Root for SCH-i815 LP11 (Verizon) - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Even though this device is older, some of us still must be using this device. I wanted to pass on that Cydia Impactor can allow Root on the SCH-i815 w/LP11 update. Stock recovery and all...

Didn't work for me. I got bugs not found.

Huh. Worked on mine, that's interesting.
Though on the second one I have, Framaroot also worked.

Framaroot worked for me

new - tab 7.7 i815 looking for roms and what to do..see below
Using the Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 or aka i815 to play around on, .. looking to learn how to root and install custom roms.. a learning tab for me. im new.
where im at... I used kingroot to root the tab, root check says im rooted with 4.0.4 (ice-cream sandwich) downloaded titanium back up.. yet not sure if that for backing up my system before playing with roms or just for adding/deleting and backing up certain apps.
all this was done using play store apps..
any advice would be great. where to go for step by step for this tab to get custom roms or maybe a better root if kingroot is not acceptable.
Thanks all.

Who here has rooted their retail unit? I've rooted every android device I've owned in the past but this one seems a little..different...to me. Really, all I'm after is some new kernels.

There is only one kernel so far and it is a work in progress so you might want to wait and take the time to fully understand the root process. If you already have Android SDK installed and are comfortable using a cmd prompt the instructions are pretty easy to follow though.

I rooted my retail 32GB grey and havent looked back! Might not be anything big available for it yet, but give it time and you know the roms and everything else will start to emerge.
I rooted but not so much for custom ROMs as much as being able to use apps that require root like titanium backup and adfree.
I did try the new kernel and overclocked but I found it unstable and went back to stock.

did the same, its better to get the "work" done now so nothing bug fun and games later
Rooted mine. Didn't feel any different than when I rooted my EVO. Of course, i rooted my EVO back before the "one-click" solutions appeared, so doing things like flashing partitions was neither unusual nor scary.

the kernel is stable (as of 10.30PM EST refresh), from various reports thus far.
your specific device cannot oc past 1ghz at what im willing to give.
you can still reap the benefits of the kernel without OC (which is a marked improvement over stock, in my opinion), if you so choose.
if you do experience any issues (when not oc'd), which you feel is kernel related, please report this in the thread with a log in hand (/proc/last_kmsg and dmesg).
thank you.
I guess i'm just hesitant because I have never rooted by running through cmd on my pc. But it has always been fairly strait forward. Leap of faith.
I feel the same way KayaK....I am leaping into it as well.
I agree that it is a bit different. I was hesitant, and hoped someone would release a simplified method. But... curiosity got the best of me.
I've rooted and upgraded to the OC kernel. I'm not having any problems, and it is a bit more responsive. Note: I did have to 'push' the files to my tablet a couple of times, because it seemed that the initial ones didn't work.
I have previously rooted my nexus s via adb/fastboot. I found the adb method to be more reliable; in the sense that, if my phone went into a bootloop... I knew I could hook it up via usb and fix it.
Just do a CWM backup first.
hoping that someone will come up with a One Click Root solution like they did for the Samsung Infuse phone. Just bought my SGT 10.1 at BestBuy and it has no SD card slot, so I am not sure how to root without pushing to sdcard. Has anyone successfully root their SGT without sdcard slot?
please advise.
Thanks

I don't believe anyone has a sdcard slot on their SGT. There is a SDCARD folder that behaves in the same way an sdcard would. Put the neccessary files in this folder and proceed as usual.

Getting Note 10.1 today! Plan to root. What order do I do things?

I am getting my new Note 10.1 2014 edition today. Obviously after I charge it up, I am going to update it with all the latest OTA patches. Then I plan to root it using the cf-auto root package. So far, thats the root package I have read that seems to work, but I don't know for sure. I also have Nova Launcher purchased and ready to go. I have a case ordered as well.
Anyone have any tips they would like to share?
Get your ota updates then after the last one do a factory reset then start building your tablet.
Nova is great on this tablet btw....
Take a look for the guide threads here to learn what you can turn off if you dont need to use.
This tablet is bloated but easily fixable.
Phase one: OTA, root. Titanium backup, freeze unnecessary apps. Nova.
Phase two ...
Phase three: profit

That worked great! I am restoring my apps now using Titanium from my old tablet. After these are going, I am going to configure Nova Launcher. Thanks a lot for the helping hand guys.
I just picked up a non LTE version, I rooted with the CF quick root through Odin 3.09.
after that you'll have to get something like ROM ToolBox and freeze all the KNOX apps.
I can't get TWRP 2.6.3.1 to work, it goes into a boot loop, 2.6.3.0 does work but offer little use over stock loader and root
so I'm playing it safe for now since its still in "beta".

