Hi , my name is Stefan and i am new on the forum ...
Regarding yellow tint display if somebody have an advice ,anything to solve this.
I must confess that although I have changed three screens, I have the same problem ...the display is not trully white .
The comparison is made in the same conditions : both phones are on 5.0.1 Lollipop, brightness is on maximum, adaptive mode display, auto adjust screen tone.
If somebody can tell me what is the problem , please because i don't understand why and how is possible ?
Screens can be recognized by a code, a serial number or manufacturer / supplier or is there something to differentiate between them ? From where to buy or achieve a display that have non tint yellow screen ?
Any advice is welcome because here i think is my last chance to find out what is it about...
Thank you
Have you tried to remove screen protector, just to check that its not that?
Yes , sure that i removed also screen protectoon but is the same yellow tint dispay !
And another important aspect also is , if you look carefully to my pictures beside that my dispalay has yellow tint , the colours are less vivid
Did u change the display settings

if you have the cinema mode for display selected then its because of that
You can't make anything to fix it. Mine screen is like yours. Also change my phone 3 times and always the screen is the same.
I've white phone like you. I think the problem is with white phone manufactured during 2015. I think 2014 phones doesn't have this problem.
Cheers.
No way ! My phone is always on adaptive display screen mode and auto adjust screen tone
These are the most recommended settings for Note 4, so far i know ...

I never thought at this ...what are you saying is incredible for me , this don't solve the problem but i must confess that i' m really very shocked !!! And yes , indeed you are right ! I took an app, from Play Store called Phone Info *Samsung* and manufacturing date is 2015.02.03 ,made in Vietnam
If you are right is something unbelievable !!!
So for me it's easy to find out if you're right about what you said, because tomorrow I will go and i will check if all phones that have white screens compared with my phone are manufactured in 2014.
And after that, I'll post the results here !

As i promised i'm back with the results after i checked today 4 phones that have white screens from different suppliers and situation is as follows :
1.From 2 different Orange stores i checked 2 phones both on black colour ( they sell only black colour) , first one SM-910F(snapdragon variant) was manufactured on 2014.10.08/made in Vietnam and the second SM-910X(demo unit phone) don' t appear any date of manufacturing just made in Vietnam.
2.From Media Galaxy store i checked 1 phone SM-910C (octacore exynos variant) white colour and this was manufactured on 2015.01.19/ made in Vietnam.
3.From official Samsung store i checked SM-910X (demo unit phone) ,don't appear any date of manufacturing just made in Vietnam.
While I was in the official Samsung store, I met someone, who had bought a Note 4 from same supplier as me and the phone was the same colour white , same model (SM-910F) but this person told me that bought the phone in 2014 and we checked together with the Phon Info app and yes indeed the phone was manufactured in 2014 / made in Vietnam but this phone don't have white screen !!! but the phone screen although it was manufactured in 2014, the screen was more yellow than my phone which is made in 2015 !!!
And another thing would be that my phone which is compared in pictures with the phone screen from Media Galaxy store, but it is also manufactured in 2015 , the same as mine, this phone has a white screen and not a yellow screen like my phone .
So the final conclusion :
is NOT TRUE that all the Samsung Note 4 phones manufactured until year 2015 have white screens and the phones manufactured after year 2014 have a off white/ tint yellow screen !!!
Ok, It was a guess, because in my country almost Note from 2015 have this yellow screen, also new Galaxy S6 have too.
It's true that if you search you can find a good screen but I think 75% of probability is to find bad screen.
Cheers.
I got my note 4 shortly after it was released in Oct 2014. The past month I noticed only the upper half of my screen has a yellow tint to it. I've already tried display settings. Also tried resetting the phone and clearing system cache. It isn't the screen protector. I've investigated many forums and took every advice I can find and still the upper half of my screen has a yellow tint. I see a ton of people have this issue. This phone is supposed to be good for video and video editing along with photography Kind of hard to determine a good picture if half the screen is yellow. I am sure Samsung is aware of this issue but why have they not resolved it? Seems like a recall would have been made on the phones and replacements sent out. Paid over $800 for this phone, I could have kept my old Note 2 and invested in a good camera instead. This really needs to get fixed. If Samsung customer service is going to be this bad I will go with HTC or Iphone.
Try to set it like that!!!

