In my area the signal seems to be really low with only one bar showing up. I have the .39 radio installed and run PA 3.56. This low signal seems to be consuming my battery very much, is there a way to improve my signal?

Is one of the areas with poor reception you physical home? I know that if you call and complain, most carriers will send you a complimentary signal booster that you plug into your house.
No guarantees though, and there is always the possibility that turning your house into a mini tmobile tower could grant you superpowers.
Yeah its the general area around my house I only get about 1 or 2 bars on my signal, and its a suburb of houston

I have had the Nexus 4 for several weeks now and I have also been disappointed with the signal strength. My office is in a metal building that shields the reception to the point I have no service. My old budget Samsung smartphone at least had a bar or two so I could get my e-mail and SMS messages. I have been searching for a solution. I bought the N4 figuring the developer community would have a solution for any issue I might run into. Poor reception is not something I anticipated from a flagship phone.
I am considering trying some of the booster apps from the market, but I have little faith they will work. I rooted my N4 and installed a reverse tether app that lets me browse the web and Play Store, but it is not a direct solution for SMS and e-mail.
Just wanted to know how good the signal strength is on the LG G 2 because I have the gs3 and it sucks so just want your guys feedback because I was thinking about buying one soon but wanted to know how good you guys are getting?
Thanks guys

I can say based on my experience that the note 2 have better signal strength
I work under ground and the note 2 used to give me 2 bars of signal strength, while my g2 fails to get any signal most of the time -_-
I just hope that maybe a modem update would solve this problem

Looks like you're on Verizon. LG >> Samsung for signal strength. My office where I work is in a poor reception spot, and my Galaxy Nexus was awful at holding a signal. G2 has been a world better.

The g2 is about - 10 to -12 dBm better than my hd Maxx side by side, and the hd had good signal. It's also consistently better than my wife's s4

10-12dBm is a huge difference, are you sure you're comparing them in the same exact spot and both on 3G or 4G? Most I've seen between any device was just a few dBm.

I'm pretty sure there were in the same spot, because I was holding them. One was in my right hand and one was in my left. I guess you could say give or take a foot. I tested several times. The hd was always around -112 to 114dBm and the g2 was at -100 to 103. The g2 would also pick up 4G in a few spots that my hd never could. If you haven't previously seen that big of difference, you obviously haven't compared a gnex to basically any other phone.

Interesting.. One last question, were both phones on 3G or 4G? If one was 3G and the other 4G than that would explain the huge discrepancy.

I'm in NJ and coming from a S3, my signal is much better on the G2. Usually 5-7 dBm better

rezound has slightly better signal than G2 indoors
I tested on my basement:
HTC rezound can somewhat maintain 3G, 4G, 1x signal
G2 can only periodically get 3G, 4G, 1x signal
dbm value is not important because: even if they are in the same spot one phone could be transmitting at 50% to conserve battery and the other phone could be transmitting at 100%. naturally the phone transmitting at 100% would show better dbm. so I think its better to measure the ability of the phone to maintain signal
On Verizon I had better signal on my s3. I hadn't seen a 3g icon anywhere near me for almost a year, but now with the g2 I see it every once in a while.

The G2 is head and shoulders above my Galaxy Nexus VZW. I would get one bar at home with the Nexus and it would bounce between 3g and 4g and occasionally lose the signal completely while doing so. The G2 gets a steady 2 bars of 4g.

