It's all just an illusion

Wow, I just love how these sites state all of this as fact, as if somehow, just saying it will make it so. Lol'd hard I did.

I think I just had a mild stroke trying to read that "article."

`Journalistical` garbage I`am actualy a bit glad its not as cheap as the N5, lesser nooby people on this forum to ask the most basic and stupid questions too imo.

SWEET. A 4k display.

Its vcpost guys come on

My brain hurts from reading that article

Of course they don't provide sources for Nexus 5 2015. I am eagerly waiting to see what the nexus is going to be called and looking for the answer is the Nexus named after generation or size? Let this not be a fruitless debate on this subject of name as it relates to size vs generation

"There wasn't much improvement with the camera feature either. It was just the same as the old nexus 5."
Erm No just no.

And the bugs.... It's the nexus 6 fault for all the LP bugs

Well, IF their *speculation* on a 2015 Nexus 5 turns out to be for real... would line up nicely with an SD820. The 6 is a bit beastlie.

This might be the worst article I've ever read

So, I guess I'm just imagining that the 5.1 update is on my phone. And that it showed up the day I bought it.

Ya, why was it sold out for forever and a half. If its a flop its due to lack of supply.

You don't believe that this wasn't PLANNED, do you? They know exactly what the demand will be, they can supply plenty to satisfy the demand. The "shortage" was entirely a marketing trick to make demand LOOK bigger than it really was. Oldest trick in the book.
If you want more proof of this, just consider for a moment that these are ONLINE ORDERS. What that means, is that they don't actually need to have a physical stock of the devices in order to be able to place an order. They just need to know the manufacturing capacity of the factory making them in order to be able to give the customer a reasonable estimate on shipping date.

Don't matter.. I love my N6?

I thought I've read that next nexus device will be made by LG

6. New version of android that that will be exclusive to the device for at least 2 months with some super cool features such as 1080p out via hdmi port

8. Built by Motorola or HTC

^ this. Sadly.
1. Your choice of 16GB or 32GB internal memory
2. 960x640 high res display
3. "Fast App Switching"
4. Front facing camera for using "TimeToFace"
5. iOS Froyo
6. Your choice of two carriers: AT&T or whatever they use in the seventh circle of Hell after you've been decapitated.
They can call it the iNexus 2
Well, it might not be the Nexus Two, but I cant imagine Google never making another Dev Phone. So perhaps these should be expectations for the next Dev phone.
I'm hoping Eric was lieng and all, i remember them saying they wouldnt release a phone but they soon did. I do hope they make an N2.

No doubt. It looks like it was ripped from an iPhone ad. There's a time and a place where phone specs are over kill. Not that none of the above wouldn't be welcome... but as far as the next Nexus... well the first Nexus is still awesome.
I haven't put this damn phone down hardly at all. And its plenty fast. I think at this point, the software needs to play catch up to the high phone specs.
Nexus 2 will not happen. It's a fact.
Eric said they will not make one, and there is no reason to make one.
Android was pushed much farther and much faster then they anticipated, they have no reason to make one more Android developer phone. There are tons of awesome android phones out there already.
You'd think after a CEO tells you it won't happen, u wouldn't open threads about Nexus Two.
There will be no nexus 2 with the lamer specs, too conservative.
Perhaps the nexus 2 will ber a tablet computer based on gingerbread and nvidia tegra.

I'm pretty sure they said they'd never get into the phone business too. Maybe Eric's keeping his cards very close to his chest and it's all a ruse.

Why in the world would Motorola jump onto Google's trademark and start making "Nexus phones"???
It's like saying "Oh yeah, toyota no longer makes supras, but maybe we'll see a BMW Supra"... seriously.
Motorola will continue making "Droids", HTC will make their usual stuff, Samsung will push Galaxy line.
What's so bad about the fact that you have a special edition, one-of-a-kind developer phone that was released in limited quantities for a limited purpose, and then stopped selling? FFS, I was very happy when I saw that Nexus One sales will stop. In a year from now, I'll be selling mine in a perfect condition for BIG $$$$.
I see only positive in the fact that Nexus line is over. Heck, admit it, in a year or so, there will be much better phones than nexus for everyday use.

I dont believe it will be easy to sell our old Nexi (Yeah, thats right, I said Nexi). Think about it, would you buy a G1 for premium bucks now or the latest and greatest phone instead. Most people wanting the Nexus now are people like us that need the newest hardware every 3 months.
My prediction is that the next dev phone will not focus on faster, but focus on lower power. Increasing battery life has to be a cocern for them. 1ghz is plenty fast as we all know, but we could benefit from more efficient processors running at the same speed we have now.
Of course the same speed isn't as much fun.

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

Nexus 4 quality prediction from a Nexus 7 owner POV

As you all must have read about the Nexus 4 with everything latest and greatest and also the lowest possible price 299$ what do you guys think the hardware built quality will be like? I really love my N7 and am totally happy with it but the several issues which can be read on this forum especially not to mention the screen lift and maybe touch screen dead spots for many people is no secret. So seeing the price of N4 what do you guys think the product will be like?

So you are asking if the Nexus 4, which is a different product, from a different manufacturer, designed by a different team, using different materials, built in a different factory that only shares part of it's name with the Nexus 7, will have the same issues.
Do you know how crazy that question is?
Do you also understand the concept of scale? The Nexus 7 has sold multiple millions of units, what percentage do you think have been returned defective? 1%? - more like 0.01%
From what I've seen, LG has built some really solid Android devices. The problem with them is their software, which is really some of the worst OEM stuff. However, since it's a Nexus device with pure AOSP, I think there's a really good chance it could be great.