Hi
My GN black screen is not deep black it's a weird scratched gray-scale, i painted it and you can see what i see in a 100% dark room.
it's not a wallpaper issue i can see it in boot screen and even in LCD test ( *#0*# ) vibration (black) test.
what's wrong with my phone? is it a general problem or it's upon my chance?

please use the search function, there are a LOT postings/threads regarding this!
in short:
its a "normal" AMOLED behavior to be NOT completely dark when the screen is active (even when displaying a black image or even nothing), but:
the quality differs massively between devices, some have more darker "blotches" and lines, some less...
you have to distinguish between two things:
.) amoleds are not completely dark when the screen is active
.) due to quality issues there are deviations (blotches and lines) which are little darker then the rest of the "faintly glowing" screen. some more, some less!
and now: search and read!

it's a common problem for most note\SGS2\Nexus owners ,it's faulty screen
note:
1.All SAMOLED screens display non pure black ,100% black is an urban myth.]
2.healthy AMOLED panels should display black as an even deep grey.
3.some panels have these sketches and\or blobs when displaying total black ,it is a manufacturing defect but nothing too serious to worry about in everyday use.
if it bothers you (the lines) then have it replaced under a warranty ,though you may end up with something worse after that.
EDIT: @TML1504 you've beaten me to it .lol
nothing is perfect
Thanks Dudes,
i did search for this issue but i couldn't find anything about these weird sketches lines , when i bought this device i thought it's a company logo for advertising s-pen
i checked for other peoples issues and my device just have this black issue, so if it's common i'm not unhappier than others.
i was disappointed of GN because of bad video playback (square black) and some hanging on bluetooth share music and etc but there is no perfect device in the world.

well actually the sketching have nothing to do with bad video playback ,the square black clipping is sammsung's faulty drivers ,updating to ICS should fix about 80% of the issue.
also supercurio is working on an app that should fix it ,so keep your hopes up.
WARNING: Read the sticky announcement regarding ICS ,as all official ICS ROMs have the ability to brick your device.
only CM9 is safe at the moment
Same issue with me...!
I have the same problem and also went to the service centre for the the same, it's a normal behavior and you are not the only one who is suffering from this. I saw lot of Galaxy Note models some have much more dark spots some have less, it's purely on your luck what you got.

Go into the darkest room you can find in your house.
Boot into recovery
Put your hand infront of the blue text.
See how it's not 100% black? Now take your hand away and it will all appear totally black.
my problem is not with completely black or gray screen.
my phone panel shows some lines and sketches (looks like s-pen trail as i attached) and blobs.
i checked another galaxy note and see that's panel display is even gray without any sketches.
i think they tested the s-pen before they install gorilla glass
My phone looks completely black when the screen is on and I just have a black wallpaper. Also, when it is booting up, completely black. I've read several things on here about people having problems with the screen, but I have absolutely no problems. The thing about AMOLED that I have read is it CAN in fact be true black when nothing is shown on the screen. Say for instance the Galaxy Note boot logo, all around it should be pure black. That's what's awesome about this display. If it's not, its a faulty display, end of story.
should i use warranty to change my phone?
how i prove this issue to that guys?
I am in auto brightness, dark zones on my screen look really black I think.

yes that's the impression you get while looking at any AMOLED screen ,but trust me ,none of them are 100% black ,and I've seen at least three and tested them thoroughly .
to test you need to be somewhere dark ,under a blanket in your dark bed room is an excellent choice for this.
then turn on the display and show a black wallpaper ,or the blackscreen test by samsung.
let your eyes adjust to the darkness for a while then turn the screen off ,you should notice it going off and see that it's darker now ,turn it on again and you'll see some light come out of the screen.
you need a bit of concentration but it's there believe me.

