[ROOT] PingPongRoot ***S6 Root Tool*** - Galaxy S6 Edge General

Straight from galaxy s6 forum!

I'm pretty sure this doesn't work on the Edge yet unless you tried it and it worked?

I've tried. It started in the OP that it's not for S6 Edge because of different in the kernel and issues with charging or something but that the vulnerability should still work just needs more investigation.
Shouldn't be long..

Problem is, will it be available before we are forced to update to the 5.1.1 update which will most likely ruin any chance of rooting.
Also wonder if rooting will stop the auto updating tactics they use as they may cause people to lose root.

Why would you be forced to update?
I have never seen an update that was forced on users for android yet.
Plus you should always be able to Odin back down.
I have done it multiple times with my s5

Many Thanks

Hey guys, I rooted my Edge with PingPong but now it doesn't go into deep sleep. I checked BetteryBatteryStats and it says the phone has been awake 100% of the time. I rooted my previous Edge model with CF auto root and it didn't go into deep sleep either until someone posted something for us to flash with Odin. Idk if that'll work this time since it's a different root method and if it will trip Knox because I'll be flashing something over Odin. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Easiest Root for N915G

So, I was going to use Cf-Auroroot like I have for every other Samsung device I've got but apparently there's an issue with it for the N915G.
What I did was put the latest super su file (i used v2.40) on my external SD card and then in Odin flash the latest TWRP recovery from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/easy-steps-stock-odin-n915tuvu1anjl-sm-t2943993 (you can also use the sd card fix from here too, flash in TWRP, just install supersu, then add another flash file and install the sd card fix).
Go to recovery mode and flash super su.
I found it had an error flashing cache but a factory reset fixed this so best done BEFORE setting everything up.
Let phone reset, set it up and you now have root access with a clean install of stock rom.
Happy days.
This worked fine for me and left out the step of flashing CF-Autoroot which wasn't needed.
You will still trip Knox.
I don't know if this will work flawlessly for you or for all models, especially if the bootloader is locked, but theoretically it should.
Good luck guys, happy flashing.
And HAPPY NEW YEAR...

You should not have many issues with 5.0.1. What you need to do after flashing the 5.0.1...you need to reset to factory setting. Im sure by now you know when upgrading..you still keep data from the kitkat. This may cause conflict and issues. At the moment the only issue i had is sometime i get that contact closed notifications. I have google this issue...seem like it happen to other phones to with early 5.0.1. For me im ok...cause it only happen very rarely...i hope a much later lollipop will fix this issues.

Got my SM-915G, and got it rooted and TWRP installed following you method. It is working with AT&T and I am getting LTE data speeds, but it is struggling on voice network. hardly any bars are visible on the signal strength icon.

Possibly flashing the modem and non-HLOS.bin for AT&T.
I can't really say as I live in Oz and have no problems with voice calls...
I do find that my bars don't tend to go over 3 or more than halfway but that could be due to where I live and the crappy coverage we get here... No problem with voice calls though...
I am not sure if I can install SM-N915A modem on 915G.
Can someone confirm if that is possible, if so, what version?
tell me one thing is xposed framework and freedom app now working on note edge 915G lollipop
Nope. Better stick with Kitkat if you intend to use Freedom and Xposed.

Towelroot error

So I have a samsung s5, obviously XD, but I want to root it so bad. So I did some research and looked around at various threads and other sited and they all say one thing in common, "towelroot". So I try this but it get an error message of "This device isn't currently supported".
So I did some more lookin around for that error on other devices and haven't come up with any solution so maybe someone here can help.

I'll take a look at cf auto root and think about it, it's not likely it'll matter to me if I void the warranty or not.
Edit: After looking at CF Auto root, the G900v isn't supported.

[Q] Any hope for rooting N900V lollipop?

I am also looking to root my sm-n900v on 5.0 lollipop because I cannot stand the Verizon nonsense clogging up my device. Also, I leave for Europe on the 9th and was hoping to use local sims instead of Verizon international. I was under the impression Note 3 was unlocked for this kind of use, but when trying to use a local sim in Mexico, I was told the phone was locked. Is a rooted phone necessary to switch out and use an international SIM? If so I must scramble to figure out another option as I was hoping to root my device, not understanding this was not possible. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

So there is no possible way to root a lollipop Verizon Note 3? That is a bit crazy but the only reason I wanted to root was to remove the pre-installed apps. Please update if anyone has figured out some way. I wish these phones didn't come with all this bloatware. The Samsung apps are fine but Verizon are the ones I'd like to get rid of or at least some of them. Thanks!!

Advice needed on updating Samsung S5 from 4.4.2 to 5.1 whilst keeping Foxfi and Root

Hi everyone,
Looking for some help on updating my Samsung S5 to the latest Verizon update which looks to be LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3. I have found a lot of conflicting information on updates so first hand experience would be great. I need to keep foxfi working as I have unlimited data and the phone is rooted with towelroot. Details are
Verizon Samsung S5
Android Verion 4.4.2
Model Number SM-G900V
Baseband G900VVRU1ANCG
Kernel Version 3.4.0
Build Number KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
Looks like Foxfi is supported on Android 5.1 but does anyone have first hand experience? I would also like to keep root if possible. I currently have Titanium Backup and SDM frozen, would it be best to take the over air update? Lastly anybody have bad experiences with the LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3 update?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Then install this version and root it and remove all s5 crappy app.

Hey Keypepper,
I'm in the exact same boat as you and would love any insight you may have--if you decided to pull the trigger on un-freezing (thawing?) SDM to grab the OTA update. Root would be great to keep, but I'm pretty sure that's no longer possible in the same fashion beyond 4.4.2. Hence the massive push back to this version and utilizing the ease of towelroot. Either way, if you can pass on any add'l perspective you have, I'd appreciate it.

Hey wlhovde,
I decided to apply the Samsung policy update to keep it more secure. This did not break root.
I'll probably will add the latest kitkat version when I get the S7 or when my contract expires.
For reference.....even if prior rooting hasn't broken OTA updating (it probably has) and the OTA downloaded, installing it WILL break root......

Ah....I must have missed that part about Web videos.....mind you I don't use my phone for watching videos......My laptop has a larger screen lol.
About updating and keeping root....There are 2 ways I know of....it just depends whether you want to keep knox intact or not.....
1) Use Flashfire (by Chainfire) to keep root while upgrading with knox remaining at 0x0.
2) Odin flash (or OTA) your upgrade....this will kill root but it can be re - obtained by flashing TWRP and SuperSU afterwards.....
This method will trip knox and WON'T work on devices with locked bootloaders.....so if you're running a Verizon or AT&T device, don't go there.....

AFAIK Xposed doesn't play nice with lollipop touchwiz......it's the installer itself which isn't compatible (I think)......

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

Great info. Thanks!
One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

This is the only one that I know of that will root the Nougat version of the S7 Edge. It is a very long thread, and there is a lot of information that can help. I know it works as I tried it on my G935U at one time.
Anyway here's the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...eres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.
