Having issues unrooting! - Hero CDMA General

I'm using flipz 1.56 RUU and for some reason, when it tells me to connect the phone to the PC, it says it cannot be found. I usually use a MAC to connect my Hero and all sorts of stuff, and I just found a PC to be able to unroot. What seems to be the issue? I know the phone is connected because I can look at it's folders and such.

I'm having this EXACT same issue... But, if you can look at its folders, go into the notifications and set it to "charge only" and make sure USB debugging is enabled.

You need to install HTC Sync on the PC in order to use the RUU.

Grrr...oh well unrooting I stay

Am about to unroot so I can take my Hero in to sprint, I have dust under the screen. Anyone want to point out the best (easiest) way to unroot?
I seen a post where it could be done by just sdcard, would that or using the kitchen be the best way to go?
I am running a 2.1 ROM.
Thanks!

Method 1 is dead simple

Just 5 steps?? WoW
I looked for a little bit today at work and could not find anything this easy. LOL
Anyone tested this?
1. Download the following file: http://www.multiupload.com/Q3RMV5MTRF
2. place in /root of SD card
3. Reboot phone into HBoot mode, by holding Volume Down
4. Press action (the trackball) when prompted
5. Reboot phone

while i havent done it, so cant confirm, the unroot from sd does seem to be the most foolproof way to do it. all their going to look for is the correct recovery.img and stock feel, so it only makes sense

Cool, Thanks!! I am going to give this a try (15 mins before I run in to sprint) I am going to hate to go with about my custom rom and add the added stuff I get with root!

Kindly tell me what am i doing wrong i already Unchecked the USB connection in ActiveSync ....Whatelse am i suppose to do...please guys i really love this phone and cant wait to use it again.
Thanks.
ZODI.
hi ZODI,
you better kill the ActiveSync all together by using windows tak manager. I mean to kill the process called wcescom.exe on your PC.
Then reconnect your UNIVERSAL.
Wait a bit, then have a look in PC's Device Manager, if your UNIVERSAL was recognised and it should be listed within USB devices as HTC USB Sync or similar.
If so, then do a reflash one more time.
good luck

Hi ZODI,
you'd better kill ActiveSync all the way down, by using windows task manager.
- disconnect your UNIVERSAL
- kill wcescomm.exe process on your PC
- connect your UNI again and wait a bit
- check if display shows USB at the top of the screen
- in PC's Device Manager check, if the device driver (HTC USB Sync) was loaded
If all done, proceed and do a ROM REFLASH.
If not, you may also check at http://buzzdev.net/list.php?40 mainly those two sticky posts at the top.

High-end Android phones are pretty damn awesome by themselves. But there’s always a little magic to be had by rooting. For those that are fearless and throw caution to the wind, hop on inside for the quick and relatively painless list of what you need and how to do it…
Let the rooting begin…
1. Download this file — PC36IMG.zip — and copy it to the root of your SD card.
2. Turn off phone. Then power back on holding the power and volume button. **If the PC36IMG files was placed correctly and you successfully booted into the bootloader, you should see text appearing on the screen as the phone automatically checks said file.
3. At the prompt to install the image(s), select “Yes”.
4. Reboot
5. Delete or rename the PC36IMG file so that it won’t automatically try to install it again the next time you venture into bootloader land.
And that’s that. Not nearly as hard or involved as some of the earlier HTC Android devices. EVO 4G owners should try it out and let us know how it goes.

So rooting like this will still give me SU controls, meaning I can use SetCpu? But still with the stock 2.1 sense?
Question about rooting!
1. How do I get Sprint apps back after rooting (such as Sprint TV, Sprint Nav etc.) or are they part of the ROM?
2. How do I backup my phone before rooting? In case I have to return I am sure I will have to unroot it! Is this possible?

I have exactly the same problem - with a friends HTC Tattoo.
I even tried factory reset (while phone is off - press Menu+Back+TurnOn) but nothing happens.
You can flash the official rom again if you cannot wipe. Running the RUU utility, take the rom.zip from user's temp folder and rename it to CLIKIMG.zip
Then copy it to root of sdcard and reboot to fastboot. I don't remember the key compinations, but you can find them if you search the stickies of this forum.

this is a exe file,how can i copy it in sdcard and run it?
i searched many topics,but cant finde fastboot guidance
please guide me my friend
I can't help you if you don't know what rom you have. You can try them though, if is they aren't suitable the didn't flash.
You must run RUU utility from pc, and will extract the rom.zip file in your temp folder.
You can access fastboot if you power off the device and hold volume down and power button. After that in fastboot you can flash the rom pushing the volume down key.