The G2 has less signal strength indoors (steel building) at my work than the iPhone 5 that it replaced. It has been some what of a problem because about 43% of my battery goes to cell reception. I have had better luck by putting my phone in the one spot that gets just 1 bar of signal in my office, but even then it goes in an out from time to time.

thanks I've always wondered how good iphones 5 signal reception
I've been trying to decide on what phone to get to replace my GNex and the primary factor in my search has been signal strength. We have great 4G coverage here in Pittsburgh yet every Samsung phone sits on 3G almost all day every day. Samsung has the worst radios by far. I know a rep at the Verizon store near where I work so we took a bunch of phones out the other day and compared the signal strength from the city all the way out towards the airport. The iPhone 5 and LG G2 were neck and neck averaging about 4~5 dB better than it's closest competitor the HTC One. Following closely were the new Moto phones. X, MAXX and Ultra. We didn't take a mini with us. We took a Note II, S3, S4 and my GNex that all performed about 7~10 dB worse than the Motos. In the building where I work (steel building barely any reception) The iPhone 5 dropped 4G all together as well as the Moto phones. The Samsungs didn't have a data signal at all. The LG G2 was switching back and forth between 3G and 4G. The HTC One was able to retain a 4G signal but it was slow.
If I was buying one right now I'd probably get the G2. I'm still back and forth between the One and the G2 though.... I'm in my building a lot and the One seemed to get better reception through hard to penetrate walls so that was a major plus on it's side.
I've had GREAT reception. I get about twice the signal strength I had on verizon GNEX.

that was a comprehensive list. you just need to add galaxy note 3
In addition to the list HTC rezound had slightly better reception than my G2(see my previous post)
I'm starting to think LG just doesn't want me taking decent photos. My wife bought me a QX10, after sine nice product placement on Twitter.
The QX10 works perfectly with her Note 3 with the G2 it continually disconnects, even given Wi-Fi priority.
Anyone else have one working or not?

A few weeks ago, i misplaced my Z1 in a public shopping mall table... i think...
...anyways, I'm on T-Mobile USA.
When I first got the phone in September, T-Mobile offered me insurance on the phone.
I went ahead and did a claim, and they said they couldn't get me the z1, and that the closest thing they have ( in price and what not) would be a Note 3.
They sent that to me, they unlocked it, and i sold it...
Dilemma began.... buy another z1? wait for Z1s? Could not do that because their bootloaders are not unlock-able
So what did I do? I saved some money and went ahead with a white 32gb nexus 5 while a friend of mine went ahead and actually bought the Z1s yesterday , and HERE are my first impressions of the differences between the two....
Nexus 5 over the Z1(c6903 and z1s):
Brighter, better screen with better viewing angles
Stock android software
Smaller size, fits easier in hand
Optical image stabilization (opinion)
Easier to root, hack etc.but then again its a nexus and it SHOULD have that
Lighter than the Z1
Messaging app on Z1 STILL does not implement group MMS, but you could always use hangouts ( not a big deal for some)
Sony Z1 over Nexus 5:
Z1 Has a premium feel to it, it feels like you are holding an expensive phone, at least when compared to the nexus 5
Z1 has a bigger battery, I was able to go through a full day of HEAVY usage with it, cannot do this with the Nexus
Z1 is waterproof, dustproof and you can use the camera underwater
Z1 has a microSD card slot in addition to the 16GB (or 32gb for the Z1s) of internal storage
the Z1s has a STRONGER ANTENNA THAN THE NEXUS 5, therefore allowing for better and faster data coverage and better voice quality (On T-Mobile USA)
the Z1 is faster even though the NExus is clocked at a higher speed, tested this with browser tests, game load times etc...
How do i know this? I placed the Z1S side by side with my Nexus 5, verified that they were connected to the same tower on LTE, and di some tests...
the Nexus 5 gave me 2 bars of signal, while the Z1s had Full bars, speedtest.net San Jose,CA gave Z1 ~23megabits down , Nexus 5 around 12 megabits down. Same server, phones side by side.
That part made me think about the decision I made. I Knew about all the other pros and cons of getting the Nexus, and I knew the Z1 kills it in benchmarks and what not but that does not really matter to me
The cellular reception part bothers me. I've always considered the nexus 5 to be a "different" phone, not worse than the Z1.
I can now say that the Z1 is overall a better phone.
Its faster, snappier, and feeds more power to its antenna I'm guessing?
Now i Will stick with my Nexus until the next sony flagship
Don't lose your Z1. If you do, buy another one.

