[Q] Convert Verizon G2?

Hey guys, when I first saw the Verizon edition of our gorgeous phone I nearly cried! Those large tactile and innovative buttons had been replaced with tiny indistinguishable ones, not only that but they also increased the heft it to the point where we now have to have cases specifically designed for the Verizon variant, all this just so Verizon could be "Different" and "Exclusive" Anyway down to my question. Do you guys think theres anyway to retrofit out Verizon phones so that physically, they are the same as the other variants? Rip out the QI charging bits, buttons and case. Then replace with the AT&T Buttons, case ect?

I would think that you would also need the back inside shell as well because the camera bezel itself is also different. Why do you want change it? Everyone else seems to want the wireless charging.

From what I can tell the bezzel around the camera is attached to the same piece as the rear keys. So if I could fine the piece used for att id be set. We understand it, I just dont think its worth it lol. Id rather have a phone the way it was designed and all the other case options that come with it. But seeing how opposed everyone is. I must be overreacting.

I'm sure that people have made that connection. I can see why the OP wants it to be without the wireless charge g and to look the way it was originally designed.

I would have the wirelss charging with those "tiny indistinguishable" buttons if I could!

My guess is by the time you mod the at&t back panels to fit the square camera bezel and ensure the big buttons/notification LED align correctly it would look ugly. I rarely use the rear buttons. When I do I have a LG G2 Ballistic SG Black Case (VERIZON) SG1233-A065 on it, that covers the buttons with rubber buttons that work well for me. I don't touch the camera lens either, and it does not bother me that I covered up the notification light.

I thought the same about the look of the Verizon variant. From my studies of the differences on the internals, I'm not entirely sure if the addition of the charging coil would cause for a change in thickness enough to prevent a retrofit into the at&t/whoever models. I've been looking and looking, and immensely surprised at how little I can find. Google is not my friend this night haha

My personal thoughts on each device:
The new X doesn't look great to me. That ring around the camera really turns me off and I don't know how I feel about the new leather backplate options.
As for the 360, I'll have to try one before I buy one. I've heard that it doesn't have the greatest battery life but other than that is supposed to be phenomenal.

The leather is an option which mean you don't have to select it if you don't like it. Unless you are part of Peta or your religion is against it, but I'm hoping it's some type of fake leather.
I'm a bit grumpy right now. I desperately want qi charging for the X and NFC for the G, it doesn't look like either will get them.
I rather get the N6 for Android L and qi charging in that case. But I can still sell my OnePlus to fund for the X.
I have no interest in wearing a watch whether analog or digital.

I was using a Galaxy 10.1 Tablet earlier today with the faux leather the S5 has and it was alright I guess. I just wasn't amazed.
Yes it's an option, but it's a premium option. I was saying that I don't know how I feel about it because who knows, it might be better than what's on the S5.

The leather comes from the Horween leather company, they work with bovine and equine hide. I personally don't like leather (real or faux) unless it servers a purpose, belt, shoes and coat. Back on topic though, I know what my neXt phone will be, I'd even go with the G over other flagships out there.

Contextual services got updated which brought drive and home mode to the G and E so that's a possibility.

It has been said that the 1st Gen Moto X will receive updates to those services. It will also get Android L when it becomes available.

I'm in. Have an upgrade to use and I doubt the Nexus X will be available on VZW. Only other phone I might consider is the Note 4, no interest in the One or G3.
The metal frame is a welcome surprise.

I like the fact the new moto voice can interact with whatsapp. Now that whatsapp has replaced 99% of my texting, this is a must have feature

After seeing how big the new x is I'm glad I got the og moto x for my wife. That would be to big for her plus it just cost me .95 cents at best buy. I think they went to big to fast 4.7 to 5.2 inch a big difference. I think the main issue that will turn off current moto x owners will be the size. Also is there no qi charger? If so that is a huge mistake as well. As far as aesthetics I don't think it looks that bad. However I do think the og x looks better.

I read on Gizmod that it's NOT coming to the OG Moto X. They even said as much as OG Moto X dead end device.

