Has anyone had a problem with the S4 after OD2, writing to the SD card? I can't move Apps, take pictures, or videos. Does some one have a fix?
Nope, zero problems. Which model? L720 or L720T (they are both OD2)?

I had issues with apps writing to the external SD Card after the OD2 update. I'm running a stock rooted system on the SPH-L720 (non-spark). The solution to the problem was the same as the one I used with KitKat on NAE and NG2. You have to edit your platform.xml file found under /system/etc/permissions/
You'll have to add the Blue text below
Code:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
<group gid="sdcard_r"/>
<group gid="sdcard_rw"/>
[COLOR="Blue"]<group gid="media_rw"/>[/COLOR]
</permission>
Weird, mine is already fixed. I didn't touch it.
My phone is not rooted. Can I still fix it? If not I need the best way to stock root. Sorry, but I'm new to this.

That is odd. I went back to full stock to take the OTA, rooted it with CF-AutoRoot and did nothing else with the system. I thought AOSP reversed the changes to the permissions with Lollipop but I guess Samsung may have done otherwise. I was surprised when I found Titanium Backup was having issues. Did some investigating and found the same issue that we all had with KitKat.
On a side note, I'm looking forward to a possible future Lollipop ROM from you and your Dev Team for the SPH-L720. I've run ROMs from your team in the past and you guys do great work!

Don't be sorry, we all had a point where we were new to this.
Unfortunately I do not know of a way to fix it without Root. Root is fairly easy to achieve on this device thanks to unlocked bootloaders. I wish I could walk you through step by step but there is a pretty good tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257101
Thanks everyone for all the help. I hope I get this thing working soon.
Anyone know how to get rid of that annoying sound when booting up that happens right around the Sprint screen?
Well I got it Rooted, put the line of code in and it still doesn't work. I can't even format the SD card. I don't know what's going on with it. Any ideas?

Yes. Rebooted twice. Even went back and looked to make sure I wrote it correctly.

And did you use an app like Root Check to see if your rooted?
I used twrp manager after I rooted. It'll ask if you want twrp to fix the sd card write permission and then you scroll down and apply the patch. All done.
Just to give everyone an update, my phone bricked. So, I went and got a S6.

How did you manage that? It's pretty difficult to hard brick a phone.
It would not start after reboot. Just keep getting white boxes saying each app failed to start.

I'm using flipz 1.56 RUU and for some reason, when it tells me to connect the phone to the PC, it says it cannot be found. I usually use a MAC to connect my Hero and all sorts of stuff, and I just found a PC to be able to unroot. What seems to be the issue? I know the phone is connected because I can look at it's folders and such.

I'm having this EXACT same issue... But, if you can look at its folders, go into the notifications and set it to "charge only" and make sure USB debugging is enabled.
You need to install HTC Sync on the PC in order to use the RUU.

Grrr...oh well unrooting I stay
Am about to unroot so I can take my Hero in to sprint, I have dust under the screen. Anyone want to point out the best (easiest) way to unroot?
I seen a post where it could be done by just sdcard, would that or using the kitchen be the best way to go?
I am running a 2.1 ROM.
Thanks!

Method 1 is dead simple
Just 5 steps?? WoW
I looked for a little bit today at work and could not find anything this easy. LOL
Anyone tested this?
1. Download the following file: http://www.multiupload.com/Q3RMV5MTRF
2. place in /root of SD card
3. Reboot phone into HBoot mode, by holding Volume Down
4. Press action (the trackball) when prompted
5. Reboot phone
while i havent done it, so cant confirm, the unroot from sd does seem to be the most foolproof way to do it. all their going to look for is the correct recovery.img and stock feel, so it only makes sense
Cool, Thanks!! I am going to give this a try (15 mins before I run in to sprint) I am going to hate to go with about my custom rom and add the added stuff I get with root!

Have not yet installed. Trying to find the ZIP on my phone.
Anyone know where the update ZIP downloads to? If we install this update will we be unable to root?
Maybe a fix for the SD card glitch?
Yea that's what most people are saying.
if it only fixes microSD card issue then you shouldn't loose ROOT..
but who's gonna try first??
DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE!

