I signed up for an invite. I plan on running my Nexus 6 on Project Fi concurrently with my old Galaxy S3 on Verizon. I'll let everyone know how it goes. (S.F. Bay Area).

Nothing new here and no, I was not able to walk into a Verizon store and activate my Nexus 7, but I consider this reasonably successful with some effort and possibly-wasted cash involved
So I bought the Nexus 7 LTE as soon as it was available and have been using it on T-mobile. It's been great, but I get zero signal in my work and I don't always want to be on wifi. I had a mission to get this working on Verizon and I don't have a Verizon account at all. I'm a new customer.
I read about the SIM swapping and the Nexus 7 working fine, so I figured I'd do just that. I wanted a decent-sized data plan and noticed they have a 5gb plan for $50 for mobile hotspots. So, off to Craigslist I went. I found a Verizon Jetpack 4510L for $20. I thought this was the deal of the century, until I realized that's pretty much what a two year old hotspot sells for everywhere
I bought it and went straight to Verizon, activated it on the 5gb plan and took it home. I also get 20% off for corporate discount, so that was nice to apply to the $50. I took the SIM out, cut it down to a micro-SIM for the Nexus 7 and put it in. It worked, as expected, after a simple restart.
Here's where I'm just blown away: I believe this is connecting to their new AWS spectrum. I read a few articles this week about how Verizon had turned on their AWS 1700/2100 spectrum on Band 4. Of course, the Nexus 7 supports this out of the box! First speed test I did is attached below, as well as the next two. WOW! With the hotspot, I was getting ~10mbps just while I was verifying it worked on the Jetpack, but when I put the SIM into the Nexus 7 the results were astounding. I only get two bars of service at my house as well (which is in San Jose, CA for what it's worth).
Anyway, this tactic can of course be used if you already have a Share Everything plan with Verizon as well, but I believe they charge $20 to add a Jetpack rather than just the normal $10 for a tablet. I know, it sucks, and hopefully they fix this issue in their system...but that's neither here nor there. I'm not a proponent of Verizon in any way, but I'm pleased with the price of the 5gb plan for what I'm getting.
Cheers!

IMPRESSIVE! I did basically the same thing, Jetpack to N7, and also in SJ but I'm only getting at best 13 Mbps each direction. I am about a mile south of downtown SJ. I will try other areas when I am out and about.
Question: Was your device on the new build KVT49L for VZW improvements or are you at build K0T49H? I'm afraid to upgrade to the new one - going to wait a week or so if I can hold out as I don't want to lose the tether (nobody is reported it was taken but I am paranoid with VZW!)

I've had a Nexus 7 LTE (2013) since it came out on Google Play store. It worked perfectly as an LTE device with the SIM out of one of my Verizon phones with unlimited LTE data.
I installed the update as soon as it was offered on my N7 last week. Ever since then, network connectivity while on LTE has been very frustrating. I'll have 3-4 bars LTE showing on the status bar, but Chrome, Waze, etc., all lose network connectivity. Some apps, like Amazon, work fine, so maybe some kind of DNS or google server issue?
Anyways, it can't be coincidence, this behavior did not begin until allowing the patch. Proceed with caution, IMHO.
You are using LTE Advanced service. Not many places have the service. I know NYC metro area has it. You can get access to the bands on the Verizon S4 through root and service mode. Guys in NYC are getting 90+ on the download. Its supposed to be on Note 3 as well. Im sure a future update to the S4 and higher will get access to these bands. But Verizon is probably still waiting for more deployment.

Would this work on the WiFi n7 2013? If got an old droid x that could be a sim donor already.
Any one know if the Nexus ^p or what name it is called to be Google Project 5 compatible? Rumors are always welcome.
I can't see a brand new Nexus not supporting Project Fi. That said I used Project Fi for a month and it wasn't such a great experience. Even with TWO networks, they lacked the coverage Cricket Wireless (AT&T) provides around these parts, and across the country where I travel to in 23 States.
So glad I got the Cricket Wireless 20GB plan when it came out.
I tend to think they'd support it too, but I did read the fine print somewhere on the Google site that said the only phone they'd support for the trial run of Fi would be the Nexus 6. But who knows, they could "officially" launch around the same time too, or simply change their minds.
nexus 6p will support it, i have a leaked system image, and the fi app is in the image

How about network speed?
I am using StraightTalk right now but it's so slow.
Who's it going to be?
Cricket Wireless 20GB plan. Tried Project Fi for a month and was NOT impressed.
Since the Nexus 6 supports all the carriers, I would say, "all of the above."

