Samsung has said few days ago, that he would not update Galaxy S due to lack of memory for ICS and Touchwiz altogether. Today, there's a new info from our 'favourite' brand:
In spite of Samsung's best efforts to bury the news by reporting it a couple of days before Christmas, Friday's disclosure that the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab won't get upgraded to Android 4.0 drew a lot of justified ire. Now the company seems to be backtracking like a champ, as reported by ajnews in Korea, by claiming that it will review the viability of updating those two devices in response to strong customer demand. While restating the difficulties of fitting its entire software footprint onto the Galaxy S and Tab's limited memory capacity, Samsung has been quoted as saying it'll investigate ways to try and make it work. We've reached out to Samsung for official comment on the matter and will update you as soon as we hear back.

So? I dont care....theres will be more custom rom for it...
|Post from XDA premium app
|BroodRom RC2 Beta
|Instanet Free Access (no one believe its free)
good news ..!!! I hope we will get it.
i dont care either, samsung cant make a good smooth rom for galaxy s+ at all,
custom roms are always the best choice for us,
ics 4.0 will be ported to galaxy s+ sooner or later but one thing is clear, ported 4.0 especialy for galaxy s+ will be well optimized, smooth and fast and low memory issue will be solved
support our gr8 dev.team
regards
I know that, but for now on there isn't many custom roms for us. broodROM and Cranium, and the newest stock ones to flash. I appreciate their work, but they are based on the stock ones. and with ICS, that's a different thing to port it. and unfortuantely, I haven't seen much of a chance for the CyanogenMod or smth like this with ICS for our S+ yet. hope it will change.
c'mon guys. don't say u don't care. when samsung has decided not to release ICS for us you guys were complaining, now that samsung is reconsidering, you guys said i don't care?? yea right..
no matter we have custom rom or not, I would love to try out the official ICS.
and like the above mention, our dev is so poor that till this date there is so little choice of rom. how can u be so sure there would be ICS port for us? and if that didn't happen, u guys will be complaining again saying samsung is bad bla bla..
just be greatful jezz
I think it will be awesome!!
i saw only galaxy s and tab, why you are thinking that s+ is included into this list?

Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda premium
they never mention anything about i9001, this phone is like forgotten, in both Samsung and devs world. I just hope that when they mention Galaxy S, they think also about S+.
well guys.
my opinion is a little bit splitted:
in the one hand, i have my phone since september and i read the forum carefully and at this time the forum was very dad, the wasn´t a root anyway!
in the other hand:
our phone is getting very big. here in europe it is selling very good, because you can buy it with the price of the i9000 and it is better then the i9000.
i think it will grow but it will take alot of time, maybe we will reach at march a respectable community....
but only maybe
if all goes wrong we will stuck on only to custom roms...
i think we have to drink our tea and just wait.....
sry for my perfect english

It shows that people much power is just great, but also continue to work hard.

ICS porting
I think we have no devs here that can do what others done....ICS porting.
We are the only ones that are not trying or we dont have any idea about porting.....It realy hurts me to see such websites saying all android devices have ICS and we dont.....OK here check this site and say what you have to say........ http://software2tech.com/2011/11/30/android-4-0-devices-list/

we can make use of other ports, like those from DHD/Xperia Arc S/I9000 , combining stuff from those 3 builds i'm pretty sure we can get a booting version with main things working. Devs from other devices have really done a lot, we just need some1 with the guts and basic knowledge to put things up together.

The main thing we are stuck is that this phone is totally forgotten. Except in China. No one is interested to develop anything for such piece of a device. There would be so useless number of users for those roms and mods.

I found something interesting on that Chinese I9001 forum. So it seems some students are trying to gather a group of developers. And the magical "4.0" seems to appear every now and then. Let's wait and see what will come The following text is not written by me. Google translator did the job.
"Here so long, no contribution has been in the water looking for fish Isle of Man, today, to drilled soil, that is to say that before in Saipan who worked with the community, did Moman's system, then go when, unexpectedly there confused the radical, then I heard, the day Moman inception, the hottest day, Oh, just get the points on the QQ stuff like that (because of bad mood, so hit wherever he goes, Oh, a joke) Now with my own 9001, so 4.0 Andrews also decided to get a working group, ad right Okay, we are using 4.0 and it was not previously Moman Nokia to lose, the community can be raised (of course from the master who does not open, right?) Hello everyone. The time has come. Today Samsung announced their new flagship device GT i9300 A.K.A. Galaxy S3. Now, if you are a big fan of pure AOSP and his aftermarket distributions like I am you certainly already know that ICS based CyanogenMod 9 is out there and running and its pure fresh blazing awesomeness. That said, I decided to start this pledge to gather money to give Teamhacksung members codeworkx and xplodwild the next Samsung Galaxy S3 so they can develop for it and port CM9. As you probably know, Teamhacksung is the official CM mantainer for Samsung devices.
Im daily in touch with Teamhacksung members and they are already aware and fully support this pledge.
We running for two devices here. The ammount already includes Pledgie taxes. The donnations are going straight to xplodwild’s paypal account.
We count on you that, like me, is certainly going to buy this new beast called Galaxy S3 and want to see it sporting CM9 and future Google AOSP releases.
CM9 on Galaxy S3 for the WIN!!!!

