Hi
I already own an HTC One but i'd like to get a Snapdragon 800 device and apparently the LG G2 is the best on the market right now. However, it seems like there is limited dev support for the G2, which is a critical issue for me. I plan to root and test new ROMs on the G2 (why else opt for such a powerful device if you don't plan to customize it to pieces) and i would also appreciate CM support and vanilla Android-based ROMs to get rid of the bloatware UI. But why is there a seemingly poor dev interest in this device? Is it due to the device being relatively new? Or is it due to LG's limited opensource support relative to Sony, HTC, etc? I just don't want to look back at this thread a few weeks from now and then regret my decision to buy the G2. Or is the Note 3 a better choice (its dev section is bristling with new ROMs, etc)? But i'd like an easily pocketable phone rather than a phablet or tablet. I also considered the Z1 as my new S800 device but its huge bezels are a turn-off for me. Maybe i should wait? I don't plan on waiting until 2014 though. :cyclops:
Dude forget the Z1 not only the body is huge for a 5'' screen but it's not even a 5'' screen because contrary to G2 the virtual buttons on screen are not transparent so it's like a 4.6'' usable

Have you checked the Android Development and carrier specific development forums for the G2 on XDA?
The phone has now been out for a whopping THREE WEEKS. Root, LOKI and TWRP were achieved within FIVE DAYS of release.
Sorry if I sound like Im venting but there are way too many threads questioning the phone because we dont have CM, 4.3, or KitKat yet.
And a lot of people (even me) who have come from a pure AOSP experience (like I have on my Gnex) are pretty darn satisfied with the phone as it is out of the box. Ive installed CleanROM mostly just for the debloating aspect, the UI remains virtually the same as stock.
cm
I'm running cm now. Alpha build. Dev support has been great.

+1000000 to this. I always chuckle when I see people who are smart enough to check out XDA forums to learn more about the hacking community of their phone of choice but yet don't seem to click on the Android Development carrier sub forums to gauge how Android development is happening. Its like these people expect a CM ROM to show up 2 days after the phone is released or else the hacking developer community is a failure. Threads like this that complain about the lack of Android development should be removed immediately.

i am also thinking of picking up this phone
what i realised with LG phones is that they don't get much dev attention, like the G and G pro,
so i am not sure what will happen with this device

Just ignore the working CM10.1 build located in the Android Development subforum for the LG G2, right?
Seriously guys, look around the forums and tell me if you really believe it isnt getting much dev attention.

We don't need anymore users that will complain of the supposed lack of dev support (which btw is not true at all)...so please do us all a favor and get a note 3, and enjoying blowing an Efuse and kissing your warranty good bye the minute you install a custom recovery.. :highfive:

It's an entitled world these days, my friend.
to OP: Development will pick up. As others have mentioned the phone has been out for only a hot minute. The world wasn't built on impatience and here we are getting impatient over a phone.
There are already a few Roms out. Even if there were 100s of Roms. The miniscule differences are laughable but people rage about a new rom. Just relax and wait. You also have the n5 coming out which should ramp up development.
I was torn between the G2 and a Nexus 5. I am so happy with my stock experience G2, I'm not bothered about the 5 any more. The G2 is a fantastic phone.
Dev activity seems to have doubled in the last week, with more people saying that they are waiting for their phones to arrive.
LG have already posted the source for the current roms. I think they may have learned from the Nexus 4 that a decent dev scene equals a very popular phone.

@op look at the AT&T Note 3 vs the AT&T G2 for example and tell me which one has the most support as of now. The G2 hasnt been out for thaf long and already has all the root, twrp, lokid plus 3 or 4 Roms if im not mistaken. This is great and itll get better with time. Gotta be patient. The G2 out of the box is beast and offers a lot of customization.

Are LG usually good about releasing Sources? I've pre-ordered the G2, but I'm still on the fence about actually wanting the new Nexus.
If devs can put out a decent AOSP/AOKP/etc ROM for this device, I'd rather go with the G2 with it's superior battery.

sources are out pretty usuable ones some people say
can anyone who has owned a previous lg device tell me about OTA updates?
from what i heard, LG is very late and has a bad rep for ota updates? not too sure though
Dev support really won't be an issue from what I've seen.

Also if the rumors are true and the Nexus 5 is based on the G2 then the dev support will most likely explode even more. Porting KitKat and such to the G2 would be a breeze.

