Good morning Everyone,
I received the OTA update to lollipop on Tuesday night. Since then, I've noted the following:
Upon successful completion of the update, I was prompted to update google play service. I don't know for sure whether it actually updated but it did take a very long time to do anything. The phone was largely non responsive at this time.
The phone seems to be a little laggy since the update.
My battery life has tanked. I used to get close to 36 hours out of the battery. This has since decreased to 6 hours.
I do see another user experienced issues with google play services. I have tried clearing the cache on both the google play store and google play services and rebooted as was suggested in that thread, though I was not prompted to update it. I'm running version 6.5.99 (1642632-438) of the google play service.
The main concern is the lag and the battery life. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

Thanks DopeShow. It's good to know this isn't necessarily a system wide issue. I'll try reflashing as soon as I can.

I'm backing up my data now.
My S5 is not rooted. What method would you suggest I employ to reflash? I'm guessing recovery mode but wanted to get your thoughts.
My battery life is horrible on 5.0 too... I'm not rooted, so it is hard to tell what is killing it...
Just shows up as android kernel and Android system in GSAM battery program. They are taking over 2x more battery than the screen is.
Might need to factory reset at some point...

You can Odin either an OA8 tar from Sammobile or Odin a NK2 tar then OTA to NK7 and OA8. Both of these don't require root. Also, I'd suggest factory resetting once you flash a tar, as it should improve battery and it might be required to boot.
First thing to try to fix the battery drain is boot to recovery and clear the cache partition. If that doesn't work then a factory reset will be necessary to fix it. I have personally always done factory resets after system updates dating back to Froyo. Just helps to clear everything up.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. I booted to recovery and performed a factory reset. Early indications suggest battery life is greatly improved. I'll post back in a day or so to give you a final verdict.
I hope very few users suffer from this, but if so I trust this information is helpful.
I can't say I have really noticed a decrease in battery life, but I have noticed it takes longer to charge now.
I watched movies and television shows on my device yesterday, all day. Started with a full charge and got almost 8 hours of screen on time before I plugged in. Batter still had 12%. This was with stock non-rooted version of Lollipop. Seems comparable to what I was getting on KK.
I also had issues when updating to Lollipop. I had issues with Google Play Services, and I ended up having to do a factory reset of the phone.
For the most part I have had no trouble with apps force closing or anything like that. But I have had horrible battery drain as well. When I am not using my phone, it seems that the battery life maintains pretty well. But when I use it even for not intense tasks - browsing news apps or something like that - it drains really quickly. I'm lucky if I get 6-8 hours of use per day. I used to be able to last a solid 14 hours of decent use before I had to recharge.
Any thoughts what could be causing it after I did the factory reset? My phone is not rooted.
same problem
Non-rooted S5 and after lollipop update it is chewing my battery and generally laggy (slow response to screen press). Even getting force closes on apps. Backing up now for a factory reset. Hope it helps.
Edit - 3/5/15 Factory Reset and reloaded all apps. Still working through all my website logins and settings. Not enough time to know if it fixed my battery issue but feels like the lag issue is fixed. Only been a day and initial thoughts is a reset was the cure. Will check back after the weekend with an update.

SUDDENLY THIS ARE THE ISSUES WHICH I GOT
1) HEATING ISSUE: AFTER LOLLIPOP UPDATE MY PHONE IS GETTING REALLY REALLY HOT EVEN WITH A NORMAL USE
2) BATTERY DRAINING FAST: MY BATTERY IS DRAINING LIKE HELL,ON STANDBY MY BATTERY IS DRAINING AND ITS GET TO 60 PERCENT FROM 100 PERCENT IN 1 HOUR WITHOUT USING IT..I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT TATS WHAT THE UPDATE HAS GIVEN ME
3) SLOW CHARGING: THE CHARGE TIME HAS INCREASED NW AND IT TAKES MORE THAN 3 HOURS TO FULLY CHARGE, WHILE ON KITKAT IT USE TO CHARGE IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS (ALSO GETTTING VERY VERY HOT WHILE CHARGING)
4) LAGGY: NOW IT HAS ALSO BECOME LAGGY EVEN AFTER ONE DAY SOME APPS TAKES TIME TO OPEN, EVEN SETTINGS TAKES SOME TIME TO OPEN
HAVE FOUND ALL THIS BIG ISSUES IN LOLLIPOP CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING
CONCLUSION:
SO YUREKA THIS IS WHAT YOU HAD GIVEN US. AFTER KEEPING US WAIT FOR SUCH A LONG TIME YOU HAD GIVEN US JUST ISSUE AND NOTHING ELSE
I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING.I OWN A CANVAS A1 AND IT IS ON LOLLIPO 5.1 AND WORKING REALLY FINE
BUT YUREKA IS NOT ON 5.1 RATHER THAN 5.0.2 AND REALLY MAKE US UNHAPPY