****[UPDATE]****
People,
Im very proud to come here and say that
WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!!
I want to thank all of you very much for the collaboration. We did it and we did it fast. We are TEH community and we always prove right that we have such amazing power together. Thank you very very much again.
Now devs have what is needed to start the wild porting workx. Stay tuned! I will reach you with more news when I have them.
going to donate! this is definitely needed!
As soon as xplodwild at teamhacksung received the galaxy note, we received the cm9 official build instantly.
and we raised funds in just 24 hours where we could get them the galaxy note, love the community spirit. lets do it!
s3 needs to pimp the cm9 for sure!

I'm not entirely sure I will want to put a vanilla or CM on this phone right away... the stock Touchwiz ROM seems to have a lot of nice features.. Unless these can be incorporated into a ROM that is based on CM9 or what-have-you I think I will try running a stock Touchwiz ROM with root access.. I have never used Touchwiz but even if I had I couldn't definitively say I won't like this because it's new to everyone.

Awesome.
---
To each their own.
Thanks for being so sarcastic. I guess things went a bit too fast.
Actually, while the Galaxy S3 will have many great features, they're all software-based. And after looking deeply, there's nothing that prevents us from adding these nice features to an AOSP ROM, for instance CyanogenMod 9.
Hence why, Galaxy S3, once running CyanogenMod 9, will profit from a community effort started recently to bring manufacturers' features to all CM9-enabled devices. This can include actions triggered by motion, and other features so-called "natural".
You can find out more details at http://opendesign.blamesamsung.org/. Details on specific features, as well as the ability for everyone to request this kind of features, will be available on May 10th.
I can only thank once more people that will help Team Hacksung and CyanogenMod getting a Galaxy S III, to help all CyanogenMod 9 devices.

So true, this was an inspired moment We will give you more details soon. I'm pretty sure you will all like it. But we will need more peeps to help. This won't be done by xplodwild alone. this is a community work. Once done, this will revolution the world of mobile and of every CM9 maintained phone. xplodwild linked the website, it's still under developement, but you learn soon what it is .
And to answer CoNsPiRiSiZe, touchwiz always deceived us. I don't see why it would change now. A proverb says : "You don't have to taste **** to know it taste like ****".

Don't worry - As mentioned before, we're working on the Note also
As for the kernel, we were waiting on 3.4 to be "ready". It's now the case, and we started the real work, codeworkx, me, Espjenfo and Entropy all together
Cannot wait to see what u guys have got under your sleeves. My gs2 runs amazingly on cm9 crept for some battery life issues. But thanks a lot for all you've done just for free
I'd help if I could
CM9 on the S3 would be amazing.
Hope there isn't any troubles rooting it like there was on the Note? S2 was simple to do
Doesn't cyanogen work for samsung? It seems like he would get one for free either way.
I was under the impression that teamhacksung is at odds with Samsung
All i see on twitter feeds are disgruntle posts about not having access to the source

Re: codeworkx will no longer make CM for the S4.
Generally there were 3 developers who maintained samsung devices
1. Codeworkx
2. Entropy512 and
3. Xplodwild
Of them the first 2 have vowed to never waste their time on exynos
Xplodwild is still there but how much time he will have I have no idea..
It will be very difficult to get competent and experienced developers so quickly ..
So initially S4 will definitely be behind in AOSP development IMO
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The way Samsung is treating the dev's & developer community I doubt anyone from CM team will be left with Samsung devices in near future :/
If you want CM or AOSP don't buy Samsung's devices. They never have offered any real support toward third party development. Ask Entropy512 and he'll tell you the whole story. They promise something but never live up to their words. I'm sure some people here still remember the Exynos saga.

I wouldn't be sure of that. The most experienced devs for Exynos are sick of it and won't support S4. Maybe new will come, but will they as good as them?
CM is a community-project so devs are not forced to develop for a device even if it's popular if they want they do. I think S4 will be far behind other AOSP devices. Just take a look at S2 and S3. If you want CM don't for Samsung, go Sony or Nexus. Don't be disappointed about CM on S4 (if it will be released?), you have been warned.

My phones always work, they never let me down.
I see no reason to install a AOSP rom.

Well for the Qualcomm devices (AKA US versions) I would expect Cyanogen himself to continue to support it as he has for the S3 (US versions)
That being said... I have little to no faith that VZW will have an ulocked bootloader so I am personally not even going to look at this device until that issue is taken care of..

Shocked and disappointed to know that the XDA members are not working in the G3.
One month (or more) after the device was out, no custom recovery has been published, no one has published a post of CM, OmniROM or other ROM that isn't based on LG UI.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! And last year we got the HUGE update (Lollipop) in less than a month, by the end of Nov. However now, it's more thn 2 months M has been released and altough it's a relatively small update compared to L, nobody has done it. I hope the devs will soon turn off their hibernation mode and get on track. We know this isn't their job, but they can do it! Our devs are the best!!

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! It's because you got a ****ty device with a ****ty chip and no documentation on the chip. Same story with the S5, S6, S6edge etc. Exynos sucks. So it's 10 times harder to develop a rom for you device.

I know it is much harder and I got a $#itty device, but if I knew these stuff back then, I'd rather die than get 9500. However, done is done, you can't get back infortunately :crying:
But the fact that it is already partially developed is burning me cause it's not being released to the public. Furthermore, N3 exy also has CM13 and released to the public even though it has a slight laggy touch input bug

There is no point at all releasing a rom that is far from usable. But you just have to be patient. There probably will be a working version eventually:

Thanks man! Just contacted him btw and asked if he could give me a link to download it.
@Azar_98
It isn't even released yet. You can track GearCM's GitHub and see what changes are made for our device-tree, rather than request a blind build.
