[Q] Any hope for rooting N900V lollipop? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any new hopes for rooting updated N900V (lollipop)?
The lollipop update just drains my battery. I miss my old rooted 4.4.2.
Is there a way to rollback and root?

Unrooted SM-N900v 5.0 for international use

I am also looking to root my sm-n900v on 5.0 lollipop because I cannot stand the Verizon nonsense clogging up my device. Also, I leave for Europe on the 9th and was hoping to use local sims instead of Verizon international. I was under the impression Note 3 was unlocked for this kind of use, but when trying to use a local sim in Mexico, I was told the phone was locked. Is a rooted phone necessary to switch out and use an international SIM? If so I must scramble to figure out another option as I was hoping to root my device, not understanding this was not possible. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Tried it, doesn't work

I also tried and no success by one click root..
I dont know how they have put that post on their site if it is not working at all..they mentioned it clearly for note3 sm-n900v lollipop.
It is ridiculous to do so..disappointed

I agree. Leading us on but no root.

I'm waiting too

So there is no possible way to root a lollipop Verizon Note 3? That is a bit crazy but the only reason I wanted to root was to remove the pre-installed apps. Please update if anyone has figured out some way. I wish these phones didn't come with all this bloatware. The Samsung apps are fine but Verizon are the ones I'd like to get rid of or at least some of them. Thanks!!

Dead link?

There is no root for the n900v 4.4.4 or later versions, and it doesn't seem anyone is working on one.

At least that was a direct answer! ugh just bummed out now because I was forced to come back to this phone after my other one got a tiny splatter of water on it and freaking DIED.
I really wish someone would

Will we keep root on kitkat

With an update to kitkat happening in the near future I started to think that root may not be so easy. Our bootloader being locked down don't help matters. Right now Kingo is giving users problems and the only other option being vroot.
But what if neither of these work with kitkat?
I will not take an update until I confirm root is possible.
If there's any devs out there that can unlock this bad boy please don't give up.
So what's everyone else think?
I think that in the future people who want root will need to buy a developer's edition.

True but the unfortunate thing is Verizon and or Samsung don't make enough available.
Would be nice if they started to manufacture more dev units in the future.
Or Verizon can just unlock the bootloaders.

I'm guessing that they will make more. There will, and may now be, some significant legal difference between the two. A lot of people want rooted phones so when bootloaders are no longer exploitable they will come up with a scheme to exploit those root-wanters.

I heard a while ago that kitkat could break some root apps. I wonder if anyone is experiencing that?
I haven't heard anyone say anything about it so hopefully that's not a factor anymore.

Everything I've read about how Kitkat screws up access to SD card makes me want to have no part of it. When I hear it is coming to vzw I plan to root and try to figure out how to stay stock mje and block updates. The only thing I really want fixed is the compass and since Nobody admits it's a problem I don't expect any update to fix it.

Tmobile guys don't need kingo to root since they have an unlocked bootloader. If it wasn't for t-mobile's poor network compared to verizon I'd switch in a heat beat.

[Q] Advice on getting rooted

I just received my phone yesterday, and updated to 4.4.4 in ignorance. I realized Towelroot doesn't work on 4.4.4.
Without root, I feel the restrictions of the device - there are many things I cannot do. (I owned a Galaxy S2 prior to this - I still like it - didn't realize how many things I took for granted which can only be done after root!)
How can I get the Verizon Note 3 rooted?
I was wondering if Towelroot would work on 4.4.4. So you have tried and can verify that it doesn't work???

There is no root method as of now and I believe most of the devs that worked on getting root for updates and devs that worked on safestrap no longer support this device. So unless some of the new devs for this device can figure it out you may be SOL.

No way to downgrade without root. I dont know how you obtained the phone, but if thru regular channels you can try sending it back and saying it was messed up out the box and request a new one. And make sure not to update that one if you do get it.
Just did exactly that - then I saw your response - imagine my surprise! Thanks.
Told them it's broken I can't root it. They will send me a replacement. Hopefully it will not come with 4.4.4 pre-installed.

I told him what's the issue. He said he understands and took the phone inside, and confirmed that he couldn't solve it, then ordered a replacement. The store guys are good - you just need to ask nicely and explain what is the problem and why it is important.

New to Samsung Note Series

Recently I purchased a note 3 off ebay to use tell Im available for an upgrade. I'm not sure what software version is on it cause I haven't gotten it. Just have a few questions.
Is the only way you can root is in 4.4.2 ?
If the phone comes can't I downgrade from 5.0 to 4.4.4 and them to 4.4.2.
Please understand I'm new to Samsung so not sure it all works. Coming from all htc devices like DNA and one max.

You are correct. Samsung phones all come bootloader unlocked, unless the carriers wants them locked (as was the case with Verizon and AT&T for the Note 4).
The locked versions have almost never successfully been unlocked.
So if you can, stay away from these two variants.

Some firmware versions have vulnerabilities, which can be exploited to gain root/install safestrap. Some versions allow downgrading to vulnerable versions. But not all.
You should check the Verizon forums for more information http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3.