Hello,
i have a Samsung S3 right now with CM11 nightly. It is pretty good and stable. Drivers are not perfect. Expecially camera drivers.
I would like to buy a new device. I have waited for N6 and unfortunally it is too big, too thick e too expensive. So I am thinking to buy a Oneplus One.
I have read around about touchscreen issue. It is fixed ? Drivers in Cyanogen are stable ?
I want a stable phone for daily use. It is ok to test new rom o new kernel sometimes, but i need a stable phone to work with.
What you think ? Should i buy one ?
Thank you !
I have the OPO and its been over 2 month i'm using it!The phone is great and so are the drivers! No touchscreen issues for me!I use multi rom to test new rooms!I think you should go with the oneplus!

I think before making a new thread for a question thats been asked a million times before and an answer that only you can answer you should search for what others have said. Here are only a few I found real quick that can help you out. Lets be honest as well you are asking about rooting your phone and will it be stable. You can read up on any rom you like and find out if its stable but honestly there all based off of cm which is quite stable at this moment. If you are worried stay stock.
First link stock rooted where I would go to ask or rather read up to see just how stable the stock rom is... At least its a starting point. My bad if you think I am being an ass but your question is slightly subjective and all your answers are out there for you. Again my bad

OnePlus One fits a niche crowd, people who like to tinker with their devices and want a true powerhouse to take advantage of. There is also a subset of users that would want a pure-ish Android experience with a customizable interface minus the fluff that comes with a skinned interface like TouchWiz or Sense.
As it stands, I like CyanogenMod without any further tweaks. The phone runs well and doesn't give me many issues to worry about. (Note: no phone is perfect)
If you need mhl, hell no. Otherwise it's the best phone out right now...

Yes though it depends on budget as well I guess. Dollar for dollar I think the OnePlus is still a better buy, however if it's within budget the nexus 6 is clearly the better phone overall.
Mmm bacon
Thnk you all for reply.
I have readed a lot about OPO. I dont like N6, it is big, fat, heavy and expencive. I prefere a 5.5 inc display.
The main problem about OPO are the yellow band and touchscreen issue, that are not resolved with 38R.
I will wait till that problems will be resolved, later i will buy one.
Thank you all !
Its definitely the best smartphone for its price range right now. I have been using it over two month now and i did not have any issue.
Before i bought it, i too was worried about the yellow band problem. But until now I never get the yellow band or touch screen problem.
OnePlus One is perfectly fine and great performance. After i got this phone i immediately try antutu benchmark and suprised that it got the first ranking. That is something to brag to your friends.
As for the rom, CM11S is really stable for daily use and i did not have any problems with it. Great multitasking, smooth gaming, nice camera performance, great speaker quality and great battery life. Plus i heard that they are working to release Android L update for OPO. Cant wait for that. Even if you still want custom rom, most of them that i tried are stable for daily use.

It also depend on how long you're going to keep this phone also. I get at lease 2 phones a year. I have the oneplus one and it always seem like I go back to the Note 3.... But the nexus 6 will be a phone you can keep for another year

Ok if you have read then you also know that not everyone has these issues and the touchscreen issue was software related and those on 38r saying they still have an issue could be user error or faulty devices. Now lets be honest 1+ has sold quite a few devices and I know of at least half a dozen people with them. With that being said I am the only one with yellow banding and its barely noticeable and since the update no one has the touchscreen issue.
Why do so many allow the voices of the few decide for them. At the end of the day it is your decision and if you have done your research then YOU are making the best choice for you....
I've had the s3 and was running cm11 with oneplus mods on it and I can say it doesn't compare.
This phone is ridiculous, it amazingly fast and I have had no problems.
I ordered mine on Saturday and it came yesterday so I've only had a day with it so far but I'm so impressed, would recommend to anyone.
I had a G3, Note3, Z2 and this OPO It's the most incredible smartphone. And the feature that we can unlock bootloader and not lose the warranty is the best!

