Battery Life Amazing Now - X 2014 General

Recently my battery life has really been on the up and up. I'm not sure what it is but after all the app updates it has really flatlined, meaning I can get 2 days on it now. One extra thing I did was delete the cache under app storage along with another wipe cache partition. Previously also I used to notice my phone battery would drain at night but now it just pauses any drain. Anyways anyone noticing this?

I haven't noticed any improvements (Pure edition running 5.0). What build/version are you on?

I agree : I'm using mine in LTE mode, location in high accuracy mode, Google now activated, gmail outlook and corporate mails in push, all sync activated including drive and google + and WiFi off but always available for location : with that settings I have 18h off-battery with between 3h30 and 3h45 SOT.
For weekends, it last from Saturday morning to Sunday evening off-battery with between 1h30 and 1h45 SOT per day.
It is a XT1092 used in France, moto official ROM and no root.
I believe recent battery improvement to come from LTE network improvements : more cells, better signal= lots less work for my device.
I'm very satisfied. I have a few bugs on 5.0 but nothing huge, no random reboots or app crash. My only one deception : no 5.1 for my moto x for now and I want it because I like security and does not accept that a simple factory reset would allow a thief to use my encrypted device. I have heard 5.1 will correct this by asking thief to log on last known Google account to use the device.

It could also be the latest version of google play services finally fixed some memory leak and wakelocks

I am on the 5.0./pure version. Try the cache partition wipe as well as the storage cache wipe. Need to do both

Where are these cache wipe settings located at?

One is at wipe cache partition. Which requires a restart with buttons pushed. Google that one. The other one is under settings - storage - cache- delete apps cache

How do you clean battery stats in recovery?

I'm experiencing great battery too since a couple of days ago. It seems that the new Google Play Services fixes the memory drain. I did a wipe cache too but not a cache partition.

I cleared the app cache in settings and did a cache wipe from recovery and my battery life hasn't improved at all.

If you actually mean the battery stats, then that myth has been debunked ages ago: https://plus.google.com/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT

Is it best to let the battery full drain after doing this? Or anything else you recommend?
I had my battery heating up to 100+ degree and did a partition clear and it has helped with the heating but I still get less than a day with my battery. No root, 5.1.

I downgraded the other day to 4.4.4 - and for the first time since November, my phone's battery lasted me a full day from 6am - 11:30pm. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner.
I'm really doubting 5.1 is much better. Someone keep us posted on the battery life on 5.1. Otherwise, I'm content to stay on 4.4.4 for a longggg time.

I mentioned this to a coworker the other day. Its a very noticeable difference in battery life.

No changes here, I keep getting high cell standby usage (between 10 and 15%) and pretty bad battery life.

I can not figure it out! But Google is killing me!

[Q] Please help me find the cause of battery drain

My phone's battery has been sucked dry way too fast since ~may 25.
I am and have always been on stock rom, and I only rooted the phone this weekend in order to use BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock Detector.
I estimate that during a day of heavy use for me before the end of may, the battery usage cannot have been much above 5%/h
According to BBS the phone used 6.4%/h over 7h30m this morning with less than a minute of screen on-time.
None of these things have helped significantly:
Disabling automatic syncing
Setting location mode to "device only"
Uninstalling EVERY third-party app except these most essential: Authy, Barcode Scanner, BetterBatteryStats, Dropbox, DSB Wildcard, LastPass, Sleep as Android (and addons), SuperSU.
Factory reset
*Upgrading to Android 4.4.3
Disabling WiFi to see if that would make a difference
Disabling mobile network data
Using recovery mode to wipe cache
My conclusions (please correct me if i'm wrong):
The drain is not caused by any third party app that I have removed without seeing an improvement
The drain is not caused by Google's location service or account syncing
The cause is not Android itself. I used 4.4.2 for 6 months without problems, and I only upgraded to 4.4.3 last week
The problem is independent of location (WiFi and cell towers). During the 7h30m when I collected the data below and got the corresponding graph, I was both at home, at work and commuting between the two, and I can't see any difference on the graph.
The problem is not related to the runtime, because i used ART almost since it was released with android 4.4 and after the factory reset I have used Dalvik
My suspects:
The issue started while the new version of Google Play Services was rolling out. Maybe it ****ed something up?
Batteries consist of multiple "cells" right? Maybe one of them (about 50% I think) broke?
I have uploaded a logfile from BetterBatteryStats below. That data was collected with account syncing disabled, location mode set to "device only" and only the third-party apps mentioned above installed.
Please contribute with any relevant insight or idea, and don't hesitate to ask for more info or propose experiments, to narrow down the possibilities.
Thanks

Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery? Give them a wipe and let's hope that stop the battery drain.

