) at $199, making much of a change to the price will hurt regardless of additional features.
It's a tough market, but Moto pretty much invented it... And unless my phone fails this year I won't be replacing it, so I'll just sit back and watch how it all plays out.

I just Want NFC , Fingerprint scanner ( will be there ) , Premium Design , Turbo Charge ... Thats it ! And It can easily cost around 200$ - 240$ ! Even Lenovo Smartphones comes at 200$ with these specs !
If moto G 2016 can beat Huawei Honor 5X then Moto G 2016 can be a budget killer.
I want to Moto G 2016 with a finger print scanner and aluminum body with dual SD slot and cheap price tag. £150
if Motorola is reading this then please learn from Huawei Honor 5X.

Dual SD ? But Why ?
Internal memory + 1 SD card slot is enough ! Else you have a good point that Motorola really need to make a better phone than Honor 5x .