Assumes only US release. :|
A little American centric!!!!!
4G LTE from Sosh with 5GB data plan (bandwidth reduced after that). Not ultimate, but for 25€/month it's a great deal.

Project Fi for me. I'm not activating my PFi invite until I plug it into the 5X
Tmo
Im praying for VZW support, will be selling my S6 if thats the case.
I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for All US carriers support, specifically Verizon

Will be running it on koodo
Sounds like most of us love T-mobile!
Will it be sold through Verizon? I still do the contract/subsidy thing. $200 for this would be fine by me.

I was a happy 10 year customer of T-Mo with one exception; they have no coverage in northeast-Michigan where I spend a lot of time. I couldn't even get reliable voice roaming coverage, so I switched to Cricket (ATT network) and I've been very happy. They only have rudimentary technical support knowledge with no escalation procedure so getting help is always a challenge (I've had better luck in the stores). Fortunately the system works well. I don't do anything where the much faster speeds of the mother ship are necessary making my $45 for 5GB of data a good deal for me.
Oh man yeah, Tmo is awesome but for some reason in some places reception is just non-existent.
That being said, I have some experience with cricket since my gf got it recently and I am not amused. But it's definitely a great cheaper option.

Do you guys think the Nexus 5x will have Wifi calling right away?
If you buy it from Google Play, I doubt it.
What I'm wondering is if it'll have QC2.0 and wireless charging...

Hi,
When I heard about Project Fi, I requested an invite without fully understanding what it was (because I just like requesting invites to cool tech stuff). I got my invite today, and I have a few questions about it before I sign up:
1) What exactly is Project Fi? Is it worth it (I currently have T-Mobile, FWIW)?
2) Has anyone tried Project Fi on the Moto X Pure? I'm aware of the articles that claim that the MXP works on Project Fi "unofficially", but I'm wondering if anyone on XDA has given it a try. If so, what are the limitations?
3) Is official Project Fi compatibility cool enough to ditch the MXP in favor of the Nexus 5X or 6P?
Same boat as you I got my invite today but haven't signed up not 100% sure what its all about I really haven't looked into it though

The website videos explain almost everything.
$20/month for unlimited talk and text + $10 per GB of data, paid up front. Any data you don't use gets refunded (as granular as $2.37).
Ideally it works with T-Mobile and Sprint, where the phone smartly detects which is stronger in your current spot and uses it.
Moto X Pure can be activated on Fi, but doesn't seem to handle switching networks, and just connects to T-Mobile and sticks there.
For now I would stick with T-Mobile. I have an invite to Fi as well, but I already am on the $30/month unlimited data plan with T-Mobile and like it.

Do you have a link for this?

It is only connecting us to T-Mobile and WiFi calling is not working. So says other MXPE owners that tried it.

Scroll down to the 30/35 plans.
The $30/month only gets you 100 talk minutes, but my main number is on Google Voice, so I can use VoIP to avoid using minutes (with no noticeable degradation in quality, as long as I have a halfway decent signal).
Your not on a contract with project Fi, so if you don't like it you can use your phone on any carrier. It doesn't really work right with any other phone as there is a special radio in the Nexus 6 and the 2 new phones. I would suggest you sign up for the Fi spy app you first have to sign up to be a beta tester and then they will let you get the app. It lets you change carriers at will. I stay on T-Mobile all the time and if it switches back to Sprint, I change it right back. It's just a push and it automatically enters the codes for you.
Good luck

Wondering if anyone has used project fi in Texas and how reception is? I got my invite today and have been using AT&T for years, but would love to be able to switch to project fi.
Just curious...thanks
Works flawlessly here in Austin, Texas.
Works well in the DFW area.
Did any of you guys have att before?
Whats the coverage of tmobile and sprint together vs att alone?
thanks for the responses.