The G3 was the 16Gb (2GB ram) or 32GB (3GB ram) version?
I'm thinking of buying the oneplus 64GB or the G3 32GB, but i really can't choose which one...
Ive got the 64gb sandstone black, had it for 3 weeks now, worth every penny. At this point the company is well situated and running at full speed, buy with confidence and you will not be disappointed.
You should buy and have a try yourself. For me, this phone is better than expected.
Phone is amazing, period. Get it if you can
Sent from crispy tocino
For sure. I've been pleased with the phone. The size is nice for me even with my small hands, the battery stands on its own, its plenty fast, many ROMs and kernels to enjoy and for the price what more can you ask for.
This phone should of been the new Nexus 6. Tons of development here
SlimKat or SlimPop
As someone who was in love with my previous phone, nexus 5. The OnePlus is the best phone at market price-wise. If it was priced in the same range as N5 or N6, I would definitely chose a N phone. Software-wise it is kinda buggy (both cm11 and cm11s) and hardware-wise (touchscreen and yellow screen)
I would wait until n6, and then make a choice, because the n6 isn't that much bigger then the OnePlusOne, but damn expensive.
I think I will sell my OnePlusOne when the n6 hit the market, cause I really miss the wireless charging.

Hey..I've been getting some questions concerning whether people should buy the OnePlus One still, now that the OnePlus 2 is out. My answer is 100% yes, but I made a quick video to explain why.
I would love to hear you guys' thoughts as I'm sure most would agree as well. I still think the OnePlus One is an amazing device.

Of course the OnePlus one manages to beat most of the 2015 phones .. Its the pure flash ship killer, unlike its brother OnePlus 2
DARK SIDE™
i will definitely keep my opo for now rather than buy the op2
I am using op1 and just got a op2 for one of my friends .... And i still think op1 rocks .... Specially if they do a price cut...op2 is good and very good vfm device but OP1 will remain the actual flagship killer ....i believe the main problem which limits the potential of OP2 is the 810soc which eventhough is the top of line chipset. .. I don't think its actually the best
There's no need for two threads with same comparison. Please stick to this one,

Today I learned something : Never buy LG smartphones'. My G3 crashed while I was surfing on facebook and a blue screen appeared, after few seconds, the smartphone turned off and no more sign of life. Tomorrow I will try to repair it with this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...very-guide-t3132359/post65003040#post65003040 . According to what I read on the web, the G2 has the same problems, the G3 suffers from the problem of battery and slow GPS, the G4 and the V20 from reboot ...
Edit
Finally, I succed to repair my G3, by burning the internal memory with a HAIR DRAYER ?
Thank you for your opinion. It helped me a lot.

I'm not the only one to have these problems, many G3 are victims of the blue screen of death and reboots caused by the battery after 6 months of use, the body of the phone that breaks near the micro and the usb port.
The G4 suffers from bootloops.

I respect your opinion Sir. Everyone is entitled to their choices and opinions
But please ....please dont generalise based on just opinions or few out of a larger groups.
Any device will have its ups and downs.
I have used LG devices for a very long time and I am completely convinced that their device is very robust and bricking it requires special (shall I call it special stupid skills ) skills
So. please try to be composed and not to spread negativity.
I dont use LG G3 but I know there are brilliant devs here and people who will swear that their devices are working great.
I am not closing this thread on the account of leaving users opinions but plz avoid spreading confusing conflicting biased opinions
Thanks
TOO BAD for you ... because LG G3 is one of the best smartphones that I used and ENJOYED USING IT in my life .. ps: I never had this problem and I hope you could solve it good luck
Never had one issue or the reboot problem with the battery however I replaced with aftermarket batteries after awhile...have had every Rom installed and used it while not rooted...everything put on ur phone requires reading up on this knowing the knowledge of what's going on to your phone along with adjustments from your own experience...most of what goes wrong is user ERROR. I would suggest you do your homework before blaming LG for your problems although I hope you can resolve them and good luck
I´ve been using LG since the ¨LG Chocolate¨ days I´ve had almost every single ¨G¨ phone you name it (OG1,G2, G Pro, GFlex, G3, GFlex2, G4, V10) even the Nexus devices 4 and 5... And I gotta tell you there´s nothing like the G3. 5 G4s have died outta nowhere and I´ve lost money cause they were out of warranty, plus @bountyman334 stole my last good G4 when I sent it to him for repair. My V10 lasted 3 months and I bought it new from VRZW, that one I sent it to factory and they fixed it with a new motherboard.
But sincerely I ditched LG for Moto again, rocking the Moto X Pure now and loving it (same specs as the G4 only no bootlooping and quite large development community).
But I still love the G3, I´m ordering one as I type, it has a great dev community and its a beast phone!

