I still have an "Open Ticket" for a replacement EVO, Sprint says I can exchange it at a corporate store and gave me the numbers for a few local stores. The Sprint tech also reported that the stores should be getting shipments next Monday, all will be updated to FroYo 2.2 from the factory.
I called 3 corporate stores hoping they would have an EVO with 2.1, but alas, none to be found regardless of software version.
that is no good, wonder if there is any way...

I should be getting my replacement sometime this week. (Hopefully) I'm praying I get lucky as well
im getting my replacement this evening. Will update this thread.
This affects my decision on getting an Epic. I wanted to eventually replace my EVO towards the end of its Sprint warranty (light leakage, etc) so I could get a newer one, but I don't want to be slapped with more security that may or may not be broken in the near future.
It would only make sense that the newer phones comes with their latest update. Why would they want to make the customer download a large file when they can pre-load it from the factory.
It's not the best choice for many of us who are waiting for a replacement handset that have enjoyed being rooted. I am one of them as well. I have faith in the developers that they will be able to give the OEM Froyo 2.2 handsets root access in the near future.
I might not like not having NAND root but in my Droid X just having the ability to install superuser is a nice feature. I can live with what that can provide for now.
Only time will tell.
relax, I hear unrevoked is close on root for the 2.2 OTA
http://twitter.com/unrevoked
Edit, I'm wrong. The release is for rooted devices.
DAMN IT!
Awesome... just picked mine up. No OTA.

No.. what they have is not for OTA 2.2. There's a thread about it somewhere and they commented in there that they really hadnt done anything towards rooting 2.2 OTA.
Funny enough I just recieved my replacement phone yesterday, and it came with the 1.47..update, but it is 2.1...hooray, still can root
So this thread is only to heard people talking about news of the 2.3.4 for our nexus s i9020A KB2. No longer kb3 or 1 conversation!!!
Still waiting.... on KoodoMobile !
Same, still waiting. Seems like a Canada only phone and we're always last to get anything lol.
I guess everyone bought the Koodo version, we will probably get the update last since we are the least owners of Nexus S

Of course! It was the cheapest at $425 outright. All Canadian phone models are the same anyways (i9020a - GRI54 - KB2) except Wind/Mobi which sell the i9020t I believe.
Actually I paid around $230 (including tax) for it at Best Buy. I used $200 worth of Reward Zone certificates and also got the promotional 4000 points which is essentially $50.
Best part? No contract!
The phone is the same regardless off where you got it. I am on an 18 hardware refresh cycle and got the phone for $0 down.
the current roll out has been very much based on model and not the provider.

Not everyone...when I looked for the phone the day it was available, Koodo didn't have any to sell, neither did Telus. I wanted to buy it at BestBuy next for the reward points but they didn't have an outright/no contract price SKU so I tried FutureShop and bought it there. If I had waited a week, I could have had reward points or a gift card, but I needed a new phone ASAP since I gave my Desire to my wife, the Legend to my daughter, and I was using a backup "dumb" phone. I tried the Motorola Atrix and found it was an awful phone with lots of performance issues and poor software implementation that made it a disappointment to use - so I returned it and awaited the Nexus S which I'm quite happy with.
Not that it really matters, but my phones are always "free" since I do hardware upgrades for iPhones and then sell them BNIB and keep the profits for the phones I actually want to use.
I'm on Rogers with my nexus s and no udate as of yet.

Updates come from Google not the provider. We have to wait until they start rolling it out for our model.

We basically all run the ATT version, it says it somewhere in the packaging I got with my Koodo Nexus. I'm just waiting until CM7 goes to 2.3.4 wich will probably be before we get it anyway. But google will get to our model soon enough.

But the question is WHEEEEEEN???
I punched in the manual checkin code, still nothing. Once I get notification though I'll post the link from logcat. I have adb set up at home and at work.
Same boat here, I bought my phone at BestBuy for Rogers and I still have not received a OTA notification. I would have tried to do the manual update, but that doesn't appear to be an option either.
It would be nice to get some sort of schedule.

Actually this week you may get more points, bestbuy has new reward zone points
Spend over $500 = 5,200 bonus points ($65 value)
Online Code: 5200POINTS
So I guess buy the phone and some accessories and you get 65$ in points.
Just got my Nexus S from Future Shop this past Sunday. It is on Rogers and is a Factory Unlocked I9020A model. I too have not seen any updates as of yet for this phone.
Id like to see it soon though...
Nexus s fido
I have a nexus s from fido . There is a bug for some fido nexus s where the phone is always in roaming mode showing R next to the signal bar . I know that fido have been waiting on a software update since april 15 th .When that alert was posted in the system they said the update would be avalaible within the next two weeks. I am not sure if its the same update though .