Hey taodan, thanks for the suggesion. :good:
I forgot to mention that I have used ART almost since it was released with Android 4.4, but I haven't changed the runtime since i did the factory reset.
So I have had the battery draining issue with both runtimes, which makes me think that the it is not related to the runtime I'm using.
I have tried wiping cache from recovery at least once, but I can't remember if I did that before or after the factory reset.
Do you still think that wiping dalvik cache will help?
I will update the original post with the info I forgot here.

[Q] Verizon Lollipop update - Battery life has decreased exponentially

Good morning Everyone,
I received the OTA update to lollipop on Tuesday night. Since then, I've noted the following:
Upon successful completion of the update, I was prompted to update google play service. I don't know for sure whether it actually updated but it did take a very long time to do anything. The phone was largely non responsive at this time.
The phone seems to be a little laggy since the update.
My battery life has tanked. I used to get close to 36 hours out of the battery. This has since decreased to 6 hours.
I do see another user experienced issues with google play services. I have tried clearing the cache on both the google play store and google play services and rebooted as was suggested in that thread, though I was not prompted to update it. I'm running version 6.5.99 (1642632-438) of the google play service.
The main concern is the lag and the battery life. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

Thanks DopeShow. It's good to know this isn't necessarily a system wide issue. I'll try reflashing as soon as I can.

I'm backing up my data now.
My S5 is not rooted. What method would you suggest I employ to reflash? I'm guessing recovery mode but wanted to get your thoughts.
My battery life is horrible on 5.0 too... I'm not rooted, so it is hard to tell what is killing it...
Just shows up as android kernel and Android system in GSAM battery program. They are taking over 2x more battery than the screen is.
Might need to factory reset at some point...

You can Odin either an OA8 tar from Sammobile or Odin a NK2 tar then OTA to NK7 and OA8. Both of these don't require root. Also, I'd suggest factory resetting once you flash a tar, as it should improve battery and it might be required to boot.
First thing to try to fix the battery drain is boot to recovery and clear the cache partition. If that doesn't work then a factory reset will be necessary to fix it. I have personally always done factory resets after system updates dating back to Froyo. Just helps to clear everything up.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. I booted to recovery and performed a factory reset. Early indications suggest battery life is greatly improved. I'll post back in a day or so to give you a final verdict.
I hope very few users suffer from this, but if so I trust this information is helpful.
I can't say I have really noticed a decrease in battery life, but I have noticed it takes longer to charge now.
I watched movies and television shows on my device yesterday, all day. Started with a full charge and got almost 8 hours of screen on time before I plugged in. Batter still had 12%. This was with stock non-rooted version of Lollipop. Seems comparable to what I was getting on KK.
I also had issues when updating to Lollipop. I had issues with Google Play Services, and I ended up having to do a factory reset of the phone.
For the most part I have had no trouble with apps force closing or anything like that. But I have had horrible battery drain as well. When I am not using my phone, it seems that the battery life maintains pretty well. But when I use it even for not intense tasks - browsing news apps or something like that - it drains really quickly. I'm lucky if I get 6-8 hours of use per day. I used to be able to last a solid 14 hours of decent use before I had to recharge.
Any thoughts what could be causing it after I did the factory reset? My phone is not rooted.
same problem
Non-rooted S5 and after lollipop update it is chewing my battery and generally laggy (slow response to screen press). Even getting force closes on apps. Backing up now for a factory reset. Hope it helps.
Edit - 3/5/15 Factory Reset and reloaded all apps. Still working through all my website logins and settings. Not enough time to know if it fixed my battery issue but feels like the lag issue is fixed. Only been a day and initial thoughts is a reset was the cure. Will check back after the weekend with an update.

