Hi, I have a rooted ATT S4 still running on 4.2.2. I've tried several time updating the OS but failed everytime. Is it because my phone is rooted that's why I can't do the update from Setting>More>About device>Software update?

. In order to obtain official OTA firmware your device must be on official firmware first. Best way is to Odin back to stock then take the update, or you can read how to get a rooted version here on XDA. Happy reading & good luck .:good:
so I need to use Odin to unroot my phone. When it's back to the stock firmware I can do the official update. Is that right?
Another question.....if I can get the update done, can I unroot my phone again and restore the backup from TitaniumBackup?
Thanks

I have galaxy s4 with stock room from sprint. I had rooted it and installed twrp custom recovery. I was trying to update the phone with OTA update but it rebooted to twrp and that is it. I tried looking for update/zip to install but nothing, update check says it was updated.
Did the update still install somehow?
If not, Where is it downloaded to update or recommend an update method?
I am also concerned about losing root. How can I avoid that in the future?

Oh, I did not know. thanks.
Hello,
I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4, rooted but no custom ROM (never had a custom ROM).
When I go to settings --> More --> About Device and I click Software Update, literally nothing happens. no check for update with "no update available".
Any assistance would be appreciated.
I have a rooted device too and get the same thing. I'm sure it's because I'm rooted. If you want the ota you probably will have to return to stock, unrooted. But do you really want the ota?

I do for the app2sd, I don't use a custom ROM so the new OTA is fine.
But apparently restoring to Stick did not resolve my issue... I used Odin, and the latest firmware but still no success
::Edit::
This did work, it just was wonky at first
So I just got my S5 and updated to NE9 with root. I just got another message saying there is an update available. My question is can I take that update and still root?? I'm assuming Id do it the same way just use the latest kernel to flash after I root.
Thanks!

Hello,
I have an LG G2 802 international with kitkat 4.4.2
I,ve rooted it two weeks ago using ioroot.
Then i thougt about unrooting so it want cause me problems when installing the new lollipop update theough OTA.
I have two questions:
1- is unrooting through supsersu enough?.
2- the update is still not showing up in system updates, I'm in saudi arabia, will it still showup or is it because i was rooted?
Thanks in advance.
You might have better luck if you posted in the regular G2 forum - this one is specific for the Verizon variant VS980.
As a general guideline, taking an OTA while rooted is a setup for a headache, to many things can go wrong and mess up the update, leaving you with a brick.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was following another post, then went to the forum without realizing it's for the Verizon version.
Thanks for you advice.

Thanks vklexer, I did run the full unroot option in SuperSu, now when I put the device in download Mode, it tell me I'm unrooted
But Lollipop didn't show up yet, that's why I had doubts.
I guess I'll have to wait a couple of days before the update shows up.

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S7 on marshmallow PI3 and just got notification of an OTA update, which I assume is for Nougat. I thought I wouldn't get an OTA while rooted, but haven't attempted to download. Please confirm that I will need to un-root my device to get the update.

Even if the update does download, the update will most likely fail during the checking process. Your best bet is to flash Nougat with Odin, then re-root using the Nougat root kernel.

There's not a problem flashing Nougat on a rooted phone?

No, because the act of flashing through odin pretty much negates all that. You just have to root again and follow the guides to speed the system back up or go without root and choose an option like the debloat rom with near stock experience.