Hopefully 2.3.4 fixes the roaming issue. That little R is bugging me!
Just got my Nexus S about a week and a half ago.
Finally Rooted and Unlocked the Bootloader after slacking on following the tutorials.. So tempted to flash a rom/kernel instead of waiting for the 2.3.4 ota update..
Hopefully we get the update soon! I'm getting antsy. A user seems to have reported that they've gotten an update notification for their i9020A though - so that's good news!
So I downgraded my GR54 KB2 to GR40 KB1 and then upgraded to GJ22 KD1. Now my phone spases out at times. Does or can anyone get me the nandroid or stock version of 2.3.3 GR54 KB2? I just want to go back to stock 2.3.3 and then do an OTA update rather than manual. My Wind i9020T GR40 KB1 updated just fine but my TELUS i9020A GR54 KB2 messed up.
Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
I just got this from another forum:
"just got off the phone with Verizon... all 3g versions will get the 3.1 update by midnight EST Friday."
Like the title says: just a rumor. I know nothing else. But it sets my mind at ease to know that I won't have to wait weeks. I'll stop doing the hourly update thing and just let it happen (OK, I might do it again, but not as often...). Can't wait to have resizable widgets and mouse support!
Google are doing a few things right in following apples lead when it comes to announcing updates and releasing updates on the same day, but as someone who lined up on launch day for my Xoom, and who still hasn't got an update it is still terribly frustrating...
Yes their are options for people who just cannot wait, and I understand that OTA updarea have to be managed to for load/ capacity reasons but I almost think the best solution is an either or solution. OTA update or for those that can't wait then an official tethered update....
I wanted to be able to go to work today with an updated Zoom, and stick the update in the apple fan boys eye

oh, man. i thought i am obsessed with my xoom
Do anyone know about the European 3G update?
I guess "3G" for Verizon is not WCDMA, its EVDO.
As someone who also purchase their xoom on launch day and has yet to receive the update, I am equally as frustrated. The load/capacity argument however seems weak with the small number of xooms sold to date. If they can't support that number...

frustrated here also. Got mine 9am the first day they had them available. No update yet for me this morning. Tried setting date ahead, it did check but nothing new.
Just curious, has anyone with a deactivated 3G Xoom actually received the OTA?
Some postings across several forums refer to the fact they only got the OTA after they activated their service with Verizon.
It seems suspect to me that that would be the case since any deactivated device I had with Verizon still received updates through WiFi (my OG droid and the last update (3.0.1) for the Xoom as examples).

I haven't received one yet. But if I do I'll post on here. Because I bought mines from a local shop brand new and never activated any 3G.
I need to get a new phone, and the DVP seems like a steal for only 299.
However, all of the firmware and reliability issues are really getting to me.
Hardware issues too - like the dust particles collecting under the screen.
It seems as if everyone who gets this phone gets a replacement one way or another. I just don't want to go through that process.
I'm also on AT&T, meaning the new update for the DVP won't be released for a while.
I'm considering getting an Omnia 7 or a Samsung Focus instead (both of which can be bought around 300 or less)...
Advice? I was always keen on getting the DVP since 2010, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Thanks.
By new update for AT&T, do you mean firmware .212 that fixed the Wifi issues? If you're buying it for the $299 price point (i.e. unlocked from Dell), then it includes the new firmware. No waiting for AT&T to push it out.
Thanks for the response.
Yeah, but I've heard that some who ordered new DVPs received models without the new update - and even with the update, there were still WiFi issues and the system listed the ram as 256mb.
I'm hoping that if I get the phone, I can install mango beta and avoid the crashing process/bugs altogether...

I don't verify that. Are you sure this is in reference to .212? Because for sure ATT firmware on launch reported 450+ ram...
I just updated two ATT unlocked phones to mango today @ the office.
Both had 212.
mango is out of beta and is final.
If you must have a keyboard, DVP is the phone for you (nice screen too)
also, if you are getting it for $299 - get it from dell ebay. The $299 on dell's site is only the 8gig model where the one on ebay is still 16gig.
The flip side is that if you spend some money @ dell on something else they will take $100 off the phone. I think $700+? ie, if you are gettnig a new desktop - pickup a $199 venue pro.
I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago from Dell unlocked on AT&T, and I've got .212 and have had absolutely no issues with the phone so far.
I haven't had mine replaced, although I did keep wifi off until the firmware update arrived.
Main reason you'll find people with lots of replacements is because Dell were attempting to fix a firmware issue by replacing the hardware Presumably, they didn't know what the problem was at that stage.
As Zurvv mentions, if you want a phone with a hardware keyboard, this is a great device. Interestingly, the device seems to have received some favorable comments at a Yahoo-related site too.