I agree with you, the G3 is a very good machine, it was the best smartphone of 2014, but reliability is a disaster, I flashed a long time ago Fulmics 6.7 to avoid overheating, I Replaced the battery twice (originals batteries.) My brother has the Xperia Z3 and flash every day roms but the smartphone is still intact.
My friend has a G3 and has reboots after 7 months because of the battery, on the web, lot of users have the same problem.
Well, I am still using a G3 and I really love it. Easy root, good custom roms, XDA community support. I bought a G5 in hope of root and custom ROM support. Mine was not the EU varient since I don't live in europe (mine is South African H850), so I didn't get bootloader unlock. While I was hoping root from XDA community, nothing came so far. Just because of that I'm getting rid of it tomorrow. None of the LG devices got so much xda community support after G3. Locked bootloader is an issue obviously.

I'm blaming LG beacause I'm not the only one who had these issues, I ever had baseband issue with an Xperia SP but It was the only model that had it and sony exchanged it for free. The G4 suffers from bootloops after generally 4 mounths, LG exchenged it for free, but once the warranty ends it will be necessary to pay
Unfortunately, the guide did not help me, I flashed all thepartitions but no sign of life.
never had issues with the phone. soon it'll be 2 years since I have it. I'll probably just buy new battery and skip upgrade for at least a year more...
I think LG G3 is the best phone in 2014, but not as good as the Samsung hardware, many faulty screen machines and resources, so sad.
here's my rant (sorry for broken english in advance)
- awful GPS. I've owned not so much android devices, flagship mainly. I've never faced GPS problems, till G3 =). I thought it's impossible to be a flagship device and have poor GPS. But guys from LG think different.
The problem is both with hardware and software. I know what i'm talking about. I tried to fix it since i have this phone.
Hardware: bad connection between pins on MB and cover. Software: it keeps loosing GPS lock randomly. You can turn gps toggle off and then on again, and will lock almost instantly.
A year ago i was traveling with family miles away from home, i didn't have data plan, may this was a reason.. anyway my G3 started to loose GPS when i was in center of Warsaw. God i was mad.. After that it continue to loose gps till i back to my home region
Even now, when i "fixed" HW problems GPS reception is just poor. I have some ASUS cheap tablet, this thing can lock gps anywhere - on the backseats of a car, in a building even w/o AGPS
Don't tell me that "i don't know what are talking about, my GPS is fine". No it's not, try to google "LG * GPS" where star is anything from G2-G5, V10, V20, nexus 5 - top results will be about poor GPS. This is major LG problem
- Overheating. I don't actually understand how it's possible to have such kind of issues in 2014. This is LG - one of the biggest phones manufacture, right? Don't they have quality control department or something like that ? I have only one explanation for myself is they just don't care.
Under heavy load phone heats up almost immediately. The problem is that phone becomes laggy at these moments, also you can't adjust brightness to 100% (because it's hot), and you can't charge it more than ~80%. And when you using it , for example, as a navigation on a dashboard... well, you have to stop using it, because it's charging, heating by a sunlight, heating up by it's display, GPS chip, CPU so display dims to 5%
- The loss of SD card slot. Several months ago my phone started to throw messages "sd card unexpectedly removed". I bought a replacement card - same thing. I don't actually know whether it's HW or SW issue, because it can work for a day or two, but eventually comes to this error. And it's not only me:

- And least. Yesterday my phone started dropping WiFi connection.
Lg g3 - is the most unreliable phone i've ever had
I use my phone much. Navigation, notes, RD client ,tv show watching, lots of stuff. My work and life depends on a phone. If yours’s too - avoid LG phones.
some other thoughts:
>Who's forecing you? Buy an iphone
I don't understand your point. Will it make LG better ? Obviously not.
>Any device will have its ups and downs.
The OP is talking about major issues with this phone. These are not just pros and cons. The fact that other phones are not so great doesn't make G3 better. LG G3 still remains bad phone.
>please dont generalise based on just opinions or few out of a larger groups.
It's not just opinions. Take a look to the Help & Troubleshooting section: bootloops, screen death, hard bricks, no sd card - for the past month.
Sheep...
My g3 is the best phone I've owned, still matches up to the newer phones my friends try gloating about..
Specially with custom os on it.. stuck a 6000mah battery in it and never looked back.
Shame you didn't have a good time with yours.

