It's not on the play store idk why the other person told you that. It's attached to this post, download onto your tablet, open the file, let it install and run (you have to allow installation from unknown sources in settings > security). Once towelroot has done its thing, download, install, and run the SuperSU app (that one is on the play store, definitely).

Ah I see. You can flash an insecure kernel from the dev section then use something like S2 root or Superoneclick to root again.
First step would be to confirm Rom Manager works with SGS2 .
Second step would be to read the post you rooted from the bit where it says Rom Manager does not work .
jje
Im pretty sure sgs2 isnt compatible. Sgs2 should use cwm app.

Why are you using Rom Manager instead of the CWM app that comes with the recovery. I would do a little research before flashing anything with Rom manager.

The best bit of advice you can take from this thread is this: dont use rom manager with the sgs2, tbh it seems to cause more problems that it solves.
Its not fully compatible.
Rather Use the cwm app that installs with chainfires cfroot kernel.

I do not think that this is fair.
Chainfire invented the app, but one brave device owner followed a procedure discovered by other device owner, and a third device owner made the app. Its ours swet and effort.
I understand that Chainfire is awesome and deserves that kind of respect, but if you follow that rule you should ask permission to make the kernel installer for all developers wich already did it. Just do not makes sense.

So what are the downsides to this? Will we not have kernel or modem access? I have an s4 with custom recovery at the moment but am looking to trade for a vzw Moto x if we can rom. I like the smaller size of the x

There's 2 ways around this you can flash philz recovery via odin and flash a custom firmware off your ext sd or flash official firmware

You need to Google Odin 3.09 and there is a website called Sam mobile that has the latest firm updates. Go to the web site and in the search box type 19505 and choose your country. It will take about 4 hours to download. After it downloads use Odin from a PC to flash it to your phone. There is tons of step by step instructions to use Odin on the wrb. Also could search Odin on XDA.
So you first put the phone in download mode then flash the official firmware using odin?

Yes. Put it in download mode. Plug it into your computer start Odin and you will see a com number at the top left. That means your phone is detected.
Thanks i will give it a try once i get on the computer. What if i want to flash a custom rom, can i flash any s4 compatible rom? Do i just need to install cwm recovery on phone and put the rom in sd card and flash?

If your phones boot loader is unlocked you can. But as for me my boot loader is locked. I have to use safe strap recovery. There should be a section in XDA for your phone. It will tell you everything you need to know.
Sorry but what do you mean buy locked boot loader?

The I9505 has NOT a locked bootloader. You can ignore that message.
What about TWRP recovery will that work with a locked boot loader?

Read message above. Your boot loader is not locked so it will work.