Yes I know there have been other posts about this but this one is a little different, or at least not one that I have seen before.
I've taken a long exposure shot of my Note II in the dark with my DSLR to show the spots on the screen when it is black. I've only noticed them with my eyes when actually trying to look for them by turning all the lights off and waiting til my eyes adjust to seeing nothing so they don't bother me at all but thought it was interesting anyway.
My galaxy s2 had that ... but my notes screen is perfect ... Blahhhhhhhhhh that sucks man it's just luck of the draw

Like I say I never notice it when actually using the phone so really not bothered by it. I prefer what I have with the really dark blacks to the LCD on my last phone which was nowhere near black.
Folks, bought my SGN2 from New Delhi and I seem to have the Black Ink mark/line on the screen. Its only visible in the dark under the certain colors, eg. Grey when you use the stock Android SMS app.
Should I get the phone checked at the service centre or is this normal as I've read that this is a Samsung AOMLED manufacturing process. There were a lot of Note & Galaxy 2 phone with it. Even the Note 2 seems to be plagued.
My S2 had that problem. I haven't noticed anything like that for my Note 2 under any lighting conditions. I've been looking by forcing gray backgrounds and using stuff like screen filter to reduce dimness. Still looks good!
Mine Note 2 has a big spot on the upper right hand side of the screen

I assume its completely normal as there are a lot of people who faced this Black spot thingy, I bought my Note 2 three days ago and yesterday I noticed a big black spot on screen, but its only visible in a completely dark environment with pitch black picture on my phone.. It doesn't affect my experience with note 2 in any way, but still we want 100% perfect screen when we pay such a huge amount. Btw I bought it from local store at Chandigarh,India and the box says made in Vietnam.
PS:- As AMOLED screens are really thin, May be some glue accumulated on the back of the screen is the reason for these spots. And it is completely normal as If it were a defect it wouldn't be on almost every screen.

i also had black dots on screen and bubbles under the glass.service center replaced the display and now the black dots relocated to different locations but bubbles are gone.
i bought from kolkata. i would suggest not to take your phone to service center as they added 15-20 scratches to back cover , 4-5 dents to metal lining on side and 3-4 scratches to new display.Samsung service center in india doesn't know how to handle cellphones. They did this to multiple people.
This is an extreme case of OCD. All amoled screens have this issue. The fact that you need to try so hard to find it is why it is consisted acceptable for what you otherwise get with an amoled screen.

Yeah, Samsung India is not up to the mark in providing customer satisfaction and as you mentioned that how they handled your device, is the reason why am just dealing with this spot issue. its still better to have those spots then these scratches and dents.
Samsung should replace the handset itself if its not more then one month old, not just the display.
Had a long vertical 'Black Line" after the 'Samsung' Logo and it went from one end to the other end. It was noticeable during the startup screen of Grand Theft Auto III and on certain colors, eg: Grey. Several other black dots were around the screen as well.
Sold it off and bought another Note2. So far it's perfect
miura, this is one of the flaws with amoled, try getting it exchanged
also, you seem to have the vertical line issue too

Let me ask you all a simple question, Where are your Note 2's Made? You find this information by removing the battery cover and checking on the white sticker behind your phone. Let me know, as this can suggest something.

We don't know actually what it really is, but it is considered as normal in AMOLED manufacturing criteria.
Its annoying when you see it, but it doesn't affect screen or device in any way, So, am living with it. As its only visible in dark room with pitch black or some grey shade screen.

Hi,
Samsung S4 owners please help. Just received mine and everything looks good, however the screen has a red/burgundy tint on blacks in total darkness.
For testing I closed the camera lens and took picture so it's totally black, when you look at the picture in the dark it's not black and has red colos in it comparing to my Note ii and LG Optimus G.
If you have the same problem please post, so I can return it in two week period or switch for HTC ONE.
Thanks,
My screen is 100% black on darks. It looks like its completely off.

Confirming
Just back from 2 AT&T stores to check if demo S4 has the same problem, and confirming YES the blacks in total darkness is more like super dark dark red not 100% black.
The AT&T rep confirmed and said "If you don't like it, return it".
Also I found topic that covers this problem regarding red subpixels being active when displaying black , but the international version is fixed after firmware update.
So I think only US AT&T models affected with no fix for now.
Another thing I found is that if I scroll really fast on a black background there's a reddish haze on the screen.
Turn your brightness all the way down, go into a dark room, open settings, and scroll really fast up and down.
Does this happen to everyone else?