Well the thing is I'm building a new computer and would like to get into development and theming myself. I know the nexus 5 is a great phone for developers but I would also like the phone to be practical for everyday use. I wish I could just get both... Anyways is the reception on the z1s that much better than on the n5? On my 521 it takes forever to send picture messages and to receive them.
Can you get actual db differences between the.and post here?would really like to see some hard numbers on signal vs bars.

I have Z1 (C6903) running on T-Mobile. I do get LTE. But if you run custom rom, the receiver does get echo effect using handset. When I use bluetooth headset, the echo effect is not there.
Running the SpeedTest.net app from Ookla I tested my speed multiple times at Denver inside the airport today. My averages:
Ping: 27 ms
Download speed: 20.4 MBPS
Upload speed: 10.1 MBPS
Compared to what I was getting on the Galaxy S 2 Hercules (SGH-T989), I'm nearly double what I was pulling before.

I average 35 MBPS download & 25 MBPS upload via Ookla speedtest here in Boston, MA :good:
The Z1s does in fact have better antennae than the Z! for a fact, the connection is better, more leveled/consistent, and as such, it saves battery life. The download speeds equate BUT only after the Z1 catches up to the Z1s. Sometimes the Z1 speed slows down a tad bit.) It's not significant in my experience!
(Re-post)
I own both devices and here are my thoughts:
(1) The signal on the Z1s is superb. In areas where i get 2-3 signal bars on the Z1, the Z1s give 5 bars.
(2) Battery life is the best i've seen on any Sony Smartphone. It's also better than the Note 3 and G2 (from my hands on experience) I get about nearly 2 days of battery life with 7+ hours of screen time and hard use. (video calls, video games, FB, What'sapp) -- Teh Z1 will give about 1 & 1/4 Day with 5+ hour screen time
(3) The screen doesn't compare to the Z1. It's more washed out and has less blacks - you have to use white balance settings -- this helps a little.
(4) The build of the Z1s is a joke. it's plastic and not glass and aluminium like the Z1. The flaps don't rotate fully. If over rotated, the flaps will break.
(5) The redesign for the phone body has it's set backs i.e. shifting headphones to the middle and switching the micro SD with the charging port . T-mobile the retailer for the US has a monopoly on phone cases. only they have the cases that fit. none of my Z caes fit the Z1s.
(6) The Notification Light is poorly built. Depending on what angle you are looking the color of the Light changes (i.e. the circle that the LED lights are in allows for all the different colors to show. e.g. when charging and on orange - -the green and red LED shows at the corner. Also note that the LED is not in the speaker.
(7) The Z1s is lighter than the Z1 and has a less premium feel
(8) The Z1S has 16gbs more memory
(9) Z1s has different partitions and as such, getting into the device for rooting etc. is difficult even though kernel source is available)
Aside from battery life on the Z1s, it fails to exceed the Z1. in my opinion. I prefer the Z1. It's better built all accessories are available for the Z1 but not the Z1s and has much support is available for the Z1. No developer I know owns a Z1s ....Little to no support is available. Finally, all Z1s bootloaders CANNOT be unlocked.
Hit Thanks.

Yet for those of us who travel extensively around the United States, having the better connection on all frequencies supported by T-Mobile outweighs the loss of build quality and the fewer (for now) case options available. At least Zagg has a Z1s specific InvisibleShield; they've yet to make one for the Z1, so the lack of a full cover case can be offset somewhat by that. Also, using the magnetic charger on the Z1s negates the need for constantly opening the USB slot cover, so the rotation limitations can be overcome.
Testing today at Denver airport is showing averages of 25 MBPS down and 15 up. Maybe the incoming snow yesterday affected tower response?
Good point about travelling, except, that's not the case. the bandwidths are the same. so if you are in range of a t-mobile tower, you'll get connection, it's just that z1s connects a second faster and seemingly at a stronger signal. i haven't been any where (in the 3 states I travel) and lost signal with the z1 and not the z1s. i've done a few none elaborate tests.