Yet another battery drain issue

Hi, folks.
So I've installed an update yesterday (I think it's the security update from the first of January)
http://imgur.com/d0IkGXV
and my battery immediately went down the drain. These are the usage statistics during the night:
http://imgur.com/VwFGP2k
http://imgur.com/qO66N4F
From what I can see, the phone has been awake the entire night. That can't be normal, right?
Since this update has been around since January, has anybody else had these issues with this update? Any solutions?
Same model, same update, same issue.Others say that battery life increased with this update, but for me not.Factory reset didn't help. Maybe Google f*** services again.
I'm on N910C and have the latest update for my region (DQA1). Although my battery life hasn't been as good as I've seen in the past, it's definitely not as bad as what you're seeing and my phone doesn't stay awake all night. I do use Greenify Hibernate and Aggressive Doze, so maybe that's why - or perhaps you have a misbehaving app somewhere.
Try to clear data from all Google services, playstore etc reboot into recovery and clear cache.. if the problem still remains then the only solution is factory reset.. there's an app causing this your cpu/ phone is a wake all the time

Mine doesn't do this, there must be something misbehaving on your phone. There are steps you can take such as deleting cache/data from G.P.S. to try to solve this issue. Search the forums/web for other suggestions.
First thing to do it, just do a factory reset. Install only the MUST have apps one by one over couple of days. Watch it overnight. Since there has been some security updates, its possible that I broke some code on some non google apps installed on your phone. First try to isolate that app. I am pretty sure that google has tested the code on all google apps before it released it.

Huge battery drain

I bought the mi A1 about 8 months ago and it was working fine up until 3 weeks ago.
The battery has started to drain big time and the Android is consuming most of the power.
I've tried the below already,*
1. Calibrating my battery.
2. Factory reset to January update.
3. Stopping the apps running in the background.
4. Turning off location / wifi and internet.
5. Tried disabling backup of photos.
6. Disabled app preview messages under Google.
Despite doing all this the battery drains big time, even when it's idle when I'm sleeping.
P.s - I'm unable to upload screenshot because it keeps saying that there's a network issue. But the screenshot stats say that the android os consumes most of the battery and SoT was 30 minutes. Phone was idle for most of the time. It came down 100-20% in a few hours.
Android OS is eating away most of the battery.
First thing, clear the cache, you can use explorer to do it, hit clean at the bottom.
Check running apps (settings > developer > running services) and see what is running and using battery.
It might be the media scanner, they use loads of battery when they get stuck on a corrupt file, you could take out the sd card if you have it formatted as external.

Thank you for your response.
I've cleared cache using the Files Go app.
I checked the services running in the background and I've all the cached process but they seem to be regenerating.
Apps consuming RAM are - Settings, Messenger, callenhancement, SimContacts,com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel, carrier services, google play services, spock, swiftkey and the launcher.
All these get regenerated even if I kill them.
Do any of the following cause battery drain? If yes, how do I fix them?
I've already done a factory reset but the problem still persists.

Apps will start and run in the background, that is normal in android, the only way you can reduce that is to reduce the background apps in developer options.
I think you should instal better battery stats which should help you work out exactly what is draining the battery.
Is you phone stock, have you rooted, used any custom roms or modded it?

Battery Drain 3 days after Clearing Cache Partition

Hi
I've got a Moto E4 running android 7.1.1 (latest software update in France). No problems at all until just recently. Battery draining at about double normal rate for no apparent reason. When I go into battery usage details the categories (Screen, wifi, google play services) only add up to about 12% total yet the drain is 70% total. Don't know if that's relevant or not.
So I cleared the cache partition and problem seems to be fixed. Then 2 or 3 days later, high drain rate again. Cleared cache partition again and for 3-4 days no problem, now drain back again. No new apps downloaded recently. No unusual usage. Most apps have sync permissions turned off.
Has anyone any ideas or suggestions other than factory reset which I'd really rather avoid if at all possible?
Thanks very much for your time on this.

Yep - block javascript in chrome (site settings) - problem went away immediately. Then allow javascript on different pages gradually to work out which one(s) are causing the drain. For me it was the BBC news site - I think there was a problem with video autoplaying and getting stuck in some sort of loop. Hope it works for you too.