I Have the Sprint model and also experience this problem. There are several issues I have with this phone. Lag, software glitches, keyboard issues etc. And these occur on every S4 I have used which is several, none Exynos versions though. They rushed the release is what I think. They should have fixed the issues being compained about before release.

There is a long thread in the international S4 forum discussing this. There are two different screen problems, either red pixels are on when displaying blacks, or you get smearing on greys/purples over blacks. Samsung just released a firmware updste for the intrnational version that gets rid of the red pixels for those who had that issue, but it makes their screen smear. So no everyone has the smearing problem with tbe international version. Hopefully they can address the smearing problem with firmware soon. I can imagine some games being affected pretty badly by this issue.
Samsung S4 AT&T Version Red subpixels on black stay on.
See attached sample image. Easy to see in total darkness when brightness all the way down, red pixels visible on any black, picture, menu, web etc.. except boot logo.
The image made in total darkness, for black sample opened 100% black background.

I also have the red subpixels on my sprint sgs4
I had this on my first S4. My GF didn't on hers. I took it back to the store and they looked at me like I was crazy (didn't argue that fact).
Rep took it to the back to show manager and pull another phone and he told me that this was common enough that they got an email about it from HQ.
New unit didn't have the problem.
Not only are blacks with a redish tint, but another way to tell if the screen has this problem is press the menu button. Then, it is easier to tell a good screen vs a messed up screen because they are clearly a different color. Easier to show them that instead of minimum brightness, in a dark room, you can see it I swear kind of argument.
I wish I would have taken a pic to post the differences.

Thanks for reply,
So you just went to store and replaced bad one for good one? So maybe it's a first ones with this problem? I visited 2 different stores and demo units red as well, they said that all devices they have in stock is the same shipment 60 or so units. Will try next week.
Thanks again.

Yea, just head over to AT&T and swap it out. A display issue such as this is very rarely addressed in firmware and has to be replaced.
I replaced my unit yesterday no questions asked(kinda) as they're very aware of the myriad of issues some early devices have. Just don't use too much tech jargon like "pixels" "true black" "contrast ratio" etc. or you might get blank stares as I did lol. Good luck.
I have the T-Mobile version and have this also. I noticed it when I first turned it on. I had an S3 before so I know how black the AMOLED screens can get. I don't mind much since it's just when it's displaying blacks and I haven't seen it much except for boots. I think I have the smearing too but I just look at it as motion blur :silly:
Try turning off the auto brightness. My S4 does the same thing only when auto brightness is on.
does this happen on all models, random models, or only white/black models?
I'm curious to see if this is a potential side-effect of that semi-transparent digitizer (like the notification screen-glow thing that was mention in other threads).
I'm on my 5th replacement S4, all because of screen issues!
This is my current (5th) handset and I notice horrible green tint and stripes on the screen when on low brightness in a dark room.
Before you say it, "but this isn't normal conditions" this is my normal conditions when I use my phone at home. My room is dim.
And my S, S2 and S3 all didnt do this.
Anyone else notice this sort of problem??
Yes my first s4 had the stripes in low light.
My second replacement didn't have the stripes but has the pink tint on the lower half of the screen.
Not sure whether i should risk exchanging this one and get another s4 with a different screen issue.
I saw ur screen shot.. do u mean by green tint in left sides from corners?
If yes then its faulty.. and ignore the answer which is written below
If u mean why black is horible in settings menu like settings, file manger..
Then I have truth answer of that shot..
We all know samsung have smearing thing like we move text on settings its looks bad ghosting caused by true black pixel(turned off in black fully)..so for that, samsung did change they make a black intensity to 0 to 1% in settings menus..
So, for fixing smearing issue they did that..
If u have doubt with black.. then open a pure black image or download screen test from play store..
See the black should fine..
Dont trust on black on settings..
Its normal normal normal normal..
Edit. And I seen u are in custom rom..
Well the notification bar it's pure black and see the menu side..(file manager)
I hope it helps

In my opinion, with the S4 you just end up replacing one issue with another!
Trust me I've had 5 replacements and not one has had a perfect screen
I've given up on my quest for perfection now, which I don't think is to much to ask for one of the most expensive phones on the market!
Samsung have let themselves down on this one.