i will blame
because mine other devices are on lollipop and working fine and this **** has given me issues so thats the reason i am blaming
if you are happy then its ur reasn nt mine
on kitkat i was really happy i am only blaming after updating and facing these issues
i am also satisfied with the new update.... volume level increased .... heating down than before... only problem is the reboot....
i don't know why all guys are blaming the phone ... if you guys ate so good at this tweaking rooting and all other things why can't you use a custom ROM ...
if my reboot issue is not fixed in the next update i I'll go for a custom rom ...
rather than that yu yureka is a nice phone....

You can try the following steps for your problems.
First root your phone. There are posts here on XDA and YU forums also mentioning the right way to do it.
Then install Greenify to hibernate the apps.
Download trickstermod app from play store. In the general section of the app set min value as 200000 and max 1497600
Save and apply the frequency lock. Save again. Go to specific section of the app and apply both the settings I.e, temperatures and zram.
Apply the settings and see if it helps.
As for the charging time, the fast charge is to be implemented into the kernel . so wait for our developers to create a 64 bit CM12 kernel.
Hope this helps you
And third step install better battery stats, which helps to find wake locks. Find it and disable the service which keeps the device awake through 'disable service' app.

1st of all i updated my yureka to lollipop officially and through cwm, so i can't say much. However the heating issue rather wasn't much of a problem as it happened to me once or twice in a day after heavy usage for the entire day(yes i am addicted to my phone ). Battery as you have said is draining indeed too but i think you're battery is the problem, i can use from 100% to 16% in 7 hrs. Slow charging is indeed a problem. However for both kitkat and lollipop it takes the same time for me more or less. Continuing the lollipop update is giving me no lag as of now whatsoever. Yes far more improvements are required, but blaming i doubt will solve anything.

CM12 is 64-bit
Bottomline: Rollback is not possible.
DON'T TRY FLASHING CYANOGENMOD 11, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
are you update manually or by OTA???
I am also facing exact same issues (100% exact) as mentioned by the OP.
My phone was working very well on KitKat but now having issues
So, we do not have option to go back to CM11
Working fine
My yureka is working fine after update, sometime only 2% battery drain after whole night. Alway wipe cache and dalvik after flashing any update and restrict background processes to 2 processes at a time instead of standrad limit.

No.
You shifted from a 32-bit CM11S version to a 64-bit CM12S version.
Moreover, you shifted from Dalvik to ART.
Go to recovery, do a wipe [Dalvik cache and cache]
Reboot. Optimise the apps.
Reboot again [just to be sure]
WAIT for a while.
And all the problems will be gone. I know cause the lags and heating issues were there for me too and a wipe fixed it for me.
EDIT: I AM NOT CONSIDERING THE CHARGING TIME, SINCE I HAVE A FASTCHARGE ENABLED KERNEL.

Sorry about the first line. I don't mean to be rude.
And no, the cache isn't cleared properly. And OTA updates are almost similar to dirty flashes.
Dalvik cache is automatically cleared [cache, not necesasrily] during update for complete app optimization for ART. Otherwise heating, lags, and longer boot-up times WILL be experienced.

WILL can be replaced with MAY. For instance, I myself forget to clear Cache after applying OTA on Yureka but everything worked Great, as it did for many. For some, It may not have worked it seems.
But, Clearing caches isn't always for Good. A Month ago, I wanted to help a friend with Karbonn "Android one" phone, to update from Kitkat to Lollipop via Offical OTA. What I did was sideload OTA .zip file and then cleared the caches. Everything seemed Okay after optimizing apps dialogue, but something -ve happened due to that. Clearing caches cleared phones IMEI no, phone serial no, etc prevented me to connect to WiFi or 2g/3g towers. Wiping User data solved things, but still that extra one step cost-ed me lot of frustration and time. (Just wanted to share my experience.. )