There's an OTA update we just got on the #EVO that breaks the root. Don't install it if you want to root.

theres gotta be another way to root afte applying the update
it is the sd card glitch fix they told us about it yesterday in our meeting
sd card glitch is rare
i've had the EVO (from I/O) and have only rarely seen this SD card glitch. if it happens i close out the camera app (kill it with a task manager) and then reopen it and it works fine. like i said, has only happened 2-3 times in the past two weeks.
if the OTA update kills root i'd rather wait otherwise if it can still be rooted with the sd card issue fixed then i'll run the ota update
i got that Update soon i turnt my phone on. soon i check for PRI updates and etc etc when you first turn the phone on it said no frimware was found. Then 5secs later a update pops up
this is off topic, but does rooting void the warranty?
Unlike the nexus one, which has some sort of hardware fuse or something when you first root, you can get the EVO back to pure stock form.
It is an update to fix the memory card issue. To read all about it go the Engadget.
I have tried to apply the OTA update because I have had numerous sdcard issues that are more annoying than not having root (for the moment). The update will not apply. It starts to apply the update and then the screen displays a red ? and then reboots. Checking the software version and it remains the 1.32.651.1 version.
Has anyone actually tried this and gotten it to work?

sorry but that's incorrect. From a person who HAS updated, my unrevoked root is working perfectly fine, as well as my awesome free wireless tether.
I was able to flash this zip (Supersonic_1.32.651.6_rooted.zip) from recovery over my existing Supersonic_1.32.651.1 ROM. I can confirm my system reports software version .6, and all is working. I am still able to sudo.. tethering and root explorer work great!

You quoted some old news. The guys behind Unrevoked has already patched their root method.
Has anyone noticed a decreased 3G connection speed after the OTA update and/or PRL update?
My first few days was consistently getting 1200kbps down and 1000kbps up in 3g. After these two updates... 800kbps down and 800 up. Seems pretty consistent and stabilized... pisses me off... thinking about taking it back and NOT updating PRL. is there a way to roll back?
I keep reading different answers and its rather confusing. Is it safe to install the OTA update 1.32.651.6 or not?
Okay, so yes I am a new guy, I have rooted my previous phones though. ah, but see, i had no way of knowing which carrier you were on, let alone what firmware you were running. that's the kind of information you should be posting in your OP.
have you researched the MF3 root thread to see if your answer is within those pages?
This is the att s4 section, and it says mf3 right in the title. Yes I have looked through the threads, tried everything I found with no luck. 99% of the time the answer to my problem is "format your sd card to exfat", but seeing as I am formatted in exfat, that solution does not apply. I'm curious if att did something else with the phone to block this method because I literally just got the phone (refurbished) on Friday, shipped from att.

I am in a similar boat to you. I got a new AT&T S4 to me after the OTA update. I have followed every single step in the new method for rooting the S4 on the MF3 OTA; nothing.
My SD card is definitely formatted to the correct format - even tried multiple cards.
Can't find a fix anywhere.

I would make sure you're working in the right directory. My previous phone's /sdcard was actually the external SD card (as expected). The SGS4 /sdcard is internal storage.
tl;dr make sure you have the files in /mnt/extSdCard and not /sdcard or /mnt/sdcard.
I updated a few days ago to mje and had to Reroot my phone. Anyways since then I've been getting this alert in the notification bar. It appears to be a legit vzw app. When I click it, it asks me to scan my phone for malicious stuff. I froze it yesterday and it stopped but I wasn't sure if it's something worth keeping. Anybody else getting this?

Wow am I the only one?
I had un froze it last night and scanned with it. But last night I had some major battery drain, I look at the stats and this app was at the top with 53%. So I froze it again and won't be un freezing.
MJC
Yeah, if your rooted you definitely need to get rid of that program. Because superuser is a system modification, and it is detecting it as such.
♢NoteIII♢
I've been getting this nonstop since I rooted about an 3 hours ago. I wanted to avoid freezing any apps (cuz I forget later when OTAs come up and don't want to flash/wipe jus to fix it) is there any other ways to fix it? I'm sure other people are getting this when rooting.
Actually, there is. there's a new xposed mod called RootCloak. It's available in the xposed installer download section. What happens is once you activate it, you choose which APK's you want to hide superuser from. It keeps that app from knowing your phone is rooted. I use it for Flixster , because currently Flixster will not stream movies onto a rooted phone. I just found it and it works like a champ!
♢NoteIII♢
I installed root cloak but I don't see that app listed on it, at least not under the same name. Anyone know what I should select to cloak it?

I tried flashing the Stock rom back to this phone through TWRP and I feel like I've flashed it about 8 times now. It comes up normally and I can go through the setup wizard and when I hit the home screen I tired getting Adaway. When I tried to download the apk to my phone and I try to choose a save location it keeps saying that I can't find a save location. Then I tried opening up the file manager and tried creating a new folder it says that the operation cant be performed. I have plenty of storage available on my 6T and I cant see what I'm doing wrong. I've flashed and reflashed both TWPR and the Stock ROM both Beta and official and I still run into the same issue. Is anyone able to lend a hand? Thank you in advance!