Yeah I need to figure out timing and priorities here. The maxx still meets most of my needs.
If DNG support comes in lollipop(and this phone) then it may become very hard to justify an upgrade right now. I am 99% sure that the raws these cameras can produce will allow us to take very very good photos. I was checking the specs on this camera and it does actually support binning a raw image file.
The camera is really my only complaint and if I am being honest, the camera is currently quite good.

well for a former moto x user, this device could be less comfortable when hold it in hand
especially the shape at the edge.
And, is it just me or someone else? I really hate the capacitance buttons, if it use a navigation bar i can simply just hide the button and use LMT to make my life easier, specifically on such large size of screen.

Its roughy the same size as the phone this forum is centered around which I can handle without trouble and actually consider to be ideal, some people seem to really hate capacitive buttons. I have a nexus with on screen buttons and I prefer having them off screen. To each their own I suppose.
I think that its targeted at a different type of user than the X.

Same here, the only negative about having capacitive button is that they can't be customized/ themed. But I'll take the extra screen real estate over that any day. The Turbo is a beast of a phone and I would love to have one. But I think I'll wait for the next generation phones running on 64-bit.

My local Verizon store is preparing to put them out for demo. Store clerk pulled them out the back to show me. All 3 look nice...the cloth looking back looked the best in person to me followed by the red and the standard one.

If I hadn't just picked up the Maxx I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Although... I could buy wheels for my car for the same price. [emoji58]

The Maxx has the same battery life and does simultaneous voice and date... Winner.

Broadly speaking I'm not sure that's very important to many people anymore. I do t know anyone that makes voice calls and i would be just fine with data only. Maybe if you were a tether user.

Well I love the idea of the Turbo but it MAY have same issue as the Droid 4 with ear speaker then gonna pass on it. Can't stand the idea if gaining root or even unlocked bootloader then lose it cause phone gets sent in for repairs and get an updated unrootable phone back. Happened with our Droid 4s twice luckily they came with bad ear speakers and the next 2 were old stock that we got root on.
But that's me not every one else.

Stopped by Verizon after getting a haircut. My XT1080M had significantly better 1X service (by over 5dbm) and slightly better LTE service.
With that said, the build quality of the turbo seems much better than the MAXX which is known for being a little creaky.

Yes, my maxx is creaky too And I even swapped out my original because of it, my gf who works at Verizon grabbed a ballistic nylon turbo and wow. It really is a great phone and I enjoy using it, but the more I use it the more I realize that there is nothing wrong with my maxx I'm having trouble justifying the upgrade.

Be proud of your Moto X

I've been Moto x user for almost a year and I have no desire to upgrade. My work issued me another phone which is G3. Guess what? Moto X has some significant advantages over over that phone, even though it's considered high end device. G3 colors look dull and washed out, not to mention auto brightness feature doesn't work that well. Black color is much deeper and white color looks much better on Moto X. It dims the screen way too much indoors. Here are some interesting images. One is at 100%(bottom) another is on 0% (top) brightness. Images are taken using Panasonic mirrorless camera.
If you are thinking about upgrade, make sure you check out your next device in person.

My story is quite opposite.
I just got my moto x first gen four days ago and I'm in love.
I never quite found the phone that I could love until I used this phone.
I have owned M7,M8,S4,G2,Nexus 4&5, Moto G, Optimus G, and then from the Lumia line the 520/635/935.
I might have a problem....
The funny thing is this phone doesn't really do everything the best. It sits in the hand the best though.

I also love my moto x, but I've found some lacks:
-the device is slightly heavy considering his dimensions;
-the camera could be better;
-the device overheats easily;
so if the new moto x 2014 was not so big maybe I would have bought it

Only concern I have with my Moto X is the Whites are soo yellowish beyond acceptable... I completely hate that... Except for that it's awesome... The ways it sits at hand while calling is just so damn nice :thumbup:

I've noticed that too, but trust me it's far better than G3 or many other devices.