Does anybody know if we are able to flash any other versions of GApps on the rooted LG V20?
My V20 is from AT&T and since day one it has had terrible battery life. Where I was able to use my Note7 or Droid Turbo all day and still have battery left, the V20 eats the battery charge like Sally Struthers in a See's Candy warehouse. I mean, I have to charge this thing at least 2 times a day when I use it to search the web or any battery intensive purposes. I never had this problem on any other phone. I have been trying to find ways to improve my battery. I used Rom Toolbox Pro to disable all kinds of stuff, and it worked great, until my phone started Grand Mal seizing giving me the Google Play Services has to close notifications, which I then had to factory reset just to get my phone working properly again.
I would like to try flashing a minimal version of GApps that pretty much just has the play store and play store services. Are we able to do this on our V20's without having any issues? If you have any input at all I would really appreciate it.
IMHO it must be an app or two you have installed draining your battery like that. On a full charge I can a whole day and a little in to the next. I am a heavy user too. Are you blasting the brightness at 100% all the time? If so auto brightness will help a little. Go in to setting and see what is using that much drain

I was thinking it might be something I installed, as well. But I can't seem to pinpoint any apps that might be causing the battery drain. I keep the screen on auto brightness like you mentioned so it shouldn't be the screen. GSam almost always shows the Android System and Kernel (Android OS) at the top of the list of battery-draining apps. I love the phone, I just cannot figure out what is going on. I mean, I am not doing anything different than I have on my previous phones, and the V20 seems to be working fine. I thought maybe it is something with Nougat. I will gladly post some pics of app usage or data if it might help figure this problem out.

What rom are you on? Are you on stock white theme? I'm running a dark theme, which can help save a little juice. I'm also running as many team blackout apps as I can (many Google apps) to avoid all the whiteness. Just throwing out some ideas.

Interesting! I have never heard of Team Blackout Apps, they look pretty nice! Yes, I am on the stock ROM just the way it comes. I haven't changed anything at all. I have barely installed any apps just to see if I can find what is causing the battery to drain. Are there any other ROMs that work with the AT&T variant of the LG V20? It seems like they haven't made any yet for the AT&T V20. I am still waiting for Xposed to be released that is compatible with nougat so I can use Amplify.

I don't think there are any roms for AT&T variant atm. I did see an AT&T user flashed the stock deodexed rom by tilde88 in rom section. Not sure of all the details though. I'm assuming you would lose some functionality...would need to flash stock kernel as well.
What is your leading source of battery drain under system usage?

Yeah definitely, I think it is a little bit too early, for me at least, to expetiment with a deodexed ROM. But I know there will be some awesome developments coming out soon. I was so happy to see that a root was figured out for the V20 so quickly after it was released. Until then, I will keep experimenting with the stock ROM.

Hi Swizzle82, thank you for the reply. It is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint what the leading source of battery drain is because the apps seem to bunch all detected processes and wakelocks together. I know that Call Services & Android System show up on top a lot of the time, but since I factory reset the phone today, the stats are minimal compared to what I previously had. WeChat also uses resources, but I used that app all the time on my Note7 and previous phones, even more than I do now, and it never caused a problem. I attached some screenshots from GSam, BetterBatteryStats, Wakelock Detector, and CPU Spy Reloaded., I don't know if they will help, but just switching between those few apps and taking some screenshots over the span of 6 minutes, my battery percentage dropped from 79% to 76%.

I charged it til it reached 100 percent, with the phone plugged in, I went to data/system/batterystars.bin and deleted that file and rebooted. It was a long process but it hasn't been an issue since. This was when the phone first came out last month. Never knew which apps data it was but it is gone now.

That sounds like a good idea to try. I will do this today since I already factory reset it yesterday. I would rather do it now before I get further into using it again. I have not heard about this until you mentioned it so maybe there is an issue with app transfers with the V20 causing it. The battery does seem to drain less than before, but it seems like there are still some issues. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you followed did the dirtysanta method, make sure you flash the Konverged kernel for the H918. Or Tilde88's 5.1 kernel for the H918. It worked wonders on improving battery life. Also make sure you disable Lookout - that drains a lot of battery it seemed to me at least. I usually get about a day and a half of battery life when I use my normal amount (which is honestly quite a bit).

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I have not even looked at those kernels thinking they weren't cross compatible with H910. I am going to try it right now with the dirtysanta method. I will disable Lookout, as well. There are a ton of apps that I never use that drain the battery. I will let you know how it goes :good:

No, I had the Note7 before getting the LG V20. Before that I had a Note 4 and a Droid Turbo. This is my first LG phone and I really do love it. I actually like it more than the Note7, the only problem I have is the battery. I do think that factory resetting and manually installing the apps instead of restoring them will help, and using the Konverged kernel seems promising, from what I am reading.