With the addition of Knox rooting new Samsung devices has new consequences.
So before anyone roots......... Make sure that you have done your homework of the rooting dangers and consequences.

So I just got my Note 10.1 2014 edition yesterday. You say take the OTAs then root. Do i take all the OTAs that are available, or only up to a certain point? I normally never take any OTAs if i plan to root a device.

Note 3 Specific Root Apps??

Now That I am finally rooted, I want to ask my fellow Note 3 users what are some awesome Root apps to install?
I already have and know the basics like greenify, titanium back up, es explorer and some others. But, I'm wondering if there is anything like S-Pen apps? I am probably going to install Xposed framework, since I loved using it on my GNEX.
I have yet to try any roms out yet, but Hyperdrive or beans looks like it is going to be one of the first I try. Those seem to have a nice mix of customs options in it, while also being bug free.

Do NOT take OTA update for the very reason you have described. OTA will put you on 4.4.4 which their is no released root for yet. All other ROMS right now are based on the 4.4.2 version that was previously on our devices.
You can NOT installed leaked Lolipop ROM as that is not for our device. We will have to wait for our carriers version or possibly a port.
Once you get your device you should be able to root using Towelroot which is just a simple .apk that you sideload and run. https://towelroot.com/
Then go to this thread and install Safestrap which is the Recovery we use for our device since our bootloader is locked. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610
Follow those instructions and then you should be able to go into the Development section and load up a custom ROM. I also HIGHLY advise you take some time and read thru some threads before diving into this to educate yourself before you break something.

-No that ROM you linked to in the video is NOT for our device. That was for the international version. I believe Poland or something like that.

Lenovo TB3-850F root?

Just got this tablet today for around the house use light gaming watching YouTube and reading books on it but i can't find any info on this thing and what I do find is conflicting box says 1.00ghz on the 8inch website says 1.30ghz and a completely different cpu, mines manufacturer date was a month ago so I thought I had the latest model it has android 6.0 on it from the factory
Question is its pretty slow in basic games and Web browsing etc is there any info on rooting this or installing a rom allowing over clocking, I'd like to get the performance up a bit if possible.. I have noticed it cuts all cores off but one during some tasks and makes it come to a stand still almost so if I could root just to stop that I'd be happy
Kingroot, maybe?
https://kingroot.net/
I'd be hesitant, though; since it doesn't seem like there's any TWRP - and you'd def want a backup of the system before you root, or OTAs will be a nope.
kingroot failed, requested root and it shows 1 request so i doubt there is any root available for it right now its too new

I was able to rooot my TB3-710F (Android 5.0.1 lollipop) with their windows version after a few attempts. Not sure if there was a trick to it or not. Have flashed back to stock and will try again to see if I can repeat.
Android 6.0 probably fixed most known exploits.

Has anyone managed to find / know, or get TWRP or CWM onto this device yet?? I was planning on picking one up tomorrow, but it all depends if there is a Custom Recovery available for it....

On my TB3-850F I notice that Lenovo doesn't really add bloat to begin with. The non-standard apps can simply be uninstalled in the usual way. After years of using Samsung (Note, Note II, Tab 2) this is a refreshing change for me (on Samsung stock ROM the "extra" apps are baked in and can be frozen but not truly uninstalled; OK you can kind of uninstall them with 3C or Titanium but you can't actually reclaim any space so you might as well just freeze them).
Anyway I think a pre-rooted stock ROM is a good idea as there is no Chainfire Auto Root or similar yet and from the other forum posts on this device it's clear that people struggle when using adb and fastboot and TWRP if they are not already familiar with these kinds of tools and environments.

Lenovo is certainly more sparing on the bloat than manufacturers like Samsung for sure, not to mention all the bloat that comes pre-installed on the bulk of carrier branded devices. There are several Google related applications, however, which are baked in. With deodexing, lib removals, app data and app cache, I have been able to free up nearly 500 MB of space, leaving the end user with a bare bones Google infrastructure -- Google Play Services, Framework, Play Store, etc. More and more Android enthusiasts are becoming focused on privacy, and are steering away from all the Google centered applications.
Yeah on root I'm including a patched boot image for full systemless root support, using @Chainfire's SuperSU v2.79 TWRP flashable zip. I've made a couple of stability tweaks to the TWRP custom recovery already available for this tablet as well.
Oh, keep in mind on this particular MTK Board Platform and partitioning index, the /system image partition is allotted to 3.0GB. With bloat removed and some cleanup, the /system partition can be re-sized to 2.3GB using ext4fs, leaving 700MB to be carried back over to the /data partition.