I bought mine from Dell, it was 16Gb with the update for $299 about 2 weeks ago. Its cool and all but even running Mango I catch myself coming back to my Insipre. (My DVP was an unlocked unit with At&t bands btw) No lockups or issues with it, its just a tad slower than a pimped overclocked Inspire.

Hey everyone!
I'm from over on the HTC Hero forums and looking for an upgrade in the near future. I'm currently on C Spire and am not particularly interested in the iPhone 4s or Galaxy Showcase, so this leaves the Milestone X as the main contender for me. Just a few questions come to mind:
1. I noticed there was a recent OTA Gingerbread release, and there may be an issue getting root with it. Is this still a problem or did the issue get resolved?
2. Probably the most important: Would you really recommend the phone as an upgrade or consider something on another carrier with all the new dual core and likely soon to be quad core phones? My main selling point is that the Milestone X is currently free with a 2 year agreement and I wouldn't have to switch carriers.
My only other consideration is to go with the Amaze 4G on T-Mobile (ATT is too expensive and has horrendous customer service, Verizon is too expensive, and Sprint has pretty lousy coverage in MS). The Amaze is also the only phone in their current lineup besides the GS2 which supports their 42+ mbps band.
Anyways, thanks for the read and I hope to hear from you guys soon.
Milestone X is a great phone, you are wise to avoid the showcase.
to answer your questions:
1. Yes there is an update, yes it can be rooted very easily. DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
2. well i already answered that one... The milestone x is hands down the best phone at cspire currently.
Thanks for the reply! I just may consider picking up one soon. How's the battery life on it with CM7/Liberty?
i haven't loaded a new rom so i can't say how the battery life is on those roms, but i can tell you that the stock 2.3.5 is very smooth, snappy and the battery life is superior to my old hero. (just got my milestoneX 2 weeks ago, figures that they would make them free now).
EDIT: correction, 2.3.5 is not what comes preloaded. but there is an OTA update ready for download once you get it. only peice of advice i can give you if you want the ota is don't install cwm before you install the OTA.
Awesome! I just picked mine up yesterday and after the ota, I'm really pleased with performance and battery life. I'll likely root it soon to do away with the junk preinstalled applications.

Not to hijack the thread, but my wife and I both traded in our CSpire Heros for the Milestone X yesterday. They have 2.2.2 on them, and neither will get the OTA update. It just keeps saying they are up to date. Any clue why this could be happening?

I'm having the same issue with my 2nd Milestone X that I just picked up. I contacted support, and they suggested to bring it into a store to install it there. If updating the phone to 2.3 doesn't fix its wifi problems, though, I'll likely be switching it out for another one.
My dad picked up another Milestone today for himself and is having the same issue with the update. The customer service person I spoke to last night told me that it's likely because the OTA update is being released in a "staggered fashion" to "prevent serve overload." I get the concept, but the update has been out for a month now, and nobody else was having any problem getting it until recently, from what I can tell.
If you have any luck getting them to do the upgrade in the store, let me know. The person I spoke to said they charge $15 to do an upgrade in-store, though, which I refuse to pay just because their normal upgrade method is broken.

try downloading this and rename it update.zip, place it in the root of your sd-card, boot stock recovery and select the update.zip from the sdcard. i have been told that it will work. it is the ota download from cspire.

I went into the store and informed them that the phone wasn't receiving the update, they swapped mine with one that had 2.3 preinstalled, no hassle and no restocking fee. I would definitely contest the fee as much as possible, especially when they aren't providing any other way to officially update the phone other than over the air.

I had the same issue. Got the Milestone X in September when it was still Cellular South. Shortly after they switched to CSpire Wireless. Here comes December and I do not have the OTA update still. Kept checking and checking, not OTA and no option through CSpire to just manually download it to PC to update myself. So tried root and DL'ing the file mentioned and renaming update.zip and install via Bootstraper, still a no go. After a few factory resets, BOOM, "you have an update available" and just my luck, will download but not install properly w/ bootstrapper interfering. Ok, remove bootstrap....nope, no work. Said screw it, went to CSpire hoping to just get another one, guy behind counter instantly pulled up bootstrapper and said, If you think you can fix it, try, or else you'll have to buy another one, told him damn straight I'll fix it myself, grabbed my phone and left. Got home, followed SBF guide, downloaded OTA and now I'm a happy camper.