Yup I always start fresh and install apps manually anytime I reset my phone. I think it's always nice to start fresh - even if it is sometimes a bit inconvenient to go through all the apps you've installed and choosing which ones to install. Hopefully you get it all sorted out!

Okay, I just factory reset the phone, rooted it with DirtySanta, and flashed the Konverged kernel and the phone is NOTICEABLY faster and smoother! This is great! Each time I reset the phone, it had noticeable lag. I just figured it would go away over time, which it did, and that it was because it had to load and download everything since it was fresh. But with the Konverged kernel, it has none of the lag and is silky smooth! Time to manually install the apps I want and disable some stuff I don't need. I will update you guys after I see how the battery is with the new setup Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate all the input!:good:
I need your help! I changed the screen cover sensor to off not realizing that I would not be able to turn off the static after rebooting my phone since the sensor is off. Would somebody please post a few screenshots showing how to navigate to the screen sensor settings so I can tap my way there and turn it back on? I am trying but there is no way to tell where to tap with all the static. Thank you!
Nevermind, I fixed it! I finally navigated to the second screen settings and turned it off when the screen is off and that got rid of the static after I turned the screen off then on again. Note to self, never do that again LOL.

Wow I'm fairly impressed you managed to do all that with the static screen haha - glad to hear it worked out for you in the end.
Get me your stock system.img and boot.img, and I'll make you a modded ROM with a custom kernel!

Haha yeah, I never knew something like that could cause such a huge problem. Now I can't seem to find what I did to cause that in the first place. I have been looking through all of the settings and can't seem to find anything that affects the proximity sensor. On top of that, the screen rotation stopped working, it will not rotate when I turn the phone to the side to type. I have toggled all of the motion and second screen settings, calibrated the motion sensor, and nothing is affecting it. When I turn the main screen off, the sensor does not shut off the second screen when I cover it with my finger, and the phone does not recognize when I rotate the screen. I am kind of at a loss on how to fix it.
Hi, folks.
So I've installed an update yesterday (I think it's the security update from the first of January)
http://imgur.com/d0IkGXV
and my battery immediately went down the drain. These are the usage statistics during the night:
http://imgur.com/VwFGP2k
http://imgur.com/qO66N4F
From what I can see, the phone has been awake the entire night. That can't be normal, right?
Since this update has been around since January, has anybody else had these issues with this update? Any solutions?
Same model, same update, same issue.Others say that battery life increased with this update, but for me not.Factory reset didn't help. Maybe Google f*** services again.
I'm on N910C and have the latest update for my region (DQA1). Although my battery life hasn't been as good as I've seen in the past, it's definitely not as bad as what you're seeing and my phone doesn't stay awake all night. I do use Greenify Hibernate and Aggressive Doze, so maybe that's why - or perhaps you have a misbehaving app somewhere.
Try to clear data from all Google services, playstore etc reboot into recovery and clear cache.. if the problem still remains then the only solution is factory reset.. there's an app causing this your cpu/ phone is a wake all the time

Mine doesn't do this, there must be something misbehaving on your phone. There are steps you can take such as deleting cache/data from G.P.S. to try to solve this issue. Search the forums/web for other suggestions.
First thing to do it, just do a factory reset. Install only the MUST have apps one by one over couple of days. Watch it overnight. Since there has been some security updates, its possible that I broke some code on some non google apps installed on your phone. First try to isolate that app. I am pretty sure that google has tested the code on all google apps before it released it.
Happening whenever it feels like it. Could be daily, could be once every 2 weeks. But phone starts off fine, then I can feel it heating up in my pocket.
Try a factory reset
Did a full factory reset including wiping sd card.
Day 1 every thing was perfect. Really good battery life and phone ran flawless.
Day 2 was the same.
Day 3 (today) started out good. About 3 hours after taking off charger battery was at 97% with 61+ hours standby. Then an hour later I noticed the phone lagged when I went to check notifications. And noticed battery had dropped by about 10%. I let it do its thing so I could see what happened and it just kept chewing battery. The only thing I did differently was to enable Google Now.

EDIT to clarify, the phone is stock unrooted.
1.Check for rogue apps
2.Change SD card
Don't know if this helps but I have disabled every Sprint and Google app i.e. Google games, etc. anf every other POS app that came with the Sprint Phone. don't know what preloaded crap your phone came with but it wouldn't hurt to remove all unwanted apps.

Use LG UP and flash stock latest rom with "partition download option ". It is very important to do this after any OTA installed.
I did this to my phone and facing no issue.
Check the latest country specific Rom and download it.
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h990ds-firmwares/
Then use LG UP and connect phone in download mode and then select the firmware and flash....