It's not a crazy question by any stretch. The fact the it has a nexus branding means it has to be approved by Google. If Google did not have a problem approving the N7 inspite of the faults just for the objective of keeping the price low why would they not do the same for LG? Unless you are suggesting LG has some magic formula for manufacturing high quality products at even a lower cost. And I know 10 people with the N7 and they all have the screen lift issue including me. So if you are telling me I can return my N7 and get it exchanged for a proper one please tell me the procedure to do so. And If you meant I should return it because of the defect then please read my first post where I mentioned I am really happy with my N7. So your 0.01% logic is a fail.

If you wait, you will wait forever. Technology gets better by the day. Quite literally. For me, it's simple. I wouldn't buy anything else except for a Nexus device (or something similar). I bought the Nexus S, used it for two years, and now I bought the Nexus 4. I could wait another year for the next Nexus (or maybe the X phone from Motorola), but I'm not gonna. The Nexus 4 is very, VERY cheap for what it can. Heck, the Galaxy Nexus costs the same. And you pay twice as much for the iPhone 5. You could argue that the iPhone 5 is better (I don't think that, but it's not unreasonable if you do), but still... it's not nearly worth twice as much. The same goes for other phones that are 1.5x or 2x as expensive as the N4.
If I had the Gnex, I wouldn't have bought the N4. But since you already did; go for the N4.

When the Nexus 4 first launched... it was pretty obvious there wouldn't be another Nexus phone for a good while. Now, there's talk of the Nexus 5, and we have no idea what'll be announced at I/O, and there's talk of something else being released around October/November this year.
If you have patience, I'd wait to see what'll be announced at I/O. I doubt a new phone will be announced, but who knows. If you have even greater patience, you could wait until Oct/Nov. If you believe you can resell the device close to what you bought it for, buy the N4 now, and then decide on if you want to resell it if a new Nexus phone is announced at either points in time.
I have no patience, but believe I can resell my N4 if need-be. I don't think a phone will be announced at I/O, so I bought a N4 yesterday
I remember buying my 8GB Nexus 7, and a few weeks later, it got discontinued, with the 16GB taking its place for the same price. Was really disappointed, but still kept my N7 and enjoyed it.
As far as I concerned, if it ain't a Nexus device it ain't worth buying unless the manufacturers wake up and start offering some vanilla goodness along with their proprietary crap!

Get while it's still the hottest bad boy device around!
at least wait until 5/15 for google io. Pretty strong rumors it will at least come with a minor update for LTE and storage upgrade. Maybe even N5 will be released. Buying an android 6months after release for the same price is usually a bad idea.
Yeah I'm glad I got the nexus 4. It meets my needs and it's got pure android which I love

[Q] Nexus 4... worth it?

Hi,
I'm a big Samsung fan, i've had the S1, S2 and currently own the S3..at the moment i'm running cyanogenmod 10.1 and after a few initial misgivings about it's lack of features compared to a sammy touchwiz rom ... i'm really starting to like the aosp feel and look..
Now after a year of owning the S3 i'm getting a bit restless and feel like a change.. the nexus 4 is the phone that's intriguing me most. So I have a really simple question, is it a sensible move to the 4 from the S3.
Carl.
Yes only if non removable battery or SD card is not a problem which I personally don't mind and the camera won't to better but around the same and no lte then I'd say go for it , it does give you a bang for your buck especially with development I use P.A which is awesome

The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.
No, don't buy a N4. You obviously can't be bothered to research and figure out if this phone is worth it or not. You definitely aren't going to do any other research when you attempt to Root, Rom, and Mod......Buy a different phone and clutter their forums.:silly:
Definitely get the phone. It's worth every penny. Root it and put Franco kernel and you're good for the entire day.

Before I read everyone else's post I want to say I came from the gs3 had gs2. I would do it again in a heart beat. However it's not a super huge upgrade like it was from gs1 to gs2 or even gs2 to gs3. The software is where I enjoyed the phone the most.
I loved my screen on my gs2 and gs3 on this I wasn't impressed until I got used to it. Now I feel samsung screens have to much pop in the colors
Hope this made sense

is the phone worth it, hell yeah for 350$ you can't get better. Is it worth it for you? You'll have to answer that question yourself.

Assholes like you are why XDA has a bad reputation with newcomers. People come here FOR research, prick.
Go for it and join in all the fun on XDA! Cool

Lol dat butthurt
Well the guy is trying to get perspective from people who actually own the device and use it day to day which is much different than reading any review from someone who might be biased in one way or another.
Maybe the op could have used a different subject or maybe asked what everyone thinks of the phone from actual owners.
Just something to consider before jumping to conclusions

Not in love with the Nexus 4. Have had it since January when it replaced my SGS2 (T989). I really appreciated not having to search for the least buggy ROM, as the stock was nice but at this point I'm dissatisfied with the Camera, which seems to produce mostly mediocre pictures (sadly, and since my other devices and cameras produce better ones, I'm afraid it's not (usually) operator error); the screen, whose color palate I don't love and whose auto-brightness is chronically dim (which can of course be mostly remedied by not using auto-brightness, though wish I could), and lastly the touch sensitivity, which I may try to adress now—I understand there are fixes. Nevertheless, I'm gonna see what T-Mobile will sell me a SGS4 for...

Perhaps next time if you've got nothing constructive to say, you should just refrain from posting...
great

Cheers for the help.. i've read dozens of reviews, spec lists and browsed many forums to get a decent idea of the phone, I thought i'd ask people who may have previously had the Galaxy line of phones and XDA seemed a logical place to do so..
I've been a registered member of this site for probably 2 years and never created a thread before, simply because of the very hostile and condescending attitude of some of the members and BINGO, you did yourself proud mate..
Carl.
N4 is awesome bro get one.i never regretted not buying a note2