Well, just got the phone in the mail and it seems that it came with 5.0 so I guess I'm outta luck for root. First phone I've ever had that I can't root. I'm sad aha

Verizon Galaxy s5, I'm new to rooting. What should I know?

I know the s6 is out, an I bought a S5. I'm arriving fashionably late to this rooting thing.
I have never rooted any of my devices ever, and by what I here.. Shame on me.
I need to get the most outta my phone and clean it up from factory crap. I love the ability to customize my phone, but I have no clue where to start.
An very nervous of "bricking?" my phone or messing it up. I'm tech savvy so I think it wont be to hard...? What would I be able to do with my phone when it is rooted? Will it void my warranty and can it ever go back? I remember when I first heard about rooting and people where "Bricking" phones left and right... Kinda the reason I never ventured into rooting. Well I put my big boy pants on and ready to go.. lol I would appreciate any help.
More than likely you purchased your phone already running lollipop, and if so, you can't root. Not yet, anyway.

Like the OP I, too, just bought an S5 but I bought it from a guy, NOT from Verizon. SO it's running Android 5.0 already. That's Lollipop, right?
Even though I have used Android for years I don't know all the terms (and am new to the XDA site). Is there a FAQ or something listing the basic stuff?
I got my old phone repaired -- a Samsung S3 running Android 4.4.2 -- so I presume it will be easier to learn to root, and I might want to start there.
UPDATE -- partly answering my own question by going to the xda-developers.com homepage and then scrolling to the bottom to see "root any device." I can see I still have a lot to learn, but there's some good info there

So you read in these forums that the S5 5.0 cannot be rooted, but then you ask if anyone knows how to root it. Trust me, if someone had figured out how to root 5.0 on the S5 it would be very prominent in these forums. No one knows how to root 5.0 builds of OE1 or newer on the Verizon S5. Not sure how much clearer that can be stated like it was earlier in this thread.

Advice needed on updating Samsung S5 from 4.4.2 to 5.1 whilst keeping Foxfi and Root

Hi everyone,
Looking for some help on updating my Samsung S5 to the latest Verizon update which looks to be LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3. Kernel Version 3.4.0
Build Number KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
Looks like Foxfi is supported on Android 5.1 but does anyone have first hand experience? I would also like to keep root if possible. I currently have Titanium Backup and SDM frozen, would it be best to take the over air update? Lastly anybody have bad experiences with the LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3 update?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's good to know Salcykhan Yep BOK6 is the verizon update and G900V is the Verizon S5 variant.
Then install this version and root it and remove all s5 crappy app.
Plus add very few mod which make phone little sexy

Hi everyone,
Looking for some help on updating my Samsung S5 to the latest Verizon update which looks to be LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3. I have found a lot of conflicting information on updates so first hand experience would be great. I need to keep foxfi working as I have unlimited data and the phone is rooted with towelroot. Details are
Verizon Samsung S5
Android Verion 4.4.2
Model Number SM-G900V
Baseband G900VVRU1ANCG
Kernel Version 3.4.0
Build Number KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG

Hey Keypepper,
I'm in the exact same boat as you and would love any insight you may have--if you decided to pull the trigger on un-freezing (thawing?) SDM to grab the OTA update. Root would be great to keep, but I'm pretty sure that's no longer possible in the same fashion beyond 4.4.2. Hence the massive push back to this version and utilizing the ease of towelroot. Either way, if you can pass on any add'l perspective you have, I'd appreciate it.

Hey wlhovde,
I decided to apply the Samsung policy update to keep it more secure. This did not break root.
I'll probably will add the latest kitkat version when I get the S7 or when my contract expires.
For reference.....even if prior rooting hasn't broken OTA updating (it probably has) and the OTA downloaded, installing it WILL break root......

Hate to revive this thread, but I am in the same boat and my main concern is just patching the stage fright vulnerbility so I can have my MMS back.
You can adjust the settings in messaging so that attachments aren't automatically opened. That will help.....

Thats all you need to do? I'd still rather patch it to be on the safe side.

From what I am reading it doesn't just have to be MMS it could be from a video on a website as well. Is there no way to update and keep root?

Ah....I must have missed that part about Web videos.....mind you I don't use my phone for watching videos......My laptop has a larger screen lol.
About updating and keeping root....There are 2 ways I know of....it just depends whether you want to keep knox intact or not.....
1) Use Flashfire (by Chainfire) to keep root while upgrading with knox remaining at 0x0.
2) Odin flash (or OTA) your upgrade....this will kill root but it can be re - obtained by flashing TWRP and SuperSU afterwards.....
This method will trip knox and WON'T work on devices with locked bootloaders.....so if you're running a Verizon or AT&T device, don't go there.....

I haven't done much reading on that thread as my device is the F variant so I've never had to worry about locked bootloaders......but that thread has 77 pages of comments, so I'd say it's a reasonable bet that there's something to that method.....In fact, the members in that thread would probably be able to give you way more help than I ever could. .....

AFAIK Xposed doesn't play nice with lollipop touchwiz......it's the installer itself which isn't compatible (I think)......
If I remember correctly, somebody has created a modified installer which I think is SDK specific.....but I can't remember where I saw it......