Why is it important. Aren't you just replicating manually what the OTA just did ?

Have been through two updates and no problems.
Had there been problems after an update or recently after then i think your way would be the way to fix it
After the oreo update my phone is laggy and overheating quite often. Battery drains much faster in use, but lasts more on standby.
All the above with typical use FB, instagram, chrome etc no games.
I know I can hard reset my phone but this is great inconvenience with all the banking apps etc.
Already cleared the cached memory, and restarted the phone
I just think it's a bit too much for a one year old flagship device to be that laggy. It was not that fast to begin with but now it's going out of hand. And it is not normal to require a full wipe because of an update, since that makes sense only for us here in XDA but not for the rest of the world.
Anybody with the same problems or suggestions??

I'm already on Oreo and no problems so far without factory reset (updated via LG bridge, OTA always gave me these problems like you are facing right now). This behavior is usually caused by some installed app and not by OS itself. So try to uninstall all unnecessary apps, anyway I guess you can't avoid factory reset in your case...
I also did the update with the bridge, and i am on the hunt for the guilty app!
Apparently I am the only one!
No you are not alone. When Oreo was released, i used flashable .zip (i wiped all partitions including data in TWRP beforehand) and i was experiencing exactly same problems. Sometimes after restarting the phone there was no cell signal at all and i had to restart it once again. But the biggest problems were lag, really noticable lag and battery drain.
I said that can't be right and:
Downloaded Oreo KDZ
Factory reset phone
Flashed KDZ
Manually wiped all partitions (cache, dalvik, system, boot, data) while in Fastboot
Back into download mode and flashed KDZ once again
After going through all this my phone is snappy once again and battery lasts up to two days when I'm not using it too much.
I had Problems, too. I was on Fulmics 4.2 and first tried to install the Oreo ZIP via TWRP. Phone was lagging alot afterwards. I used LGUP and the KDZ next, thereby factory resetting my phone. Everything was snappy afterwards, no overheating or battery drain. I installed TWRP (3.1.1, since 3.2.1 didn't work) via fastboot and flashed Magisk 16.0. Boom, Phone was lagging all over the place, and battery drained fast. Flashed KDZ via LGUP again (Upgrade, not Refurbish), thereby loosing root, but - Phone was snappy, no battery drain.
For the time being, i keep using Oreo unrooted, since i like the new Features, and hope the xpirt will publish a new Version of Fulmics ROM.

When you say "overheating", how many ?
For me since Oreo, I find that the phone heat a little for minor activities : web browsing, whatsapp, switching between different apps... For me the "heating" begins when I can feel a hot point near the fingerprint sensor. By GSam battery monitor, phone is arround 33°.
The max I reached is about 38-40°, especially when I charge the phone with quick charge.
edit : just watching 5min of youtube video with 4G, @480p => 36°
edit 2 : https://www.notebookcheck.net/LG-G6-Smartphone-Review.199364.0.html#toc-emissions
according to notebookcheck, on Nougat it should not exceed 34 degree maximum on max load, and 38 degree when charging
No problems at all here
I also have problems, I installed oreo with TWRP, and since the update, the sound bug and the phone is very slow, after 5 minutes everything becomes normal, but it warms up quickly and the battery is discharging more quickly, otherwise there were improvements, the camera takes a better picture and we lose less battery standby
Usually after a rom flash the phone need about a day to settle down and things became stable.

No, I already had the same issues with Nougat!
Now I bought an OP6 so bye bye forever LG!
Well, inhad to make a clean install by resseting the phone.it was just unusable! The last drop when when I tried to switch cameras from front to back and it just got stuck in between the two.had to wait 25-30 sec for that!
Let the phone settle for some time.

Mine was misbehaving like that for over 3 days. That's something else.
No issues here at all. Got Oreo via OTA on 23 May, despite my unlocked bootloader, otherwise stock. Snappy, normal battery life, can get 2 days out of it with moderate use (native res, WiFi/BT on, Location on high precision, sync on, logs off). Your lag/heat/drain issues don't occur on stock so I doubt it's LG's fault. More likely due to rogue apps or your config.

your case is better my phone is warm and battery drain even we it is ideal after i update to Oreo
After the factory reset, it is much better! It was never as fast an 1+ is but still it's ok. So fat not many issues
I suggest you making sure its a full install (even if it's a dirty flash from kdz rather than OTA...) and rctd disabled if you root
should i debloat in oreo?