Thanks

i've bricked mine several times in one day
Finally, my G3 is totally dead. Hairdryer/oven methods don't work anymore
Hello.
I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is around 320 USD and therefore OnePlus 2 has really caught my eye. I've found a deal for 300 USD and I'd like to ask a couple questions.
1. The OnePlus 2 sports Snapdragon 810. I haven't heard much about it, but isn't SD 810 infamous for its issues with overheating? Is overheating an issue with OnePlus 2? Can it be completely resolved by flashing a different ROM/Kernel?
2. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 2 a viable choice, despite the fact that almost 2 years passed from the release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
3. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me?
Thanks in advance.
Tip #1 : Dont buy it !!!

1. Snapdragon 810: daily usage is good (I'm not a gamer at all): Messenger, Fenix (Twitter Client), WhatsApp, Facebook through Chrome Dev: everything is good. Yes, just good. Not awesome.
2. Long period of time ? Hell no. Look at OxygenOS update(s) for example. Well. we still don't have 7.x as OnePlus 3 / 3T already have 7.1.x. ROM support. Maybe custom ones yeah, but I think that's all.
Also, Grarak, which is one of the maintainer of LineageOS for the OnePlus 2, seems to stop build ROMs, as announced here. This might be an issue in future, even if there is some developers on this phone.
3. Satisfied ? Not at all. I bought this phone because I had an invite back in time there were still some, and I though hype would be the same as OnePlus One. But very disappointed with phone.
Just go for 3T, or if you have time, wait for OnePlus 4 | 5 , rumors say OnePlus might announced it soon.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
I'd like to look back on some questions:
2. Well, I was probably planning to use custom ROMs exclusively, I'll see about that. I didn't expect much from OygenOS to be honest. The thing about Garak seems worrying though.
3. I'd really like to go for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

You could search for the LG G4 for example, which as a Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, Sdcard and QHD Screen, around 325-350$. Be sure, if you buy it, to check for an unlocked one (no locked bootloader for example).
If you search, you could be able to find a OnePlus 3 (just 3, not 3T), under 350$.

While G4 is certainly an interesting choice, I'm hesitant when going for it since I'm worried of all the bootloop issues that were reported to occur. I also think that I could use a little bumped-up specs.
Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

You could have a look at Swappa which is a platform where users sell their used mobile. There is "partnership" with XDA, so this site can be trust.

Sadly there are no entries for my market (Europe). However, browsing Ebay, I found a listing claiming they have a new OP 3T 64 GB at $352 "in perfect condition". The seller states: "Bought as Anniversary present. To be honest it's a lovely phone if you like Android But I wanted an iPhone. My wife thought I'd like this instead. Used for 2 hrs around the house and that's all. "
How legit do you think this is?
Oh yess man! I've been using the device for quite awhile now and yes I won't recommend it to u now. It's good but not awesome, just good! Moreover, the software updates are kind of on a standstill now however Custom roms are abundant.
At this point of time, within your budget, I would rather recommend you to go with a device with a sd625! Excellent processor with an exceptional battery management, no heating no matter what you throw at it! Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 or the upcoming Moto G5 plus ( supposedly to come with Dual Pixel tech same as in Samsung S7) are a few to mention. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi 5 (comes with SD820) is a crazy good phone to consider if u can get your hands on one! Highly recommended!!

Thank you for the reply. I can't go with the Mi 5 due to it being incompatible with my network. What do you think of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro? It looks like an absolute beast to me.

Ya Z2 pro is a pretty good device! But i don't think that it has much software development! And the Camera is mediocre too. Performance wise, its a beast.

Agreed. I don't use camera that much so it's fine for me. I wish it had more software development than it, but even then, it seems to be extremely good out of the box (software-wise). So yeah, I'm in kind of a dilemma now, cause I need a device that will last 3 years or more. Also I can't go with Redmi Note 4 or Lenovo P2 because they don't have the required bands for my provider.

Then my opinion is that u must wait a week or two and buy yourself a Moto G5+ it will be having the same multipurpose fingerprint sensor (the one Lenovo uses), a class apart camera, much faster updates and vast dev community and this time they are even implementing moto voice feature which was earlier enjoyed only by the moto x users! I am not a moto fan though but this device looks promising!

Seems reasonable. I might as well wait for G5+ and buy it when it becomes available. Thank you once again.
Take my advice and don't buy it.
So did you go for the OP2?
The G5 looks like a good alternative!
no save your hard earned money and buy a better phone, this is already a 2 year old phone and its not worth buying anymore, otherwise if you find a new one for just $50 bucks go for it otherwise forget this phone even existed.