I took it apart once and it's very well built device, I would compromise grams for durability.
Camera is Ok I've taken some decent pictures with it. Most people don't realize that camera is just a tool and adjustments and conditions of picture taking is very important.
That;s the issue of all modern cellphones.

So Moto X users everywhere should be thrilled that you like the phone more than something else? Why should I care who likes what phone and how old said phone is? All that matters is what I like and can make work for me, not random people in the internet with unknown preferences and tastes.

I bought my XT1060 Dev edition off someone for 200 bucks to replace my Nokia 520. I'm on the AT&T network right now but I may switch to Verizon in the near future. It's good to have a phone that can run on both networks.

Moto X is the one
I've been using moto handsets for more than 18 years, I'm crazy about flashing ROMs, Moto X is the first handset which made me stop flashing ROMs, only the new CM12 I flashed it then back again to stock so quick.
I cannot live without the smartness of this phone, it's the smartest, dealing with me smartly and differently at home, car and when even touched or talked to.
My next will be definitely the new Moto X 2014.
This Moto series is incomparable.

It does not, what effects were you thinking? I am sure I could get it made...

I really really loved my Defy and Defy+s. Those were the only cellphones that resisted MY wear without breaking or scratching. It's a pity that Motorola discontinued the line (and their hardware is so outdated).
But the Moto X 1 is the best of its time, no questions asked.

I just looked at the screen size and i think it might be too big, im still gonna buy it because il been waiting for it like 2 months, but its gonna take some time to get used to it.

Coming from the G3, I don't expect it to feel much different. FWIW, when I transitioned from the G2 to the G3, I expected to really notice the size difference, but it really wasn't a big deal. As always, YMMV.

thats good to hear. i made a paper cutout of the phone size, . and thought that size might be to big for me. afew minutes ago i borrowed a friends phone who has an alcatel and its about the same size, but to my suprise the phone didnt feel very big. :fingers-crossed:

I told myself that the G3 I have no will be the biggest phone I will get, and would likely get a smaller phone next time around. I'm disappointed that the G4 is actually a bit larger, but I'm going to get it anyways!

This is a concern to me. BUT I felt out and felt up the G3 and found, in the hand, it was not as odd as I was worried it would be. And, the G4 is only a scant bit bigger. So, I decided to go for it. If I freak out the day I pick it up, and seriously think I will not be able to deal, I will just return it.

For me, coming from a 4.3" screen, losing the ability to do everything on the phone with one hand is easily offset by having a screen that isn't so cramped that I feel like I'm fat-fingering everything. My biggest gripe with my current phone is how difficult it is to precisely highlight and select text, followed by how many typos I make from having too small of an on-screen keyboard.
For the G4, I already have a case for it and it still feels manageable in my hand. The leap in screen size is massive and my thumb can now only sweep about half the screen instead of 90%, but the body size seems right to me. For reference, I have tried out the Nexus 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and both of those definitely felt too large.

I went into a VZW corporate store this afternoon on the off-chance they would be able to show me their G4 demo. As I was wandering around I saw an big LG phone I didn't recognize and at first glance assumed it was the G4 already on display. The phone was massive and WAY to big for my tastes. About then I realized I was holding the LG Vista...... whew! Scared me for a sec.
A salesperson came over, but unfortunately they hadn't received anything yet on the G4.

I came from a Moto X (2014) and after a few days with this the Moto X seems really small. And its a 5in screen.

If you guys want small phones buy yourself an iPhone

Coming from a N4 & N6 I'll be just fine. Let me know if u want size comparisons, I should have it in hand in the next 13 hrs.

I too felt the phone 6 plus too big. But the g4 seems a little smaller. I wanna check it out in a retail store before buying

Honestly it feels tiny in my hand compared to my note 4. Going to take some getting used to

I am thinking about getting one and pairing it with my note 4 and i am worried it will be small LOL

I am just flying blind and saying F it.... I bought it without seeing it, touching it, owning a G3 or anything.

I'm coming from a nexus 6. This phone actually feels perfect compared to that monster.