That's a shame. I would exchange the phone for a HTC one but I don't want to give up the 5 inch screen, user replaceable battery, and micro SD card.
Hoping Samsung comes out with a firmware fix for the pink tint like they did with the s2.

This issue isn't software related.
It's a very poorly made AMOLED display. Samsung only have $$$ in mind.
It is a shame, and believe me, if the HTC One had an SD card slot I would totally own one right now!
I don't disagree with you, but if they can provide a software workaround i'll take it.
If they can do some type of filter to the bottom or top of the screen to offset the pink tint that would fix the issue most likely.
I'm thinking that's what Samsung did to fix the yellow tint on the left side of the screen for the galaxy s2.
I don't see why Samsung can't do that for the s4.

U r feeling over shame..lol..
There is still no competitor of samsung..
Samsung amoled have pure black.. truly pixels off in black. Amoled have high saturated coloure.
Htc and sonys display are sufffering moslty from dead pixel but in s4 is no dead pixels..
I love amoled screen..even I have slightly tint..which not noticable..
If samsung have $$$ in mind then its not enough and not true..
Samsung have $$$ because their product have high sales becauase its best and people like it..
I know that u r sad because u got bad piece after replacement too..
My suggestion is sell it and buy s4 from original shop...
Trust me u will get perfect device...
I was non samsung fan until I buy from local shops..that results in so many faults..
After buying from original center, now I have original handset...

I got all 5 phones from reputable shops here in NZ.
The first 2 were from 2Degrees and the last 3 from Vodafone.
We don't have a Samsung store here so I've gone to the best places that are available to me.
I feel this new Full HD AMOLED panel was rushed to market and didn't have the proper quality control or testing done. Simple.
Yes I'm a bit annoyed over it, but not sad.
There are much worse things going on the world right now than my phone having a green screen.
I was just wanting to know if it really is worth me chasing the perfect screen or if everyone else is experiencing issues like this.
I got my s4 here in nz too. The firmware was out of date and I had horrible blacks in videos too. I flashed to the German firmware and it's night and day better with proper blacks etc. My only complaint now is the yellow green tint on the screen, really annoys me watching movies. It disappears if you tilt the screen slightly but when viewed straight on everything has a faint yellow tint.
I agree with what was said above - my view is it's just a poor screen.

hello xda members,
I am very sorry if i posted in wrong section but i have a mega panic attack
i bought a new galaxy s4 and within a day i noticed that white colors are kinda yellowish
on acknowledging it i called samsung and they told me to go the service centre
when i visited the service centre the person there was like it's not any fault and this happens when the manufacturing of the display is different due to version or time
he made me compare it with a reddish white phone and a blueish white phone
the bluewish white phone was much superior and the quality was perfect, the reddish one was pathetic
in all he told me there was no defect in the phone and it was perfect but i find it really hard to believe as the quality of my display is so poor and pathetic ,attached an image of me comparing the display of s4 with my monitor screen(20 inch LG LED monitor i guess)
so i want to ask is this normal because i m having a really hard time on the thought of living with this display
so m planning to go to the head office of samsung tomorrow and see if they find this issue or not
had such wonderful time with s2,miss those days with s2
i thought upgrading will be worth it after living with s2 but it has made my life miserable

My display has a little bit yellowish white too when I compare it to my LED Screen. But it doesn't bother me, cause I know it's the way amoled displays work. They never had perfect white when compared to IPS or LED.
Edit: I think your S4 has more yellowish tint than mine does. But it may be cause the camera plays with the saturation or so. Dunno.
Thanks for your reply i read in some threads that this is what you pay for clearer blacks,
but in my s2 i get whites almost same as in LED monitor, My s4 is more yellower than the LCD on my old laptop
I am having hard time accepting this yellowish white
and will give it a try at the samsung centre again tomorrow and update the result
It is not normal... too yellowish as I see on your picture.. mine is fine.. demand a replacement...

well talk about tough luck and malpractices
samsung hit me hard this time
they kept the device for 2 days telling me that it was a software issue , they didn't even do anything with the device just kept for 2 days so that m out of the 7 day period for replacement
they are telling me that i am the only one reporting this issue so they can't do anything if i had 5-10 people with the same issue then only they will do something
In all just wasted all my money on the s4 and feelling like throwing it in dustbin