Problems unrooting...

Hi folks.
I'm trying to unroot my Wildfire in order to get the OTA update of the official FroYo release.
The problem is, I keep getting the below error message every time I run the RUU.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

I'm using:
Windows XP Professional (SP3)
HBOOT drivers installed
HTC Sync uninstalled (registry clean has been carried out)
Correct RRU (UK TMOBILE) downloaded
Phone set to Disk Drive AND Sync (without software on there).
The current ROM is MoDaCo's 2.1 Stock build.
Has anyone else had this problem who can give me a heads up? It's starting to get on my nerves as I just want normal FroYo.
If no one has a solution, can someone provide the stock UK TMOBILE 2.1 Eclair ROM that I can flash with instead?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

USB debugging is activated.
And I'm trying to flash the T-Mobile 2.1 RRU, which is where I get the error.
::EDIT::
When I use the RUU for the unbranded 2.2 then I don't get the above error ... I get error 131 - Customer ID Error.
Bump to the top...
...would really like some help, folks. I know I'm being pushy, rude, and other things, but surely someone's come across this before?!
You don't have to put your phone in disk drive mode...did you check?
I've tried it in Charge Only, Disk Drive and Sync.
It seems to be a system error...in my opinion if you run that RUU in any other computer will be ok...

Please don't take this the wrong way - but if that's the advice you're going to give me after one day then I'd prefer you to not post.
If you could READ my original post, I've tried it on Windows XP Professional (SP3) and Windows 7 Professional (x64).
NEITHER worked.
Sorry...I did'n notice that you tried 2 different systems...I can't find this in your post...
I had the same problem. The RUU installation file did not download completely. Compare the file size on your computer and on the shipped roms website.
I think this will solve your problem.
If you bother to search instead of needlessy bumping your own thread and snapping at people who are trying to help you would of discovered by now that the 131 error code is related to the gold card.
Yes, I noticed that it was due to it not downloading correctly.
However, my problem thickens...
I'm trying to flash the T-Mobile RUU from Shipped-ROMS, but now it's displaying error 140. This is because my recovery is of a different version (or something).
Any ideas? I can't use the GoldCard method as I don't have a Micro SD adapter.
And sorry for snapping at that poor bloke - I realised that that was completely out of order. So, if you're reading this, please accept my apology:
Sorry, fella.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

ive got a similar thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881277 not one damn reponse.. AAAAARRRRGH! ive searched and found a couple of things that dont work would be nice if someone took the time

[6039x] Install TWRP easily even if you are with your phone to the latest version

(btw im quite noob at this, i just found that as a solution to the problem. btw, sorry for bad english, im 2sleepy and trying to help)
1st: if you break your phone, dont blame it on me. i have done it and it gets tottaly worth it, just sharing knowledge
so have a nice tutorial
So, im Bernardo, from Brazil and 'bout somedays ago ive been trying to install TWRP.
Apparently my ADB-Drivers didnt get totally recognized and it made it impossible.
Oh, almost forgot, you certainly will need a rooted phone. I've used KingRoot, you can find it here. Its an one-touch-apk root. Try it one or two times. It is pretty simple.
Okay, lets go and solve this **** off. Youll need an apk and an image. Just it. Ill use Rashr, but maybe it isnt the better. I dont really know. It just work it out. You can find at Play Store
Fine. Now you have the app to install your custom recovery. But... youll need the custom recovery. Easy too. Youll find the .img right here (big thanks to petrov.0 for the img!)
Okay, now move it to your phone sd\internal storage. Easy too.
Fine, the most difficult steps are in here. Believe me. Open the Rashr and youll find something like that:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Ok, so, click in your first option, it maybe its like: Choose image of Recovery, idk, im using in Portuguese.
Then, you should find a menu just like this one:
Okay. Before you search for your img, make yourslef confortable with this app. I dont know why this hasnt a confirmation of what you're doing. So, take extra care. Lets go on.
Find and click in your .img (that you've downloaded from petrov.0 topic, another thanks m8)
And nooooow..... You should have it flashed. Reboot it on recovery (4th option).
Its just that. And this is how you enter in recovery mode:
Turn off the device
Press and hold Volume UP key + Power Key about 10 seconds
Release all key when you see Android System Recovery
Use touch to control... everything.
If you like it, pls like it and the petrov.0 post too.
So, i hope that it help you guys. Thanks for petrov.0 again and some friends that help me with it. Sorry for bad english again, its my first post though.
Good luck.
Seeya soon.
